Move app to external storage - Samsung Galaxy M31 Questions & Answers

I realize that "move app to external storage" is not available on the wretched One UI Core layer of the M31.
Is there any way to enable this manually? E. g. using ADB?
Thank you.

It's that difficult, is it?

There's one "Force allow apps on external" in developer options. I hope this helps.

apps2sd on stock froyo?

Has anyone found any apps that this works with or do we need to wait for all the devs to come out with new versions? All i checked wouldn't allow me to move them.
Unrooted by the way.

Every app has to be updated by the author. No way around it.
If your rooted you can just switch the toggle to 2 and all the apps can be moved over to sd and new apps install there by defaut. I'm not a real app whore having maybe 50 more or less but still, they are every last one on the sd.
No problem thankyou. Just making sure I was not doing anything wrong with it lol.

Try searching im almost positive that there is a tut on it but, You need to install the Android SDK and create a connection to your device with the sdk.
You can then run the ADB command from terminal(mac OSX) or CMD(windows)

i switched setInstallLocation to 2 but if i try to move an app to the sd card or install anything from the market my phone just restarts.
anyone else having this problem?
i installed the ota from .zip directly over cyanogen 5.0.6 no wipe
sdcard is formatted fat32/ext3/swap
any help appreciated.
Is there an easy way to find out which of the currently installed apps have been updated to support FroYo's apps2sd?
There has to be a better way than to open Manage applications, sort by size and then click on on each app..

Had this problem a while back. A wipe was required before it worked correctly.
There is also my modded spare parts that let's you choose where to force install app, without having to go through adb

There's a free app on the market called "App 2 SD", it shows all apps that can be moved and moves them for you (that should be all of them
Visit this link from your phone or use Chrome-to-phone if you used the shell command above) if you're cool like that:
App2SD
[EDIT] Having the App 2 SD app running after using the command above will crash the apps!
yeah if you want to spend ages compiling

Take backup before doing this. all apps installed after this will go to SD card
1. Get the Google Android SDK
- Unzip the file and place the folder onto your desktop or anywhere that can be easily accessed.
- find the platform tools folder (default, it should be : adt-bundle/sdk)
2. - Open the folder called " platform-tools"
- shift+right-click anywhere inside the folder and choose [Open Command Window Here]
3. Go onto your Android phone and select USB debugging
- Go to [System settings > Developer Options] and select USB Debugging (if the option is grayed out, unplug your phone first)
4. Enter in the following
adb devices
adb shell pm set-install-location 2
adb shell pm get-install-location
5. - if you did it right, the last output should say: 2 [external]

1. I cannot confirm it will work

Did you find any solution?
Got a part solution if you install the file from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42398581 and then I'm using gl2sd ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp) to move the files to sd card. It's not perfect but it's a start

So I'm assuming it only shows the data partition and not the system partition, correct?
So how do I install Xposed on an HTC Evo 4G that barely has any internal space to work with?

Disable USB debugging (menu/settings/developer options)
I spent a couple hours troubleshooting this evening and figured it out. You can re-enable it after you install Xposed.
The script was complaining because it thought /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 (/system) on my Droid X was full.

Hi all,
Yes, the above suggestion worked for me on Nexus 6 Stock and rooted. If your ROM partition (2 GB) has less space available (less than 15 MB), its possible to see "No space left on device" error. I had 14 MB left and was able to install Xposed after removing a bunch of apps from system ROM and freeing some more space (35 MB). Try it ... might work for you!

You need to delete/uninstall or move to user (NOT DISABLE) at least one of the following from the system drive
YouTube

At least 2 languages for google keyboard

Stickmount

Stickmount works perfectly with stock/rooted/decrypted N6..Now I dont need to worry about more storage..FYI guys..sweet..Run some movies with MX player. I am not in any way associated with Mr Chainfire..This is one way to show my appreciation to the king of rooting Mr.Chainfire himself who always open the flood gate for Android.. I highly recommend the pro version for more functionality. You can use the free version too..
You need to be rooted to run this app.
Update: Just update my N7 flo WiFi version to 501 ..Run stickmount and works flawlessly . Fire up some movies with MX player. Will update you guys when N5/N6 get updated to 501 hopefully.
UPDATE: Sorry guys/gals for the delay I update to 501 as soon as it came out but I am a little bit busy the past few days but .as usual stickmount works maybe there's not much that google did to 501 compare to 5..0 but any way it works so were back in business..

If you want to just read whats on the USB storage, try the app Nexus Media Importer.
If you want full read/write access, you need to root your phone and use an app like Stickmount.

Stickmount works great, the usb drive shows up in a sub directory of "sd card". For TWRP you don't need stickmount just select usb as a storage option. I use USB to backup in TWRP works great.

Im still having the same issue as before but it's bit a big deal.

Access to SD card

When I try to move a file to/delete a file from my sd card i get the prompt to enable access to the root directory of my sd card. I click 'got it' and instead of getting the file manager type screen with select button i get 'operation failed'. It then says to 'turn on files in settings > installed apps first. I can't find anything in settings like this... any ideas???
Okay figured this one out too...turns out there is an app called Files and an option to enable it. Did that and then I could select the root of the SD card...voila!
