New to the Pixel 5 today. Have it all set up and running - minus the ability to set the default message app to repeat notifications AND to play custom MP3 files specific to each contact. I see where I can set a custom notification, but not how to select the MP3s on the phone itself that I placed there.
It seems the phone just ignores any custom audio files.
I even installed GoSMS and set it to play custom notifications and it still plays the default notification.

This is driving me mad! For the life of me my Kaiser won't let me change the phone's ringtone from the standard. When I open an MP3 in audiomanager then choose set as ringtone, I get the error message "there was an error copying the ring tone to \my documents\ my ringtones. The ringtone could not be set. Please verify you have enough room on your device and try again", i've even tried manually copying mp3's to the \my ringtones directory, I can view them but they don't play in the ringtone selection screen (they play OK in audiomanager), even if I select a different mp3 in the sounds and notifications screen and select OK, my kaiser defaults automatically back to the standard ringtone. Oh, there's loads of space free as well - about 47mb.
Any ideas?
mp3 extension
Did you change the program for the .mp3 extension?
I noticed the same behaviour when I assigned the mp3 extensions to MortPlayer:
my ringtone would revert back to the default and choosing the mp3 ringtone wouldn't work.
After unchecking the mp3 extension within MortPlayer, I could choose a mp3 ringtone again.
Thanks a lot dude - will give this a go.
Can someone tell me step by step how can I use different music for alarm wake up because I can't find any setting to do this? Ane how can I change music for incoming calls? All I can change are preloaded musics from SE but I would like to use my own mp3s.
u must convert the mp3s in wav and put them in the right directory. Also you can use galarm where u can use mp3 files
Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications >> Notifications (For incoming call etc).
(For custom ringtones for individuals, I just drop the mp3 ringtones into a folder called My Ringtones under my documents on the device, for a general one I think it just goes in the Windows directory).
If you know how to set an alarm, how do you not know how to change the alarm notification? Click on the alarm symbol and select the sound fle you want.
I added a .nomedia file to my notifications and ringtones folders to prevent them from being played in the shuffle for the music player. Then I noticed that my phone wouldn't ring or alert me for text and email so I removed the .nomedia file. But there is still no sound. I can play the sound when I am changing sound options. I checked to make sure all the system sounds were up and that sounds are set to play but nothing works.
For 1 isn't it dumb that we should have to hide notification folders and audio book folders from the media player. Shouldn't it just play from the music folder?
And 2, how can I fix my phone now so that it rings and alerts for messages?

I have a ringtones folder located at /sdcard/ (so it is on internal storage) and none of my ringtones show in the media player. I have not tried audiobooks yet, but they could at least be put in one playlist, with all other songs in another playlist - then shuffle. you could even put ringtones in a separate playlist from songs if you can't figure out why they are not hidden.
you must reboot your phone so the system can reindex all media files . . .
I upgraded to insanity 0.71 and lost the option for choosing the ringtone. It only gives me system ringtones possibility. Before i could choose between system and music.
thanks!
Insanity automatically disables media scanning. You can shut that off in Nitrality. You also need to go into your media folders (music/photos/ringtones, etc) and delete the .nomedia files in there. Then reboot your phone.
this seems not to be the problem. on .7 when pressing change ringtone it gave me a popup where i could choose between music or system tones and evem make a default mark, similar to when you have to different sms softwares installed. now it gos straight to system ringtones...
New to Samsung, long time Android Veteran.
I am not really digging the way Samsung sets default apps. They give no option to do "Just Once" or "Always" such as other Android versions. This stings in a lot of ways but I've mostly adjusted.
However the Email app always wants to use the stock Samsung "Sound Picker" app which will NOT play my Corporate Voicemail WAV files. I've done some research and purchased WAV Player from the Store. When I forward my email containing the voicemail WAV file to my GMail, it gave me an option to select the default app and IT WILL play it through the WAV Player perfectly. But I cannot get it to work on the Stock Samsung Email app. It never gives me an option to choose an where I want to play the audio file. I've tried clearing the Defaults for Email, Sound Picker, WAV Player, etc. but same issue.
Anyone know a way to play the Voicemail WAV files from the Email app directly (I can save the attachment and play that way but I get lots of voicemails and it becomes tedious)?
