XDA-Developer's Grand Eyeball Party!!!

I'm wondering if it is possible in the near future to held a grand eyeball for all xda-dev members? lol Now we get to see in person those who cooked ROMs for us, those senior members who bully us when we used to be a noob, those sarcastic members, those kind ones..hehe...and our French guys will be our host and it will be in France and it will flood with wine..beers..pasta..american dishes, asian dishes, all the dishes there is...and I get to see xplode, sun_dream, helmi_c, greatbal, egzthunder1, oldsap, and all my idols here and we get to show off our HTC phones..wehehehe hahaha lol...hmmmmm I will definitely attend that party no matter what. Before I get old and forget about everything I want to meet you guys..heheh..lol..oh man!

Yep, this might be hard to accomplish and might take years before it happens. But you'll never know. I want to see xplode in person before he explodes!!! LOL I want to see sun_dream before M$ put him behind bars (LOL sun, just jokin, peace bro! You know I luv ya...) And this would be one of a heck grand as in GRAND eyeball! Some from US, some from UK, some from Philippines, from Bulgaria, from mexico from Australia, from China, from Malaysia, from India, from Japan (hey bring some sushi..) from Italy, from Germany, from around the world in one place.

Can't vote Philipines. Can't assure you guys your safety. Abu Sayaff is everywhere. LOL. Joke.
hmmmmm... What about in France or in Miami..hehe but f course everything will be expensive but if we will go in Philippines or China or Malaysia, money will worth double that means double the fun. Or we can just go to xplode's house

Mexico would be fantastic! and we have nice places!
we are not an expensive country, and lees if most people comes form UK & USA!
1 british pound is = 18 mexican pesos
1 us dollar = 14 pesos

Hello all,
I am in the hospitality business and organise events for a number of blue chips – in short my company is the best in the business.
I get good rates on hotels, restaurants and have excellent connections for all things conference throughout Europe. So if Italy, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Uk or Ireland is a possible venue for the proposed event, I will be happy to get involved. I am a big fan of XDA.
Work is on going on our website just now so I am aware that a number of pages need updating... its in the hands of the HTML engineer... link in my signature if ya wanna have a look at what we do.

This would be pretty cool however i've never seen it work out in any other forum. I think the best thing to do would be to create a poll and see where most people are located. Say there's a bundle in California, then we could have one in LA or some place close to all Californians. Same thing for other states, countries, even cities, etc. We could then all share our experiences. As for me, i'm in Southern California, hence the reason i used it

Make it a convention and invite some guest speakers to show off the future of mobile devices, have reps from HTC and others perhaps like Sony, Motorola, Nokia, Jabra, etc... showing off newest gadgets and gear - Workshop seminars and stuff like that. It could be a fun time to meet some of our members in person, talk, show off our devices and envy the other person's device and a good learning opportunity as well.

it won't be an eyeball anymore. It will look like a convention, a meeting, etc. And that will be boring because everyone should be formal. Just an "ORDINARY' but "GRANDacious" eyeball.. exclusively fro XDA-DEV members and if you like we can invite M$ as our guest speaker..LOL
Just a regular GRAND EYEBALL, just to meet each and everyone here at XDA-DEV. No paper works, no signing up just beer and phones and girls too...

But I must say that I agree with Daveshaw that the best place should be where all this started: Amsterdam!

just a cent from a newbee, i hope this great idea will happen sooner...
i agree however that safety, next of course to resources, is definitely the issue needed to be considered by anyone else. but who's safe nowadays? i dont think there's a better place than our own abode (just be sure our better half is out.. lol)..
a little clarification though about Philippines vis a vis Abu Sayaff (ASG). ASG concentrates mostly in northern part of Mindanao and now being relentlessly pursued. on the otherhand, there are great places in the Philippines particularly in Luzon & Visayas, although as i've said cant be considered safer that our homes. But on the brighter side, your 1$ to Php47.++ is quite noteworthy of consideration.... more than double the fun i guess
Btw, considering the "safety" issue as quoted, i voted for the last option (peace orb...)

Anybody on this Forum in the Military?

Like the title states... I'm pre-enlisting into the Marine Corps next summer, and I've recently gotten into XDA. I figured I'd try to find anyone else on this Forum in/joining the Military.

I almost signed up to the British Army when i was 16 and have always regretted not following through with it. In my work i have a lot of colleagues who are ex-military and they're all great guys. Every one of them deserve the utmost respect for serving their country.
If it's what you want to do, don't let anything stand in your way! Keep us updated with your news and hopefully in future you can tell us stories about your Boot-Camp and Tours of duty!

I'm also in the process of joining the USMC. I'm just waiting for my backround check to come in but its been two months already .. I think its because I had to put in a waiver but hopefully my waivers go thru ..

Why don't you try giving it another chance? Also, If I lived in Britain, I'd try going for their Royal Marine Commandos... Talk about bad ass!

That's great! What if we meet up? Haha. I'm gonna be going to MEPS in about a year, so hopefully all goes well. I'm only 16 right now, but I've been wanting to do this for a while now.

they don't have an age limit there? wow
anyway, i got counltess recruitment calls when i graduated from high school, said no, and they wouldn't take me anyway due to my ADHD and asbergers (believe me, i tried to sign up)

Waaay too old now!
I'm sitting next to a retired Ghurka atm and those guys are fearless. Most of them serve for 20 years or more and have seen combat all over the world. One of them, who is a serving soldier, is currently under investigation for cutting the head off a Taliban fighter.
Who needs guns!
Edit: I'm 'Thanking' everyone in this thread who is serving or joining up. It's the least a civvy could do!

UK does, I think its 16 or 18, 16 is when you can live on your own, married, etc. So I'm going with 16

My brother and grandfathers were in the USAF and the ARMY. I can't go in because of to many medical conditions. I respect every military member, op, thank you for the enlistment. Take care of your self.

When the military are used to police the civilians in their own country you know that something is wrong! Any soldier that raises a weapon to one of their own deserves everything that IS coming to them!

There's no politicaling going on around here! So how's everyone finding their HTC, Widows Mobile phone anyway.....?
Edit: It's a shame that there have to be divisions, borders, territory, politics in real life. We are all one race and we all share the same planet. XDA is my favourite site because the things that bring us together knows no boundaries. I now have friends all over the world, all good people, and like the other 99% of the worlds population we all want the same thing! A long and fruitful life and good health for ourselves, our friends and our families.
In a forum of 4 million members i would say that XDA OT is the place to come to find friendship, understanding, respect, fun, sadness, joy, and laughter. We have member aged from 14 years to 60 years, from every walk of life, from every nation. We don't fight, we don't hate...we laugh, we share sorrow and we spread happiness. I was born in the military. My mom was in the Army and had me right before her Unit was deployed to Grenada or Panama or some place back then. She had the choice of signing me over to the custody of the US or get out of the military. My mom was born in the military, too. On one of the Naval bases in Hawaii. My grandpa was in the Marines. I got accepted in high school but backed out when a mess of things happened and none of my family wanted me to enlist, but rather go in after collage. Got rejected when I was 23 for enlistment and again when I was 25. Too much trouble making when I was a kid. Maybe we'll get in another world war and open the draft again. I'll join then, they won't reject me then.

Im thinking of enlisting in the airforce.....any thoughts?

(For those who don't get it Dzień Niepodległości is Independence Day, but in Poland we celebrate 'Imieniny' kind of like a birthday, but for name day, and every day has a different name, and today is Marcin's nameday, and some calendars have it written as Independence Day of Marcin [translated])lol.

Hola Im Jose! Originally from Mexico City but now a citizen of the world. I came here by 1st time back in 2007 to find how to upgrade Windows Mobile onto my beloved and actually working HTC Universal, always loved HTC phones and became more active in XDA. With some time started to write some of the 1st news for the recent launch of XDA Portal, lately was invited to be part of the Mods team in which i had a blast of fun!, I was there to meet in person the mighty old-timer Mods and Devs back in Texas on the infamous Android BBQ 1st editions.
On that time I was so active that some called me "spammer". Getting to the first places of post numbers on XDA....
I quit my regular job back in Mexico and decided to travel the world!, that was when i lowered down my activity in the forums due to obvious reasons...
Then pandemic came and i found myself unemployed and with no chances to travel for the time being....
So.... Im back!!!
Beware high posters, Im coming after you to get my place back!
Looking fwd to engage again with old time amigos around the forums and also to understand the new XDA.

Sad news for u htc phones are dead this means that htc decided to stop making phones and existing ones are not gonna receive any more security and software updates the latest software version did htc phones got was android 10 sad to say that htc will never get android 11 unless they ever made a comeback meaning making phones again and stuff like that

Well, they have been deciding to stop making phones since forever so I can see possibly a couple of devices for this year.... what means HTC is not dead until it is!

Hello from darkest Yorkshire !

Just a line to thank you for accepting me into the group. I'm a retired VoIP engineer, prior to that a Marine Radio Officer in the Merchant Navy although I started off as a Morse Code basher in the Royal Navy at 15...so quite a long time in what they now call IT. I like to keep my mind active so pulling out lots of computer stuff I've collected over the years and getting them up to speed with new SSD and RAM plus the latest W11 OS (with a few hacks) As I get them fettled up they will be going on eBay or Facebook market place so I will finally put a smile on the wife's face, she hates all my 'clutter' Sad to see some of these Sony Vaio's go as I've collected what I thought were the best laptops money could buy but then Sony pulled the plug on support ho hum. I will no doubt be asking lots of stupid questions, bear in mind I'm just a morse basher with a bit of age dabbling in something that interests me!

They sure do, and so do we...that adjustment can be a rough one! From an environment where frequent use of certain four letter expletives is part of the everyday vocabulary, to the "civilized" part of society where such things result in a trip to your not so friendly Human Resources representative.

Also from me a very warm welcome! I commenced to serve my country, NATO i.e. the free world in the Western hemisphere at that time, too. Actually much easier than the times afterwards, which I experienced until my retirement or monitor nowadays. But I think we better don't turn into any political discussions on XDA.
