With the advanced mode of the camera,
is it possible to use manual focus with the wide angle and zoom lenses with the Exynos phone?
Thank you
Do you mean focus lock, where you can click on the subject and it will hold that focus, or are you looking for a slider so you can manually adjust focus?
The slider

Hi Guys
Does anybody know of a way to disable auto exposure? When I take pictures, often I want to focus on a particular area and 99% of the time that area seems to be darker or lighter so the exposure is adjusted automatically and I hate this as it often washes out images or over exposes other areas. I just want to be able to touch to focus and the exposure not change ... Is this possible?
Thanks

If you press and hold an area when in camera it will lock the AE/AF, the exposure and focus will now remain the same no matter where you point it. This will only work in 4.2.2 though (4.1.2 doesn't have this feature).

Thanks for the reply ... I have tried this but often I want to focus centrally and when you hold to lock it it still seems to over expose. I was hoping there was some Mod that might disable exposure unless you manually adjust it so you can touch to focus anywhere and whether it's dark or light, the exposure won't change.

Are you holding at a light point in the picture. If you hold at a dark point it will probably come out over exposed. If it's relatively dark I normally lock onto a street lamp or something else bright.

It varies tbh, I'll have to have a play with it and give it a full test.
HI, guys. I have a new Z1 on the way. I have read and seen comparisons that claim that the auto modes introduce a lot of noise and that, while the camera is capable of great shots, the software often lets it down.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the best manual settings are to use. I know they will be different for each setting (dark settings, etc.), but is there a go-to group of manual settings that you use most of the time rather than superior auto?
Thanks!

In manual mode you must stop breathing to not shake the device and capture best detailed photo with less or no noise.
You can also disable flash and use exposure to capture bright photos without flashlight.
You can select manual ISO, which is for light sensitivity. Or....
The ISO number is how sensitive to light the camera
is. It's descended from film cameras, then it would be
how sensitive the chemicals were. The higher the ISO
setting the more light your camera picks up, useful
for low light conditions. However, as the ISOs get
higher so does the amount of 'noise' (visible pixels
that aren't supposed to be there) on your photos. It's
up to you to decide what's a suitable level of noise
and how sensitive you need your camera for each
particular photo.
in other terms
The ISO function sets the light sensitivity of the
camera's image sensor (this is similar to the speed
rating of film. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive
the image sensor and therefore the possibility to take
pictures in low-light situations.
If you find the camera is using a shutter speed that is
too slow (1/60 sec. and slower) to handhold the
camera steady and shake-free then you might select
the next higher ISO which will then allow you to
select a faster shutter speed.
F-stop is the measure of the aperture setting on a
lens. The greater the number, the less light it allows
in, which means the aperture gets smaller, making the
depth-of-field more extensive.

Hope you didn't had a heartattack!
I found the settings of google camera that give the best HDR+, portraits on Nougat/Oreo Exynos devices. Compared to stock camera, GCam gives better saturation levels and detailed images. HDR+ parameters don’t hugely matter what you choose, and is all personal preference. A higher amount (very high in my case) will take a longer time to process.
New settings attached below. Clean Install is always recommended.
Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exynos.apk
3.2.9 Features
-Fixed black level back camera for Samsung Galaxy A8/A8+
-Attempt to fix OIS
3.2.7 Features
- Fixed black level front
- Enabled OIS by default
- Added saturation options in Advanced HDR+ settings
3.2 Features
- Dark Theme for settings.
- Now you can select the path where to save the photos (doesn't work on sd card but probably can work with some xposed mod).
- Removed all the snapdragon toggles. The app will know when apply that settings.
- Removed custom denoise param and other settings
- Now the app will restart every time you go back from settings to the viewfinder. This means that you don't need anymore to restart the app to apply settings
- Now there are three gestures in the viewfinder:
1. double tap on the black area it will pop the exposure menu directly
2. long-press on gallery and it will open samsung gallery instead of google photos
3. long press on the switch camera and after the restart the viewfinder brightness will be set to maximum
- some minor changes
Gcam Tool v2..32
-Prevent flipping of front camera photos
-Choose which photos you want to move
-Select custom source and destination folders
-Batch move multiple files
-Option to delete the sub folder created by Google Camera
Download

Nice.. I couldn't get that movement correctly to slide it to get lens blur
But it seems to be a old version without the original portrait-mode. They are working on it and posted versions that are working for snapdragon but not for the exynos right now.

Not at all, Live Focus is infinitely better than lens blur. Lens Blur can't detect edges for ****. The problem with Live Focus is it requires adequate lighting for good processing. Lower light tends to do about as well as lens blur, for me at least.
Also Live Focus is fantastic as generating a gradual bokeh across the ground or a wall, it's way more natural. Lens Blur can't do anything like that.

I agree that but lens blur and live focus are totally different in work. Lens blur is a good replacement for devices like S8, S7 etc.
There's a new version that supports Portrait mode, and is working on Snapdragon variants... I've tried, but can't find any setting to work.

For me, the Google app is more natural than Samsung. The Samsung looks more artificial. Check by yourself. I installed the app as in OP. No problems at all.
A common method of manually changing the point of focus is to tap the screen in the area in which focus is desired. How can I somebody a focus point in the default camera app?
I cannot find an option to enable this function, and by default, tapping the screen takes a picture. As one cannot be expected to use manual mode to focus every picture, there must be a setting or ability I am overlooking.
Thanks for any help provided!

Have you tried the press and hold the screen? I think it locks the auto focus on the feature in the scene.
Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
Hmm, that does lock the focus on an area, but my issue is that the image--or the desired portion of an iimage-- does not properly come into focus to begin with. On previous phones, I've been able to tap an area of the screen in order to make the phone focus on that particular area.
The issue with images not coming into focus correctly especially effects the zoom camera. When using manual focus, I have no problem focusing images properly. It is quite frustrating to have to manually focus every photo I take with that lens.
Any other ideas? Have you experienced the focus issue I'm describing?
Edit: I've noticed that tap-to-focus does work as expected in video mode, but in photo mode, of course, it activates the shutter. Hopefully a future update will add a setting to disable this functionality. Until then, I may just have to rely on the--somewhat cumbersome--manual focus.
Actually, scratch that. I think the focus lock actually accomplishes what I'm looking for! I've noticed that in a addition to locking the focus on an area, if the area isn't currently focused, it will actually bring it into focus as well.
Thank you very much for the help!

No prob glad you figured it out.
Using 3x zoom in the camera doesn't switch to the 80mm lens. It just gives a crop from the 40mp main sensor.
Is there a way to actually use the 3x lens?
In my case to make it work I force Focus, after that i can see the swap between lenses.

How do you force focus? I tired manual focus and it still didn't change lenses when going from 1 to 3x

That doesn't do anything but use a crop from the 40mp sensor to give a fake "zoom". You would get the same results using the 40mp mode and cropping the image yourself
I'm convinced the optical zoom lens exists for nothing but marketing. The only lens on the back that is ever used for any photos is the middle lens.
Maybe it is something weird with mine. You can check this by covering the other lenses with your finger

You must use it in enough bright environment because it won't switch to zoom lens when it's not enough bright.

Dude, everyone can see the lens switching, the telephoto one have OIS, i use the zoom all the time, if i cover the telephoto lens i cant see anything, so yes the telephoto is fully functional and not a made up marketing, in pie they even added a toggle to the HDR mode so you can get HDR pictures using it faster. (in adroid oreo you can manually zoom until 3x on HDR but now alot easier). the only times you cant use it and the phone will switch back to the main lens, is:
1. At Night or when theres not enough light.
2.If you try to focus a object that is just too close.

I was wondering why my indoor 3x zoom pics were so poor. I had tried covering the zoom lens in the past, proving that it actually does switch between the two lenses. What I didn't realize until now, is that when the camera doesn't have enough light, the zoom lens isn't used and the 3x becomes a digital zoom using the main (middle) lens. You can easily see this by turning on the 3x zoom, covering it up, and shifting a live view from a bright window to a dark area inside - when pointing outside the lens is blocked, but when you swing around and point the camera inside you can see the image (because it is no longer using the 2x lens).
That explains the poor indoor zoom shots I've been taking - thanks!!
Now I still need to find out what the monochrome lens is actually doing in colour photos. Playing with blocking the lens only seems to have an effect in monochrome mode, but it is supposed to contribute to capturing all photos. Any suggestions...?
