Huawei P9 WiFi issues - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hello,
The WiFi on the phone just stopped working ~2 months after a factory reset. It was simply running stock (Android 7.0 with all the Huawei crap) and was barely used, no SIM or anything. It still connects to the network, reporting an excellent connection and even exchanging a few bytes of data every so often, but trying to load anything up like a web page simply reports there isn't an internet connection. Every other device on the network works flawlessly.
I tried resetting network settings; then all settings; messing with DNS settings; connecting to a different band of the network; opening up the phone and checking the antenna... And that's where my surface knowledge stops. I'd wipe the cache partition (?) through the EMUI recovery (Vol Up + Power), but whoever designed the Huawei Recovery is......... As it requires an update before I can even do any basic functions on my phone and well, I can't update because I can't get WiFi to work.
I'm not keen on trying to unlock this device and load any ROMs or anything, I'd simply like to sort the WiFi issue out. But need be I could. Any and all help in troubleshooting this is welcome.
Cheers

Debugging phone connectivity

Hi guys,
I'm still working on figuring out the connectivity issues of my O2X. My problem has been that my data connectivity intermittently drops out, and fails to establish one and move out of WiFi range.
I have completely reset my phone to stock with the latest updates available in Norway. This is baseband 622, and version number 10c. The problem I am consistently having is that whenever I have stayed on one connection type (WiFi or 3G/edge) for any length of time and then switch, the phone fails to establish a connection through the other service. This means that whenever I have been home connected to my WiFi for awhile and move out, mobile data is not established. Similarly, when I get home, it does not automatically connect to my home WiFi network. In both cases the solution is to turn on and off WiFi mobile data (sometimes several times) to re-establish the connection.
If I quickly moved in and out a range of my WiFi, the switches between the two connections without any problems.
This is with everything stock. Is there any point in trying the other basebands? I have tried a few of them already, but without consistently good results.
The alternative solution is to send it in for repair, but they will only tested, figure out that they cannot locate the problem because they do not have the funds stay with the same connection long enough, flash the phone with the latest firmware, and send it back. After repeat this three times, I'm entitled to a refund or a new device, but it means that I will basically be without my phone for around six weeks.
Any and all solutions are greatly appreciated.
Edit: I guess a possible solution is just to use Tasker or something similar to reset mymobile data connection when I leave WiFi, and regularly reset WiFi when on mobile data.
I believe I have the same problem.
The 3G data connection would drop about every 10 minutes.
I got the phone a week ago and it too came with 10c firmware and 0622 baseband.
I believe that this is a hardware problem because I have flashed other firmware + baseband combos and yet this same problem still occurs.
I have sent the phone back for repairs yesterday. I hope that they can fix this problem.
Again, its probably baseband related....
Same for me here

My XT860 weird sudden WiFi issue

Hello everyone, I know I am totally new to the forum but I assure you that before I wrote this, & before I even joined, I’ve been digging into all WiFi-related problems.
Before I post in this great forum I want to say that I owe all the developers here a BIG thanks, not only for development effort, but also for all help and guidance, it is you guys what make this forum and android community amazing! THANK YOU GUYS !!
The post might look long but I thought describing the issue in one brief post would be better in avoiding doing so in the form of many 2-line posts scattered through a 10-page thread.
Although my WiFi issue seems to me more like a hardware malfunction issue, it seems it’s one of its own where some indicators make me doubt it could be related to software too.
Here what the problem is about:
While I was messaging on WhatsApp, my phone suddenly disconnected from home WiFi & wasn’t able to reconnect anymore at all.
I now can only scan for wireless networks; here is how the problem takes place:
- As soon as I connect to a WiFi network, either it being secured or non-secured, the procedure gets stuck for 10-20 seconds at “Obtaining IP address from (Network ABC)”
- WiFi stays on but then shows “disconnected” or “Unsuccessful”, & (Network ABC) disappears from available networks list (unknown networks doesn’t)
- (Network ABC) reappears –> Device tries connecting to it –> Hangs in obtaining IP –> WiFi turns off
- I turn it on –> Device tries connecting to (Network ABC) –> Fails the same way –> WiFi turns off
- I turn it on –> Hangs completely in “Turning On…”, can’t disable or enable or anything, & got to reboot or battery would drain like crazy!
Things I tried (with no good):
- Resetting my WiFi router (other devices can connect to it)
- Connecting to other private & public routers that other devices normally connect to
- Fix WiFi using market applications: FXR WiFi fix and rescue, and Fix My WiFi
- Wiping cache & Wiping/Factory reset using the built in recovery on device
- Restoring a non-safe system recovery img that was created before the problem started
- Using RSDLite to flash the XT860 5.5.1-112 sbf available at sbf.droid-developers.org
- Safestrap: Wiped cache & dalvik cache, Formatted /system, then Wiped/Factory reset
- Connecting WiFi while on other ROMs (in safe system): CM9, MAVROM 4.5, DarkDroid 1.1, & the rooted deodexed 2.3.6 Motoblur.
Other info & symptoms that may help:
- Mobile hotspot not working in the manner of WiFi: As soon as my laptop or another device tries connecting to my XT860 mobile hotspot, the hotspot disappears from network list on my laptop
- The problem started during my first WiFi usage after the enabling of APN mobile network data
- When I switched on WiFi while Mobile Data was enabled, phone showed a successful connection to my home WiFi ! But stayed for a minute or two, then disconnected, then mobile data would hang & wouldn’t get disabled without a reboot
- WhatsApp chooses random tones when a message is received, even after the many flashes I did (this might sound geeky to mention lol, but it all actually started when I was using WhatsApp, which works using radio)
- GSM network and Bluetooth are working fine
So what do you guys think? What is the chance of it being about the drivers or something?
Or is it totally a hardware defect that grants me a replacement especially that it started while on stock?

Given it survived an rsdlite flash I would lean towards hardware. I know people have had issues with rsdlite not flashing properly, you could confirm by using moto-fastboot to flash the device manually. It's a command line utility, I'm not sure how comfortable you are using terminal commands

Thanks, I'll try the moto-fasboot way..
But what if it is really a hardware defect? I once read that rooting voids warranty, I mean with all what I've tried to solve this, would Motorola still provide a replacement?

Fastboot flashing removes the signs of rooting. Same as RSDLite. It's what they would do for a software issue, it pushes the factory software image.
Lots of people in this forum have gotten replacements after having rooted.

[Solved] WiFi Connected, but not working

I don't have a password on my WiFi and my Moto X will connect to my WiFi and was working fine yesterday, but today will not load web pages or application data (ie product listings on Amazon, Google Play store apps, etc). I tried forgetting resetting my router and forgetting my WiFi on the phone, but neither helped. I also tried to clear my phone cache via recovery, but when I selected recovery, it booted up seemingly normal with no cell signal and Commserver started. A reboot fixed the Commserver/Cell issue but I still can't get WiFi working right.
I have a desktop, 2 laptops, a Nexus tablet, and an HTC phone in the house, all of which are connected and have no issues accessing the internet.
EDIT: It was an early Omen! Everything else stopped connecting to internet within about 2 hours until the internet died all together. I had to call my ISP to get it fixed and running again. The Moto X must just be that good at predicting my internet going down, lol. Still concerned about the recovery booting to CommServer though...

Wifi Issue after updating to OREO..

I am using SM-N950F, rooted with SuperSU.. I am having WIFI connection issue since I have updated t OREO..
After few minutes my connections show Exclamation mark and "Internet mignt not be available" message..
There is nothing wrong with my router as is it working fine on other devices.. and it was working fine with Nougat..
Please anyone help me with this issue..
I have the same issue. Not found a solution yet.
It's annoying. I'm on unlocked btu btw
I have the same issue after the Oreo update... It worked for weeks after the update, and suddenly I am experiencing the same "internet might not be available" issue. It affects Play Store too, I am unable to download or update apps, they get stuck on "Downloading" and eventually fail.
It is very annoying. I hope someone has some way to fix this or some explanation at least...
My N950F is not rooted, I am using the XEF official ROM.
I've been having the very same issues, no matter which Oreo released I've used, hard resets make no difference either.
The only way I've been able to get around this is by setting the router to use TKIP instead of AES, it seems this is the issue as even when tethering (which creates a hotspot using AES too) the connected device drops connectivity too.
So in summary, try changing your routers encryption method to TKIP, it's not as secure as AES but at this stage, it seems to be the only solution I can find.
Same issue it's annoying and killing my battery
I had the same issue and was a problem with one modem, not with my phone, because at work the wifi sucked, drops, low speed etc etc, but back home everything was great (even faster than Nougat)
What I did was to change the wifi security settings, Encryption algorithm was "AES only", change it to "TKIP/AES" and the problema is gone.
Have you tried wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode? If that doesn't work then I would recommend that you try a Hard Factory Reset

Inconsistent network error

I am having trouble with inconsistent results when accessed through mobile data carrier. It shows 4g, however it fails to be consistent enough with the carrier signals. To explain, when I access Google.com, it takes bit of time(3-4 sec) to reach Google servers and it responds after the delay. This phenomenon starts recently and initially thought it could be an issue with Service providers, so I decided to use different devices and try the same, it connects flawlessly. Same applies for any game or with any app.
To be more precise, I had issue with connecting to hotspots or WiFi and mobile data before I reset to factory settings. WiFi starts working and hotpsot fails inbetween.
I tried to reset network settings which did not help and then reset to factory settings. It does the same, anybody facing this issue? Any help is much appreciated.
