Samsung Quick Share appx for Windows 10? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hiya, hope everyone doing well.
Like how we have the appx package for the Samsung Notes Windows 10 app for use in non-Samsung laptops, I was wondering if it will be possible to get the .appx package for Samsung Quick Share Windows app so that we can install it in non-Samsung laptops. Any idea guys?

Just paste the url and choose the app name to download(others are dependencies). Actually it won't get appx, it will get msixbundle, but it can be installed on windows 10 and also 11.

Believe me its the best 'phone' available in the market.

Your request is very modest. You're asking someone to spend hours trying to establish whether certain apps run on the Note (or Android) or not.
Go visit the Google Market and see for yourself. There's tens of thousands of apps there, covering everything under the sun.
GNote can be rooted, that I can tell you, our future good member.

i came from an n900 too, was a good swap.
you can use something like eset mobile security for your sms con stuff. more or less the same thing, can remote wipe, remote lock, remote GPS, etc. although samsungdive.com will give you similar control via a web browser.
no xterminal that i know of, so you cant run 'sudo gainroot' but there are other ways of gaining root. theres a one click root method.
theres another app called 'gotya!' where it snaps a photo of whoever is trying to unlock your device and then emails the photo to you.
backup stuff can be handed via clockworkmod on custom firmwares or via samsung kies software.
there are plenty of emulators on the android market/google play or whatever its called now.
multitasking on android isnt as efficient as on the n900. on the n900, you have that multitask button, which was pure awesome. on android, by default the nearest thing we have is if you press and hold the home key, you can see the last bunch of recent apps, it doesnt tell you if its running or not. there was a visual task switcher on the market that ran similar to the n900 multitask method, but it doesnt run on anything newer than froyo. the next best thing would be something like 'smart task switcher'.
dunno about the other stuff you've mentioned though.
Hi Nicholes,
openssh - yes, there are several free ssh client apps, but better terminal emulator pro (£2.49) gets best reviews. I haven't tried ssh on the note myself (yet!) - I used it on n900 at first but soon replaced with openvpn which met my needs better. I've setup openvpn on my note (requires root and a custom kernel with tun.ko) it runs very nicely.
smscon - partial: samsung offer their own free app for the note, see: http://v2.samsungdive.com/help/guideRemoteControlsClear.do and there are other smilar free apps - however I haven't seen one that offers linux shell command "passthrough" via SMS like the SMScon app does for n900. I used to use reverse ssh to be able to do full remote control of my n900 outwith any apps - it took a while to get that set up to maintain tunnels across wifi/3G changes, and once I had it working I never had cause to use it Anyway, a combination of one of the free remote location pps plus ssh should give you most of what you're used to.
backup menu - I never used it on n900, but if you root the note then you have titanium backup (for apps/data) and CWM (full /system image).
evil alarm - haven't looked, but guaranteed to be one in android market (or should I say "google play" as it's about to be rebranded).
HEN - yes, note has full usb on the go/host mode out of the box, so much easier and more reliable, plug & play
xterminal - yes. plenty of terminal emulators to choose from, I use "terminal emulator". It's not as nice as n900, lacking the h/w keyboard and it doesn't support tab key to autocomplete, but pretty usable.
emulators - gain, no idea but pretty sure there are loads
vnc viewer - yes, I use pocketcloud free - excellent VNC client. The free version only allows one saved connection but that is sufficient for me. THe screen size of the note makes this a far better remote access solution than the n900 (even though I loved presenceVNC, you cant beat some physical real estate for remote access work). There is also 2x client for RDP client access to windows boxes. This is free, has no limitations, and works excellently. Again, better than RDP client on n900 partly due to better/more intuitive mouse/keyboard support but also jsut screen size.
root access - yes, pretty easy to do although some newer firmwares are not directly rootable (need a downgrade->root-> upgrade). Drawbacks to being rooted I've come across: some apps (eg. skygo for UK access to sky TV) don't work with rooted phones unless you jump through hoops;
and how is multitasking on galaxy note? errr ... a bit of a dissapointment after n900! task switching is a bit cumbersome by comparison (though fine once you are used to it) but android tends to arbitrarily remove tasks from memory if you aren't using them which sucks. Also, if you are watching video it's not easy to concurrently do other stuff on android - as soon as you switch away from video, it auto-pauses. that said, the extra RAM makes up to an extent
I'd suggest you re-post this question over at TMO - there is a samsung galaxy note thread there which has been running for a while and there are several active n900/note users on it who know much more than me about android and I think you'll probably get more/better replies there. They are currently discussing an Android video player that allows you to run the video windowed or even minimised
EDIT - oh, just noticed that you've already posted there too ... you're way ahead of me!

I did not find (or manage to compile) openssh for Android. dropbear has much less features (both client and server), so if you use any specific feature that openssh has and dropbear does not have, you might have a problem. I wrote a simple bash script to parse openssh's .ssh/config file and run dropbear with the correct parameters, which gives me a client that behaves similarly to openssh client.

Tab completion is not a function of the terminal emulator, but of the shell. The ash shell which is included in busybox in packages such as "terminal emulator" and "sshdroid" does support tab completion. It is not the default login shell, so you need to change the configuration, or run it manually.

Actually, as a Note owner i would have preferred maemo on my Note. Too bad they dropped it for sucky wp7

I did the swap and was obsessed with my n900. But the note is far far superior. Its not quite as 'nerdy' as the n900 in my opinion. But does everything I've asked of it. wait until you see the notes screen. Its blinding in comparison to the n900. You wont look back. Trust me. Providing you have some basic technical knowledge (which I assume you do coming from the Nokia) you will have no trouble rooting and playing with kernels. Etc. It seems to me that the devs for the note and for android in general provide more complete packages than I experienced on the n900. Kernels are optimized and roms have all the tweaks you would want applied. Where the n900 was more of a manual affair messing with the terminal (which I did love doing). I barely use the terminal now as most apps are very well written and have all the tweaks and features you need for customizing without the nitty gritty of line by line and scripts in the n900. Just my opinion though!

While on this issue, is there a replacement for Mappero (maemo-mapper)? The features I miss in Google Maps compared to Mappero are:
On map tracking (including display of track length).
Display of route length/route distance remaining.
Precaching of maps by coordinates or along routes.
Saving of routes (for using without internet access.
You've got many answers on the app side of questions so i'll just say this. I too came from the n900 and i am very disappointed with the multitasking. I also completely agree with _pigro_.
There isnt much else im not happy with though. The size is phoenominal!

Sure it is capable of running lots at the same time but the actual handling of multitasking on android is far inferior.
Dont get me wrong, i am impressed with android, but i expected better multitasking. I have also experienced closing of apps that i left running but most of the time its seems ok and i can get used to it as the note is impressive in every other way.
The n900 also gave live thumbnails of apps when switching which still impressed me for the two years after my contract ended that i kept the n900 for. Such a good phone for its time.

[APP] BraviaControl: Control your Sony Bravia Smart TV

Download from the Store.
I purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX525 a few months ago and noticed that there were official remote control apps for Android and iPhone from Sony but, unfortunatelly, not for WP7 (not even an unofficial one). Since I own a LG Optimus 7 I got curious about this and started to develop something similar for myself, specifically because I hate using the stock remote control to enter text.
I based my work on this blog post http://blogs.msdn.com/b/andypennell...ws-phone-7-5-mango-part-1-ssdp-discovery.aspx. Many thanks to Andy Pennell for that, his post was really helpful and a great starting point.
The app requires you to be on the same network as the TV.
If you want to try this make sure the TV is ON (give it time to initialize the services. It cannot be turned on/off with this app because it has to talk to the IRCC service that is only available when the device is ON). See the screen of your TV the first time you run the app because it requires that you register your device in order to be able to iterate.
I appreciate your feedbacks, suggestions, bug report or questions that you may have.
Tested on models:
- KDL-40EX525 (mine)
- KDL-32HX758 (thanks lordmaxey)
It should work on:

Hi!
I wanted to try your app, but my television (w655) didn't want to agree on that.
Are you maybe willing to share the source code of the app?
Or do you want to check why it's not working?
Thanks!

Hey there,
I've been researching a little bit about it before. It looks like Sony changed completely the way to remote control in latest models, specially W series. No documentation about that. So, the only way to try to discover how it works now, is to have a W series to try with (which I do not have)
Sorry about that.
What you can do is try to discover how the new service works by yourself, so we can expand the compatibility of the App. If you are interested, I can guide you with some clues, tools and techinches I used in the past to do so.
I may open the code, I haven't even considered it but I think it's a good idea.

Sounds good, give me a couple of days to set it up and will let you know.
In the meantime, does your device description xml look like this one? http://www.upnp-database.info/device.jsp?deviceId=662 (See Description XML tab). If so, you may want to try ScalarWebAPI service on your modes. In that xml you can get some urls that will return some valuable (or not) information that may give you some clues.

Hey, sorry for the delay on sharing the code, I changed laptop and had to re-setup my dev env. Will try to have it done for the weekend.
In the meantime...I wonder what all this urls return:

Basically everything under <av:X_ScalarWebAPI_ServiceList> from dmr.xml. Actually, I would try any url available in that file
We should see where getRemoteCommandList api is located (together with other relevant APIs)
In previous models it was returned as a result from http://192.168.1.54/cers/ActionList.xml. It should be somewhere else now.
Also, did you confirmed that there is no registration required now at all?

This is all good. It would be great if we find the url that actually returns the list of APIs. Have you tried http://ip:80/sony/system to see what it returns in the browser?

all commands i've found so far are from capturing traffic from my android tablet
check here: http://mendelonline.be/sony/sony.txt
further, the "register" function exists, but it not really necesarry...
i noticed the sony tablet app registering, but i can just send commands from upnpspy directly from my pc without registering...
another thingy: wol is just basic wake on lan
I received an email from the creator of the windows app that works for our 2013 model bravia. (http://falcosoft.hu/softwares.html#sony_virtual_remote)
Hi,
I would like to share my experiences with you, maybe it can help in the
investigation of the new API structure.
1. The registered status is not required in 2011/12 Sony TV models either to
send pure IRCC SOAP messages (or use the X_SendIRCC UPnP service) .
2. The registered status is required to get meaningful response from url
based API functions (e.g sendText, getText, getRemoteCommandList etc..)
So just an idea: You should try to test these new URL based commands with a
registered status. To achieve this:
1. You should make a new registration and send these data with your browser
2. Use an existing registration e.g. Falcosoft's Sony Virtual Remote and
send the program's data with your browser.
I suggest to use Firefox with Modify Headers plugin. For option 2 here are
the required header fields:
'X-CERS-DEVICE-ID' -> 'vaio:11111111-D7A0-11DD-119C-6D990C3C4529' ;
'X-CERS-DEVICE-INFO' -> 'falco_virtual_remote' ;

Interesting fact that that app works for you. I think this is because that app uses some hardcoded data by default while BraviaControl completely relies on the APIs exposed by the services. It looks like some APIs where left there "hidden" for backward compatibility purposes. I think we should try something like: Cannot find the APIs?, try to force the use. In your case, it may partially (or completely, why not?) work.
Anyway, all that json conversation looks like to be the new way to comunicate with the TV, so, it will be nice to implement that sometime too.
Thanks! I have already set up the code in the cloud. Will be sending the details on how to access it soon (Sorry, I don't currently have very much time free for this project, so bear with me )

Accessing Notes on PC

Hi Community,
does anyone have a idea how to access my notes taken with the notes app on my PC? I have setup syncing with my Samsung account but cannot find a web application. The Win10 notes app in the MS store is not compatible with my Dell. Ideas?
Thanks much
You can in a limited way, by sharing them as PDF.
I installed s-note and enabled sharing with evernote. That way I can use my webbased or pc based evernote app to access my apps on all my computers. I went back and forth with other apps and found this to be the easiest way. I also have a surface book with which I take notes and tried onenote for a while, but came back to evernote.
Google Keep would probably be the easiest solution. DL notebuddy and set it to auto-launch keep instead of stock app. I've been very satisfied with this setup.

I find onenote to be very good for syncing between different devices (i have a laptop, an android tablet and the note 8, not to mention guest login to various other devices), it seamlessly syncs so no need to be messing around with exporting and importing data, it's free and the PC version can OCR your scribbles too. Its free (even the desktop version which is miles better than the metro version), only downside is you need a live account.

I use OneNote for now but really like the Samsung Note app in terms of features. I often run I to situations where I accidentally touch the screen with my palm and OneNote is very sensitive to that. I end up in looking where I was noting things down. It's a distraction since I take a lot of notes during meetings. Samsung notes also let's me easily rearrange parts of my notes. I always keep action items on top so I see what still needs to be done in the notes overview screen. They expand while I add items and my notes move down along with that. It's the little things I guess.

I always find the palm rejection quite good, but you are right the composition and inking ability on the android version is frustrating, i just wished they would bring the android version closer in line with the desktop version (which does want your asking plus more), ultimately i end up cleaning up my notes on the PC version.
My workaround for the time being to use SideSync and access my Samsung notes via PC and a USB cable. A little cumbersome in setup but I can write directly into Samsung Notes. I just wish there would be clipboard sharing between my PC and the SideSync app.

HI, I am a fan of google keep, however, it has become so unstable that it crashes on all my devices in the middle of my work, only on my tablet works better, it too crashes but less frequently. I have tried all forums, could not find the answer except for rolling back, then I have stop autoupdate for all apps :crying:
Hi anyone still looking to do this
I've just found that Samsung Notes in the Windows Store works now
Finally I'm a happy man this was driving me nuts, no idea why it took them so long to sort it

I have the same problem. It says Samsung notes for Win 10 and available on PC (among others). My build is much later than the minimum required - I have green ticks against all the requirements. Then it says "Not compatible with my device"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope someone who built the thing sees this and puts it right!

I tired a few days ago and cannot install in it on my surfacebook or surface pro 3 and even the latest surface pro
I think it might just be meant for samsung laptops ???
Edit : I just tried on my old acer and voila it installs... Holy sh*t
Edit: Oops got it wrong.. It was S note and not samsung notes... Samsung notes need Arm architecture... Most of the pc's are intel based.
Samsung Notes does not need ARM, as it works perfectly on my Notebook 9 Pro, which has Intel processor...

I was looking at the requirement for the app in Microsoft store and for Samsung Notes it says ARM only...
S Note on the other hand needs x86 or x64
Are sure it is Samsung note and not s note?
Edit : it may be that it is a Samsung laptop... So I guess they can bypass the requirement

[Request] Windows 10 Your Phone "Phone Screen" Feature

Hi all,
As you all know there is an Windows 10 app/feature called "Your Phone" its amazingly helpful to reach your phone features from your Windows 10 PC.
Some of Samsung phones has "Your Screen" feature also, it is really amazing, you can see and use your phone via your keyboard/mouse and also drag and drop files to your phone is very useful. I think its Cast feature with input controls. I think it could be available for all phones with a magisk module, if there is some developer interesting this, it would be amazing if there will be a module for available it on all Android devices.

Thanks.

So, here is my workaround for the your phone feature.
I use KDE Connect, for transfering files between devices and at the same time it shows notifications as well. The software is very light (1.9MB of RAM) in the background compared to your phone. The other one, which i personally dont use, but has the phone screen/screen mirroring feature it's an open source software called Scrcpy. Hope this information helps.
Use the dell/alienware mobile connect app. It has the same functionality and can be installed on non dell pcs via a workaround with powershell. Works great. I had mirroring from day one almost. instructions are listed here, the top comment not the OP. Let me know if you can't find the driver etc

To begin, what make the 'app' feature exclusive? Is missing features in the stock rom? then what features? Since I have a xiaomi I think I will wait the xiaomi version, but is sad how there's no alternative and no one created one to rooted devices, since the community is very big.

Question How do you recover backed up Samsung Notes files / see their content on PC?

According to this post, Samsung Notes stores my data in data/data/com.samsung.android.app.notes, so I backed it up. Though, when I try to restore it on my phone, Samsung Notes crashes. Restoring only SDocData and app-attach directories does not work either as the app shows 0 notes. Restoring the database file leads to a crash again.
It's been also noted in the post that one can view the notes with the .sdoc extension but I was unable to find any raw text in them when opened as .zip archives. There are .dat files inside.
What do I need to do to recover my notes? I have over 300 notes and no cloud backup.

It's an Ubuntu based Linux distribution.
Apparently you can view the notes as plain text here but I don't know what this online tool is doing different. When I try to open the same file with vi, I see random strings of characters.
