Phone Hard Bricked after Android 11 update - Realme X2 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, as of this morning (July 10, 2021) i received an OTA update notification and obviously proceeded with it. Well, after finishing and rebooting the phone screen would turn on and off a few times in a second and i couldn't use the lockscreen at all. Calls and alarms still worked tho.
After a quick search i saw someone suggesting to format data, so i proceeded to do just that, after almost finishing at the last stage (like 1% remaning) it prompted an error and turned off.
What i can do and what i can see:
-Pressing Power Button
-Screen turns on with Realme white logo and powered by android underneath
-after a few seconds phone vibrates turns the screen off and on and the realme logo is back again
-after a few more seconds the screen goes totally white and doesn't turn off
-pressing any button once doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button and Volume - doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button and Volume + for 10 seconds turns off the phone
-Pressing and holding Power Button and Volume -
-Screen turns on with Realme white logo and powered by android underneath
-after a few more seconds the screen goes totally white and doesn't turn off
-pressing any button once doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button and Volume - doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button and Volume + for 10 seconds turns off the phone
-Pressing and holding Power Button and Volume +
-Screen turns on with Realme white logo and powered by android underneath
-after a few seconds phone vibrates turns the screen off and on and the realme logo is back again (2 times)
-Connecting to a charger (via USB to the PC)
-Screen turns on with the spark logo and a circle aroung it
-after a few seconds phone vibrates and the realme logo is back again
-after a few more seconds the screen goes totally white and doesn't turn off
-pressing any button once doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button and Volume - doesn't change the state
-pressing and holding Power Button and Volume + for 10 seconds turns off the screen then it flickers for an instant to white and then turns off
-in this state the phone can't be turned on again, i have to disconnect the cable and then press Power Button and Volume + for more than 10 seconds to turn it on
Obviously the phone is not recognized by ADB

Hello I have the same issue. After applying the Android 11 update, my phone was locked and flickering with a lock icon. I rebooted into recovery and did a wipe and format. I got an error message format failed. Now the phone restarts and falls to boot into recovery. I have a white screen.
I have tried to use ADB to to boot into fast boot mode but I get an "unrecognised device" message. I have tried installing ADB USB delivers to no avail.
Would appreciate getting my phone up and running again.
Many thanks!
Irshad

I've exactly the same problem after applying rmx1931ex_11_f.11-Update (Android 11). First flickering screen and after wipe a white screen in place of recovery.
I was trying to contact the realme-support via email without answer.
On ebay is somebody who offers an unbrick service which if already contacted, but he needs remote access to my computer.
Did you have some progress on your phones?
regards windigo

Hi Windigo,
No luck mate I have sent multiple emails to Realme and have not heard back. Please let me know if you are successful and I will have my phone done as well.
Thanks!

At the end I got my phone unbricked with the help of that ebay-guy and a remote-session on my laptop - check article 402661557038. Sadly they made it more expensive now.
But I will try to explain it, what he did and found also a good explanation in 4pda which I will translate into english.
see https://4pda.to/forum/index.php?showtopic=986690&st=3240#entry103410894
1. Download the files from google-drive, which are hidden in the 4pda-post spoiler "Ссылка". You will need everything except the excel-sheet
2. save everything in one folder
3. install the qualcom-driver for edl-mode.
4. next start the program auth-flash and push the button "register", after that push login. buy 1 credit via the program.
with credentials you can also login at http://auth-flash.com/ - at this website are also contacts to buy this one credit (minimum 7$)
=> this step has done the ebay-guy for me. so I can't help here
5. after charging this one credit on your auth-flash-account you have to open the msm download tool from google drive and enter the credentials (region non-europe)
6. unpack RMX1931EX_11_C.32_200918_1cb40e2f.zip and choose the included ofp-file from msm download tools
7. connect a usb cable to your computer
8. your smartphone has to be switched off
9. hold volume up & down pressed and plug in the usb cable in your smartphone. this will boot up your phone in edl-mode. the screen from the phone keeps black
in the windows device manager you should see under ports something like "qdl 8000"
10. press refresh in msm download tool and you should see an entry in the list like "COM3 connected"
11. then start the flash by pushing the start-button
12. after the flash in edl mode is finiahed your phone should start up normally.
I had to switch once more into bootloader mode an wipe all data, because otherwise I couldn't switch on wifi in android
13. after that I upgraded via ota to android 11, made once again a factory reset in bootloader and started to restore my apps,...
So the tricky part in my opinion is to get that 1 credit. But I don't know really how it works. The guy in 4pad paid it via paypal.
The auth-flash- and msm download-program can only be started as admin and with deactivated virus scanner. For sure there are virus inside so made a full scan after you finished this procedure.

Seems hella sketchy... Btw I contacted Amazon and after some checks that the device was indeed not working they offered me a full refund!
Went to buy a new phone after that and had a few possibilities: OP9, ZenFone 8, Realme GT...
But after this sh*t happened with an official OTA update I literally noped it from the list... Went with Z8.
Good luck to you guys.

Hi Windigo,
I appreciate you sharing the methodology you used to unbrick your phone. I am unable to locate the files that are required for download or the MSM download tool. The instructions are quite difficult to follow.
Thanks,

LET ME MAKE THIS VERY CLEAR - MOST OF YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO ACCESS DOWNLOAD MODE OR RECOVERY VIA HARDWARE BUTTONS....
BUT NEWER PHONES SEEM TO HAVE HARDWARE ACCESS DISABLED.. THIS IS A WORKAROUND FOR THESE LOCKED OUT PHONES...
THERE IS NOW A ODIN FLASHABLE FIX FOR H/W LOCKED PHONES
SEE THIS THREAD - THANK YOU untermensch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305
METHOD 1: ACCESSING DOWNLOADER/RECOVERY:
(if the following directions do not work... then your phone may be locked out from using hardware buttons to access downloader/recovery)
Download Mode:
With the phone powered off
Plug in the USB cable.
Turn the phone on it's side and use both thumbs to hold (left thumb) Vol Up and (right thumb) Vol Down
Press and hold the power button with your right index finger til you see "Virbant" release the power button and it should say Downloading.
Recovery Mode:
With the phone powered off
UnPlug the USB cable.
Turn the phone on it's side and use both thumbs to hold (left thumb) Vol Up and (right thumb) Vol Down
Press and hold the power button with your right index finger til you see "Virbant" release the power button and it should be on the recovery screen.
METHOD 2: STUCK AT VIBRANT SCREEN:
(and are not able to use vol+ vol- methods to access downloader/recovery)
You will need the samsung ADB drivers installed for your phone as well as ADB...
ACCESS DOWNLOAD MODE
1) remove back cover and take our sim card and sd-card.
2) take out the battery
3) hold ALL 3 buttons down at the same time. (Vol +, Vol -, Power)
4) while holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in
5) continue holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears... once it reappears, release all 3 buttons
6) Setup ODIN and get it all setup and ready... (if you are flashing your phone via odin)
6) now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable
7) open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type ADB REBOOT DOWNLOAD
8) Your phone will reboot into the download screen... go back to ODIN - A com port should now appear for your phone...
9) Click start and wait for your phone to do its thing
ACCESS STOCK RECOVERY
1) remove back cover and take our sim card and sd-card.
2) take out the battery
3) hold ALL 3 buttons down at the same time. (Vol +, Vol -, Power)
4) while holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in
5) continue holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears... once it reappears, release all 3 buttons
6) now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable
7) open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type ADB REBOOT RECOVERY
8) Your phone will reboot into the stock recovery and flash whatever update.zip you need
METHOD 3: STUCK AT PHONE ! COMPUTER:
Plug in the USB cable.
Turn the phone on it's side and use both thumbs to hold Vol Up and Vol Down
Press and hold the power button with your right index finger.
The screen will go black, continue holding.
The screen will come back on, you'll see the same Phone to Computer icon
Continue holding, the screen will go black
The screen will come back on, you should see "Vibrant" release the power button and you it should go into Downloading
METHOD 4: STUCK AT PHONE ! COMPUTER:
(and are not able to use vol+ vol- methods to access downloader/recovery)
CALL TMOBILE AND BEG FOR THEM TO REPLACE UR PHONE..
METHOD 5: ODIN ERROR - ODIN HANGTHANKS EUGENE363)
When you can't get into Download MOde....
assuming you just got a Hang in ODIN Flasher...
1. Un-plug usb from Phone ( But still plugged into the Computer )
2. Pull Battery
3. Let the Phone sit for 15 to 30 seconds
4. Plug in USB to Both Phone & PC if not already
5. Hold Both Volume Buttons
6. Put Battery in while still holding Volume Buttons.
My Phone is HW Locked as well, with a v1 board.
every-time I get odin hang, doing the above always results in letting me re-flash.
Interesting! I'll give it a try.
UPDATE: I have successfully reflashed my vibrant... now I will reinsert the SD card and SIM card... and back in business!!!
I am 100% positive my phone was a newer "locked" model... I was unable to access the downloader OR the stock recovery and out of frustration.. I figured out how to access ADB and reboot my phone into downloader or stock recovery!
Hope this works for everyone!
For those of you that just want to test this method out... it does not seem to work for me now that my phone boots past the vibrant screen.... this method only seems to work if you are STUCK at the vibrant screen...

Oh, I don't have the problem. I'm just thinking if this will work for it. This is the main reason why i'm not messing with different roms/firmware until i can figure out a sure way to get into download if anything would to go wrong. As of right now, i'm just rooted and running Vibrant6. Will not go any further until i figure out the download mode on these newer batch.

This actually does not work for me. I have to 1) Pull the battery to make sure the phone is off, 2) Put it back in, 3) plug into USB, and immediately press and hold vol up/down.
Or ADB Reboot Download, but only sometimes.

If you are about to immediately press and hold up/down you are clearly not using a locked phone... and believe me.. this method works.... i tested it out about 10 different times trying to make the how to as easy as possible... if you are STUCK at the vibrant screen... how were you accessing ADB?
LIKE I SAID... This seems to only work for phones that wont boot past the VIBRANT screen.. My phone is locked out of hardware access to downloading mode and recovery... If you arent locked out of hardware access... then this would be a pretty irrelevant GUIDE..
Here is what makes me believe I am locked out of hardware access... when I follow any of the tutorials on how to access download mode... my phone just flashes and goes back to the vibrant screen... or back to the battery.... it NEVER does anything else...
can anyone confirm that that is what happens with "locked" phones?
I have seen a few posts... in this thread as well as the general Q & A thread .. regarding people having this exact same problem... and having to take their phone back to t-mo to swap it out..
Heh seems like a lot of work. Here's what I normally do and always get into the desired mode.

With the phone powered off

Press and hold the power button with your right index finger til you see "Virbant" release the power button and it should be on the recovery screen.

Plug in the USB cable.

Yes... my method seems difficult... BUT IT IS ALSO FOR NEWER VIBRANT PHONES THAT CANNOT ACCESS DOWNLOAD OR RECOVERY VIA YOUR METHOD OR ANYONE ELSES METHOD... because t-moble disabled hardware access...
That is exactly what happens with my phone. Either reboots or goes to the battery screen.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well hopefully between your method and mine.... nobody should have a problem accessing the downloader.... I have tried your method about 15 times with zero success accessing downloader or recovery... and I am pretty savvy... not sure what the differences are between our phones...

I just got new Vibrant and everything works fine. No need for any of that.....just have to hold volume buttons and release power button at the exact specific time with usb pluged in, phone goes straght to download mode.
RIP vibrant
just tried this method, and it didn't work for me. My Vibrant has the phone-!-computer error and it's the newer phone that doesn't load to recovery/dl mode via hard keys. I so happened to be loading a rom using odin and unplugged it because the process didn't show a status bar, it basically sat there doing nothing. Once i unplugged the phone it showed nothing but that error message on power up, hardreboot, charging ect. Thanks, tmo for locking hardkey recovery mode =(

had this happen twice and those steps worked for me both times:
"have your usb in, press down both the volume up/down toggle and the power button.... hold them until the screen goes black and as soon as it does, let go only the power button and it should appear there again
however, i found out that you need to take out the battery and get into download mode freshly again...."

This is exactly what I do on my phone. Actually had to do all three of this last weekend when I made a bonehead move and damn near bricked my phone. ODIN and Titanium backup saved my bacon.
I still do not fully understand this whole disabled recovery access thing. Has Samsung acknowledged it as a bug or a new permanent change? I heard they were going to fix it in the Froyo release?
I am unsure of what phones are locked and which ones arent... its kind of weird that some phones are locked out... my question for Eugene or JAC...
Is it possible to take an unlocked phone... and flash everything over to a locked phone... "unlocking it" so that the hardware buttons work?
and by unlocked I mean... able to access downloader/recovery via hardware buttons...
Those of you that ended up on the Phone ! Computer screen... if your phone is hardware locked... you are screwed... the method I originally posted only works if your phone will at least boot to the Vibrant screen (and have a hardware locked phone)
If your phone is not hardware locked... you can follow the millions of posts telling you how they access download mode... no need to follow my guide
Recently, I bricked my phone due to the hardware recovery/download feature being disabled.
Sitting here waiting (for 3 days) for the prepaid UPS return sticker from TMo I had a thought...
What if TMo/Samsung did not actually lock some of these phones down.
Follow along...
In the past, every single phone that I have ever owned would power up via USB connection (from the wall) even if the battery was not installed.
Tonight I noticed that my Vibrant will not power up unless the battery is installed.
USB (from PC) - Battery = No Power
USB (from wall) - Battery = No Power
Battery +/- USB (any) = Phone--!--PC icon
If someone who has a fully functional Vibrant (hardware recovery/download feature works) could try this out?
I'm curious to see if this is a possible pattern...
People keep saying to hold power in some way or another to get to download mode... You dont need to ever touch the power button!
Turn phone off, plug usb into computer, hold both volume buttons in and plug usb into phone. It will instantly go into download mode.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G Hard bricked?

I've tried to put a new ROM using Clockwork Recovery 6.0.1.2, during process it stuck for 4 hours and was turned off by power button.
After that tab don't react on power button, on pwr+vol up, pwr+vol down, pwr+ both vol buttons, nothing.
It even doesn't show battery icon when charging - screen is always black.
Any advices?
Thanks in advance.
I think the method described here will do the trick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478361
kallt_kaffe is having the same problem and he describes the procedure as: "basically tape down the power button to force a reboot cycle."

1. Put on your computer headphones and turn the volume up.
2. Plug your tablet into your computer via USB.
3. Hold the power button & Vol - keys together (Volume - is the side that is closest to the power button)
4. Listen for the "USB device connected" or "USB device disconnected" sound on your PC
5. If you can hear that, something has gone bad within the bootloader and the display does not initialize properly. Edit: The ICS installation does indeed attempt to patch the bootloader
6. If there is no sound, then the tablet is stuck in limbo, so go ahead and do the battery drain procedure as described in the above post.
7. If, however, your computer detects a device connecting and makes the sound, you can most likely still enter Download mode. You will have to do it blindfolded though:
-open ODIN 1.85 and see if it shows a connected device. If your PC made a connected sound, then there will most likely be a yellow COM port in ODIN.
- Hold [Power] & [Volume Down] together for 15 seconds or longer whilst monitoring your Device Manager windows to see if you can get the tablet out of APX mode and have it appear as another type of Device. Then press Volume+ several times with 1.5 sec. intervals. With luck, this should get you into Download mode, and ODIN will shine yellow for you.
- While doing all of the above keep your headphones on and listen for connected or disconnected sounds from your PC.
- Make sure you have this firmware for the P7300 which contains a bootloader, which is essential: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162686792/c693269/P7300ZSKK2_P7300ZZHKK2_TGY.zip.html
- Flash with "Bootloader update" checked in ODIN and see if device is resuscitated. If the tablet boots, it will be in Hong-Kongish, but just select a language you recognize from the dropdown, it has them all.
- It may be a good idea to also throw in a .pit file and check Repartiton
N.B. The firmware link that I have provided is for the Tab 8.9 3G P7300 only! Do not flash it on another version of the 8.9!
You will need to search for a firmware that contains a bootloader.bin.md5 file for your tablet model.
Again, all of this will only be possible if the device registers with your PC on connecting the USB cable.

6. If there is no sound, then the tablet is stuck in limbo, so go ahead and do the battery drain procedure as described in the above post.

Ok, I've disassembled the device, and removed a battery connector for a time.
Didn't help though.
When I'm connecting tab to PC and holding pwr+vol_down, I hear that connect-disconnect sound and there is a device called
NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices blinking in Device Manager with those sounds.
Odin shows no yellow com, all are empty, so download mode is not available.
you are stuck in APX mode , First go to this link and follow the instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130574]
if you get this in nvflash :
Nvflash started
rcm version 0X4
Command send failed (usb write failed)
this means your device is locked and the battery draining is that last thing that might work for you .
i still didn't try it, but i only disconnected the battery and connect it again but my device still dead for a month now .

I'm getting exactly what you posted:

rcm version 0X4

and right after that tab disconnects from pc and disappear from devices list.
is it possible, that some Samsung Service Center will help me? I think that what I did voids the warranty, but anyway, I'm in Ukraine and getting official support here is almost mission impossible.

unfortunately the sbk (secure boot key) for locked Samsung devices is unknown and i was hoping that someone will be able to provide it since it's now increasing problem for 8.9 and 10.1 tabs especially after ics update . actually this is well known mode(apx) with all Nvidia Tegra devices such as acer a100 tablet and asus transformer ee pad but developers there were able to find the sbk for these devices .
if you are covered by warranty and the battery drain method didn't solve the problem you should go to Samsung and good luck . i am not covered by warranty and the only solution i found after connecting Samsung here in Egypt is replacing the mainboard costing almost as a new device (even Samsung couldn't fix it) .

Sounds like they want to get your cash.
If things went to sh*t software-wise, they can be fixed the same way.
They could just UART into the board and restore the bootloader. I don't have to expertise to do it, but they should have it.

But nothing happend when i try to enter Download mode.
USB Disconnect > Connect > Pressing power and vol button for ~7 seconds (why 15+?.. So 15 i tried too) > Sound > Pressing V+ 10 times... Nothing glows in Odin.

I had a broken bootloader and my display was dead the same way all of youse with bricked tabs describe.
It appears that in your case the bootloader is so badly messed up, that a fail-safe kicks in and sends the tab into APX mode directly.
Consider disassembling your device to disconnect the battery, press Power a few times with ti disconnected and keep it disconnected for a minute or so to force discharge of all capacitors, then reconnecting and attempting a reboot.
Disassembly is really easy - get a plastic knife and stick it under the display near the charging port and work your way around the whole unit. The entire display comes out of the back cover. Flip the display around and there you will notice where the battery connects to the main board, unplug the connector.
Have you tried?
And wut i must do after that?

Disassemble, disconnect battery, press power, short + and - (on device, not on battery lol)... After that connect battery and connect via usb ... the same. cant enter download menu.(

Nah. Samsung service sucks.
They said that motherboard should be replaced.
I don't understand how software problem couldn't be fixed w/o hardware replacement.
Screw that, I'll go get Nexus 7.

Navagation Bar freezing

I am on pie stable and since "updating" every now and then when using an app the nav bar just does not respond. The rest of the screen is ok but cant get back to the nav bar to move things.
I have tried going into setting during the freeze to change to gestures but this does nothing.
Is this a Pie glitch or something with certain apps.
Saw a screen freeze thread but that had gone on to talk about battery things.
The same happen here sometimes...
Me too... Really annoying. (I concluded that leaving certain apps open are NOT the problem, happens on home screen too)
I have the same problem and is awaiting Nokias help desks response...
Have any of you solved this problem?
Purchased my Nokia 7 Plus in mediamarkt.de last week, so it's brand new. This crap bothers me though and it's my 3rd Nokia in a year. Has HMD turned Nokia into ****?

When it happens go into settings -> system-> about phone. That wakes up the navbar, but it will probably freeze again at some point.
I also have this since a few weeks (siince the update to pie).
Already tried Factory Reset and on advice of Nokia i tried Safe mode, but the last was a problem for me.
You only get real androidone, with only google apps.
So my token app (multifactor authentication for work and for private) where not available, just liek a few other needed apps.
I had to reboot again to go back to normal.
Now i have cleared the cache via a fastboot option, but did that this evening, so i have to wait again for locking up.
For others who want to try:
* Safe mode: Press power button until you see the power menu.
Press AND HOLD for 2 seconds the button Power Off and the system wil reboot to Safe mode
* Clear cache (it sounds strange, but seems to work):
1) Turn off the device
2) connect it to a power source using the original charger
3) Press and hold both power key and volume up key
4) When the android logo pop up, release the power key (keep holding the volume up key)
5) when the android alien laying of the floor appear release the volume key up
6) hold the power key and press one time the volume up key
7) use the volume keys to navigate and power key to select
8) select*run graphic test*-> yes
9) select reboot system now. Verify if it works properly.
During the clear cache actions, i got an error first, but the system then did the update again and worked (whatever update it was).

After using the phone for 48 hours now, without any problems with the button bar, i suppose that above actions did really solve this problem.
I can advise anyone with this problem, to try this solution (clear cache via Graphics test)
New Info:
Really to bad, 24 hours after writing the above, the button bar got stuck again.
But i could get it free via System Settings -> System -> About Phone
As told by another person in this thread.
I really thought the problem was gone.
Already informed Nokia/HMD Global about this.

[SM-T510/T515] 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Hard Resets

Here's a quick reference for how to reboot and reset your 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (SM-T510/T515) using the hardware buttons:
Force restart:
- If your device is frozen and unresponsive, press and hold the Volume Down + Power keys simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it.
Boot to Recovery Mode:
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the Volume Up + Power keys at the same time.
- Release both keys when you see Recovery Mode.
Boot to Download Mode:
- Disconnect the USB cable
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the Volume Down + Volume Up keys
- Insert the USB cable
Boot to Safe Mode:
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the Power key.
- When the boot logo appears, release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume Down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe Mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Since there is no Bixby button, these combinations are different than the Galaxy S10. If you know of additional combinations, please contribute to the discussion below and I'll consolidate here.
If there’s no response on your device or you're stuck in a boot loop, then you might need to wait for the battery to drain. The 2019 Galaxy Tab A 10.1 has a non-removable battery pack, so disconnecting that isn't an option. Hopefully, the system reverts to its normal function with a cold boot. This can take time if the battery has high charge left at time of failure. Depending on how fast your battery drains, this can mean waiting for a few hours to several days.
UPDATE: With the right timing, you can break out of a boot loop into Download Mode...but it's tricky:
Insert USB Type C cable connected to your PC
Press and hold the Power and Volume Down keys for exactly 7 seconds (hard reset)
Release the Power key and press and hold both Volume Up & Down keys (enter Download Mode)
If you don't see the blue bootloader unlock warning screen, keep repeating the above two steps
The trick here is that you're trying to time your switch to the Download Mode keys for the exact moment the hard reset takes effect. If you see the boot logo while still holding the first key combination, it's too late. If you switch too early, you won't trigger the hard reset.
I've had to hold down both volume up and volume down while plugging in usb to get the unlock screen to populate. Canadian Wifi variant.

Thanks, that was an error in my initial post. I was figuring these out by trial and error, but it turns out that our hard resets are basically the same as for the Galaxy M30, which also uses the Exynos 7904 SoC and has no Bixby key.
https://www.hardreset.info/devices/samsung/samsung-galaxy-m30/download-mode/
UPDATE: Also the same as for the Galaxy A30 and some others.

Yes, I did the same way
US version
1. Enable OEM Unlock
2. Turn the tablet off and unplug the cable
3. Press and hold both volume up and volume down buttons and plug USB cable to host computer
4. You will get wipe screen. Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader.
Now I have to find matching ROM and patch the boot.img and flash.
I believe you have to disable Vault Keeper to keep root intact.

1. should I buy another one? Or
2. should I buy a different phone?
3. What are your suggestions?
EDIT: My phone is back on. I don't know what turned it off in the first place. Power button didn't work (short or long press). Fastboot mode (button combination) didn't work.
FIX: Hard (ware) Restart - Hold down Volume up, volume down, and power simultaneously for about a 15 count. Screen came back on ?
Thank you all for your feedback
Just happened to mine too. why did it do that. did your ever do that again?
It happened to mine Saturday night, I pressed the UP + POWER button and came back on, probably a sw glitch, I had put AUTO UPDATE on, I turned it off.
Thanks 4 the heads up save me from having to send it off to get it fixed.
same thing just happened to my phone, holding both up and down plus power button for 15 seconds got it back up, what caused this?
Phone didn't even want to charge when it was off. or connect to pc

Try connecting the phone to a PC through the side port. While connected, hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Do you hear a sound from the PC like it's disconnecting from USB and then connecting again after a couple of seconds? If so, let me know and I will put together some instructions, as I have just got mine sorted from this scenario.

If you can connect through fastboot, I suggest downloading a RAW version and reflashing using that one, as it's the easiest approach. If you can't connect through fastboot (the "fastboot devices" command doesn't return any devices), try the following:
1. Download this file. It contains the firmware images and some utilities, which we'll need to use.
2. Extract the zipped folder wherever you want on your PC.
3. Download and install the Qualcomm_QDLoader_HS-USB_Driver_64bit_Setup.zip from here. You should be asked to reboot, but if you are not, you'll need to reboot.
4. Open the XiaoMiFlash.exe tool and use the Select button to select the "images" folder that you extracted.
5. Make sure that your phone appears in the list underneath and shows up as being in Download Mode. If not, try using the "refresh" button until the phone appears. If the phone doesn't appear to be in Download Mode, try holding the power button, while the phone is still connected to the PC, until you hear it disconnect the USB and then reconnect - this should put the phone in Download Mode.
6. Click on the "flash" button and let the process finish. You will know that it progresses, as it starts pretty quickly to flash images one by one. If the flashing doesn't start, try rebooting and retrying and if this doesn't work, reinstall the Qualcomm drivers and try again.
7. If the flashing status shows as complete, hold the volume up, volume down and power buttons (yes, all 3) until the phone shuts down.
8. Hold the volume up and power buttons pressed, so that the phone starts to the bootloader, then use the volume rocker to scroll to the "recovery" option and select it with the power button.
9. When in Recovery mode, use the volume rocker to scroll to the "wipe data" option and select it with the power button.
10. Select "reboot system" once the wiping is done.
This should be it. Let me know if something doesn't work.

It's enough to press the power button to get it to reboot, there should be no need to press all of them. I've just posted another reply on this thread with some instructions. See if those help you get it back and let me know if you need any help.

I've just received a PM from someone saying that this helped and I wanted to give credit to the thread from which I got the solution:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/how-to/repair-rog2-phone-edl-modeofficial-t4012175/amp/
The solution from that thread didn't really fit my situation, hence why I changed the steps a bit. Maybe that solution helps someone else.
When i try this method, it flashes the first part (i get a green bar) and then has an error directly after that.
From looking at the XiaomiFlash logs, "set boot partition failed"

Try connecting the phone to a PC through the side port. While connected, hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Do you hear a sound from the PC like it's disconnecting from USB and then connecting again after a couple of seconds? If so, let me know and I will put together some instructions, as I have just got mine sorted from this scenario.
