Moto G6 freezing after being unplugged. - Moto G6 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, I'm just curious to know if anyone knows how to fix this issue: when I unplug my phone and shut the screen off right after, my phone simply freezes in the state that its in. I know its frozen because if I have my flashlight on it stays on and nothing responds (touches, buttons, fingerpring sensor, etc), but it will not freeze if I have music playing for some reason and the only way to get access to my phone again is to forcefully restarting it (by holding down power for about 10s, which is really annoying). If anyone can help me with this I would really apreciate it. Ps: my phone is a Moto G6 (ali). I know that doing a factory reset fixes it, but right after I re root it and install my apps it starts doing it again. Below is a screenshot with all my root apps.

I have this exact same problem. I have 2 moto's. It occurs on both of them. Never happened till I rooted.

You should disable all of those apps ( especially substratum) and see if the problem still happens. Then if it doesn't, activate one by one till it happens again. Then with the culprit found, look in internet if it has any conflicts to another app you have installed. If you find maybe they have like a patch to download or a modified version. If not you'll have to let one of them go. Or maybe there's no conflict with any other app and it's just that one misbehaving. Disable all other apps and let only the culprit activated. Does it still bug? you can try reinstalling the app or uninstalling it.

Root permission on screen lock causes problems

Does anyone have the samen problem?
I have the very annoying problem that whenever the screen locks (with power button or after time out) and an app changes settings on this action where it needs superuser permissions for, the screen goes on again instantly. So I have to force the screen to lock again.
Disabling the apps that need superuser solves this. Trying different apps from Google Play makes no difference.
Changing the SuperSU app to Superuser doesn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Anyone knows a fix for this?
Also this problem didn't occur in the beginning. Only after a random time. But it won't go away.
I use firmware V10F.

Try to change SU settings.
Already tried that.
After playing around with my root apps it's settings I found out that any app who disables my mobile data connection causes my phone to turn on it's screen.
Someone an idea?

screen turns off after 1 sec when it's being turned on

Hi, I have this problem when i turn on the screen it turns off, tho only the "screen" the buttons still light up and i can feel the vibration when i use the screen. I have tried different roms and still this problem. Sometimes i manage to get it to work and don't have these probs, But i really don't know what it is Thanks in advance!
P.S some roms have this problem for me and some don't so i don't think it's a hardware problem.

Hi there,
funnily I just had this issue yesterday, but I also know it from the past. After some time I found the cause (at least in my case):
the Lightflow-App
You don't happen to have it installed as well? As soon as I uninstalled LightFlow, things went back to normal for me. It started for me after I did some customizing in LightFlow, so it was logic to start with uninstalling that.
I suspect it has something to do with how it is setup or notifications in general. Maybe you have another Notification-App installed?
Let me know if this helped...

Hi, thanks uninstalled lightflow and it stoped, have been force to change roms i just installed becuase i thought this was some problem from the rom.
thanks again

[Q] Note 3 screen wont turn off

As stated, screen will not go off via timeout or power button tap. Power button is recognized and will bring up shut down menu like normal.
Device is rooted (thanks DG) and had been running well for over a week. Defrosted all apps from tibu in case I got over zealous but no better. A factory reset has not cleared it up either. Hoping the oneclick from the root package will correct the issue, but thats not until I get home later this evening.
Has anyone experienced / recovered from this issue?
Smart stay is turned off
I've had noticeable lag like a few seconds and sometimes I wonder if it's going to shut off but it always does. Better set a dark lock screen wallpaper to conserve your battery
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I know this is kind of basic, but what is your setting here:

Thanks for the thoughts.
I had already gone through the standard - double check the settings, remove recent apps. When all that failed and a factory reset still didn't clear it up I was beginning to worry about some kind of hardware damage (don't see how since I treat it better than my child ).
Fortunately the one click from the root seems to have restored proper operation. Back to rooting and rebuilding!

I'm having the same problem, I rooted through vroot.... what do you mean one click fixed it little my incite would be helpful....
thank you
Mine just did this, scared the hell out of me It also didn't go into deep sleep before it started. (Not rooted).
Pulled the battery, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in.... same thing. Waited a few minutes, seems to have sorted itself out.
Scary....
This is definitely a software bug and it is related to the Headphone detection bug that people are having too (it's actually the same bug causing both issues). This happens to me quite often after I restart my phone. It's kind of like the phone hangs during the startup process. I've also noticed that the wifi/bluetooth status that was present before restarting the phone (i.e. whether they on/off) doesn't get applied until the bug sorts itself out.
For me sometimes this works: open an app like Chrome and then hit the home button to get back to your launcher. This works 95% of the time for me. I'm wondering if it has something to do with not having Touchwiz set as the default launcher.
I'm experiencing this same problem. If I don't manually turn the screen off by tapping the power button, the screen will not timeout.

Frozen screen after waking up screen

At some point after upgrading to Android 9 I started having the following issue where if the screen turns off due to inactivity and I turn it back on by pressing the power button, I see whatever screen I had open before it went to sleep but it's frozen. Scrolling touching etc still perform (invisible) actions but the screen is frozen until I either press the app switch button or perform some action that would change the current application. While the screen is frozen the drawer from the top works just fine. Also when the app that gets frozen is the desktop (I'm using the default launcher), I can see the background scrolling if I swipe left or right but the widgets don't change, they are frozen.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Any ideas what could be causing it?

FWIW I have not really solved the problem but I am circumventing it by having the screen lock immediately instead of waiting 5 minutes. That way I have to unlock with a fingerprint every time the screen is off, and unlocking refreshes the screen which "fixes" the problem.

There were lot of reports of glitchy phones after the Pie update.
The cure was a factory reset or software repair with Xperia Companion
Use Xperia Transfer to back up your calls/contacts/texts before you reset the phone

Can you please link a thread, where users told, that problem is solved after reset?
I have the same frozen display (since Android Pie), when turning display off and on again.
Don´t wish to reset and install all again, if that does not help.
bye,
Ralf

Hi Ralf,
the phone will always work better with a reset after a major update, all the Oreo applications are trying to work under Pie. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Oreo apps aren't made to work under Pie and they can error.
here, is one example, or another, but I didn't jump to Pie because of all the negative feedback and the scores of people trying to downgrade.
A reset will fix your problem and if you use Xperia transfer then the amount of personal information lost will be minimal.
Thanks for the links.

This sounds to me, the combination of "old" Navi-apps with Pie is the problem. May be only with Pie on some Sonys.
I'm afraid, a reset will not change the frozen display.
All other apps till now do not freeze after display-on except MagicEarth and Osmand+
This 2 apps i deinstalled (+ deleting the data) and installed again.

Xperia transfer shows me only 2 apps for backup.
I'll probably try a reset in the next few days anyway.

Looks like there is know issue with the Osmand+, the date of the post is may last year, but it may just be a 'feature'
When backing up with Xperia transfer, make sure you select all the boxes that are optional. It's things like text messages/contacts/phone history that are useful after a reset. Some apps can't be moved and have to be downloaded directly from the playstore, but Google should give you that option, after you log back in to the wiped phone.
Edit: I can recomend Sygic, free maps for one country, works without data.
In the meantime, I found more users with this problem and a little solution that another user describes:
I can confirm I have the exact same issue since Android 9 with my Xperia xz1 compact.
I normally have no lockscreen options set. So when I wakeup the Phone, it sometimes kind of 'locks' the screen. Widgets do not respond, I cannot switch home screens. The time on the status bar remains correct. If I then click on an app and go back, everythning behaves normally.
So I'm quite sure this must be a software issue, as other people have this problem to.
My workaround for now is to have a lockscreen option aktive. But I would rather have not, for conveniance.
I tested this also with safe mode and complete factory reset of the phone. The 'bug' is still there.

If I disable lockscreen, then apps stop when it is switched on again. However, I always have to enter pin or use fingerprint sensor, or smart lock.
This often does not work when cycling and is dangerous when cardriving.
On Android 8, the lockscreen did not need to be active.
So the problem is not Osmand and MagicEarth.
It is a Sony 9 bug with Android 9.
bye,
Ralf
Found in an other forum an easy method to reproduce the problem.
disable the screen lock (it must be set to "None");
lock the phone and then unlock it;
lock and unlock it again.

Because I believe that Sony will not fix the error, I could imagine a solution:
An app (possibly tasker), which puts a selectable running app from foreground while pressing the power button in the background and immediately brings it back to the foreground.
Does anyone know such a tool?

Frequent System UI freezing?

Hi Everyone,
It has been going on for roughly a year now, while I'm using my phone it suddenly just freezes entirely. Touchscreen just becomes unresponsive, can't tap on anything, gestures don't work and notification bar can't be pulled down.
Physical buttons does not seem to be affected, even if my screen is totally frozen I can still adjust volume levels and I can lock the phone via the power button. After locking and unlocking my phone, everything goes back to normal, touch responsiveness comes back and starts working as it should till the next hiccup.
It happens frequently, there are times when the screen locks up 2 or 3 times in a 10 minute period window. Every time this happens, I need to lock and unlock my phone and it starts working again.
Also it doesn't seem like a specific application is doing it, it happens when I'm browsing websites via Google Chrome, it happens with Amazon App, Messenger, Google Play Store, even on the Google News feed.
It gets more and more annoying as time goes by and it still hasn't been fixed.
I have been in contact with Google Support in the beginning when it started, but all they suggested is that I should do a Factory Reset (which I did).
Has anyone else experienced this issue or is it just my device doing this?
PS.: My phone is fully stock, hasn't been messed around.
Any physical damage to the device? & Have you tried checking if the issue occurs in safe mode too? If it is caused by a 3rd party or background app it wont replicate in safe mode.
Scan with Malwarebytes.
Try clearing system cache.
Try safe mode and a hard reboot.
That qualifies for erratic behavior and may be the only sign of a virus or trojan you'll see... at first.
Either way you could be headed for a boot loop.
Regardless even if Malwarebytes finds nothing it's factory reset time. Nuke it; a trojan can do a lot of damage to you in a short amount of time.
After the reload change your Google password.
Before you load -anything- make sure the issue is gone!
If it persists it's either a firmware or more likely a hardware failure.
