How do I reset any changes I make to this panel?
"Settings > Apps > ⋮ > Reset app preferences" doesn't work for this.

Check to make sure nothing is set as Device Administrator that's graying it out*.
Setting>Biometrics and security>Other security settings>Device Amin apps
If that's not locking it out another app or setting likely is. Google searches are useful; it can be another Samsung model or OS as the operation, issues and solutions many times tend to be similar. So this is how you can find more solutions for newer Androids.
*My Goggle Play Services disable and stop tabs were grayed out. Until I realized the Find My Device was enabled as a Device Administrator which it automatically does after a reboot.
Disabling it restore the grayed out tabs.
Ha-ha, it had me going for a bit
"Settings > Apps > ⋮ > Reset app preferences" doesn't reset the "Optimize battery usage" back to defaults.
What's the fix for this?

If they're not grayed out simply toggle them off one by one. With Samsung you find occasional miscommunication probably due to technical writers that may not understand what they're writing about. It's funny sometimes.
Worse are hidden double tap to open options and menus. There's a at least one on my 10+ not including the Easter egg and Developer options.

I have about 70 apps with Optimize Battery usage turned OFF.
Then there are about 500 apps with Optimize Battery usage turned ON.
I think I should toggle this off on all 500 or some apps and then see if I this affects performance or notification reception in any way.
Either way, the system will show me if there is an app sucking an egregious amount of power.

I found it best not to use this on my device/OS version (Pie).
As for usage reporting that can be misleading as dependencies may not be reported but be responsible for the excess usage.
Android Services has a huge number of apks under its umbrella; I simply firewall block it as it's rarely needed. Disabling it though will cause issues.
The worst offenders were clearly visible on Karma Firewall's logs which doesn't function on Android 10 or 11.

My 10+ is running fast and stable with good battery life but more importantly it's fulfilling its mission 100%.

Hey guys,
I'm running the Paranoid Android ROM. Since a few days I noticed a battery drop of maybe 70-75% (compared to 5-10% before) in flight mode without touching the phone once for about 9 hours.
A few days ago I took the phone out of my pocket and the screen was on and I "touched around" (notepad was opened, also contacts and my alarm clock). Do any settings in there strike you as a possible battery drainer?
In my battery stats, Android System is shown to be using like 75% percent of the battery. Now it's Google Play Services, for some reason (the play store is not turned on, neither maps, neither any sync option as far as i checked it).
I have WakeLock installed:
1013 1m 53s, x163:
--> AudioMix x163
Phone 1m 42s, x452:
--> RILJ x437
Android System, 1m 24s, x607:
--> Activity Manager Launch x233
--> AlarmManager x253
Those are the most striking. Does anything seem off to you?
Thank you very much in advance, I don't know what to do anymore!

I'm not sure if Wakelock does this automatically, but try manually disabling some selections to do with Play Services. I believe this is quite a common issue.
Try Settings > Privacy > Privacy Guard > Menu(3 dots top right of screen and enable "built in apps") > long press Google Play Services > Turn off Wake Up/Keep Awake if not already.
It may help, hope it does.

Unfortunately, paranoid Android doesnt seem to show the system apps (settings -> system -> "app permissions" (translated)). Under "app permissions" I can choose "keep active" (translated), I guess that's the original "Keep Awake". Under privacy the privacy-guard-option-area is missing, so I guess I found the equivalent menu item.
I'm trying the app WakeLock and over the night I didnt lose one percent of the battery! But I would rather like to have deep sleep without an extra app. How the hell could that happen, anyway...
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
I have tried everything I can find in the settings but apps that are excluded from "lock screen cleanup" are still closed.
I have locked them in the recent apps panel, I allow them to use background data, data saver is disabled, but regardless, the apps are always killed by locking the screen. I thought this aggressive battery behavior was supposed to be fixed in EMUI 5.
I am suffering with the same problem on my P10 where background processes are killed after locking the screen despite having set them not to close the app and its service are killed sometimes when the screen locks. Android 7.0 EMUI 5.1 VTR-L29C432B151
Is there any solution for this? - I use a Zoiper for SIP calls and it is being stopped and I am missing calls
Turning off the close option in Lock screen clean up did not make any difference but, I did see in settings -> Battery -> "Settings Gear" an option to 'Close excessively power-intensive apps' and turned it off - but not tested it long enough to see if it fixes the problem.
----- did not work
Yes, same here - missing notification from Ring doorbell, missing updates from Tile and Life360 and Withings watch not synchronising automatically... Annoying behaviour.
Ok, tried something today and so far apps aren't closing - even after a few hours. Open Settings | Apps and click the settings at the bottom. Tap Special Access | Ignore battery optimisation... Select the apps you want to keep alive by switching to "Allowed".
I also have Battery | Lockscreen Cleanup disabled for all apps and the "Close excessively power-intensive apps" option unchecked.

When I do that I only get a list of a few Apps, the ones I want to keep running are not included - Is there a way to add them to this list?
Tap the arrow to show Allowed or All.
Sorry for the false alarm folks. Overnight all apps were closed again, regardless of the "Ignore policy" setting...

At first I thought it was working, but eventually all the apps that I needed running always were terminated and had to be restarted manually.
This bug is so incredibly annoying, is it by chance fixed in VTR-L29C432B164 - I am getting so fed up with this phone killing services that I rely on to be running all the time - I don't care if they consume more power, I just need them to keep running.
I have the same issue on P10 Lite WAS-LX1AC423B171 this is the latest firmware I could install. Driving me mental!!!!
Hello all,
I notice a strange thing.
I set up my pebble app to be not closed by the mobile when screen off and to not be in battery optimisations.
But, sometimes, the pebble app is still closed by the system.
Any idea or maybe script to avoid this?
Something similar happens with running apps like Strava and Runkeeper. I haven't read any solution yet. I think the power manager is a bit too diligent )-:

I have the same problem with some apps, I found a possible solution online (don't remember where exactly).
The steps are:
> Settings > Battery > Settings (upper right corner, cog icon) > disable "Close excessively power-intensive apps"
Hope this helps.

Thank you mate..
it makes no sense but this seems to be the best working solution at the moment...
These are my current settings for pebble and AdroidWear (got a german device so maybe there are some translation issues)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Settings > Battery > Cog Icon (upper right) > disable "Close excessively power-intensive apps" SOLUTION MAYBE
- Settings > Apps > (another) settings (button middle) > special access > ignore battery optimisations
- Settings > Battery > close when screen off whitelist
- Phone Manager > cleaning > Cog Icon (upper right) > eceptions whitelist
- No power saving activated
All of them are a bit similar but only one seems to take advance of the pebble problem
cheers

how to let apps run in background without automatically close in android pie
It's a little hidden.
Go settings, device maintenance, Battery. Under the estimated runtime click battery consumption button.
In the following list tap on a random app (not screen or something) and then tap on battery optimization. The select on top "All" apps and allow the one you want.
If someone has a faster approach let me know.
My phone language isnt English so the buttons may have slightly different names.

Is developer options enabled? At the bottom there is a setting that can limit background processes.

I believe Bober_is_a_troll meant that you could check whether that option is already enabled for some reason and disable it.
Yes this sounds like you have background services limited to 4. Make sure to check the dev options!
Make sure "background process limit" is set to default.
Attaching the screenshots of two night battery drain.
When,
Wifi off, mobile data off, nfc off, Bluetooth off, always on display off the battery drain is 16% overnight.
When airplane mode is on the battery drain overnight is 3 %.
Not able to point out what is draining the battery.
First 2 screenshots are related to 16% drain.
Next 2 screenshots are related to 3% drain.
Something similiar was reported with M30s ( when I used it ). Seems some Samsung software glitch.
Simply use airplane mode
I feel like after installing the november patch the battery performance has gone down a bit. Also the general performance also seems to have taken a hit in my opinion.
Improve M51 Battery backup do some settings to save more battery life and observe for next 1-2 days, it will give a noticeable difference.
1. Connection>more connections settings> disable
nearby device settings.
2. Location>improve accuracy >disable
A. Wifi scanning
B. Bluetooth scanning.
3. Device care>battery power mode>select "optimised" and "adaptive power saving".
And then click on "app power management >
And enable these 2 options.
A. Adaptive battery
B. Put Unused Apps to Sleep.
4. Long press on each app specially 3rd party app(LIKE FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE) and rarely used apps and also ON "GOOGLE APP" as well, then click on>app info> go to these 3 options below on by one
A. Mobile data> allow background data usage>off
B. Battery >allow background activity >off
C. Notification disable unnecessary notifications like promotional and unnecessary reminder notifications.
5. Go to settings> privacy > permission manager > location, and check which app have accessing your location all the time and if you not using that apps much, then deny access or set as " allowed only while in use"As unnecessary location access by 3rd party app causing battery drain.
6. Go to settings > Google > on device sharing> check which 3rd party apps present there for e.g. if you use paytm, paytm will shared data to show recommendation and suggestion which also cause battery drain
7. Go to settings > account and backup> account > check which app syncing automatically there, and if any app which not necessary to auto sync then click on it and "disable sync"
8. Go to settings >apps>search "weather">click on settings icon right side > change "auto refresh" settings as per your requirements and disable some unnecessary reminder. ( due to auto refresh it continuously consuming battery)
9. If you use Facebook frequently then disable "auto And if you are mostly uses mobile, on wifi connection then also disable "auto play videos" in YouTube.
10. Google >click on 3dot at right top corner>usage and diagnostics off this option.
