Your notifications are set to do not disturb or off. Press your volume button to see these options
That means you dont have any phone network
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Free mobile app
I double the 'absolutely zero signal', that is what the symbol means.
I can confirm that the symbol means do not disturb. Check your volume settings if you want to change it back.
Source: Have Nexus 10 with 5.0
It means so you notifications are set to "none"
That means the radio is off, you are using wifi and have no signal through the carrier.
I've got a star symbol in my notification bar. What does that mean?

That means priority notifications only.
BTW, that screenshot was from my Nexus7 tablet running android 5.0

Right, and it's on. An empty triangle would mean no service etc. etc. Google used to have a document that listed all the (stock) icons. Perhaps they still do.
Priority notifications have:
no icon - all
star - priority
slashed circle - none (including alarms).
By the way this is a Nexus 6 area.
If he has a Wifi model then she shouldn't have the no signal icon to begin with. To me, this icon means its not a WIFI model and there is no sim card inserted or valid

I'm not sure what you mean here but the linked YouTube video shows all three states and the two icons. Perhaps you didn't notice that this device is running Android L?

Oh i was responding to the OP with the question about the circle with the line across.
MYSTERY SOLVED! i notice that even on the Nexus6, if you press the volume down button from the homescreen once, then press the word "NONE", it will create this circle with the line through it on the notification bar to remind you that you dont want to receive any notifications or alarms.
The answer was posted multiple times and a link to a demonstration video was provided. Did you post a question and then simply not read any of the answers?

Auto Rotate is turned off, that icon represents your phone being locked in veritcal position.

Just long tap on it and select Details to see what is it.
Turns out it was auto rotate and because of systemui tuner. It doesn't show up normally though
Hi is there a setting somewhere to hide certain status bar icons?
Thanks
Good lock does this and also UI Tuner, however neither can hide the Bluetooth connected icon but they do the rest.

I haven't tried connecting a device yet, maybe that's why I don't see it.
Not OP, But I just tried to install UI Tuner, But it keeps crashing. BTW I have an S10+.
Mine only shows up when I have an active bluetooth connection, other than that it is hidden
System UI tuner on the play store works and removes this icon, just have to use ADB to make this work.
can you remove the clock as well?

Good Lock is just the main program and you're not required to use the lockscreen, I don't. The notifications are controlled by the Quickstar module within Good Lock where you can hide the clock or have it on the left or right.

Just done it - it works!
Does anyone know what this status bar icon represents? It just showed up on my screen today, it changes numbers constantly, from like 5% to 50%. It's not my battery percentage. It changes every second or two. I have no idea what it is and would appreciate anyone's help.

post a screenshot
Could it be the screen refresh rate? In developer options there is a toggle to show that.
So sorry; I thought I had posted the screenshot. (Didn't mean to make this a guessing game.) Here it is.

Thanks for the response. That's not it, as the option is not checked in developer options. Also, it changes almost continuously, rarely at one number longer than a second at most.

cpu usage? looks like a cpu icon next to it
Memory usage i think you activated in notification bar options
Go to developer mode, this may be CPU related
This looks like an app you have installed. Go to settings and see what is allowed to display over apps which should give you an idea.
I think it's 3c toolbox
