Speaker not working - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hello my friends,
my brother and me have something weird happening on my brothers Mi 9.
Both of us are running the official Pixel Experience Android 11 rom. For my brother the mic is not working, after he turns on the speaker. It wont start working again till the call is hang up and started again. I dont have any problems like this even though we are running the excact same rom.
We also tried clean flashing the rom several times on his phone, but that didnt help either.
He experienced the same issue on the older Pixel experience builds. In whatsapp and telegram the speaker and mic are working fine. Im not sure about MIUI rom.
Do you have any clue what to do or what could be the reason for this strange problem? We would really appreciate any hints!

My Mi9 is hard bricked. A GSI accident. Tried to go from android 10 back to 9 forgetting I was using China firmware.
Can't help you sorry.
I'm New Zealand I need $90 for someone to try an unbrick my device.
I do have an opinion about the Mi9.
Sell it an get a cell with less hardware an software configuration issues.
It drove me nuts. Almost the whole time it worked. I think Xiaomi made them with a few deficiencies.
Customizing them does not seem to help them overcome their issues.
Get a newer cell if you can

[Q] Earphone not working during calls

I got my phone about a month ago. I updated the software to 4.4.2 kitkat released by sony. It's not rooted. This problem occured yesterday for the first time. When I call someone or someone calls me, the earphone doesn't work. I don' hear anything. When I run earphone test in Service tests, it works fine. The problem is fixed when I reboot the phone. But I can not reboot the phone everytime. It happened once yesterday and next time now. I am so pissed off. This is my first sony phone and so far I am very dissapointed. My audio jack flap is opening by its self and as I can see a lot of people complain about it. I hope this can be fixed

Hi, is there any particular reason why you want to keep using stock firmware and not to root?
If not might I suggest rooting and using a custom firmware, because in my experience custom firmware is much more reliable than the stock.
Its really quite easy to do and the phone seems to benefit from doing a clean install getting rid of any junk thats built up over time.
Good Luck!

I recommend you to use SUS or Sony PC companion to "reinstall" FW i am not sure if this can help you but its better than sending it to repair center without trying anything. Good luck and don't forget to backup you data, etc.
Same Earphone problem
Hello, i have the same issue too. Every rom (stock based) i install, that use 4.4.2 have the same issue.
Its very annoying, have someone can resolve this?
I have, UB and at moment ExistenZ Rom
I just opened the forum to make a thread about this, as I'm facing the same problem and it can get really annoying.
Sometimes my phone works normally for 3-4 days, and then it just suddenly happens. Someone calls me, and I can't hear them, but they can hear me...and after I reboot it usually works.
I flashed the 4.4.2 UK Generic a few days ago, and now I face two different problems regarding calls : first one is like this, I can't hear people that are calling me, and the other is that sometimes I don't hear them for a few seconds and then I hear them again, and then again I can't during the call. Don't know if this is firmware based, I guess it is. If I can remember correctly 4.3 worked perfectly, as I got the phone already on 4.3 firmware.
Also Cyanogenmod has the same issue, as well as PAC-man (some versions of these ROMs, the ones I tried LOL) so I'm wondering could it be a hardware issue...what are your experiences? If someone can confirm that it is a firmware issue and that 4.3 doesn't have these problems, I might actually switch back because its annoying and the phone seems to be working better on 4.3, even though I love the transparent interface of Kitkat =)
Have a nice day guys, hope we will fix this issue !

In 4.3 stock, the earphone seems work well, but i want 4.4, and for some time it worked
Hi there
I'm having exactly the same issue on 4.4 (existenz ultimate)
I can confirm once I had this issue on stock 4.3 rom as well (existenz 7). I installed Soundabout app and it fixed the issue somehow, and i never experienced the problem until yesterday (on 4.4) . I again installed soundabout, it worked for some time, but now earphone doesn't work again. It's really frustrating! According to service test it's not a hardware problem. But could sony engineers make the same mistake twice (both in 4.3 and 4.4)?

So, are you positive its not a hardware issue? I sure hope that Sony is going to fix this and all the other Kitkat problems they've had with this new update that got certified (10.A.5.1.283)..Its probably going to be 4.4.4 and the last update for Xperia Z, as Android L is probably reserved for newer phones and Sony won't get anything from supporting the update for the original Z.
I really like Kitkat but if this earphone bug is related to Sony's Kitkat update and the next version doesn't fix it, I'm sure I'll get back to 4.3, as its really frustrating when you need to make an important call, or if you're in a hurry about something and your phone doesn't work...
If anyone knows the cause of this or is certain that it is related to specific firmwares please help us out and write it here.
Greetings from Bosnia
Lets hope it will be fixed on 4.4.4
maybe i will try another stock firmawares, based on 4.4.2, just for know if its region firmware related

i try existenz v7 and have the same problem, but its based on 4.3, and stock 4.3 work fine to me, so i think maybe is something related to 4.4 sony framework
hello, i have tested lots off roms and the problem is ther on almost 4.4 rom. the Free Xperia rom, not have this problem.
i was thinking is there is some app that can manually disble the 3.5mm jack is on solution, but i not find that for 4.4
lets keep trying
I'm on stock .230 and never had this problem...

MI5 - CM13 - Bluetooth headset - Audio bad quality

Hi everyone, since i changed to CM13 people are complaining that they can't hear me properly when using BT headset. They say, i sound like R2D2. With the official firmware i didn't had a problem. I can hear the people properly. Anyone experiencing the same problem? Any solutions?
EDIT:
I'm starting to realize, that the issue seems to be periodical (not continuous).
I'm talking, everything ok, and then suddenly people have a problem hearing me.
Then in a while, everything is going to back normal. And then again...
Hello, i'm using the latest CM13 on my MI5. Everything seems okay with me. I did Clean Install

Hello, it seems that it was the headset. Bought a new one, and everything is good. The interesting thing though, that the previous one I was using for years, without any problems, also it didn't have problem with the stock firmware. anyway it was time to change

Crackling or static like noise in MIUI Beta 7.0 ROMs : SOLVED

I don't know if this has been answered anywhere and I am sincerely sorry if it has been.
I am faced with a peculiar problem with my 18K Mi Mix. The phone came with 8.2.5.0. When no updates were forthcoming I decided to root and install a custom ROM. Everything went fine and the phone booted up and I installed my apps. I was using 7.8.31 version of the Beta ROM. However I was faced with a problem of a crackling or static like noise in the background while making calls. The speakerphone and headphone or Bluetooth headset has no problems. Only the call speaker. So I imagined it to be a hardware problem and went back to stock. To my surprise, the problem vanished in stock ROM and any ROM based on Android 6.0. It is only present in Android 7.0. So I guess it might have something to do with the Android 7 ROMs themselves.
Has anybody here faced such issues. If you have kindly help me. I am kinda addicted to the 7.0 ROMs and wish to stay on them if I can get rid of this issue. I was using the Global stable ROM earlier.
Thanks for any help.

Well you've already done the hard work so may as well stick RR rom on the phone. All problems have been ironed out and think you will be happy, I went back to miui awhile ago had crackling in calls although mainly on Bluetooth.

Thanks. Will give it a try.
Finally cracked the problem. As I had suspected, this is a software flaw. The whole issue was being caused by the proximity sensor. The moment I turned the proximity sensor off all problems have vanished. Have replicated the problem a number of times, so am pretty sure that is the cause. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.
you don't fix the problem we need the sensor

You do need the sensor.
But since the problem is not happening with any of the stable version ROMs (I have tried Global stable 8.2.5 and China Stable 8.5.4), I am very sure its not related to hardware. So for the time being I am more than happy keeping the proximity sensor off and using Nougat 7.0 on my Mix. I am pretty sure this has something to do with drivers or firmware and will be taken care of, once the stable versions of 7.0 are released.

Even my Redmi Note 4 has that cracking or scattering sound when bluetooth calls are made. I found temporary solution that is Turn off the WiFi. Looking for permanent solution.

Sound randomly stops working in different custom roms

Hello everybody
I have benn using Mi 5 for about a year. And from the second week I used custom rom in it.I used almost all rom available for mi5 both Nougat and oreo.In different oreo roms I have faced a very annoying problem.Randomly the sound stop to work.A restart solve this problem. But this is very annoying. You can't predict when this is happen.microphone also stop working.phone call,ok google detection doesn't work.
Most surprising fact is,it is not constant in rom.I mean iy is not a bug of the rom.Because in same rom sometimes it happens and sometime doesn't. Like in los,I am facing this problem right now.But noT previous time.
Somebody please help

Question What is your experience like with the official Pixel Experience ROM?

Model: M2101K7BNY (rosemary_global) (Bought in Europe)
I want to flash PE+ on my Redmi, but first I want to know what other people have to say.
I already tried to flash PE GSI before and I got stuck in a bootloop, managed to fix it somehow (I think I switched to B or something like that, not sure) and promised myself I won't try it again. But now that the official ROM is out, I'm tempted to try it again.
1. I read somewhere that PE drains the battery in some cases with some other phones, is that also the case with this phone? If yes, how drastic is it?
2. I also read that the camera app that you get with PE is pretty bad. Can I do anything about that? I just tried installing GCam 8.1 for the first time on MIUI 13 just to test it out and the photos come out very dark for some reason so I want to know what can be done about that.
3. Does Bluetooth have any problems and can they be fixed?
4. Is it a straight-forward and easy process to go back to MIUI?
And lastly, are there any other important things that I should know?
Thanks in advance.
It has some problems but is good enough for now, srry 4 bad english.
Before this custom rom I was using Evolution X and that was working better but it was unofficial so I change to PE+ (and before Evolution X I had the stock rom MIUI but didn't like it).
The problems I found for now and hoping for a solution for them in the future are:
-Videos from Facebook and NewPipe lags sometimes, more evident in Newpipe but I think it's a problem coming from the Rom and not from the apps
-Can't use my DAC (FIIO KA1)
Only the first problem is really annoying.
About your questions:
-Don't know about battery drains, actually I didn't pay attention about that in this Rom and in Evolution X
-The Stock camera app is bad, but you can install the Google Camera app port with a XML config, there is a topic about that around here.
-I don't use bluetooth headphones (because for a ear infection) but for the moment didn't have any problems with other bluetooth dispositives
-I don't know if the process to go back to MIUI is straight-foward, following a tutorial should be enough.
I hope this reply could help you.
