maybe like a glass screen protector but for the camera, or even possibly a plastic one but it might not be as "transparent" when taking pictures.
anyone seen anything or am i going tohave to build my own?

Don't bother. Pictures will look terrible. Just take care of your phone.
i just noticed another thread on the S4 forums someone said
"Stick a piece of clear scotch tape. "
seems interesting and easy to replace/recut. i might try that first and see how image quality compares
from the posts ive seen so far, it is only luck that prevents scratches on the "sapphire" lens. as you can see in the general chat, people who have cases, people who dont put anything else in their pocket, get the same scratches as people who dont seem to care. and this is a phone i want to use for more than a year?
some of these people are 3 months in and unable to use their camera.
Brava, if you dont use your camera thats fine, but if you do, i would suggest you look at your camera lens and watch it deteriorate without any protection

Ehh, that's what I thought. Think again http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475976
I think if you don't have a case it could be a problem.
It is a hard lens, but there will be minor, very light scratches on it, most likely it won't affect your pictures, but I was thinking this same thing tho, maybe a tiny piece of ghost armor over the camera.

People that are having this serious a problem should be contacting Lg about warranty work. Sapphire shouldn't scratch up that easy, that fast under normal use. I have watches that use sapphire and the only thing not scratched to hell is the sapphire.
Yeah... I might contact LG, but I've already had Verizon replace my phone (the original one in that thread) due to the scratches... New one began doing it as well, after the first time or two I wiped it off with the underside of my shirt. I ended up using a part of my left over zeiss pure crystal screen protector and custom cut out a small piece and put it on my camera lens... Works pretty good. Oh, it doesn't scratch nearly as easily as the lens did... I've had it on for a couple of weeks now and hardly any scratching. Check out the attached photo... May hinder photo quality some, but it's not much.

It's my guess that majority of the scratches are caused by fingers, when there is a dust or debris on the lens, user mistakenly puts his/her finger on the lens trying to use the controls. I am also planning to use invisible tape on camera lens, when it is pressed against glass, it usually turns invisible, I think that might work. I can just remove and toss it when I need to use the camera, and when I am home I can just apply it again.
When I first saw LG G2 on it's release day in the store, I seriously thought those rear buttons were sliding camera cover, I thought to myself, what a great idea to protect the lens, then I realized they were buttons when I handled the phone and I could not find any buttons on the side (I initially thought there were touch sensitive sliding rocker/buttons on the side)
I took the old screen protector that was part of the packaging and cut a piece to cover the camera lens. :silly:
I haven't compared pictures, but I haven't noticed loss of quality or adverse effects for the auto-focus.

My old Sony Ericsson had a sliding camera cover, that thing was awesome. You never have to worry about finger prints or scratching the camera.
Not to mention it also worked as a shortcut for the camera app like the volume down button on the G2.

Brilliant idea, sir. :good: I should have kept it clean when I took it off instead of just tossing it away. I still have two more screen protectors, and a set from an old phone, I think I am going to do that! Just cut it in the shape of the lens, odd shape but it should be OK. Maybe I can find 1:1 pdf of the back of the G2 and use that as template. Hey, maybe we should start selling them, I am sure people will buy a screen protector bundle that comes with a small piece for the camera over the ones that don't!
And I totally miss those old days when things were more functional. I can see some manufacturer (mostly Apple does this) recycle this idea and pass it as the "next great innovation"

Haha, maybe. I don't know why more companies don't make protectors for the camera lenses on phones. It's probably even more important to protect them since they'll affect quality of pictures whereas a scratch (on a relative scratch proof gorilla glass) screen is more of an aesthetic annoyance.
I do miss the "mechanical feel" of the slider for my camera. It was fun just to play around and use the camera in that regards. I remember my criteria in selecting a cellphone was that it should be a flip phone. Might seem cheesy to some people nowadays but the feeling is much different maybe like how some people prefer physical keyboards on phones. Objects around us are becoming increasingly numb-feeling. I guess that's one of the reasons I really enjoy my mechanical watch. Might not have the accuracy of an atomic watch but it's pleasing to look at.

Rip the brand name and different colors/shades on pretty much all phones nowadays, most people can't tell one from another anymore, except Blackberry Q10. Not much originality anymore, I loved the idea of buttons on the back, and I went for it, now I find myself knocking on my wife's older LG phone, just like I found myself swiping up on all other phones when I used Z10 for 2 weeks. Originality is slowly dying not because it is a bad idea but because of all the people out there expecting things to be certain way, and to think that cellphones took this form just in last 5-6 years, I say we all got used to this way to quickly. Think about the criticism G2 received even before it was released "no way, buttons on the back, LG has lost its mind", then "Wow, I find it very easy to use and more ergonomic than trying to reach for the buttons on one sides"

Yea, it's crazy how phones (smart phones anyways) basically "standardized" over the past 5 years.
When I saw the rear buttons on the G2 before it was released, I knew it would be a great location. Bought the phone without even running by a demo and it was exactly as I expected.
The button placement works well even though many people thought otherwise.
I am confused are these scratches coming from shipment or just crap in peoples pocket
Just stumbled upon this because the GVR was making my face sore after wearing it a while. I had already replaced the stock foam pad with the alternate one which has the nose bridge. For more padding I simply took the original "noseless" pad and put it on first. I then placed the full pad on top of it, attaching the nose section to the velcro so it stays in place - in other words, double foam.
WOW.
What I didn't expect was the MAJOR REDUCTION IN SCREEN DOOR EFFECT which has been achieved simply by moving the GVR another 1/4 inch from my face. I was looking at the Mars 360 photos and I thought, "Damn these look clear." Then I looked at some others and noticed the pixels all seemed about half the size they were previously. To really test it I loaded up The Hobbit in Oculus Cinema. WOW! SO much better. Again, pixels half the size. It makes sense. Your eyes are twice as far from the lenses so pixels half as big. Incredible.
The best analogy is that instead of feeling you are looking through a screen door, it looks like the image is projected on canvas. Much much more pleasant.
So apparently the biggest cause for the screen door effect on the GVR is it's just too damned close to your eyes. I also found focusing much easier and eye strain reduced - and oh yeah, face hurt less. I find the screen looks better with this mod if I wear the GVR a bit lower on my face as well.
Give it a try. Watch the Hobbit without the "double-stuff" then watch it with - you'll see the difference.
P.S., Some have commented that this will reduce your FOV and cause focus issues at the edges. Please remember that you are only moving 1/4 in from the lenses. IMHO there is no perceptible FOV loss and no additional focus problems at the edges. The only thing which changes is the image is so much better.
Anyone try this? Any improvement? For me it's night and day.
When you get the chance, can you post a pic of what the modified padding looks like?

Just follow my instructions. Put the noseless pad on the bottom and the nose pad on the top. Simple.
But if you do that you lose so much of the picture...

What? How? You don't lose any picture at all. You simply stack the padding on top of each other. It just causes the lenses to be 1/4 inch further from your eyes so pixels look smaller. How are you losing picture?
Was just looking at 360 pics again like this. It's a whole new device. Instead of looking big and distinct pixels look like grains of sand.

Not even remotely correct. No perceived loss of FOV at all. Binocular effect actually seems lessened as the image quality is so much improved. Remember, we are talking 1/4 inch here.

You lose fov being further away, this is a fact.
You also get a more distorted picture around the edges of the lens.
Not saying it doesn't make it more clear because you are further away, just pointing out what you lose when you do this.

No I'm sorry but you are wrong. Have you actually tried it or is this just your theory?
By moving back only 1/4 inch you lose maybe 1-2% of your field of view and there is no additional distortion around the edges but the image is dramatically better - night and day. So which would you rather have, tiny pixels and 98% of the FOV or huge pixels and 100% FOV? Miniscule sacrifice, huge gain.

As a quick test tried pressing GVR harder against my face to see if pixels size increased and they did, dramatically so. Also noticed tiny increase in FOV, hardly worth it to endure the bigger pixels.

Just a clarification: the pixels are not changing size. You are looking through a concave lens. The further back you move, the less "magnified" the view becomes. It simply looks clearer because you are getting closer to the original resolution of the image by "zooming" less. If you really feel that they were a whole foam buffer off in how close the lenses should be for clear viewing, you should probably be telling Oculus. That is the sort of stuff they want to know when they release an "innovator" edition.

This is why the density solution will not work in this case. It does not apply.

I know it isn't what you want to hear, but if enough people didn't find the lens placement "optimal" the way they are, the headset would have been designed with deeper lenses. There are others that have the same issue, but they are the exception. I, on the other hand, do not suffer from this "severe" issue. It has nothing to do with density. I think it's best left between you and your optometrist. Good luck.
The closer the better for me. The extra pad makes it too blurry for me. I think the gear vr pad around the nose was removed from first goam pad because it brings your face even closer.
I went ahead and tried both and couldn't find a good focal point for my eyes. Sadly it made it far worse for me. Awesome it works for you tho and was with a try for me. I wear contacts to see, then readers to see anything closer than 3 feet. Ha

Doubt it makes any noticeable difference (tried it myself and the experience/immersion was just way worse than normally and the pixels were just as visible). This did though give me an idea - to try the Gear VR without any padding at all in order to get it as close to your face as possible. Liked it a lot more and is worth a try if the pads that came with the device don't make for a comfortable fit for you (also a lot easier to get decent focus!). Btw. has anyone figured out a way to switch seats in the cinema without the controller? Setting up the sixaxis every time I want to watch a movie is a bit of a chore (want the screen to be as big as possible, and the front seat is the only one that offers anything like that). Don't really get why void cinema doesn't allow you to move closer and farther away from the "screen"(want it to fill my entire FOV).

Ok, while I was in the Gear VR tonight, I made a point of trying to experience it through your eyes to understand what you are going at better. You know what? I did start to see it through your eyes and it only confirmed what I was saying for why you are not experiencing it like others are (as well as others that have posted with similar reactions, such as as the Official Oculus Forum where a member was very similarly disappointed for the same reasons.) You might have 20/20 vision, but you also might consider you have focus issues.
I had to start rejecting the focal point of the image and start staring at the pixels to see what you were seeing. I also kept moving the face plate away from my eyes and back to look for the pixel size change. After doing this for a few minutes where I ignored the image, my eyes began to obsess over the pixels, noting the RBG field, and was less able to focus on the actual image. Quite frankly, this is a like a person watching an old CRT TV while focusing on the pixels rather than the program overlaid on the screen. You could see those old pixels at a normal viewing distance from within a living room much as you perceive the Gear VR pixels. At any rate, because of the exercise it became distracting when I was trying to go back to focusing on the actual image while I was looking at 360 Photos. Just moving my head around I'd lose focus on the image and follow the pixels. Taking a break to reset will get me back to enjoying it.
This is why you are getting more resistance than agreement. You are focused on the wrong point and that is not what the majority does., but you aren't alone.
Hi,
I'm looking for a new device, as my Note 1 looks like it's about to join the big charger in the sky.
I know the basics - large screen, good battery & processor, meh resolution etc. Judging form the specs and reviews I've read, it looks like a good fit for me.
What I'd like to know is if you'd recommend buying it for long term use (I'm not one to change phones every year), and if there are issues with the phone you think I should know about.
It's a great phablet. Fast, comfortable and bug free. Battery seems to last forerver. Feels solid yet slippery in the hand, and close to impossible to use one handed. You won't feel the difference made by the 720p resolution after a few hours. Color reproduction is great and the screen is sharp and bright.
Coming from the note 2, i see only 3 downsides In the flex.
1. The camera. Real slow to focus indoors, produces lots of noise in dark areas... Sometimes i cant determine where the focus point is. Perfect daylight and closeups though.
2. Lack of development. This phone is locked down tight, so if you love to flash like me, it's a disappointment.
3. No cases, no glass screen protectors. Almost. You can still find them around ebay and amazon, but not as much stuff a samsung would have.
On the bottom line this is a great mid-high range phone, and for the right price, and the right mind it will do.

I don't really care about the camera. The lack of development is a bummer. Might have been a deal breaker for me if it wasn't for Xposed.
Oh, one more thing - some users had an issue with ghosting or after images on the screen. Anyone had this problem? How widespread is it?

It really is a matter of luck... Some of the phones were bad from factory.. You have something like that, you'll get it replaced with your warrenty.
If you want to keep it long term and lack of updates (and also latest apps) will bug you then I suggest Nexus 6 over it. My dad has this phone and I have the nexus, dont get me wrong g flex is a nice phone but starting to fall back in technology and will likely not get updates for 2+ years
Hello everyone!
I'm looking forward to upgrade my phone and most chances it will be the Pixel 5, notably for its small size compared to my current phone (OnePlus 3T) and 5G connectivity (As you may have realized, I'm not upgrading very often and I want to be future proof on connectivity, otherwise I would've take the 4a)
Anyway, I've been following and reading about the phone since launch, and I know there was a screen gap issue.
My question is, is there anyone here who have this gap, and if you do did it affect anything about the phone in that time? does it get worse? stays the same? or any other issues I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance!
The gap is minor. Overblown issue imo. You can barely notice it. I can slide a piece of paper between the body and screen, that's about it.

Thanks! that's the kind of response I hoped to receive, I was somewhat worried when it was first discovered and hearing about people returning their phones. How long do you have the device if I may ask?
And anyone else who can share their experience, please, go ahead!
Shoved mine in a case and forgot about it.
I don't even think mine has a gap at all. Haven't tried sliding a piece of paper in between but I don't think it will, looks perfectly attached together to me
Mine looks fine as well, I submerged my phone for 20 minutes in the sink just to test everything and it's fine. Did get the warning about wet usb port but that's obvious and expected. I just get on with it, I couldn't detect a gap, tested the best way I knew.
Wow, thanks everyone!
One more thing, as far as I know this phone isn't officially sold where I live but rather is being imported independently by certain stores. Is there any detail I should look for in regards to compatibility with frequencies? especially 5G? (Again, 5G is the main reason I chose this phone over the 4a).
Really didn't notice it....
Coming from S9, Note 10+ and many other older galaxy phones have to say this is absolutely the worst Samsung device I have ever owned.
For those considering, here are reasons why you should strongly think about whether you want to spend the money on this particular model
- Extremely large and heavy device. Doesn't fit in pockets, pulls down pants / shirts it is so heavy
- Extremely unbalanced. Hurts your hand / wrist trying to balance it unless you get a popsocket because it is so top heavy
- Super fragile screen. Low cost panel is super easy to break. Mine broke after 4 weeks of light use in a weird way (half on / half off, intermittant dimming of each display half)
- Loaded with malware. Tons of Samsung malware / adware / spyware to debloat, assuming you get the Exynos
- Back coating for anything but Silver is super easily chipped. Phantom Black chips daily unless you get a case (and increase the size)
- Runs hot. Nice in winter to keep you hands warm but otherwise annoying - any videos or games and expect to feel the heat
- Slow to charge. Super Fast charger takes an hour and a half
- Camera is misleading. Only certain zoom increments work correctly - all others are blurry / basically no improvement relative to s20
While the 10x zoom is sort of cool the reality is that this phone is a lemon compared to other Samsungs or current Apple competition.
Very unrefined effort relative to iphone or better Sammy devices (ex. Note 10+ or Galaxy Alpha) in terms of weight / materials / balance / display.
Likely last Samsung I buy - seriously considering Pixel 5 on GrapheneOS given the litany of hardware and software issues from a super expensive phone you don't really even own.
Interesting perspective. This is my first return to Samsung after writing them off years ago. Outside of the bloat (which can be removed via ADB) and the lack luster camera performance (in comparison to the Pixel line) the phone is solid! It's not any heavier than other similar size devices. It's very fluid and smooth. It's got great hardware and build quality.
If it hurts your wrist... I really can't help you there. Never had such an issue. The balance point in the device is at about the power button so pretty mid phone really.
Most of the weight related comments are subjective. I actually prefer the weight and feel of this device compared to the Note 20 ultra.
You forgot... no SD card slot. No native spen.
And those wretched rounded display corners.
I would at least expect it to be more durable with dog ugly rounded corners. It's a step backward in design and features. I wouldn't buy it for $400.
It wouldn't be the first time I rejected/bypassed a Samsung release.
Samsung has always run hot and cold.
Feel the wuv... just my opinion

I was like you once in regards to the near right angled corners of the Note series. It was my favorite aesthetic part of this phone. But maybe boredom got the better of the me. As I'm digging the smooth rounded corners now. It's so nice to hold in the hand nekid. Ooh errr....
The curved edges are less aggressive as well. The s21U with a 6.9" display would have been nice. Roll on the s22U lol. Truth be told, I would have probably been a Huawei guy by now. Now they make some good hardware. But ant competitive practices put an end to their rise to dominance.
PS I'm in the process of removing bloat. Doesn't seem to be as effective on this device. Perhaps disabling isn't as good as uninstalling like what I used to do ?
This is an entirely subjective assessment of the phone. I never had any of these issues and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of the phone. I made sure to do my research before getting this phone and weigh what the important aspects of it vs the not so important aspects. I'm sorry you've had this experience and I hope you get the right device for you next time.

Mine are quite strong surprisingly
Perhaps consider using a belt or jackets with bigger pockets... This phone weighs as much as the iPhone 12 Pro Max and less than the Mi 11 Ultra. If you want the best, you have to accept the weight.
There's no more or less "malware" than any other Samsung device.
What's misleading about the camera? It's got 4 rear cameras each with a specific zoom level.
This sounds like one of those situations where you should've tried out the phone in a store before buying it. Online reviews isn't the same as holding it in your hands.

Indeed. The issue with the size and weight would've been avoided if he/she had done a physical trial of the phone before buying.
Also, the experience of one doesn't mean the experience of many.

Walk softly and carry a big S21...
Sounds to me like the author of this potentially sarcastic post, really needs a pink iphone 12 mini.....
