Redmi Note 9 3GB 64GB - factory reset missing items? - Redmi Note 9 Questions & Answers

I have the UK model of this, running MIUI 12.0.3 with security patch 2020-07-01 (as it came from factory).
So I decided to have a quick mess about with the phone and eventually decided to do a factory reset.
Once back in, I noticed the following:
- Google app drawer is missing a few apps
- 'More app' drawer is missing an app (now 5 not the 6 - can't remember which)
- Completely missing the Games drawer
Other missing apps include:
- Mi Store
- Mi Community
- Opera browser
I am not particularly fussed, but more intrigued as I thought it'll reset back to the state I'd originally received it in from Xiaomi.
Is this normal? Has anyone else noticed?
I assume I could just perform an update, but would just like to know why this has happened and as mentioned above, I was expecting it to reset back to its original state?

Phone stuck on Preparing for Setup

Device: Xiaomi Mi A2 Android One
ROM: Stock Google Android 9 Pie
I recently had to do a hard factory reset on my Android One Xiaomi Mi A2 phone. After reset a particular notification keeps insistently reappearing - it is from two different apks that are part of the stock ROM/OS - Android Setup (with a circular arrow timer icon) and Android setup (with a gear icon). Both the apks have the same name but different icons and listed separately. They can be found by clicking on Settings>Apps & notifications>See all apps>Show system. I am currently on Android 9 Pie.
The notification from Android Setup (with a circular arrow timer icon) gives two options - connect to WiFi or Use Mobile Data. On choosing either option it takes me to a white screen that has a gear symbol/icon on top and right below it it says PREPARING FOR SETUP... and below that it says YOU CAN FINISH SETTING UP YOUR Mi A2 SOON... At the bottom of this screen it has a rectangular Start button but that remains greyed out. I waited two days on this but it remained same. I did hard reset numerous times and re-setup phone but issue would not go away.
So then I did a reset from Recovery/Hard Reset again. Then I did the following in the order I mention - Set-up the phone as new / Chose Do not back up data or apps from previous save - Unchecked all apps that I had earlier that Google was trying to reinstall automatically after reset as per backed up info of my device on Google servers. Once phone was on homescreen I went to PlayStore and updated Google Play Services first thing. Then I installed all available updates. Then manually reinstalled all apps I earlier had on my phone one by one. After all this, notification from Android Setup (with a circular arrow timer icon) reappeared and same issue - whether I choose Use Mobile Data or connect to wifi it would just take me to PREPARING FOR SETUP screen and stays there with Start button greyed out and notification bar indicators showing no data being transmitted up or down.
So then I went into settings, force stopped it (Android Setup with a circular arrow timer icon) and deleted cache and data for this apk. Left it overnight. In the morning I see that there is the same notification but this time from the Android Setup (with a gear icon) and the only option is connect to wifi. Upon connecting to wifi it takes me to the same PREPARING FOR SETUP screen with start button greyed out and does nothing. So this time I went into settings and forced stopped this (Android Setup with a gear icon) system apk and deleted its cache. Delete data option is greyed out, although it shows some data is stored. This makes notification go away but once I reboot phone it reappears.
I have done research online and many others have faced this exact same issue, exact same PREPARING FOR SETUP screen. But many different handsets, many different roms. Most common solution offered online was to delete cache and data for Google play Services and PlayStore. That was of no help in my case. Mine is a completely stock Android One 9 Pie rom, strictly no mods whatsoever. I doubt this has anything to do with the phone manufacturer, because they would not mess with those system apks I have mentioned earlier. It seems connected to Play Services apk and backed up phone settings/information on Google servers. Might have something to do with RESTORE DATA AND SETTINGS WHEN APP IS REINSTALLED setting option in the Android OS. I attempted to delete backed-up device settings, passwords and app info backed up on Google's servers, and then did a reset again and set up as new, but problem is still there.
Any help/info/etc. you can provide about this would be much appreciated ...
(Attached screenshot is from a Pixel device but I am facing exact same issue, hence using this screenshot)-

No its not Beta Pie. Its a full public release, updated through OTA.
I have seen this problem mentioned in Nexus, Pixel and Oneplus6 Forums as well (among others) so not sure if it is specific to Pie ...
SOLVED
After all the steps mentioned in original post, heres what I did - Went into my Google account and removed phone from devices listed under my account. Reset phone. Set up - as new (chose do not restore backed up setttings/apps/data)(did this setup with wifi). Towards end of setup Google still tries to reinstall some apps that were installed before, so tapped on REVIEW APPS and unchecked all checked apps. Three apps were still listed with no option to unselect. Continued. Got to home screen. Problem notification appeared. This time tapped on USE MOBILE DATA option on the notification. It did not go to problematic PREPARING FOR SETUP screen but went to another screen that said installing 3 apps (the 3 apps that could not be unchecked as I mentioned earlier), and after a few minutes of seeming to be stuck, just completed on its own!
PROBLEM SOLVED. Mentioning everything done in detail in the hopes that it will help someone else. Cheers!!:good:

Realise this thread is a little old, but I had the same problem and did not want to reset the phone again. I am using LineageOS 16.0
Most of the solutions appear to be little more than try again.
I found the following work:
When the option comes up, go back ("<") key from the screen that shows a grey "Start" button. This should give the WiFi options. Click the WiFi which is connected, and then click Advanced. Change Metered from Automatic to Unmetered. Click finish / ok as necessary and it should then work.
I can only assume that Android is detecting the connection is metered therefore refusing to do the final setup. Hope that this helps someone!
Don't forget to set the connection back to automatic / metered if applicable!
What i did and helped is that i deleted the Google account, restarted the phone and the Update went through.
what worked for me - i had to install gapps first and then just factory reset in twrp - a20 205w - running lineageos16

Question Setup Mi 11 Ultra

I got my phone earlier today from Giztop and reset the phone without thinking. It doesn't have the Google apps anymore. Is there as easy way to reset as a brand new phone from Giztop being setup for the US?
Try checking this out

Don't bother installing gapps. It will never function normal. Best thing to do is BE PATIENT, unlock bootloader and flash EU or global rom.It will take 7 days but it will worth it. Chinese rom with externally installed gapps is not quite stable and it has too many clashes with chinese versions of the same program such as Get Apps Store which basically reminds you that it is there every time.

Chinese firmware is best one out there. I need google services as much as you do. After unboxing you already have basic google services (example to add Google account). All you have to do is download Play Store.
Chinese apps ? So easy to remove them (of course without root).
You saying "Get Apps Store" is not is not useful? Only from there you can update your system apps ! (Example: today I received update on "rear display". Many fixes in this update actually)
After all I realized I have everything I need. Phone with minimum Google background processing, but with full support of anything i want. 3-4% battery drain overnight lmao...is very respectful. (Stock Root it/Adaway)
And yes enjoy your EU rom with micro lags in open/close apps and luck of 120Hz in many places.
Global is old firmware and loaded with google bloatware in a system.

There is no lag if you disable all animations in developer options
Just touch it and it's open immediately

I did everything to stay on stock Chinese Rom. Initially the phone came opened and some staff installed already. I prefer a fresh install. I did exactly what the first post says. Factory reset and boom no play store. I found every program I need out there in the wild apk services. They worked fine but Some had issues with update some was behaving strange like no notification etc. Stock Chinese ROM is great but I sometimes use French characters and built in Roboto Font was not looking pleasant. I did non-root debloating too but still it wasn't great. I accidentally removed some programs that was important for keyboard for some reason. Furthermore, I even use Chinese Rom now but it is EU Rom with weekly beta updates. It has the latest firmware, miui 12.6. For example you received the latest rear display update and its news recently but rear display was updated here already. I can use rear display to shot vlog videos or slow motion videos etc. The charger takes 30 mins to bring the phone battery to an acceptable level. So, even if it drains overnight, it takes 30 mins to have your phone juiced up. Another point to mention is sim card and some payment methods are designed for China in Chinese Rom and you can't select some settings directly. There are workarounds for sure but why bother when there is an easily customisable settings in EU ROM.
Appreciate all the info!!! Think I am all set now. Trying to get the last few things setup. Moving from a OnePlus 7T Pro McClaren. First impression of this is amazing.

How to remove this notification from The settings menu?

I'm using package disabler pro to block updates and update notifications. But I forgot to block the other update thing there are 2 you need to block.so I'm stuck with this any way to remove this without factory reset?I did try going to apps /system apps then find both the software updates and clearing cash and data but its didnt remove this blue notification
Im on pie one ui 9 still and love it so I gave up and did a factory reset, and I wont update,
anyway there is a weird problem after I factory reset the phone as soon as your connect wifi and sign into the play store the phone downloads all the stock apps for pie like calendar, calculator Samsung browser etc but this time instead of the normal Samsung calculator v10 the green icon that comes pre installed with pie it
installed the really old calculator from oreo v6 blue icon ,so I'm on pie with the oreo calculator ,I factory reset again to see if the next time it will install the correct calculator from pie like it use to do,but again its installing the calculator from oreo.
is this some sort of bug with the Samsung servers?sure I can update the calculator in the Samsung store but it did seem odd that for some reason the sammy servers are bugging out and installing the calculator app from oreo.when it would always in the past install the correct pie calculator after a factory reset

Question Samsung One UI 4 Beta 1 Reviews (Snapdragon)

What kind of bugs have you all been experiencing? The only thing I've noticed so far was that when you swipe down the notification panel, the toggles aren't there sometimes (for me)
I was wondering if i need to go back to stock 3.1 from UI 4 beta and if i use home csc , will my all data remains safe? I don't want to clean wipe. TIA.
A few things aren't working for me:
OfferUp will not log in: i think this is a Android 12 thing. OfferUp isn't ready for Android 12. If you really depend on this app then i don't recommend upgrading.
DJI Fly App will not start, again I don't think DJI is ready for Android 12. So if you use your phone with the RC then i wouldn't recommend upgrading.
I factory reset my s21 ultra (snapdragon) while on One UI 4.0 beta and now I don't see Good Guardian on the Samsung Galaxy store. I downloaded via Google search and side loaded it but it doesn't seem to work.

Question Is it safe to flash Indonesian ROM over a Global ROM?

Hello everybody.
I'm sorry if this was asked many times. I have a Redmi Note 11 (spes) model 2201117TL running a Global MIUI ROM on Android 11. Just like many users, I hate Google Dialer and Messages, especially after using MIUI 9 with MI Dialer (with call recording) and Messages for almost 5 years on a Redmi 4X. So I want to install the Indonesian ROM, the only for my device with those apps. I downloaded the ROM "spesn_id_global_images_V13.0.7.0.RGKIDXM_20220822.0000.00_11.0_global". I don't like the Dynamic Color and some apps I use fail with Android 12 so I downloaded the last one released with Android 11. And there's no ROM without NFC for this device. I already unlocked my bootloader but I'll have to relock it in order to get Play Protect certification. The Xiaomi.eu ROM looks nice but don't want to mess around with custom recoveries and all that, I'd rather stay with official software.
So my questions:
- Is is safe to use MiFlash to flash the Indonesian version on this device?? I've seen many videos were they do it on different devices. I want to know experiences on this one.
- Is there a problem if I install a ROM with NFC on a device without NFC?
- When MIUI starts I got a message that I have to activate the device, logging into my MI account because the device it's associated with it. I guess that's because of the SIM card in it. There's no problem with that flashing the Global ROM but should I take it off now for the Indonesian??
- Is there any serious bugs on the Indonesian ROM?? I want to flash a version with Android 11 but still I'd like to know if anyone had any serious problem.
Thanks.
I did it and the flashing went fine. However, even though I locked the bootloader I lost the Play Protect Certification. I fixed it quickly following this tutorial: https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-fix-play-protect-certification-error-5405/
Now I logged in into my Google account. I'll continue installing my apps and testing the ROM. I'll keep you guys posted.
Here's an update.
Some cons:
- Google didn't restore some of my apps's data after installing them, it worked before. I had to to it manually.
- I had trouble logging into Google from inside other apps, security from Google said I did it too many times. I just tried again later.
- I noticed the back of the cellphone getting a little warm for a while, it didn't happen with the Global ROM. The Battery section said the temperature was "Medium".
- There's some flickering on the keyboard in some apps like Color Note and WhatsApp. It's somehow related to the fact that this ROM has Mint Keyboard installed as a default (nobody ever mentioned that). If I select that keyboard, the flickering it's gone, I'd use it if I could add other languages besides English (I don't speak any of the other indian gibberish it supports). But if I select Gboard, no matter if I disable Mint Keyboard or not, the flickering it's sometimes there.
- The worst: I have the feeling that this ROM drains the battery faster than the Global ROM. I have no way to know for sure, it's just a perception. I guees it could be related to the fact that I use a Xiaomi Backup to restore my apps and settings, that backup was made on a Global ROM, that process messed some things up. Or maybe the fact I couldn't connect to Google from the beggining. I'll try later a factory reset and do everything manually again. Last thing to try: update MIUI to Android 12, it worked pretty bad on a Global ROM, maybe it's better on this one.
Some pros:
- MIUI Dialer and call recording work like a charm. The quality of the recording beats the sh*t out of the one of any third app (I tried several on the Global ROM)
- MI Calendar works perfectly, that's another simple and useful Xiaomi app missing from the Global ROM (Google Calendar is not that bad though).
- Bluetooth range seems improved: I can walk away from my cellphone and unlike before, I don't start losing signal on my earbuds right away. This is very useful to me, I love listening to music while I do things but I can't always bring the phone with me.
This is all for now.
Thank you keep updated this thread.
