Since the drop of 5.0 is it really better than 4.4.4? What are the pros and cons? I am super happy with my S5 on Kit Kat...is the upgrade to 5.0 worth it ( I am rooted right now ).
Thanks

Well for starters the home button glitch with the google now thing is gone if you were one of the people having that issue. Also you can keep root if you go about upgrading correctly using Odin. It does seem a bit snappier on 5.0 and my battery life seems to have gotten better than it was. Those are of course are my personal observations so far.
the only con I observed is that you have to manually remove the att bloat. other than that it has been snapper and better on battery life for me.
Better battery life and snappier response are what I immediately noticed.
As far as cons, these my be just my personal gripes:
Lock screen music player no longer allows seeking.
Vibrate pattern for receiving a text message is now one long vibration.
The text message preview option now controls both the lock screen and status bar at the same time. I only want the message to be previewed in the status bar and not on the lock screen.
And you can now run a camera app that supports RAW format. Photographers care about that kind of stuff.
Other than that,
Good: Snappy response, fast booting, decent battery life.
Bad: There are one or two apps that do not support Lollipop. Fortunately, there are many alternatives.
Great thanks, looks like I will make the jump.
Is nice having Bluetooth audio work solid now on lollipop with no random cutting out. Battery life and overall speed are great. I recommend root method to allow freezing bloatware.
My only 2 complaints are the white backgrounds in all system apps (a standard lollipop thing), and the current lack of xposed. Other than that, I'm loving it.

The lock screen music player does allow seeking in both the stock music app and Google Music.

Haha, no. There was a slider bar in Kitkat that I could drag to a certain point in a song.

There might be a 3rd party app on Google Play that does that. You gotta look
I strongly disliked the 4.4.4 update, particularly the home button issue with Google now.
My battery life is better on lollipop and the phone is so smooth---probably ART. I did remove my battery for a couple of minutes after updating and then did a cache clear. I haven't had any issues. My brother has an S4 and is having battery issues.

I am running Lollipop. I installed Camera++ from the Play Store. It saves files as PNGs, about 20 MB in size. So yes, Lollipop does support raw format. As far as photographers wanting that, it does depend on the photographer, but most of them do prefer raw format.
It does not actually support true RAW (DNG files), only PNGs. Camera++ specifically states that "This device does not support RAW capture."
PNG's are still compressed, just losslessly unlike a JPEG.

Hey, you are right. Had to download Camera FV-5 Lite to get true DNG format. Lollipop does support RAW, it's just a matter of finding a camera app that works for you.

Maybe it's just the Active then, I just tried FV-5 Lite and it also reports that device does not support RAW.

Hi guys. I'm currently running Dr.ketans ROM, although I don't believe it's ROM related as it's happened on multiple roms. When scrolling or lock screen notificatiins pop up it lags and stutters, or opening apps ect it's not smooth at all. Anyone have any ideas how to stop it or fix it?
Thanks in advance, much appreciated ?
If you are not experiencing the same issues with the stock Samsung OS, then it sounds like an issue with the 3rd party OS.

I want to try that, but I have a **** load of apps and data that I use daily, plus work stuff and I'm not sure if I can recover it all after a reset. Although it's done it with nothing installed, always have 2.5gb ram plus free, and still have 60gb left ( plus 256 SD )
Any suggestions on backing up and restoring after a reset?
Try checking what apps you have enabled in 'accessibility' settings and try disabling them. For me I had major micro stutter through the UI and also in apps as soon as I enabled accessibility for LMT launcher, I disabled it and all was smooth again.

In android 9 stock there is a bug - when you change the wallpaper and lock screen wallpaper, if you swipe down the quick settings while the phone is locked/in the lock screen - it's super choppy.
Edit: I also reported it and on top of that in bug reports with logs. Waited two weeks to receive: "Thanks for your feedback. You SUGGESTION will be reviewed" rofl... great support and automated answers.

Hey guys i have this problem on my note 8 that instagram buttons are visible transparently and if you look hard you can see them on white enough backgrounds or other bright parts.
I have tried uninstalling instagram but this didnt help.
And when i screenshot them they are not visible in the screenshot picture. Its like that the instagram app frame is running transparently on my screen.
I checked my brother's note 8 and it has this problem too. And reseting and flashing the phone dosent help. It was on android 8 and it still exists on android 9 after update.
I wonder how i can fix this problem...

Update: i looked harder and it looks like its not even from the latest instagram app . The logo of instagram that appears transparently on top of the screen is for an older version of instagram.
For one, it's hard to help you, if the problem is not present in a screenshot. Nevertheless, maybe try restarting the system ui or a facfory reset if you haven't already.
It could be burn in....

10/10 this sounds like burn in. You obviously spend too much time on Instagram at full brightness.

even i have the same problem I'm my oneplus 6 for months, of course I've tried reinstalling the app and restarting the phone several times, it still stays and it's getting real annoying.
It's my understanding that the Galaxy Note 9 supports DCI-P3, however I was reading a article earlier today and at the bottom there is a image to test if your device supports DCI-P3, if it does you should see a faint Android Logo in the image, I however did not... What's the deal?
https://www.phonearena.com/news/Goo...l-support-wide-color-gamuts-natively_id116189
I've linked the article above, if anyone could go and try it on their Note 9's and report back that'd be great, it's at the bottom of the article, thanks.
I think you must change the Screen Mode to cinema or something like that in order to see it, but I may be just wrong...

Do you own a Note 9, to try out, mines the same on each display setting
It's based on an app basis right now. The article even says that it only works on the S10 if the image is downloaded. If you force chrome into using the p3 color space it works.
chrome://flags/#force-color-profile

I have just had CPH2305_11_A.18 pushed to my UK X5 Pro with the April security update and now scrolling in the Google play store is unusable, It's a complete stuttery mess!
I've rebooted twice and still the same, It's so bad It's unreal and not been tested.
This has to be to be down to these stupid LTPO displays messing about with the refresh rate constantly and what makes matters worse OPPO do not have any option whatsoever like Samsung to force 120Hz all the time whether it's in the display options or dev options.
Can someone test this out with the new update, It's a total mess for scrolling in the play store now since the update.
How do we report bugs to OPPO?
Weird it seems to be a little smoother now, I still don't think this variable refresh changing is helping to keep things smooth.
Hey, just tested play store. Yes not the smoothest experience. Seems to get confused between down and sideways swipes. It works fine on an actual list of items.
Glad to see the power button can now actually be a power button. They're clearly listening

Yes it wasn't like that when I got the phone it was smooth in the play store and 100% correct it keeps scrolling sideways even though I am not, No Idea what's going on but it seems a right mess to me.
For sure I was definitely missing that feature with the power button and now they have fixed that at least, I guess they take users feedback which is a positive.
hi there,
i use this to force the 120hz all the time, dont know if will help you with your problem.

Hey thanks for that I think someone else suggested that which worked for YouTube but I wonder if this is a newer version and works with Instagram also I'll give it a go thank you!
Updates seem to always have a processing period where the first few hours/days would have issues in lag. Once the update has finished (including adapting to other apps), it works better.

Apparently, it takes time for the 3rd party apps to adapt to the new update. It is especially true when you're in Beta version.
i agree there are micro stutters gitters throughout the ui on new update. like pulling down notification panel also.

That app doesn't work for me Google photos is a slow refresh rate, but if I use the one from the Video it works great.
The stutter like pulling noticificafion bar down has always been there with the Video app even after factory resetting :/
