The S4 Mini has the same age and its running Android 11, sadly, the code of this phone is abandoned since 2016 and its ugly in terms of some devs

Hi there. Have you checked out the basic Lineage OS website. They are running version 18.1 and provide regular monthly updates. This is for the Motorola X 2014 (XT1092). I've been running this myself and it's quite good. everything seems to work fine. the audio for voice calls is a little low for people on the receiving end of a call but it's pretty good.

Sorry, I don't know if I understand correctly, are you using this moto x 2014 custom rom on a moto x 2013 successfully?
It's really very sad for me to have to ditch my moto x, it's a great device that I just love, but without a new rom with android 9 or higher I'll have to let it go. But I still have hope.
Several apps no longer support nougat.

Android L on X b4 Nexus?

I just thought i would pass this along. Jerry, over on Android Central, stated yesterday in the podcast that the people he knows at Moto said that their goal was to release the update on the x before the nexus 5 got it..... again. if you remember last year they managed to do it. it ruined the phone, and only happened because Google stopped the rollout to the n5 to fix some bugs, but they did it anyways.
The moral of the story? If you want L really fast, the x is the way to go.
Let's hope just like 4.4.4 Verizon doesn't slow them down

i think they are mainly talking about the pure edition. they can literally upload the os and send it out to all pure editions the moment they get the code. last year though... verizon was the first to get kitkat. so who knows.
pretty much one of the biggest pluses of the X and why i'm on board. very good to hear this is going to be a continued trend with this device.

this is good news. i didn't know that the old Moto X updates were really quick. it is quicker than i thought. now for the new Moto X, it is going to be good!
will the old Moto X be getting L too?

the old one started with 4.2.2. when kitkat was released, some of the n5(s) got the update, but google immediately stopped the roll out because encrypted devices were getting bricked. a few days later (nine days after the announcement if i remember), the verizon phone got it. they ran the soak test side by side with the update to everyone else on verizon. then the next week att and tmo got it. sprint followed shortly thereafter. and i still had kit kat on my x for a 'minute' before my n7 got it.
the important thing to note is the og moto x was absolutely flawless on 4.2.2. then moto releases an update that they did not test and introduced all kinds of annoying bugs. it took seconds just to unlock and such. the app updates came a week later. and then were finally fixed, pretty much, a couple of weeks after that. but the og x has never been as good as it was when it was on 4.2.2.
another problem is that moto likes to tout how many of their customers are on the latest and greatest. so the way they make sure that 96% of their devices are running the current update is they pop up the update notification page on literally every click you make on the phone. the shove the update down your throat so to speak. i personally like to find out what problems peopl are having first... and then download. but i do realize that i am in the minority on that one.
the other updates that we have received on the moto were properly tested before released. in the end... fast updates have their pros, but they also have their drawbacks.

thanks for that deep info. it makes sense, fast isn't always better. I did read that 4.4.4 screwed up the OG Moto X, which was kind of a letdown. but I really feel that Android L is going to be complete, in a sense of no major bugs when it releases. I want that quickly. having a L preview definitely helps in squashing the bugs, which is why I am more confident in the L update being rolled out quickly not destroying the phone than all the other Android updates

That isn't true. Google ships Motorola the final Android L code before the public. But it will take time to merge their changes. People incorrectly assume Motorola runs stock android. They use a custom kernel and have a good bit of changes under the hood. I'm sure they will push L quickly after Google announces it, but it is not a simple process.

i am assuming the preview and the pdk that they have their hands on will allow for them to have the kernel ready. and moto gets it the same time we do...according to the htc infographic.

MOTO X 2014, Android 5.1 Update

Was just searching the net for past 2 days.... as soon as android 5.1 was released, there is not even a single news/ Rumors about moto x and android 5.1, So i figured
Lets Start a new thread, and something or the other is bound to come up!, got my android L update for MOTO X european version from right here so i figured lets start here.
if anyone has any information let us hear it
from what i found, there's some news on moto g running android 5.1, moto x 2013 being considered.
does that mean, we have lost the top priority :fingers-crossed:
i seem so eager coz this 5.1 is REALLY stable, i have got a nexus 6, just updated it... its smoother, some pesky bugs before, nothing now.
~~~~my moto x is suffering from bluetooth audio stuttering , among other bugs.
Did you see any change in camera quality on your Nexus6?
I mean do you think the new 5.1 will make the MotoX able to shoot in RAW and Camera-2 API will now be supported? Because that is the biggest thing which needs improvement in MotoX, and performance boost will be a boon, rest it seems stable on 5.0 as well.
Interesting, i can check it out , if someone can guide me how to .
P.s. the camera sensor itself is older version so don't expect it to be too good, samsung, oneplus one , oppo , nexus 6 all high end devices in latter 2014 use IMX 214 or IMX 240.. which are both 2014 released sensors ... On the other hand MOTO X uses IMX 135, which is released on JANUARY 2013, 2 years old now, Motorola has a reputation for increasing their, profits by using atleast one old part in their fabulous devices (HINT: moto 360, ti processor is sooo old, its parent company stopped supporting it and it drains battery too, could have easily used snapdragon400 but.... moto)
Moto X Pure Edition ( XT1095)
Well I'm searching daily for Moto X 2014 android 5.1 update but I'm not able to find anything. I had Nexus 6 I sold one week before 5.1 update, but I've tried it on my brothers Nexus 5 and its was really fast, especially the dialer app feels snappy now(but that was factory reset so not confident about that yet)..
Would love to hear more about Moto X 2014 android 5.1 update
Just leaving this message here, if anyone stumbles upon this question....
how to update XT1092 to android 5.1
as now android 5.1 is released for XT1095, and in future too XT1095 will be the first to receive any updates.... this is what my plan is.
I am Converting My XT1092 to XT1095 and then flashing the modem (google it).
TADA! thats it, that simple.
5.1 hasn't been released for any Moto X yet
As @chrisrozon says, there is no oficial release out yet of 5.1 for any victara (xt1095, xt1097, xt1092, etc). What is "out there" is a leaked soak test OTA. It's working but clearly unfinished; it has some serious battery draining wakelocks for some people.
Anyway, as soon as 5.1 is officially released (or after a few days if you're cautious), most people with non pure versions will be able to flash it and use it without reflashing original modem, since the new baseband of the xt1095 has been modified to work internationally. At least in latinamerica many of us could use the 5.1 soak with no baseband modification.
So if you're planning to convert your moto x to pure edition, i advice to do it once the 5.1 official release is out.
Cheers!
Manuel.
Does Moto x will get offical android 6.0
I want to know whether moto x 2013 will get offical android 6.0 update or not bcause most of the websites doesnt include moto x 1st gen in the list of devices expected to get android 6.0
I think many would tell you it barely got 5.0 and likely won't get 5.1
VZW still on 4.4.4.
So basically very little chance.
Most likely the only official way to get 6.0 would be through Cyanogen. It's gotten old and carriers are already showing signs of cutting out support. But hey I see no reason why the hardware can't support it.
Cyanogen isn't official...
In other news, I highly doubt Motorola/Lenovo will go to 6.0. They had to do all the hardware programming to make Lollipop work, and with the phone now 2 generations behind the latest, they probably won't devote any further resources to it unless there is another highly critical security update needed.
Maybe it is official in the eyes of the CM team since there is a maintainer, but it is not an official update. Call up any carrier and tell them you have official CyanogenMod install on your phone and see what they tell you.
Yes obviously it isn't the official update from Moto, I was only referring it to be official with regards to CM users which in my case is good enough regardless of whether Moto releases their own updates.
Battery drain issue fix
Will they provide any update to fix the battery drain bug occured after the offical android 5.1 ???????????
Actually there is quite a big chance that this phone will get 6.0 at some point, may come very fast or xtra slow as it happened with lp, but since MM is essentially the same crap as LP, it probably won't take them that long.
It's too early to tell, but I don't think the Moto X will have a chance
New July Security Patch out
New update comes out today OTA (reteu). It's 8.0.0 with 07/2018 patch. Nothing else.
Damn.. I was expecting it to be Android 8.1 + June/July security patch just like Moto X4 ( non Android One version ) received few days ago. But well.. better than nothing.
Yes, that's funny for a 799€ business phone. But maybe we get android P first before all other moto phones it get.
Nothing on retin model , still 01/May/2018 patch.
Also i cant see Patch details under Security & Location. Is it normal for Z2 Force bcoz even my Moto Z shows it
This is Lenovo (Moto) , it updates Mid range phones more than Flagships. if i see Android P coming to Moto G5/S/S+ or even Moto Z2 play is ahead in terms of updates (like it was already running June/July patch) its not a new thing for me
No no, Z serie get always 2 major releases. I think that's because we directly get android P (maybe first after Z3?) And an another reason is how many devices could sold in a time. Z2 Force maybe not so good as the cheap ones
Don't know the plans, but maybe Z2 Play get Android 8.1 as last update and the better Z2 Force Android 9.0, because it's the most expencive device. We will see
Hope so..but i am using moto since 2013 and always moto have done same thing eg. Only 1 major upgrade to G2,G3 but 2 major upgrade for Moto G4+ (Oreo for 2016 phone!);. Moto X Force (35K INR)got update till Android 7.0 , no VoLTE enabled but Moto X Play (17K INR) got Android 7.1.1 + VoLTE
The think is about their 2 major OS relases. Lets take our eg.(India) Moto Z2 Force was released in Feb2018 with Android O while it's been a available from 2017 with Android 7.1.
Now i cant understand will moto update this to P or Q .
Sent from my Moto Z2 Force using XDA Labs
Z2 Force will definitely get P. It would be a HUGE mistake and disrespect for the "high end consumers" if Lenovo don't update it.
Probably we're going to skip 8.1 and go straight to 9.0.
That way they keep their promise of 2 Android's version update.
But I doubt that we will get Android Q.
So a good phone like this with better specs. But gets nothing new or exciting. But the lower end phones gets all the glory.. I think Moto is backwards in that aspect.. Were as other like Samsung, LG, HTC will give better upgrades to higher end phones, then they will the lower to mid range ones.. I would also like to see more rom options for this phone. But hey it is what it is.. This is why I have only rooted, and debloated my phone.. Nothing to see here LOL.
This phone isn't so expensive anymore. Costs at the moment around 280€, so it's cheaper than Moto G6 Plus. Maybe that's why we get no android 8.1 or anything new. But android P we will get for sure. Or we can see it so, that we have a most stable phone. And new features maybe just for phones with good sales figures. Z2 Force is maybe not a box-office hit
And yes, I have paid more for this phone, too. But that's not the point, right?
You need to go back to stock. There is a thread for it. I'm not at my computer now so I can't link to it but look and you'll find it very easy to find. Then you will have to reboot again. You do not need to relock the bootloader
It Dosent depend on the current value , after months the Moto G6plus will be more cheaper than this. Also the Box price of this is much higher than Moto G6Plus and considering its a high end phone.
In India its still at ₹34999 and Moto Z (2016) at ₹29990.
Moto only considers the sale of the phone not the price segment.
Why is custom ROM support for this device so less?
I'm currently a g5s plus user which gets a lot of love from devs. And I see that there are barely any ROM'S for this device? What's the reason?
Cool this is the g6 forum not the g5+ forum lol I wanna know what even brings you to this forum since you have e a g5+. there's a couple being worked on for the g6 plus but there not ready for public release yet and that's it. No one really gives a damn about the Moto g6 or g6 play which sucks ass tbh. I've literally tried given an extra g6 play I had away for free to any dev and I was willing to pay the shipping even and no one even bothered asking about it so I got rid of it lol
Depends on the variant. G6+ was not released in the US officially so that hurt adoption as the G6 is not exactly a stand out device. The 6+ can be bought on Amazon in the US but it lacks a warranty and comes with Amazon bloatware(Alexa, Amazon.com, Amazon Prime Video/Music, Kindle). It also lacks NFC when compared to the 6+. It's more expensive then a Z Force 2 which has Moto Mods and better screen but older SoC. The US availableility is the biggest key! The g6 seems to be gaining traction though as prepaid carriers like Cricket and Straight Talk are releasing variants of the G6 now. The cricket version is cheaper then the G6 but has 16gb storage vs 32gb in the G6. Seems like the G6 Play is most commonly used on Boost Mobile in the US from to me. Boost is sort of a hit or miss carrier mostly depending on how good Sprint networks are in an area I believe. They are one of the rare sprint resellers.
I mean the phone itself is a great phone and if I didn't care about having root or if I was just a simple person that just used a phone like normal I would say this phone is amazing like if your friend ain't really into rooting or custom ROMs then still I would recommend it to them. But if they are into this scene I would not recommend it at least yet.
For the g6+ I say give it about another month to three months. There is a telegram you can join if you want more updates on what's going in the g6+ community right now. I unfortunately have the g6 play so I can't say I have much hope for my device lmao. I also have a Moto z2 force so I just mainly use my g6 play as a phone and basic light mobile gaming and my z2 force for my heavier mobile gaming stuff like pubg mobile lol.
We have working LOS16 custom rom that is daily driver ready for the most part. LOS updates our vendor partition to make the GSI format more compatible with our device. We don't really have a reason to make a ton of custom roms anymore when a GSI img can be made and work on 50+ devices vs a custom rom which can work on only 1 device.
We have working LOS16 custom rom that is daily driver ready for the most part. LOS updates our vendor partition to make the GSI format more compatible with our device. Thanks for the info
Yeah it's interesting how little is going on with the G6 platform compared to other phones. I picked up my G6 play for $80, a steal. It replaced my Moto x 2014 and my wife's Moto Z.
Yes there's occasional lag, but the phone itself looks and feels like a very high end device. I've also used the G6 which was much faster and the camera was nicer.
So for those saying the G6 "sucks" either haven't used it or are willing to pay $500+ for a "better" phone.
Pretty much this. The Play and the G6 shows that you don't need to spend $500+ to get a good phone.
Its like buying a BMW versus a Toyota. The $40,000 BMW depreciates to $18,000 in 2 years versus a $20,000 Toyota that will depreciates to $12,000. It's the same principle with phones. I'm thoroughly enjoying mine.
This is why I'm glad Treble exists. I've been running Pie for 2 weeks and it's still going great.
