I've begun noticing odd behavior w/ my S21 Ultra when I set it down on a flat surface.
Intermittently, I will hear what I initially thought was static/buzzing from a speaker. It's actually the phone buzzing/vibrating. This is not related to a notification, as I can reproduce it by setting the phone down a few times.
It appears to be the haptic motor running at a low frequency for no reason at all, and it will stop if I pick it up. You can feel the vibration coming from the top center of the device, and it creates an audible hum from whatever surface the phone rests on.
Anyone else seen similar?
I wouldn't think it's a software issue, but I may consider a factory reset. I'm running the U1 firmware on the U variant, but that doesn't seem like a logical cause.
I'd just check the settings menu called "system sound/vibration control" and then look at what's enabled for device vibration. Try disabling the vibration access to just ONE thing there at a time and see which one stops the idle vibration from happening.
If disabling one of those options prevents the idle vibration, then you'll know what to look into more specifically to resolve the issue. But without that information, there's not really a way that anyone here can diagnose the exact issue as it also might just be a screwed up/malware/other virus app that was installed... =(.
A family member of mine has an obsession with installing virus apps from the Play Store and then always complains about their phone being slow lol. So if you install more than 40 apps from the Play Store, then you're in the same boat as my family member (who for some dumb reason has over 100 apps installed from the Play Store lmao).

Not sure if it's my phone or a note 4 bug but I notice when I'm navigating, the system volume randomly goes low (ex: when pressing the back button the water drop sound goes low and goes back to normal after a few presses).
Have you done the second update? I had this happen many times but haven't seen it since the recent update.
The only time I think I have noticed something like this is when I bring up the lock screen on my phone. When I activated my screen and go to unlock, the popping color effect seems to start out low. Similar to how the default ringtone starts out low (the most annoying feature I hate on any Samsung Phone). I think the latest update may have changed this issue since I can no longer replicate it. Other than that I have not noticed any sound issues in applications or games. I will say the rear speaker is probably the only thing I really dislike on this device.
Thanks for the replies, I've been trying to update via OTA but keep on getting the "server reached its daily download limit." Tried using Samsung crap Kies software and "unknown error" when updating (go figures). Hopefully I'll eventually get the OTA update and I'll report back.

I get the same problem unlocking the phone as well.. Sometimes it very low when unlocking. It seems to affect only the system sound but anything that deals with media audio doesn't seem to be affected. Hopefully I can update and see if it fixes the issues.
I'm coming from the S3 and never had any problems with this, but on the S5 Pandora gives occasional hesitations (real quick skips) whenever I let it play with the screen off. It might happen 2 to 10 times per song, just depending. Sometimes I can go a while without it happening, but can't figure out anything that's different. It does not seem to depend on signal strength at all, as it happens in areas with good coverage. I thought maybe it has to do with the cpu being throttled down when the screen is off, but I'm not sure...but if so, I would think others would be having the same thing happen. Anyone have any ideas?
Uninstall app named 'adapt sound'
Or if you aren't rooted, just disable that app via the app manager. Please ask if you need further detail , I'll gladly assist.
I appreciate the suggestion, but after testing out quite a bit with "adapt sound" disabled, it seems like this isn't really making a difference.
I also should add that I'm usually streaming via an aux cable. After further testing, it seems that maaaybe toggling from the higher to lower quality audio makes a little bit of difference, but still doesn't eliminate the problem. Also, not sure why higher quality audio would be an issue given the strength of my LTE signal when this is happening...
Any other suggestions...
Are you not rooted/not willing to? I used a friends phone (not rooted) to test disabling adapt sound, they were having this same problem. Unfortunately disabling it didnt really change anything, to my surprise. I rooted the phone and fully uninstalled the app, and what do you know, the stuttering went away.
Now there could be a debate here about correlation vs causation, i have no clue how or why this happen(s). Just that it seemed to fix it for 2 phones ive personally dealt with.
I will find the discussion i previously read which singled out 'adapt sound' as culprit & see if there are other suggestions,
I cant believe no one else has anything to contribute
I am rooted but had tested your suggestion out by just disabling adapt sound from the application manager. I'll try completely uninstalling it though and test some more.
Another thing Pandora does is occasionally freeze upon opening after I've used it a few times since a reboot (it'll play, but everything in the app is frozen and the system will warn the app has become unresponsive). So I have to reboot to fix. With the stuttering and this, I had kind of decided Pandora just has problems running on 4.4.2.
Anyway, I'll report back after more testing, but would still welcome comments or suggestions.

I saw posted somewhere else that someone found out that if they turned off adblocking in luckupatcher it fixed it, so do you have luckypatcher with adblocking enabled or adaway? Give disabling that a shot if so and report back.

I never was able to resolve the hesitations, despite having tried various combinations of disabling system apps like Adapt Sound and MusicFX. I also did not have any ad blocking installed. I was also having both Pandora and Spotify freeze and act wonky right after starting them up, which required a reboot to fix. That problem was more regular, and so I eventually narrowed it down to the fact that it would happen after every time I used the stock mobile hotspot. I was unable to resolve the issue any other way other than flashing back fresh to stock, rerooting, and reinstalling all my apps. Now everything seems to be working, and I think it may have resolved the occasional hesitations too - been listening a couple days and it hasn't been happening like it was before. Anyway, I went ahead and posted about the link between mobile hotspot and my issues with Pandora and Spotify here:

I seem to have been bitten by whatever it is that's causing Note 8s to freeze. In my case, it seems to freeze when idle - case closed, always-on display showing a clock. Sometimes the digital clock - just stopped; the last time, the analog clock with the second hand ticking, but an otherwise unresponsive phone.
It seems like this is happening to other people, in a variety of other applications - and the only advice anybody is giving is to see what happens in safe mode, then uninstall applications one-by-one. All of which seems rather time-consuming, and counter-intuitive -- if a single App is freezing the system, that suggests on o/s or hardware issue -- the o/s should be isolating the rest of the system from app misbehavior.
Which leads me to wonder how one might track down what's actually going on. If this were one of our servers, I'd crank up logging and look at crash logs. But... those options don't seem to be available without rooting the phone. (Why does Google insist on making syslogs unreadable by normal users - that puts a big crimp in the ability to do any kind of real trouble diagnosis.)
Any suggestions on how to do crash analysis? Any tools that someone can recommend?
Any insight on the matter?
I have not had this problem, so I would not know how to tackle all down to pinpoint the exact culprit, but I would start by controling what apps I dont want to run in background, in maintenance>battery>always sleeping, I put all the apps I dont need to be in always running state, I would also try to unistall or freeze apps I installed just before the problem began, if you have bk disabler this is a rather easy process, as you can batch-disable/enable apps, in the end it is a trial-error exercise
You can use logcat extreme, Catlog or somthing similiar from playstore. But you need some knowless to see wat happend and root. Perhaps you can pull the log file without root to your computer with ADB.
Sounds like impending motherboard failure. My wife's S7 Edge started doing the same thing then one day it just wouldn't start up at all.
Common thing for Samsung phones unfortunately .... and if you're out of warranty they won't repair without a charge.
I've seen this problem all over the internet for quite a few years on many different models of phones and Android. I have it happening on both my 6P and Note 9, figured I'd post here since it's the newer device.
It's mainly happening with Greenify and App Volume Control Pro. I already did all the fixes I've found online, such as making sure the apps are not being optimized by battery optimization settings, and whitelisting them in any where else that might be causing them to be disabled. The only thing I've not done is lock the apps in the recent apps viewer from being closed when you tap close all because it shouldn't matter anyways, I don't leave them open (truthfully I rarely open the actual apps anyways). They don't need to be left open to do their things, that's what persistent notifications are for, to make sure they keep running in the background. Now that I notice though, Greenify does not have a persistent notification on the Note for some reason. I checked all settings, it's not blocked or hidden anywhere. IDK. And AVCP doesn't have one on either device, don't think it ever has for as long as I've been using it. Can only lock apps in the recent list on the Note anyways afaik. (But this issue isn't happening to anything else under accessibility access settings)
I don't use programs like CCleaner or anything, the only thing similar I have on the devices is Samsung's Device Maintenance app, but that obviously is only on the Note so I don't see how it's the cause since it's happening in the 6P as well.
Both phones are running Oreo 8.1. The only thing not stock is that I have elementalx and TWRP installed on the 6P, otherwise it's the stock ROM and whatnot, no root.
This problem happens what I will say is randomly, because it can happen after rebooting the phone or after waking it up. Whether that seems to be 10 minutes or 10 hours doesn't seem to matter. Checking my accessibility has just become habit. The way I first found this was happening was because AVCP makes a toast message when I open an app that I have it set to change the volume for, like a game. The messages were not popping up so I looked into things a bit more when it kept happening.
Anyone have any suggestions other than what's been said in the past?
Same Problem, my device : Vivo Nex S 8/128gb Android Oreo 8.1 no stock rom it has Funtouch OS and no solution for the Bug/Issue.
I donĀ“t know what keeps accessibility resetting several times a day. very annoying!
The knowledge in your article is very useful, thank you
I'm sure its something everyone has experienced, they hear their phone go off and check and nothing is there.
It happens to me every now and then, but It feels like its happening more frequently. Today I left my phone in another room and herd it go off twice but when I went to go check it was cleared. I know I herd it for sure, it was my Metal Gear ! Sound as well as my Ring Doorbell Sound.
Is there some kind of Notification Logger? Even if they are cleared.
To be honest, I have never had any issue as you describe
I had something similar, but some notifications would disappear after about 5 minutes or so. I had to turn off app power monitor in order for my notifications to stay. Although, I never had an issue with them disappearing instantly. I know also weather updates can make sounds, so that can also possibly be it. At the time before I found out about the app power monitor problem, I had installed an app called notisave and it would save every notification I would receive. Hope this helps.
I had similar, i downloaded an app called Notification History and it would show them, it was one weird app that did it but i don't recall exactly why or how.
there is also a phone setting that says "show most recent notifications only" make sure that's not on
I once disabled google assist or whatever it's called and it helped. After a few updates I abled it again. Seems some of their updates does this.
