General Let's share some shots on our mi 11 - Xiaomi Mi 11

Sample shots atm..
All on default camera..

I made it few days ago in complete darkness outside. Night mode made a good job. I think that the snow make it so bright. Day after that when all the snow melted, I couln:t get any close to that photo.

Great cameras if you give them some time.

These are mixed shots with stock and gcam.. gcam works well specially the astrophotography and portrait shots..tho I did not include portrait photo.

The macro camera seems pretty good. Not easy with shaky hands tho

My okras.

Mine finally turned up after nearly 4 weeks. Spent a Few hours debloating, doing clean install, disabling any sneaky data spy bits I could find and then played with the snapper. Overall pretty impressed however the detail on even small amount of zoom is quite poor.

Instable nightpictures

Again, just like my LG Arena, the camera disappoints. Especially at night.
When I like to shoot a picture when there isn't any daylight, the photo's turn blurry and unstable. This especially seems to be since i installed the custom rom from Paul (i guess, not sure).
Try this:
Outside at daylight. Launch the camera app. Now move you phone around and look at your screen. Is it laggy? Probably not.
Now do the same in your room at night with just some lights on, and it laggs a lot.
Am I the only one?
Don't expect night photos from a phone. If you want that you need a proper camera - ideally an SLR with a decent lens. And a tripod.
Hi,
I‘ve had my phone for over a week and a half and aleady taken a few pics with it, including at night and though night shots weren‘t fantastic they were deffinitely not bad, in fact i was pretty impressed with the result, for a phone. I would upload a picture but not sure how, am new on here...

I mean, a blackberry bold 9700 can make better night pictures. I don't care about the amount of pixels. I care amount the blurryness of the photo when somebody moves just a bit.

[Q] Camera not that good?

So compared to my old galaxy skyrocket which has the same camera as the galaxy s2/galaxy s3
the htc one seems like a big step down
htc one: http://i.imgur.com/OgOrVYN.jpg?1
galaxy skyrocket: http://i.imgur.com/DEChRVh.jpg?1
why is it so much worse?
I have tried messing with the exposure levels and it still looks bad
any ideas?

It has to do with the metering. One is affected because your screen is on in one of the photos and not in the other, so the exposure is affected.
You can Google metering in photography, it can help. Because when you tap to focus...
Ok try this. Go outside and find a tree on a sunny day. Focus on the darkest part of the tree and snap one. Then focus on the sky and snap one. Compare both.
I do believe that's the difference.

Often I find I have to set focus on a different area than I intended in order to achieve best results. I took a picture yesterday in the garden and it was blue skies and very sunny which meant I had to focus on the sky in order to darken the image, if I'd focused somewhere that was darker or actually where I'd wanted to focus, it would have being overexposed and just look washed out.
When you learn about the camera and how to take pictures with it you really can take some very good shots. Personally though I don't think the low light is all it's cracked up to be, looks as bad as it has on any phone tbh but then I rarely take pictures at night, only dirty ones of my wench and young girls through windows
This pic I think shows somewhat how good the camera can be, boring subject matter lol but I wanted to test the Macro mode ...

Yea the camera is incredible, by far the best I've ever used on a phone. The thing is, if you havent noticed, this phones camera was kinda marketed to be a night life phone. The low light pics at a club or restaurant
But larger pixels means even better st capturing light in regular light, which u noticed makes a huge difference. Especially the added sharpness, exceptionnal. And the macro you took could even be better, you have to spend some time focussing it, I have a dslr, same thing.
Keep trying different types of shots, explore with the metering and white balance... You'll be surprised! You'll be a pro in no time!

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Google Pixel 2 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Not taken by the "average consumer" but I have to admit that these picks are AMAZING! Cant wait to have my 2XL in hand to test it out! https://9to5google.com/2017/10/07/google-pixel-2-photos-videos-samples-gallery/

I haven't taken more than a few photos, but oh my lord this camera is absolutely awesome. Depth of field trick is snazzy and works perfectly 99% of the time. Color accuracy on photos is mind-blowing.

Took some sample pictures with Pixel 1 and Pixel 2, compared images on PC, they look identical but some are better on Pixel 1. Pixel 2 colors are more saturated and there is no flare....
I have been comparing the photos from the Pixel 2 to the iPhone 8 Plus if anyone is interested ?
Daylight and Night time
Took pictures today after dusk, same thing. Most images look identical to Pixel 1, but when I zoom in I can see that lens on Pixel 1 is a little bit sharper with less noise.
Edit: also noticed that automatic white balancing is off sometimes. Pixel 1 gets it right while Pixel 2 doesn't.
But all negatives are relatively small, I wouldn't say one is better then another
I don't find the camera miles better than previous phones I've owned (S7, S8, 5s pixel port etc). But it's capable, fast, a good allrounder and DOF mode is okay for a single lens construction. Hdr+ is a joy and considered, that Google don't yet utilize the new chip empowering this function it's FAST.

I have been able to take amazing pictures with the N5,N5X,N6P and now with the Pixel 2.
HDR+ does a great job in all these phones I owned.
The main quality difference between the N5 and the latest 3 I mentioned, are the megapixels. (But HDR+ quality was still solid in the old 5).
They main difference between the 5X/6P and the Pixel 2 is the speed to take photos, launch the camera, focus and process the HDR+ but the quality is really close.
I've decided to stick with HDR+ enhanced (which is similar to the old HDR+ in the Nexus) to minimise the risk of getting unfocused areas that sometimes with the HDR+ are not so detailed. So I'm sacrificing speed to capture photos to try to get always a perfect HDR+ shot.

I don't know because I stopped using cameras for my trips, since I got a Nexus 5 with HDR+ and before that I mostly used the typical compact Sony cyber shot with Carl Zeiss lense.
And I only regret to use smartphone as main camera when I switched from the N5 to Z5 Compact and went to Paris and took ugly photos. Specially nightly photos and closeup photos. This is the main reason I sold that phone after 6 months and went for the 5X.
Probably you can get better details with those cameras you mention. But there are some key features in HDR+ (this is all post processing) that do a lot of magic:
- Focus in most of the areas. (You can focus on a person's face and still capture the details behind a window that points to the street / or the clouds in the sky/ or other faces; as if you had focused directly on that window or clouds).
- More dark skies at night. The night photos look amazing. Nightly skies try to be converted to a more solid dark colour.
- Same good quality with sunny photos that have a lot of sunlight or sun rays and you can't see well trough the camera app when taking the photo because of the high brightness. After HDR+ you could have a good result more opaque.
Other things I like from the latest Google phones cameras:
- Panoramas. Sometimes I take a panorama with just 1 captured image, because of the increased FoV to fit a building. And sometimes you need to take more than 1 because the building still doesn't fit.
- Capture photos when walking: In previous HDR+ Nexus cameras when you press the shutter, camera starts capturing and you can have blurry photos if you were moving. In The Pixel 2 when I press the shutter of the camera (also walking and with HDR+ enhanced) phone camera blocks and take some time to capture to maximize the possibility of a crisp shot. (And if you press the shutter and starts shaking the camera it won't capture till you stop shaking)
So I'm taking photos when I don't have time to stop now.
- Minimum focus distance: I love close-ups / macro shots and the latest Google phones had a good minimum focus distance and mixed with HDR+ the result is amazing.
(The Z5 Compact I owned used to have a wide angle but terrible minimum focus distance I hate this).
What I don't really care is the new portrait mode. You get 2 photos when using it. With blurry unfocused areas and the original with no blur. I think this is only useful for CV photos or some close-ups or special cases. There is a lot of people that loves this feature. I personally prefer the photo that contains more data for 99% of my captures.

Absolutely love the camera on my Pixel 2. Below are some examples shot really quickly from The Shard in London.
I had the iPhone 8 plus briefly and although similar, I'd probably say the Pixel 2 is a bit better, I also think the portrait mode is insanely good considering it only has one camera! :highfive:

absolutely not.
however, the pixel takes decent pictures completely automatically while you can completely mess up a picture on a mid range a mirrorless camera if you don't know how to use the settings - and the fully automatic mode of the mirrorless cameras tend not to be actually as good as the pixel
(technically, the pixel is also a mirrorless camera btw - just that the sensor and lens are tiny, get less light and aren't as sharp, basically - but they have much better automatic processing)

Very happy with the camera.

Pixel 1 does not have Portrait mode (or at least not yet). Pixel 1 has Lens Blur mode, it works but not as good

I had Canon G5 ($500 compact camera) and gave it away with a purchase of Pixel 1. I think P1 pictures are much better.

No you can't activate it, not sure if it's software or some hardware thing. Maybe Google will enable it later

[DISCUSSION] SHOT ON ONEPLUS 6T Share Your Photos Here!

Just a little place we all can use to share some of our photos taken with the 6t?

Shot with Google Camera, because the OnePlus Camera is only good for shooting video.
Just put this on my new car I picked up yesterday...
Using the GCam some shots of my other (more expensive) hobby...
Last shot night mode only "light source" is the pool light on the back area. Not too shabby!

Random Camaro SS with HDR enhanced, and a night sight shot of the night of the sky. Night sight is amazing. Both images taken with Gcam
Lake behind my townhouse. Picture 1 is the stock camera in HDR+ mode. Picture 2 is the stock camera in Night Mode. Picture 3 is Gcam in HDR+ mode. Picture 4 is Gcam in Night Mode. To me it looks like the stock night mode captured the light more naturally but the Gcam night mode has the most detail. Honestly when I read the reviews saying the camera is not good I was anxious but after having this phone for a few days now I'm ok. I can live with this. I have a feeling as the Gcam app gets better and more optimized it'll stop eating my battery and heating up the phone. I'll post a few more pics from Gcam

Long exposure (8 seconds, ISO 100) photo from Milan, unfortunately I was behind a dirty window. Pretty satisfied with the result, I'll try to work on the RAW file later, but the automatic correction did a good job for me. (Sorry, can't upload images yet )

Camera Settings and Taking Photos

Ive seen some of the photos that other people have taken with the P20 Pro and they look amazing.
I'm no professional photographer and don't pretend to be one. I just want to take photos of my children when on holidays, days out, events and birthdays etc.
Every photo I take seems like a good shot, until you zoom in on the photo, then the image becomes pixelated. Another thing that seems to happen a lot is colour fading, every shot looks washed out or like it's lacking vibrant colours.
I've got the Huawei P20 Pro mainly because the camera was classed as the current best in mobile phones. I feel like I either don't understand the camera or that doing something wrong.
Could anyone offer any advice.
Depends on shooting mode and how much light you have. If I try to shoot in Aperture Mode in low light, I get pixelated photos as well. From my 1 month experience with the phone, I can tell you the camera is far inferior to that of other current flagships (especially when shooting pictures of people), mostly because of software overprocessing. It will usually oversharpen the crap out of everything (especially when using the 3x zoom lens) and will destroy skin texture (regardless of beauty mode selection). I get wildly inconsistent quality across. While some pictures end up fine, most will look a lot better on-screen than on a computer. Also, the pictures will almost always be brightened after processing, which means that what you're seeing on screen when taking a picture is not how the final photo will look. I'm coming from a Samsung S7 and its camera provided very predictable (and sometimes maybe even better than Huawei's) results, where what I saw on screen is what I got. I'm quite disappointed by this phone. They really need to fix their software, but I doubt they'll ever do that.
I tend to just use the standard AI and have got (IMHO) some lovely pics without filters or tinkering. I've started an Instagram of some of my favourite P20 Pro pics - not sure if we are allowed to link to them on here these days ?
That's what I've been doing recently and they seem better than before.
I think we can link pictures as it's not advertising.

I've just started adding a few of (what I consider to be) my best shots.
I will admit, those are some nice photos.
I think I'm going to take some outside shots tomorrow and see what they turn out like.
I'll gladly share them with you, for comparison purposes.
I have the P20 Pro since few months and i compare it with S9, S9+, Pixel 2 and IPhone X, i assure you that this device have one of the best phone's camera in 2018, you can also look in the DXOMark that is the TOP-1, i came from Galaxy S7, and S7 have a good camera very similar with S8 and S9, but the versatiliy of the P20 Pro is far from them, also if you take pictures in sunny days with the 40mpx sensor, you will see that looks like a professional camera, its true that sometimes the IA is overworking the scene, but you can disable on the screen easy
If you want camera samples, you can just check this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...hotos-huawei-p20-pro-share-fantastic-t3774488
