Question Wqhd+ vs fhd+ ( huge performance issue ) (exynos) - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

As soon as i try to shift to wqhd+ with 120 hz , the performance of the phone decreases alot , i see stutters here and there . The phone remains extra warm while using , even the typing isnt as smooth.
But as soon as i switch to fhd+ , omg the phone is really fast again .. no stutters ,
Phone remains very light warm , typing super snooth .
Is there anyone facing the same issue ?
( reminds of my old s9plus with exynos where it was not able to handle wqhd resolution.)
My point is , why do they even offer wqhd when the chipset is weak to handle ?
Is there anyone facing the same thing ?

Fine here , been using wqhd 120hz since first time

Exynos ?
What are your ambient temperatures outside ?

I found WQHD to be smoother. Phone seemed less hesitant (for lack of a better word) in day to day interaction. For example, when set to FHD+, there would be a small delay after unlocking, before the screen starting accepting a touch input. Nothing lagged, but there was this feeling that the CPU/GPU was scaling up an FHD interface onto a WQHD screen (Number of pixels remain the same on the screen, whatever resolution you pick). Once i changed to native WQHD resolution, everything seemed to be instantaneous. It may be consuming more battery, I'm not sure - but i don't see a worse battery life than what it was on FHD+.
During a CODM session I noticed that FHD+ gameplay was smoother than WQHD - so that's probably going to be my use case for FHD+ - Gaming. For everything else, I'll stick to WQHD for sometime and post my experience if I notice any downsides.

What i have noticed is , if you change the resolution from 1440 to 1080 .
The phones data in certain apps still shows that phone is rendering 515 ppi
A restart is must after changing resolution ..
Try to reduce to 1080p , do a reboot , and then use the phone and see if there is a difference ..

Will try today and see if the reboot idea makes a difference over the next 1-2 days

So far, FHD+ seems to be easier on the battery. The touch delay has disappeared after a reboot, so thanks for that suggestion!
Charged nearly a day ago, and did regular usage including half an hour of CODM, WhatsApp, XDA, reddit etc mostly on wifi. Auto dark mode (sunset to sunrise)
With that kind of use case, I'm at 19+ hours since full charge, 4+ hours of screen on time and still have around half the battery left.
I can live with that.

So thats the point .
Qhd is good , but its not easy on cpu/gpu as well as battery .
I am more concerned about the overall general performance , ( not gaming)
Hows the overall performance as of now ?
Like using whatsapp , insta ,facebook , typing , browsing , etc?
Better/smoother than qhd? Or similer ?

Honestly speaking, general performance seems no different between FHD and WQHD. I can't even tell which resolution I'm running unless I go to the resolution setting page.

Yes .. thats true .. its just after changing the setting . You realise that its different .
After like 5 mins of using i barely notice the change in resolution .
I dont know how you are able to achieve that type of battery ..
I might have tinkered with a lot of setting , installed galaxy labs and good lock too .
According to you should i get my phone restored ( software) once from the service centre ?
Or will the factory reset be enough ?

I have good lock too, haven't used labs. I like to tinker with my phone as well. But I don't usually make changes outside what the OS allows (I've changed only user facing options, not dug into system disabling apps, or other such activity)
Service center will not do anything more than what you will do at home. If you think you may have messed up too many settings and can't recover from it, just do a factory restore and set up again. But for the first week or so, expect poor battery life as the OS settles down. Coming from a OnePlus, I actually quite like Samsung software. It has a polish that OnePlus lacks, being built purely for Speed. It's quite robust, just make small incremental changes to set up to your liking, battery life will settle down to a comfortable level.
My battery life was terrible when I got the phone a week ago, but has continued to get better with time.

Honestly, I dont know. Only way to find out is to try. But once again, I don't think Service Centre people will do any special software flash that you cannot do with a factory reset at home. If I was you, i'd not give my phone to a stranger unless I couldn't manage or fix something myself first.
BTW, what is your major gripe with your phone? Battery life? SOT? Standby? Performance? What is bugging you so much?

Sot , battery . I could barely manage 5-6 hours sot without gaming .with Aod on fhd 120hz
Using the camera makes the phone heat up alot and after using camera it throttles and even scrolling feels a bit laggy .
Changing to wqhd and rebooting ,
The ui feels less smooth , the response time reduces , apps like snapchat and instagram start stuttering .

That doesn't sound alright. Have you done a lot (i mean a LOT) of tinkering with the OS? If so, something might have gone off the rails and causing problems. Impossible for me to say. But the phone is buttery smooth... I don't think you should accept any lagginess. Most of the heating issues are also gone after the April update, so I'm not sure what has your device spooked. Which country are you from? Can you get an easy replacement or are you stuck with your device like in India? I'm not saying your device is faulty, but if its bugging you and you can get a free replacement without losing money, get it swapped with a new one.
If that's not possible, the easiest way out will be a factory reset at home.
I'd say go for it, wipe and set it up afresh.

Unfortunately i am from india bro .
Bought offline ,
No replacement/return
I know if i submit in the service centre they are gonna destroy my phone ( may be sratches / mishandling or they could open the phone and destroy the waterproofing)
What i am planning is go to service centre and get the phone flashed again . ( i am least sure that it could be a bad os install on my phone )
A factory reset is what i can try at the moment .

This is a very expensive heartache otherwise! I can imagine what you must be going through. Spend the Sunday setting up a freshly reset phone. If you start now, you should be done by night. Damn thing has soooooo many settings to navigate.

Are u signed in to samsung account?

Yes for both.
But I made sure to uncheck the Samsung Customisation Service during setup. I only ticked the boxes that were compulsory for allowing the setup to proceed.

HELP!!! phone heats up ever under mild to moderate usage. why ?

hello friends , i have a lg l90 (d410) that's barely one and a half month old . it's currently running on v10 d stock firmware and is rooted. I am finding it to heating under fairly mild to moderate usage.
Here's a brief overview of my usage patterns:
1. brightness at 30%
2. using single sim and data connection is on edge network throughout
3. have removed all google bloatware, currently have very few apps installed from the playstore & also greenify them post-usage
4. use a nillkin frosted shield hard case
Even after following all precautions, I can't help but find my phone's upper part & the area below the camera (at the back) to be heating up fairly fast, sayif i watch 4-6 mins of hd/full hd video on mx player at brightness "10" & sound "12" under H/W or S/W or say when I am using data-intensive apps & would suddenly have to attend a call in between, i would find the earpiece portion really warm. no matter how many apps i get rid of, thinking it would solve the issue, I always fail ! I use cooler master to determine apps that cause overheating & coolify to cool down but they don't seem to be of any help either!
Any idea about what could be causing this issue on my device? Should this be adjudged as a hardware fault & the unit be taken to the service center? I know this isn't fairly normal because ppl r hailing l90 for not warming up even during moderate gaming but mine even warms up while charging!
Any possible software-hack workarounds to get rid of this issue?

Its probably hardware. I have an L90 whose screen flickers. A friend has L90 with poor speaker quality. Its not perfect.
Look at battery temperature using app. Under 37°C is good.
I wouldnt blame. Galaxy S4 goes upto 44°C
@fear2433 thanks for reaching out to me! ...I have seen my phone getting hot up to 47°c Celsius while playing angry birds go for some 2-3 mins. Watching a HD video for say, 5 mins takes the temperature to 41-43°c Celsius. It normally stays at 31-33.9°c. I really don't think this is normal!
Should I take it to the local service centre & request a PCB replacement?

Yes definetly.
But do not foget to uninstall custom recovery and Relock the bootloader, with KDZ method in the forum.
They will be happy to push the blame to you because you "rooted"

Note Taking Lag with s-pen?

I just got the Note9 512 8gb version. When taking notes I get an annoying lag or delay. Is this normal? I thought it would be super smoother. Also the delay time varies a bit too. Its like sometimes letters I write show up late and I'm already on the next letter. You have this happening? Especially when writing fast
I rebooted and cleared cache in storage maintenance. Thanks for feedback.
EDIT: I FOUND OUT THE ISSUE - GO TO PAGE 2
On the Note8, there was ZERO lag when writing. I write constantly on here and have never seen lag once. So I doubt that's normal on the Note9.

Damn! I mean Good! I mean damn my phone has lag taking handwritten notes :/ I wonder if its another feature that is turned on or another app interfering. But I havent installed much....
I've taken loads of notes in the week or so that I've had the Note 9 and never noticed any sort of lag whatsoever.

After my restore... the lag is back. ITs back :/ and I'm not sure if changing phones would help
It is not lag. It is called input latency. And the people claiming there is no latency on note 8 or 9 need to watch closer and see some demos of input latency. I skipped the Note 8 for this among other reasons. If I had to guess the input latency is about 15ms ±5ms. Pretty damn good. If you write fast you're going to notice it more.
Lag, latency, stuttering and frame drops are all completely different things. People are just using adjectives to describe their experience when things are more technical. It is kind of like many people don't understand lower case and upper case B's when talking about megabits and megabytes per second or giga-. Latency is a big deal for online gaming and steam link. That is why the hard core gamers will use Ethernet instead of wifi for gaming and the same for steam link. That 40-100ms or even more saved is a huge deal. It is obvious when you use steam link over WiFi and then go to Ethernet.
As far as the OP I don't know if you have a legitimate case of input latency or your expectations are too high. As I mentioned there are many videos to show input latency. I believe Microsoft has one of the better ones with a demonstration board that can dial in the input latency demonstrating over 100ms, ~50, 10 and 1ms. When under 10ms starts happening on every phone is when it really becomes game changing for not just flagship owners but people across the world that use these marvellous mobile devices. iOS used to much smoother for years than Android but input latency was still a thing. Now iOS and Android are competing head to head as far as latency, scrolling, frame drops and lag. It has become something Apple could not ignore anymore even though their SOC has been more powerful than Qualcomm and Samsung the last couple of years. All that power and it was dropping frames, scrolling janky, and input latency was noticeable despite their claims. Features have been put aside for iOS12 and focus has been put on performance. As you can see Samsung did this with Oreo and the Note9. The note 4 input latency was horrible but the phone was still ahead of it's time.

After we did the factory reset it worked perfect, I could not replicate the delay I am complaining about.... if it was what you are saying, wouldn't I see it all the time? I could not recreate the issue at first, only till after I did a restore of my data did the problem come back. If I handwrite... sometimes its a one letter delay.. or even 2 letters will appear after I write or once in a while 4 letters!! so that is like a stutter.
Have you tried clearing the cache data in the storage maintenance menu? That might help
Note 9 factory software is lagging much than s9+.
Hope samsung will resolve lag issues soon

Yea I tried that and also factory reset. Like I said... after reset I couldn't recreate the problem until I restored some of my backup. OR it may only seem to happen in certain note views... as far as I know there are 2 view screens ... it seems to have less 'lag' in creating new note right away. The edit screen with the default lines on the "paper" the view is a bit different and that is where I get the most lag it seems when I write.
So I just got my replacement. Before I did my restore I tried notes. I was SOOOOO relieved as note writing was perfect... no lag.. no delay.. I could write smooth.. awesome!!!! BUT . I did my restore and my problem is back! What the hell is going on? ^%$ . So now I will factory reset, AGAIN, and just build up my phone without a restore :/ and see if I can get around this problem. Will report back.

I found the problem! And reported it to Samsung. Can you recreate this issue on your phones?
So my backup settings had option for Accessibility > Vision > Magnification > Triple Tap Screen to magnify if this is turned on = I get wicked lag while writing notes. Its not that I am triple tapping getting a bigger size either. Just something with the gestures while writing is interfering with Accessibility Magnification settings. Turn the setting off and all is good.
Can anybody confirm?
Samsung 9 is not available in my country right now. Hope this will available soon, I am waiting :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:

The problem is that you are importing your notes made using the old S Note app onto the new Samsung Notes app. There appears to be a compatibility issue between the two. Which Samsung never addressed.

No I fixed my particular problem ! I explained above. It has to do with the Accessibility > vision > tripple tap magnifier interferes with notes if turn on. Doesn't matter if its an old note app or new note being created. I thought something like you at first, but no my issue is this bug. And it is a bug. Turn on "Triple Tap" on your phone and create notes and report back to me how crappy it feels .

Guess it must be a bug that affects the US variant. As I am using my company's Exynos variant and everything is super smooth.
I just recreated the issue on my new S4 I got from Korea. So that is 3 devices I tested on. Try turning on tripple tap mag. Then write a note writing fast.. example try. The word THIS lot. The IS will ghost and delay thus screwing up brain to write neater etc.

Hardware Super Boost and Force GPU rendering

Hello redmagic3 fellows,
I mainly play pubg mobile everyday and only turn on GameSpace and set it to Super Mode.
The in game graphic settings that I use is Smooth Extreme.
Whilst under Developer Options, there are this feature called Hardware Super Boost (with red font warning "This optimization is experimental only and could impact some functions) and Force GPU rendering.
Have any of you tried above features? If yes, does it really improve gaming experience and smoothness?
Thank you
Can't you just display frame rate on screen, apply the change and see if it goes up? If you are already hitting the fps limit for the game then try it with some benchmarks. (i don't have this device yet)

I dont have the frame rate app installed on my phone becausse I read the review, it said that my phone has to be always connected with a laptop/pc, to me it is such a nuisance on gaming wise, too many cables hanging around, earphone cable is already enough for the mess.
Anyway, I will wait for those who have already tried before.
That feture was bisabled in new version, it won't bring any improvement for your phone. However, if you can find the V2.24 Chinese version, it will work

Wait what.. You don't need to be connected to anything to display refresh rate on screen. If there is no option in debug settings to show refresh rate on screen, then i would use GLTools or something to display it. If you are not rooted its probably not worth messing with.

If you are using the global version ROM, IT WON'T HELP. If you are using Chinese ROM and the version is V2.24, it will help and improve the performance.

Question Current usability of the xiomi 11t pro

Hey guys i was thinking of getting the 11t pro,and for a few reasons i can only go for a mi phone at the moment ( i actually am getting quite a large discount from mi store in India). So my question have most of the issues like the overheating been ironed out or are there still issues with it and what other minor/major issues are there with the phone cuz for some reasons finding issues with this phone seems quite difficult on YouTube or else where. And how is the display and have there been any cases of black crush issue on the display. Thank you
Got the phone in January and have no issues whatsoever. The last update we got and I have no more heating issue. Screen has never given a problem either.

I am glad to know that. Is there any other quirk to the phone? And I would also like to ask you is there an option to disable the 120watt charging and like limit it to like 60 or something?

That option only exists in xiaomi.eu rom, and it's an option to either turn on or off, you can't adjust the voltage, with stock rom then no. If you want slower charge just get a slower charger imo.

Got the phone in January and have no issues whatsoever. The last update we got and I have no more heating issue. Screen has never given a problem either.

Do you game on your phone much? I'm thinking of picking up an 11t pro, and wondered what temps were like for gaming when playing something heavy like genshin or similar. I was wondering if lowering the graphics/screen rate would prevent the phone from overheating....?

Same all the reviews said there isn't overheating but there is heavy throttling. But those were from months ago hence i am not sure if that is still the case or they fixed the issues with a software update.
Amazing phone for the price but also annoying and bad. The screen is horrendous. Proximity sensor is the biggest let down of this phone. I'm constantly tapping the screen to wake the phone up. It's just not responsive to wake and also unusable while making a call. Every single app is pressed with your ear while making a call, then it becomes impossible to hang up or go back to phone dialer. This is a deal breaker for me, I would not recommend this phone. Running the latest global 13.0.4 MIUI.
At this moment I'm thinking of getting a 12 Pro but I'm afraid it might have the same issue due to virtual proximity sensor. Might need to go for a OnePlus 9 pro or 10 pro. But this phone needs to go cause the screen will drive you insane

I'm going to do a complete reset and try an EU ROM and see if there's any improvement. Cause apart from the screen issue I have this phone is a good phone, especially for the price and spec

Question can Spen option cause screen flickring?

Hello friends
i have S21 ultra exynos version, when i turn on Spen option in setting the top off screen is start to flickring (Small white horizontal lines difficult to see easily with the eye but it is visible when i focusing vision) its like vibrations when we bring a metal object closer to an old TV screen.
when i turn off the spen setting the screen its become normal
so any one can confirm that for me its normal that i see this or not? tnx in advance
I think it needs degaussed
Not normal for Notes. May be a firmware glitch, try at different refresh rates.
Try a hard reboot and clear the system cache.

CRT's were fun. Got shocked more than once.
One time when I was replacing a huge one even though I had discharged it several times to no spark. Capacity memory is scary. Fortunately I didn't drop it, that could've ended up badly.
Sounds like firmware. The variable refresh rate displays are extremely hard to calibrate. It's bad enough trying to color/gamma calibrate at fixed rate display through its brightness range. It's near impossible on variable refresh rate displays.
I would just ignore it unless it gets worse*. If under warranty maybe then otherwise the cure maybe worse than the disease. There maybe other work arounds or use the one you found or the easiest... just ignore it. If it's not a major issues don't go too nuts.
*It's possible the rom got corrupted (single event upset) or one of millions of the transistor or mosfet junctions failed in the mobo or display matrix. Every wonder what happens when one or two fail?

If you take a screen shot of it:
If it shows on the shot it's the firmware or mobo
If it doesn't show it's the display
Can you return it do a charge back on the card used to buy it?

It may be the display. The active matrix is packed to the gills with mosfet junctions.
Try some Google searches; it will likely show up on Samsung members forum if it's an issue.
Take an image of it and do a Google image search if possible.
