Got my 21 ultra four days ago. Came from a Note 9. I have a Motorola headset on most of the day. Never had an issue with a disconnect with my Note 9.
About maybe every 1-2 hours I get a notification through my headset that the Bluetooth has disconnected and reconnects fairly quick after. That happens when I'm not on a call.
When I'm on a call it doesn't alert me but I can tell I lose the person I am talking with for about 5-10 seconds.
I have done all the clearing cache, resetting network, etc. Was hoping someone might be able to give me any tips.

Have you tried with another Bluetooth headset? It will help diagnose whether the issue is with your phone or the headset.
I have been using my S21 Ultra with the following bluetooth devices and not lost connection unintentionally even once since I've owned the device (across all software updates so far)
1. Galaxy Buds Live (use them for hands free calls all day)
2. Anker Soundcore 2 BT Stereo speakers (for music)
3. Mi Outdoor BT Speaker (podcasts at night before sleep)
4. OnePlus Wireless Z BT neckband earbuds (for running and other exercise)
5. QCY Airdots TWS earpbuds (general purpose audio)
6. House of Marley BT speakers (Hi-Fi audio streaming)
Please test the connection with another BT headset and check if the problem persists.

Also I don't see Save Battery in developer options.

That won't do it. It's still active; those buckets represent the ones you can alter and even those may not "take".
You toggled on adaptive battery etc in Device Care*. The only thing that should be enabled is fast charging.
The Power Mode should be Optimized or higher.
Clear the system cache as well.
Hopefully this will cure the cutouts... it worked for me and stopped a lot of other erratic behaviors. Battery Optimization etc was always a dog. Android does fine by itself. However some apps like Brave need to be closed out or they run in the background wasting power.
If you're battery life is bad or gets worse let me know.
*I'm running Pie on a 10+ but they should be similar.
Sometimes apps will interfere with Bluetooth operation and clearing the cache can solve the problem. For Android phones, go to Settings > System > Advanced> Reset Options > Reset Wi-fi, Mobile and Bluetooth

After all power management is disabled clearing the system cache on the boot menu advisable and maybe a network reset.

Edit: Looks like more than one user is having this issue. So could be an issue with the phone itself instead of the headset. I haven't had a similar experience so I don' think I'll be able to add anything of value here. Hence removed my previous suggestions.
It happens to me very often... I use Buds+ and Buds pro. I am connect over bluetooth to my laptop, galaxy watch 3 and buds. During phone call it disconnect and I must connect on py phone again. Mostly I see it just change output to phone. And I have to change phone call output to buds
It is very frustrating. Cos It happens during call. And I have to manualy change to buds during call... Do I have any weird option enabled so buds diconect durring call?

Maybe because of so many bt devices, try using one or two at first.
Make sure Wearables is up to date. Samsung sometimes pusher out updates frequently, it may fix it. Lol, I waited almost a year for the Buds÷ sound fix
Network reset. Then add only what is needed.
Clear system cache.
Hard reboot.

Although my car shows my phone connected when I drive, while I am wearing the gear, any calls are routed through the gear.
I know it has to do with probably only one device can output the calls, but is there any way to go around this ?
Is there a quick way to disconnect the gear from the phone while in the car ? it's just that it's a lot of steps to get into the settings....
Was looking for something simpler and quicker.
Although it would be cool not to actually have it disconnected as I still like to see the notifications without pulling out the phone.
Anyone else with this issue ? Any suggestions...?
Only other thing I thought of is to find a software that would put me a toggle on the screen maybe ?
Thanks
No problems here. The phone call well get route through whatever device accepts the call

Same here.
Car has inbuilt blue tooth, if I accept via the car, it routes through the car.
I also have no problems. The interesting thing is, I can initiate a call on the gear, and it stays there for about one second, then transfers to the car speakers. Which is where I want it anyway.
I have the same issue on Tmobile S4 4.2, I believe the 4.3 update has different profiles that allow this. Right now I'm stuck to connecting to the Gear or a Headset, I have to choose between the two since they both connect as 'phone audio' under BT settings. Once 4.3 is release in 2018 (LOL) it should be resolved.
I have a similar problem...or worst
My camaro '12, uses 2 BT profiles. One for media audio and the other for phone audio, since the gear also connects to my GS4 using phone audio, my cámaro's infotainment screen frozes until I disconnect the GG to my GS4 or the cars phone audio to my GS4.
I can't even chance the damn A/C temp or speed when that happens. Hahaha

I have connected my LG G3 to the galaxy gear Samsung gear 1.
Everything is fine except that I cannot use both gear and bluetooth connection in my car, whereas, if I am using my Note 3 there is no problem in connecting both.
Wondering if there is a solution so that I can connect both bluetooth and gear to my 3G in my car
I have the same issues. I have a lg g3, galaxy gear 1, and bt headset. If the gear is connected, calls go to gear and not the headset.
When I had my galaxy s5 all was fine.
Anyone have ideas?

I don't have a g3 (yet) to test but I think using SQL lite editor and modifying settings.db under the settings app, you can adjust bluetooth priorities. By default priorities are all set to 100. I think if you changed the gear's priority to 99, it may work.

Ok, I'll try to break it down. Hopefully, it works:
1) Get SQLite editor (sounds like you already have it)
2) Scroll down to "Settings Storage" and then select "settings.db"
3) Select global
4) find the entry "bluetooth_headset_priority_<MAC address of Gear>" and select it
5) Click menu > edit record
6) Change the priority from 100 to 99 and save
Hopefully, it helps. Let us know.

Not sure. I would try setting both the gear and your headset to a positive integer and make sure the headset is set higher and see what happens. Not sure if this will work or not but it can't hurt to try.

I've setup Trigger profiles to do exactly this back when I was on 4.1.2 since multiple devices can't be connected at the same time on that version. From Android 4.3+, multiple BT devices can be connected at the same time and I thought it was at the OS level where the system would use whichever devices answers the call...... I guess it is a function of the Samsung dialer after all.
Dear all
First post so here goes. Had my 7 plus exactly a week.
Specs as follows:
Model TA 1055
Android 8.1
1st June 2018 Security patch
unrooted but themed with Substratum (Swift Black)
So my phone won't detect either my amazon bluetooth adapter plugged into my bedside radio or my creative bluetooth speakers. My lenovo p2 can find these without issue. Strangely it can connect to my PC's bluetooth which gives a passcode. I've cleared bluetooth cache and still not fixed. Anybody else had bluetooth issues?
TA-1046 here with June patch and I have bluetooth issues as well.
I was not able to connect my Gear S3 smartwatch to my phone, untill I decided to turn off BT and turn it back on again.
Suddenly it worked.
Then I was not able to update my S3 apps from the Samsung App Store, untill I stopped BT and turned it back on again.
It seems to me that there is a BT issues in the June patch.
How it was before, I don't know as I received this phone 2 days ago and it updated automatically to June update.
Sorry for adding more negativity to this forum than assistance.
I am also having similar problem with connecting to my LG sound bar. It picks it up when i search, saves it but does not connect.
BT issues
Well unfortunately I have to say same. BT even can't see any device during scanning. Other devices each between other works. Other devices also see N7+ and can pair with it. Seems like scanning doesn't work for me on N7+.
I tried reset networks, clear BT cache couple of times - didn't changed anything. Still wanna avoid factory reset.
No mods, no root.
I'm bit surprised (in the sad way) by this device :-/
In the meantime BT has worked quite well for a couple of days, untill today.....
I could connect to my Gear S3, but not much later I notice new notifications on my phone but no popup on my watch.
It turned out that BT was not connected anymore.
Manually connected and the same process happens again.
Untill I rebooted my phone. From then on, my watch stayed paired with the phone and didn't loose connection.

Try resetting your Gear S3 to factory defaults and remove BT settings on phone.
(also clear BT cache).
I had to set up my watch a couple of times.
Still it disconnects sometimes, but then a normal reboot of the phone helps to get the connection back.
Submitted this to another thread, but I'll copy paste it here.
I recently got Bluetooth headphones and found that playback easily got choppy if a part of my body was in between my headset and phone, or if the phone got locked. I did find a solution to this however, and not sure if it would work for everyone that has Bluetooth issues as well.
It seems as if Bluetooth has its own app on Android 8.1, and due to this, it's getting managed by Doze or the automatic app power saving that's on by default. I switched off battery management using the following steps:
1. Go to Settings
2. Apps & Notifications
3. Tap on the option that says "See all x apps"
4. Tap on the top right hand 3 dots.
5. Tap on "Show system"
6. Scroll down until you find "Bluetooth" and tap on it
7. Tap on Battery
8. Tap on Battery Optimisation
9. Press the blue dropdown that should say "Not optimised", and select "All apps"
10. Find Bluetooth again, tap on it.
11. Optimise should be ticked, tick "Don't Optimise" instead, then press Done.
My Nokia 7 plus cannot find other Bluetooth devices.
I cleared cache, went to battery optimisation settings, ticked on the Bluetooth icon and selected *"Don't optimise"* turned on my Bluetooth to search for other devices and still this same problem persists. Can't find other Bluetooth devices including phones, tablets and headsets. I'm really confused on why there should be such a problem. I don't want to Reset to Factory settings. But I'm not being left with any other choice. I'm so upset that I have to spend so much and yet other cheap phones can search for other devices so easily.. please I need a solution immediately
Hi all,
The same headphones which used to work perfectly with my Huawei Honor 8 stutter upon Bluetooth music playback to the point of unusuable. It's the kind of stuttering like there's a poor connection/bandwidth issue between the phone and the headphones. It's similar to what happened on my Huawei Honor 8 when I was washing my car and ducked my head under the car
Tried multiple apps:
Google Play Music
Youtube
Youtube Music
Amazon Music
EDIT: ONLY my Philips SHB4405 headphones suffer! Tried different bluetooth devices to eliminate the headphones, same stutter.
Tried setting the special access to the battery use: "Settings", search for "Special access". Select "Ignore battery optimisation". Make sure "All apps" are shown. Select the app you want and set it to "Allow (May drain your battery more quickly)"
Tried setting Battery settings of the app to manage manually then Auto launch, Secondary Launch and Run in background all toggled on.
Any ideas please?
It is likely their hyper-aggressive battery management software, which there seems to be no way to remove.
You may try to go to development mode menu and play around with the BT audio bit rates and codexs. Or, just take it back to the shop and exchange it for a new one.

funnily enough I did have an update apply yesterday but it didn't fix this behaviour. EMUI 8.1.0.159 (C782)
I have an update to my OP though. The bluetooth music streaming actually works perfectly on every bluetooth audio device I have (Radio, AV receiver, 2 x car stereos, bluetooth speaker, another set of bluetooth headphones) so I can only assume that the Huawei P20 Pro is incompatible with the Philips SHB4405 headphones! sounds bizarre to say it but that's my experience!
Bluetooth codec fix
I fixed this on my Honor 8x by changing the bluetooth codec used in the developer settings.
1. Enable developer settings
2. Change the "Bluetooth audio codec" setting value from "aptX" to "SBC"
Hi mate, check the supported codecs on your headsets. Enable developer options in Settings and force SBC codec.
Has the latest 9.0 solved your Bluetooth problem?

Hi Guys,
I have a P20 and I love it, but had the BT audio stuttering problem in my car for a while - the radio is fine, my gf's Samsung can stream to it no problem.
9.0 didn't help, the problem persisted until... I changed the display sleep time to 10 minutes and forgot about it.
So after some testing I can 100% confirm that the stuttering happends only when the screen is off.
When I drive with the screen on, the BT music streaming works great. When I turn off the display - within minutes the stuttering starts. Turn on screen again - no stuttering.
Test it.
Happens on my Mate 10 only when screen is off. I already removed PowerGenius and had set battery optimization off to my music app. This is so annoyingly frustrating. Any solution yet?
I think I have the same or a similar issue using Beoplay H9. Changing codec to manual SBC or AAC does not work, but SBC is noticably better.
Closing all open apps or restarting bluetooth often works, but restarting the phone completely alleviates the problem. After an hour or two the problem appears again.

Can you check if the headphones are paired to anything else in the vicinity? Like a tablet or other phone? May be the problem..
Also the codecs in use make a difference too, can be altered in Dev options.
I had problems with calls with a very expensive pair of plantronics on my phone, the v6200's £275 when they were released lol.
Base didn't make a difference either Oreo all the way up to 9.1, in fact it was better on Oreo.
Doesn't affect everyone in the same way.
Paired to stuff yes but I can take them out of the question by wandering away from any of the devices for a 1-2 mile walk
Still experiencing this same problem on EMUI 9.1, even after disabling battery optimization in all music apps.
This worked for me - turn off 'Always on Display'
I was getting brief but regular strutters with my bluetooth headphones (Marley Positive Vibrations 2) but only when the p20 pro was put in my jeans pocket, so walking the dog while listening to Spotify was a pretty glitchy affair. At first I assumed being inside the pocket was degrading the bluetooth signal strength but I recently noticed that whenever the phone sensed it was inside my pocket (or in a pitch black room) it was turning off 'Always on Display' to save battery, so wondered if this was affecting the bluetooth audio connection (especially as people already suggested it was related to either display settings or battery saving options).
I disabled 'Always on Display' and this stuttering problem has been completely resolved for me (EMUI 9.1).
@theToots
Where to find the option 'Always on Display'
edit:
Found
I have this same Issue using a P20 Pro and Sennheiser HD 4.50 btnc.
This annoying audio stuttering started happening only after a software update (EMUI 9.1.0.361).
A fix that works for me is to turn my location off.
Received PIE OTA today. Everything seemed great until I got in the car to drove home from work. Phone connects to Bluetooth fine and stayed connected until I tried making a call. When I dialed a contact it started ringing properly over the car speakers then dropped and the status stopped showing on the car display. Phone still said it was connected to BT and phone audio routing through the Handsfreelink. I couldn't hear anything. Switching the call audio to Phone I was able to hear the person through the phone handset.
I've tried repairing to the car and restarting phone. I did not try calling through Android Auto I interface on the car, but will try that tomorrow.
Looking for similar issues I saw some hit for the Pixel devices, but it was on older beta builds of PIE.
Anyone else have this issue?
I don't have your exact issue, but my Bluetooth keeps disconnecting on my car. It worked fine on 8.1.
I also have the problem through the Android Auto app. I cleared cache from recovery and still have a problem. This makes Android 9 unusable for me...

Are you using a Galaxy watch? I used to have the same problem until I reset my watch then everything worked fine.
I would recommend you find out what's disconnecting the bluetooth through bluetooth > Advanced > Bluetooth control history and see if there are any apps turning off the bluetooth. Galaxy Wearable was constantly disconnecting my bluetooth when it was disconnected to my car's bluetooh and that's why I reset it.
I hope that helps.

I recommend you delete your phone 's profile from your car and reestablish it all over again after your reset your phone's bluetooth as well through settings > general management > reset > reset network settings. Bear in mind that this will erase all your bluetooth connections as well as wifi data.
Good luck.

I have already tried deleting my profile in car and clearing Bluetooth and network connections. I dont have a smart watch. The only thing left is a factory reset. But I've been reading the same problem has been reported on Pixel devices on Android Pie. I didnt see a fix though.
I have issues while playing music on Spotify and black player ex via Bluetooth on my pioneer deck in my car. The music will stop playing for like a second or two then resume. Reverting to 8.1 fixed it. I've tried a clean wipe as well.

Reverting will only fix it until the OTA installs it again though.
Wow. Thats definitely a deal breaker for me..Kind of glad Sprint hasnt received it yet! hope they fix it as I know how annoying that is.
Car BT disconnects after 5 min
EzEddie said:
Received PIE OTA today. Everything seemed great until I got in the car to drove home from work. Phone connects to Bluetooth fine and stayed connected until I tried making a call. When I dialed a contact it started ringing properly over the car speakers then dropped and the status stopped showing on the car display. Phone still said it was connected to BT and phone audio routing through the Handsfreelink. I couldn't hear anything. Switching the call audio to Phone I was able to hear the person through the phone handset.
I've tried repairing to the car and restarting the phone. I did not try calling through Android Auto I interface on the car, but will try that tomorrow.
Looking for similar issues I saw some hit for the Pixel devices, but it was on older beta builds of PIE.
Anyone else have this issue?

I have the same issue, Phone will connect fine initially but after like 5 minutes of playing music or calling Car will lose connection all together to BT in Phone (phone says it still connected for a couple of secs then drops as well) If I leave alone BT will connect again after a minute or so then disconnect again in a couple of minutes
I'm using Android Auto on my phone (My car does not have AAuto so use the phone as a display) so everytime BT connects disconnects AA launches
Tried resetting BT cache and data and repairing but everytime same thing.

Are you using Android Auto on the phone by any chance?
What brand Car do you have?
I tested today after some BT resets and in the morning everything stayed connected so I thought it was fixed but in the drive home it disconnected 3 times while in a call !
I can confirm that this is happening specifically for me as well. Long time lurker/reader.
I'm confident I've isolated the issue to the Pie update. My Google search bringing me back 180° to here supports that.
I have that sinking feeling that this is gonna be an ongoing bugaboo. Let's hope I'm wrong!
I'm not an Android Auto user. The accompanied "drop signal" notification from my Galaxy Watch losing BT signal to phone to every few minutes is slowly eroding my sanity. Most recently on official AT&T CSAA clean wipe.
Cheers!
What's the current version of Pie on our Note 9 at the moment? From the looks of all these posts describing issues, I may have to permanently remain on Oreo for the entire life of this phone.
Hi, Annon here. Here's a real quirk... After receiving the update on my phone, I was happily driving home with music streaming through spotify via bluetooth and my husband decides to call me. The phone rings, I try to answer from the steering wheel and instead of answering the phone, it looks like it's connected the the car is still ringing the phone at me while not connecting to any voice. On my husband's end, he gets this really loud and annoying screeching sound so obviously he hangs up. But it doesn't stop there. Even though the call is disconnected (not that it ever stopped ringing on my end or connected), the phone continues to ring through my car UNTIL I GET HOME AND TURN OFF MY VEHICLE. Even after I turn off blue tooth and the radio console. It was the cherry on top of my crap day.
PIE in the face
I have exactly the same problem with a note9 connecting to a Discovery Sport. The phone connects for a short while then drops completely, then reconnects automatically and cycles like this for 3 or so times then seems to stabilise.
If I am on a call its a total nightmare, thinking of trying to revert to Oreo.
Anybody have a fix yet besides revert to oreo firmware?
Note 9 At&T on latest pie. Can confirm Bluetooth disappears from memory. Happens to car, headset, watch and have to re-pair over and over. Pretty frustrating. Was working perfectly prior to pie.

I chatted with Samsung+ after I told them I already FDR'd my phone and everything else they asked about they recommended I get in contact with the warranty Dept so I can get another phone that will have the same issue once it updates to Pie
same issue here . Before describing issue please e-mail me if anyone has a fix ([email protected]) .
I have Galaxy Watch and a Honda Accord 2017. Everything went fine until upgrading to Pie. Now when phone is connected to the car system it rings but cant answer the call. Not on my steering wheel nor on my touch display. Furthermore if I try calling back It rings until person answers call and then it totally drops the call from my car system. Very annoying . If anyone comes with an answer to that please e-mail me the solution
Flashed back to 8.1 and no issues, I removed system permissions for the software update app and so far it hasn't automatically updated, I just get the persistent notification.
Same here - I just migrated from my oneplus 3t to the Note 9. And as a constant User of Android Auto, this is really a big big issue for me. Any hints besides Re-Odin?
Hello, after 2 and a half years using the phone and not having big issues, just the known (red tint screen etc) and saying that the phone itself still stands good, i now have a problem. I just purchased the Creative outlier air v2 earbuds and i simply can't connect them to Nokia 8. Phone hasn't been tweaked , is stock Android 9 with the last October update. The phone discovers them i pair them, i hear the "pair successful" from the earbuds but they don't connect , instantly they appear in "Saved Earbuds" section in Bluetooth settings and the earbuds flash as they supposed to when they are disconnected from a device.
I tried pretty much everything i can find, Bluetooth on-off, developer options on-off restart, clear bluetooth app cache, clear apps settings even clear WIFI/Bluetooh cache (bye -bye wifi ssids) tried to changed the avrcp bluetooth versions to 1.4-1.6, select aptX codec etc but nothing changed. The disable bluetooth a2dp hardware offload is grayed out so i couldn't changed that, but don't know if it will make any difference.
So is there a thing i can do to make them work, tweak/re install firmware or version of bluetooth ? Or i just hit a situation that the two devices just don't go along.
Just for the record, the earbuds pair and work fine in my laptop and even in 2 Xiaomi redmi 5 i tried to.

IDK if it helps, but Creative recommends to use the SXFI app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.creative.apps.superxfiplayer&hl).
Install this app
Create your profile
Connect the earbuds to your device
Have you tried it already?
Yeah i tried that, creative suggested some methods mentioned it this site, for different Nokia models, but it was basically what i've done already(clear apps, cache, reset phone) I've given up, the only solution is just use different phone...
