Hello,
My dad bought the p9 not so long ago in China, EVA-AL10C00B386, android 7.0, EMUI 5.0, he stopped using it shortly after because if whatsapp was no open in the background, he would not receive any notifications.
My phone died yesterday so I'm trying to use his p9 now, not only whatsapp doesn't receive notifications when offline, I noticed that you can't use whatsapp on your pc either ( since it requires your phone to be connected when used), so I guess whatsapp (also telegram, but I guess it's a general problem) just doesn't run in the background when the app is not active.
I've been searching online for a fix, but I only found irrelevant solutions.
Is there any way to fix it? and if not, will installing a different rom fix the issue? if so, is there any specific rom I should get?
EDIT: I enabled developer options, and in the Running Services, whatsapp and the rest aren't running, so why is the phone blocking these services?
Thanks
try to use protected-apps to receive notification
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/152649/what-is-protected-apps-in-huawei-phones
I can not find the protected-apps options, I looked every where, and under Battery, it doesn't exist, the closest option I found was settings -> battery -> close apps after screen lock.
And I already disabled it for everything.
For me worked to add a widget on my homescreen of the app you want to run in the background. With the widget the phone is forced to run the app in the background. With Whatsapp for example you can add the widget with all of the chats.

That's good to hear that it worked ?. You could also make Whatsapp to a system app. I don't know why but that works also but you need root for this.
all the battery optimization settings for both apps are the same, what can i do?

tried every setting EMUI and Android have to offer, nothing, i need a hack
Tried this?
Go to settings, battery and go to "Close apps after screen lock".
Whatsapp must be off so the switch must be greyed out.

And also, do you receive WA notifications on locked screen - if you receive, then it's ok

For me worked on my EVA-AL10 that you create a widget from whatsapp (the first one with the unread messages) and put it on your homescreen. Now WhatsApp is forced to run in Background and you receive the push notifications.

What other apps do you have ? I think it works with every app that has widgets. I suggest that you make a page with all the widget for the apps.
For me the problem sovled after i debranded my EVA-AL10 to L-09 and flashed BluWei. So I think the problem only existed with the Chinese Rom.
Other methods:
Try Settings>Apps>Settings>Special Access>Ignore Battery Optimization. On the dropdown select all apps and search Whatsapp and click on it. Then select allow. Now it should run in the background.
The last thing that i remember doing is turning Whatsapp (or any other app) in a system app. You need root and i used the app "/system/app mover":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover
Just click on the app you want to convert and press ok. Then reboot your phone. The only problem i had was that the /system partition wasn't very big so i could only convert like one or two apps (this changes with different phone/system versions)
If this doesn't work I would recommend installing an other rom like Magic Rainbow, Moonlight, Bluwei (all emui based) if its a big problem for you
Hi together,
I don't get push notification fro Whattsapp Messages and Aquamail mails in standby. After unlocking the Screen, all notifications are coming...
I already tried to deactivate batter optimization...it doesn't help.
Can anyone help me?
Kind regards,

Allow unlimited data access, whitelist from battery saving, and allow to run in background.
Allow the app to ignore battery optimization too

I've tried all the suggestions here and still have trouble. I'd leave my phone for an hour or so, turn the screen on and a whole bunch of notifications come pouring in from WhatsApp, Gmail, Messenger etc.
My settings are:
1. Apps -> Apps -> Special Access -> Battery Optimisation -> Not Optimised (for all my email and messaging apps)
2. Battery -> App Launch -> Manage Manually (for all my email and messaging apps)
3. Wireless & Networks -> Data Usage -> Data Saver -> Off
Is there anything else I need to do? This is a serious problem for me and quite frankly, I need to get a new phone if this keeps happening.

Thanks for your reply. I've already done that actually. If you don't touch your phone for say an hour, are you sure the notifications are coming in when it's sleeping and not just when you turn your screen back on?

Thanks for your help, I've discovered the issue now. I don't remember if someone mentioned this earlier and I'm not sure how I missed it, but the issue wasn't the apps closing when the phone went to sleep (since I did everything to make sure they didn't close), the problem was that the phone would switch off LTE and/or Wifi when the screen is off. The setting that controls this is in: Settings - Battery - More Battery Settings - Stay connected when device sleeps. Make sure this is turned on (it was turned off for me before).
I feel almost certain this was turned on in the past and feel it was only turned off in one of the firmware updates. I most certainly would never have turned that off. I can't believe they would use that as a default option since I can imagine only the most battery conscious users would want that off. They should at least have an option where the phone would automatically turn data back on periodically to check for notifications. I know there are third-party apps that do this but if they're going to include an option like that built-in, they should do it properly.
Anyway, problem solved, hope this helped someone else out there.
I have the same issue, but Stay Connected is on, and has been for as long as I've had the problem (2-3 days). No new apps, no new updates, affects all my apps. Driving me nuts. Anything else than doing a full wipe left to try?
same here, till yesterday everything was working fine, i didn't install a new app, configuration of battery settings, data background running is the same, also app locked in recent to run backround as before. update i did before 3 weeks. very strange
I'm very sure this problem occur since the newer software update, my device have same issue.
You can check how to remove PowerGenie (the huawei stock battery management), removing PowerGenie 'might' help you fix it.
I called Huawei and asked, and got a fix! It's not a huge lump of fun, but this is it:
Settings - System - Reset - Reset all settings
Note: all your stuff is still there after reset. Only thing that happens is that it forgets your wlans, your fingerprints, face recognition, lock screen pass/pattern, and all kinds of logins and permissions on your apps. And your apps will jump out of folders and make a hell of a mess. But it worked splendidly for me, notifications are popping up as they should, when they should. Gave me a nice chance to re-arrange my apps even.
Happy thoughts to Huawei (Norway) for having customer service available on the phone, on a regular number, and answering within a few seconds.

I just did it today and it was a complete lost of time. In addition of losing all settings (bluetooth, Wifi, applications and folder on launcher,...) it was not helping with notifications: no Outlook, no WhatApps, no banking app... In other word, nothing, it was worse than before.
I will continue to test settings like controlling launching applications and exclude applications from battery optimization.

Is it just push notifications you're not getting or are messages not coming through at all until device unlocked/app opened? I've been trying all sorts, searched "data" in settings and stumbled upon "unrestricted data access" all apps are disabled on this. Hoping next few hours will show that's me sorted finally.
Once my screens been off 15 minutes, friends WhatsApp msgs only show 1 grey tick their end until I open WhatsApp again

Is anyone else getting extremely delayed notifications on their Asus ROG Phone 2? I have noticed that notifications are taking about 10-15 minutes to finally pop up on the phone. If I go in to the apps, such as Google Voice, 2FA apps, PushBullet, Visual Voicemail, Outlook, GMail, etc... I see the information in the app, but the notifications still take a long time to actually pop up in the notification tray.
I had that happen in the beginning then I disabled all app manager stuff other than stock android battery optimization. So I disabled all the asus auto disable or mobile manager stuff. Just dig in the settings and fiddle around with it. I think the phone is still new so no one has a clear answer yet.

I'm having an issue where I don't get notifications from any apps unless they are big like Facebook/Messenger and What's App... Anyone now how to resolve this?
I've allowed the apps to auto-start, they are not being optimised by the battery, all notifications are active but still not getting anything..?

Hello everyone,
I just bought my new Realme X2 Pro from AliExpress a few days ago, and have been facing an annoying issue.
Although I have disabled Smart Power Saver and App Quick Freeze features in the settings, almost all the installed applications do not pop up any notification. I also have enabled notifications for each app, such as Yahoo email, Gmail, Mobile banking apps, Telegram, Imo, WhatAPP, etc., and have allowed them to always run in the background. I know it would drain the phone battery, but I thought doing these kinds of stuff would fix the notification problem. I did whatever the Realme website suggested and also what the community proposed.
This is my first experience with an unknown cellphone brand, and I have to put it to the experience.
I was wondering if anybody can advise me on a solution.
I have to mention that I did factory reset my phone thrice and also updated my phone to the latest OS version, but nothing changed!
Suggested solutions by Realme which did not work:

I would appreciate your valuable comments on this topic.
It's very strange,
I buy from Amazon the european blue 12GB 256GB and I only setup my programs and I don't have any issue in notifications at all.
I use Skype, Telegram, Whatsapp, 4 e-mails accounts and everything work good has expected. I have this phone 5 days ago and I don't have this notification issue.
And is a very boring issue.
As far as I know: Chinese ROM have problems with notifications ...EU ones is good

So go in the apps that you aren't getting messages from in the app list in the settings menu and in one of the options you can select wifi or wifi and data . I had a bunch of apps that were set to wifi by default so I had to adjust that (I just went through and activated the wifi&data option for all the apps regardless) and also if you like use adb to remove Athena package that fixed all notification issues for me.

Thanks, I just did it, but it didn't solve the issue. If I close the recent apps, no notification will be shown. I need to keep the apps running in the background and do not tap on close the application icon, which is not acceptable. We close the recent applications habitually.
Any solutions?
In my case it eventually worked for Gmail but Hangout still needed it to be in the background for instant notifications. I have already submitted a ticket to their Chinese bug forum.

Yeah, Gmail mostly shows the notifications, but Yahoo Mail, WhatsApp, IMO, and even mobile banking apps do not show any notification. I miss so many calls and chats because of that. I have enabled run in the background and have disabled the power saving, but most of the apps do not follow the rules. ColorOS kills them completely. I reckon Realme Chinese versions have these issues.

Yea hopefully they will fix some of it with the next update. But on the other hand you don't have to miss those calls and chats. We can still lock the apps in the background for instant notifications in the meantime.

Hi,
Even if we lock an app in the background, if we swipe up, that app would be closed! We usually do it. Realme and ColorOS should release an update for Chinese version of Realme X2 Pro model to get it fixed.
Same issue
I'm experiencing this issue.. I have a Chinese master gray model.. Such a disappointment when I started using this phone. Had such high expectations.
I never get email notifications WhatsApp works sometimes Facebook sometimes messenger sometimes who knows whatever else works and doesn't work. I went through 250+ apps turning everything on in notifications. My battery is set to high performance all the time.
This has to be the worst phone I've ever owned. Whether it's because it's a Chinese rom or Color OS who knows. Would love someone to find a solution
