I installed a version of Gcam on my phone and in my tests, I tried to make a video with the front camera. The version was certainly not compatible, the camera went up, but the screen went black, when I tried to go back to the rear camera the app crashed and the camera didn't go down. I restarted the cell phone, and to no avail. The sensors are apparently all working, I can take pictures with the front camera but it just doesn't go down when I leave the app. Is there no way to force the camera mechanism with some code or something? I'm using Ressurection Remix 8.6.7

[Magisk Module] Automatic Camera retraction on custom ROM
I made a magisk module that automaticly retracts the popup camera of the K20 Pro on startup if you have that problem on custom roms. Link: https://mega.nz/#!fIoSVCBa!OvKbNRthBG2S4agel_A5zfQksczM2EjGlq6IZg2sCZ4

Cappy had 2.3.5 rom, I picked it up with the cam not working. Reset, re-installed stock cam, cleared data, tried different cam apps even replaced camera hardware still no luck. Just now rooted, updgraded to CM10, everything is great but cam problem persists in both photo and video modes.
BTW Cam loads, you can see menu buttons on both sides + shutter. However, screen view finder is black. If you press shutter it hangs then resorts to home screen.
I thought upgrading to a newer rom would fix it. I am stumped now. What else could I do now or is the cam hosed?

Did you tried superwipe before installation of rom?
try to flash superwipe and after that flash the rom
Superwipe
Ok, the rear camera doesn't open. I can't switch to it in the camera app or snapchat etc. Flash doesn't work either, and if I do the "V" gesture for flash when the phone is locked, it restarts. I have:
* Cleared cache/data
* Disabled and re-enabled the app.
* Dirty flashed OOS 4.1.7 multiple times and have also flashed Franko's Kernel which I normally use (currently running stock kernel though).
* Google camera app multiple times. (had this before too, then I deleted it after this camera problem arose)
Not sure if relevant but TWRP has been giving me some error I haven't been able to fix for some time, and can't delete the file that it says it can't open (through twrp itself or cmd+adb) . Relevant SS attached.
Thanks.
You may want to try to flash the phone using the unbrick tutorial. Make sure you have a backup of internal memory
Hmm, I haven't tried that. I just did a clean install with no success. I deleted everything except USB OTG from TWRP. This has become much harder to fix than it should be . I didn't even do anything to set it off, I was in snapchat and took a pic and then it stopped and the rear camera/flash haven't worked since.
Just to update, I just tried a clean install of NLOS Lineage OS and the rear camera/flash still didn't work. Also, if I try to take any type of video with front camera the phone says "Low memory, adjust the picture resolution or delete some files" even though there's only 3.3 GB of space used.
Also, after a clean flash and wipe of everything the error reported by TWRP no longer exists. So that wasn't what was causing the problem.
Just used the unbrick tutorial. It worked perfectly however the problem still persists and remains unchanged. Anyone have any other ideas?
After some deep diving through forums I decided to use the phone's inbuilt hardware tests, in particular *#808#, as the camera test given by dialing *#*#34971539#*#* doesn't work. Firstly, the flash works through the hardware test (although quick settings still doesn't). The "foolproof camera test" gives BackCamera PASS and FrontCamera Fail. This makes sense as when I go to the individual tests the "backcamera" shows the front camera image, while the "frontcamera" just says "cannot open camera". The PDAF/Cam_EEPROM info test says "FAIL Qualcomm", which I believe is the camera firmware not working. The storage test says "sdcard is unavailable" which I assume is why the camera isn't allowing me to record any video through the selfie camera and says "Low memory".
In summary, how do I fix the camera firmware problem and the sd card error?
RMA your phone, hardware fault.
Ok Thanks.
So there is no way to update/fix the firmware problem?

No.
P.S. "Thanks" button is for thanking, by the way. Use it in the future on this forum, whenever somebody helps you.
Im having the same problem on my one plus 3...did u find any solutions??? if yes plz lemme know.
I haven't found a solution.i replaced both The front and back camera and even played with old/new cameras in different configuration (old front + new back / new front+old back / no front + new or old back and so on) varying the result from "Back camera pass/Front camera fail to both Fail ) .the funny thing Is that if you just remove back camera and do the diagnostic menu *#808# > foolproof camera test it still says back camera pass
I have the same problem... And my camera before of this beta worked awesome... Beta 24 **** our phones...
Experiencing the same problem with the front (away) facing camera and the flashlight.
Same Problem for me since the latest official Beta. Ich tried resetting and reflashing the Phone with the last official stable rom. Did not help.
I think I solved this. I let the phone cool down then i powered it off. I let it cool down a bit again and then booted it back up. The camera and FL work.
It seems that this happends when the phone gets heated, at least in my case.
I have the same problem, camera was working fine yesterday. Foolproof camera test shows front camera fail. But the front camera works
Hey there, I got this weird issue regarding x526 front camera as it's not always working. After pressing button to switch to the front camera the camera app will freeze for some time and then will display info "cannot connect to the camera". The only way to fix it is to clean dalvik / cache, but its only temporary solution.
I have tried various ROMs from 6.0 to 9.0 and different camera apps, but in all these ROMs either front camera won't work from the start or will stop working after brief usage.
Any ideas how to fix this issue? Any help will be appreciated.
Dirt in front camera
A little update to my first post. I have noticed A lot of dust in the front camera lenses. It looks like someone was trying (unsuccessfully) to fix that camera, probably from the store. I have bought this phone from Bangood. Was anyone of you in a similar position as me? I contacted Bangood and told them I want them to resend a fully working phone. Still waiting for their reply.
Hi everyone,
i wish if anyone could help me with this problem:
i´m in latest evolution X rom(4.3 build may 13) and google cam stoped working video recording (the camera hardware its fine because the stock camera was working fine) , so i tried switching to front camera an then changing to video but this caused the pop up camera getting stuck outside (photo attached), and when i try using it with stock camera app its works fine except that its doesnt come inside the phone or make any light or sound.
i tried to push it by force but it became stuck half way and still give image but again, doesnt get inside the phone.
I wish to know if anyone knows how to fix this problem or how can i force to restart the camera or something like that.
thanks and any help would be great.
I found a solution, here in XDA Is an app which allow you to control manually the pop up camera, it need to be root but apart from that works flaulessly.

Here is the link to the XDA thread. Thanks
I recently buy this Xiaomi 11T Pro, but encounter an issue with the camera. When I switch to Portrait mode while using the rear camera, the camera would freeze at the blurry scene when I first switch. I can switch to other camera mode, but cannot press switch to front or view previous image.
Front camera Portrait mode is working normally. Is there anyone encountering the same issue, and have you find a fix yet ? I have tried factory reset to no avail.

I have no problem here, using Global 12.5.7, if you have alr factory resetted without fixing it, you can try to test the camera to know whether if it's hardware issue or not.
To do this go to Settings -> About phone -> All specs, scroll down to Kernel version and tap it multiple times until an app called CIT opened, the keep scrolling down until you see all the camera modules, they should be rear, front, macro and ultra camera with the number 25, 26, 27, 29 respectively. You can then test them one by one to know if it's still working or not.

I have tried following your instructions and able to test the first three modules successfully. But for Ultra camera, it cannot start taking picture. Was you able to test ultra camera, or is it just me?

Funny, all modules show up for me, the preview works perfectly but failed to take pictures. May be you can try some 3rd party apps like Aida64 to see if the camera still works.
Which version are you on? Global or other?
Maybe see, if theres an newer version camera apk online from the one in your phone. Maybe that could fix the issue.
I don't know how but the issue is gone for now. I noticed that the problem is with the ultra-wide camera, which affect the 0.6x zoom, portrait mode, and the Ultra-wide lens. I have done one more factory reset, then when it freeze, I switch out and back to the camera, which seem to solve the issue. Now it work normally, and I can also test Ultra camera in CIT.
