Question S21 ultra back to stock - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Hi guys
It’s been awhile since I had a Samsung phone
Anyhow I remember that if you are rooting your phone I will not be able to go back to stock and keep receiving updates regularly and also the user will not be able to use any Samsung service since there is some security on the device board
I wonder if it’s still the situation in galaxy s21 series

Kind of yes.
You can go back to stock but the tripped knox is never reversible. This will limit samsung pay and some some other samsung apps.
There are few non-Samsung apps that need an intact knox to work.

It's a little annoying to be limited like that.
I treat this as a flashing holidays lol.
Will get back to it in a couple OP/Pixel generations haha

[Q] Rooting Your Device

So for the past few weeks I have been debating whether I should root my device or not. The only thing holding me back is the T-Mobile Jump program, Samsung Pay, and other key features.
T-Mobile staff on their forums have claimed that rooting your device, then sending it in for a jump upgrade will require you to pay a insurance deductible fee. However knowing T-Mobile, and past experiences from people here at XDA; I doubt T-Mobile cares that much and allows you to do the upgrade as long as the phone is working.
Samsung Pay and other key features were also holding me back, as I've heard rumours of rooting your device may cause Samsung Pay to be unusable due to KNOX being tripped. However my want of rooting my device has led me to not care that much of this feature, and go on to continue to root my device.
Now here is my main question, I've read about key features such as private mode being disabled due to KNOX being tripped. Is this true? If it's not true with private mode, is it true with other key features in the phone? If someone could help me out with getting those two questions answered, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance for those who spent their time reading this, and for those who responded!
Every device I've ever sent back to T-Mobile has been rooted and ROMd and I've never heard a word from them. I don't even bother putting them back to factory state. I don't think anyone can answer the Samsung Pay question because it isn't out yet. Me personally, I don't care, I find it just as much as a hassle to dig my phone out vs my wallet so I'd rather have the control and customizability that rooting offers.

Yeah glad to hear T-Mobile doesn't do much if the phone is rooted. Do you know whether rooting your phone allows you to still use private mode, and the fingerprint reader with knox tripped?
Fingerprint scanner works fine, I have no use for private mode so I haven't really checked it out.

New Galaxy S6 Questions

Probably switching to AT&T from Verizon this week and I'll probably be getting the S6.
I'd love to root it but I'd also like to keep Samsung Pay and the fingerprint reader intact if possible.
From what I understand this is only possible if the phone is still on 5.0.2, is that correct?
If so, does anyone know if I'll still get a new in the box phone with 5.0.2 if I walk into AT&T today?
Just want to make sure I don't run into the same mistake with my last phone of getting it too far into its life cycle and not being able to unlock/root.
Thanks!
More specifically you will need to walk out with a device that is on a software version no later than oce2. Of3 and of4 are both unroot able yet both are still 5.0.2. As the of3 update came out close to 5 or 6 months ago you'd be hard pressed to find and s6 on a version before of3 or of4 that hasn't already been sold. Long story short you most likely will not be able to root the phone at all. If you want root you need to buy a g920f or g920i stay away from the g920a. And as for Samsung pay your pretty much out of luck.. Samsung pay requires android 5.1.1 every version of the s6 has anti root feature in the 5.1.1 update so in order to root you'll need a custom kernel will means you will have to trip knox to root... So basically you can't have what you want on the s6 because of knox is tripped Samsung pay will not work.. Your going to have to compromise or your going to have a different phone.. I personally have the g920a from att and I cannot reccomend it at all.. I am still stuck on 5.0.2 just so I can keep riot while everyone else is up to date and running rxposed.. There is little hope for this phone to achieve root on 5.1.1 as it would require an unlocked bootloader which is not something that will conceivably happen.
Really appreciate the info. Probably going to get the S6 and see what happens. I went over a year without root on my M7 so I think I'll survive. If I can't stand it I'll have a couple weeks to exchange it. Sigh, stupid luck downs.
So I ended up with a G920A with OF4. I have not applied any OS updates at this point but it seems I am out of luck for rooting, is that correct? If so I think I can live with it. Between mobile hotspot being included now and a combination of Tasker and other apps I think I'll survive. I just have to make sure I'm good with TouchWiz.

Just need a yes or no, please..

I just want a quick answer as I keep finding people claiming to be able to root t-mobile s6 sm-g920t ver. 5.1.1. I cannot find anything to support this without a lot of headaches, much less being able to find and download needed files for root.
Can I successfully root this Samsung Galaxy s6 SM-G920t?
Or should I go back to my HTC phone?
Thanks,

FYI: I got this phone yesterday as a promotional and did not have to pay for it. I have always strayed away from Samsung because of all the hassles involved in rooting any Samsung device over the course of the last 10 years or maybe a little less. As soon as I signed in to my Google account the damned phone automatically updated. "Thanks for the options Samsung!!! I didn't have any choice but to go through with the update.
Yes, you can root it easily but you will void your warranty by tripping Knox.

I am not worried about warranties. I root all of my android devices. I pay the phone companies a lot of money every month. I usually buy all my devices straight out too. So Samsung can do what they need to, as long as they stay out of my way, I will stay out of their way. Anyway, my other main concern is all the calling problems and the finger print phone lock. Will these break regardless?
Thanks for the fast reply, too!

The only downside to rooting the latest firmware versions is you cannot use Samsung Pay with Knox tripped. Other than that, I haven't experienced calling problems or any issues with the fingerprint reader. Haven't heard of call problems as a result of rooting but the fingerprint sensor not working was a result of using the engineering bootloader (to maintain Knox warranty status) on a previous firmware release.

AT&TGalaxy S5 Android version 6.0.1, Marshmallow Root

Is there a root solution for AT&T G900A Galaxy S5 on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow?
Thanks
No, there is not
once again.
If you are looking for root, then you probably have the wrong phone. This phone is 2 and a half years old. Most of the developers have moved on to the newer phones, and are unwilling to work on a older phone where the root method is likely going to be specific to this device only.
Has anyone tried https://github.com/timwr/CVE-2016-5195 ?
There are more discussions on Dirty Cow at http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/security/dirty-cow-t3484879
Another potential to try us rowhammer: http://arstechnica.com/security/201...tflips-to-root-android-phones-is-now-a-thing/ and XDA thread for S6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6/general/root-6-0-1-rowhammer-t3486691
Per that article, the APK that they want users to try and report on is: https://vvdveen.com/drammer/drammer.apk
The views on this thread shows am not alone

Its primarily the carrier that locks most things down especially the bootloader. Best bet is to save up and outright buy a "developers" version of a phone or the google pixel.
Take a look here:
http://tinyurl.com/j3rzy7g
It's now basically possible, just waiting for someone to make an executable/apk.
id donate $5-10 for root
Rumor has it the author of this code is not selling or accepting payments for it, and if he releases it, he's not going to charge for it either.
Rowhammer
Seems it is not working on my SM-G900A.
i am also waiting for root i still use this phone i got 3 of these and 3 note 3's old but good phones

Samsung pay plan & Rooting

Hi,
I bought my note 8 directly from Sammy and was wondering if rooting will effect my plan.
My plan is a little over 30 pounds a month and after two years the phone becomes mine but after one year I can return this phone and get a note 9 but I am not sure if I still can swap this note 8 for a note 9 after I break Knox and root it.
Does anyone know if I can root and not get in trouble when swapping phones ?

Good question, I'm on the Samsung upgrade plan also but in USA.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Bump.
Ease of someone knows how this works then please let us know.
If you have to specifically pay through samsung pay then you cant root as samsung pay will no longer work
I am not talking about Samsung pay the app.
I am talking about the phone.
Bump! Rooting phone will not affect upgrade plan... Just un-root it before change it with ur service provider... or re-install stock rom before swap. Selling phone on the other hand wouldn't be fair to those who using Samsung Pay or other NFC payed options... But that is not the issue for ur quest..., just saying...
Jess no one understands what I am trying to say ?
I bought the phone from Samsung and have to pay them around 30 pounds a month.
This phone did not come from a service provider...
Just flashing stock ain't gonna fool Samsung when the phone is returned as there is something called Knox.
But forget my question as I already rooted and flashed custom Rom.

I didn't see anything in the ToS about rooting, mostly about damage, maybe it does come under damage though as Knox is an e-Fuse that's destroyed upon flashing custom recovery..
However I don't think they care that much as it's a simple fix for them. I guess no one knows for sure though unless they've done it themselves. maybe ask on the S8 forum incase someone who had the S8 on the upgrade program rooted & then upgraded to Note 8. (if you still would like to know)
My verdict is I don't think it matters... However I've not flashed mine
