Speaker only playing some sounds

Hey Folks
I had the issue with my usb charging port "Charging paused voltage too high" Issue was due to a defective usb port so I changed it as advised by this thread.

That has fixed my usb issue however after putting it back together I noticed the speaker doesn't play all sounds. I can hear the bootup sound fine but when I do anything else on the phone such as set alarms, play mp3s etc. I don't hear anything. When I turn the volume up and down I only hear a faint clicking noise (not the real volume rocker sound) Speaker was fine before I disassembled. Any idea on what I can try? Did I damage my speaker? Don't really want to buy a new speaker unless I really have to.

As you have already disassembled the phone I am not sure whether you did a damage or not. But you can try flashing stock rom again and see if the problem still persists. If it does then it must be hardware fault. Try changing it carefully or get a technician

I don't think I broke anything since when I put back in the old usb charging connector the sound works fine. I wonder if this new usb charging connector I ordered off ebay is defective :S

Charging is nothing to do with it. Flashing a stock rom or custom rom will test it for you whether its a software fault or a hardware fault..

I did flash to stock. As I said when I use my original charging connector sound is fine, when I put in this new one

Yeah I was just wondering if I missed a step in terms of reconnecting the speaker. I will email the seller to get it exchanged. Sucks though as my original charging connector is still giving me the "charging paused message" and it says "charging" even when I unplug my phone :s

Not sure how it happen, Just buy from a guy in Craigslist and find out it have no sound.
No sound at all ( that mean when turn on no sound, using the phone no sound, call no sound - the call app freeze or foreclose when call), YouTube foreclose when I hit play, sound recorder foreclose when I hit record ( look like any apps touch to the sound thing will foreclose when run)

I ask the guy and he said the phone got like this because last update. Hard to believe ppl on CL but I have seen some phone lost sound because update too.
Serial number was null before, I have try to flash a new EFS and I get SN back.

Second, if It got water damage why all the apps utilize sound fail? Maybe only one speaker or microphone fail when they get wet?

One way is trying another Motherboard or its the speaker and Microphone damage, you can try changing the Speaker and Mic to see it that works or get another MB.

Did you do a full odin to stock? Like completely wipe everything

Did you test the phone before you bought it?

Have you tried using a Bluetooth or wired headphone? If the previous owner used a cheap wired headphone and the tip of the headphone broke inside of the jack. Software on the phone is going to redirect all audio and mic to the headset jack. With no headset present it would render the internal microphone and internal speakers useless

I did full Odin flash but no luck. But maybe have to supper wipe? Do you know anyway can completely wipe the phone and install new firmware?

The problem is the recorder app foreclose when I hit record. and any other app use sound like youtube will foreclose when I hit play too

There is no tip of headphone jack inside the phone, I tried with good headphone but no luck too.
All of the app use sound will foreclose when I hit play and sound recorder foreclose when I hit record

try downloading a mixer_paths.xml file it worked for me before,if you can't find the file for some reason i can e-mail it to you

I will try the "mixer_paths.xml" when I get home. I'm in business trip until middle of this month. Thank you guys for great help.

The phone turn out is hardware issue. There is a small corrosion on the board.
Anyone in here offer anything for it before I sell it on ebay?

How to force audio to play with front speaker?

As the title saids. The reason to do so is my phone "thinks" that an earphone is connected, but there's actually no earphone connected. Now all the audio are played with the "earphone that doesn't exist", that means the speaker won't play anything other than alarms.
I searched for solution, and found an app called "headset toggle" on Google Play. It allowed me to play music with the back speaker, but that's useless. What annoys me is that when I receive a phone call, the audio is also played with the "earphone that doesn't exist". I wonder if anyone knows how to force the audio in phone calls to play with front speaker.
Btw I'm using cm12.1, so I do have root. I've also tried flashing different roms, even stock rom to see if it's a software issue, unfortunately it's not.
Also I've found a "front speaker only mod" here but the download link is broken. If anyone have downloaded it before can you share a copy to me?

Thanks for the reply. I tried that app, it did what I want to do but it requires a ram consumpting background service. Please tell me if there's any other methods that doesn't require a background service. Thank you!:fingers-crossed:

If i were you should buy earpiece jack i think. Mine was broken too and i live with that broken jack for 1month and ordered a new jack, repaired it and everything is working like charm. Still using it about 7 months and no problem.
Its so cheap on Aliexpress.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I wanted to see if there's any software that allows me to switch between earphone and speaker mode. The phone could still play sounds through earphone after I plug one in, but it thought I still have an earphone connected after I remove the earphone.
Didn't quite understand what's an "earpiece jack" btw. Did you replace the whole earpiece of the phone?

I totally understand your problem, it is the same problem happened to me
I suggest you because it's so easy to change the jack-port (whatever means lol).

Recently I encountered a problem in my Xperia SP.
There is a headphone icon shown in the status bar but I didn't connect any headphones and the speakers don't work too :crying:
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem? What is the solution?

It's a common problem with XSP headphone's socket, and to solve this simply play any sound file then keep plug and unplug the headphone jack till you hear sound from the loud speaker.

It works but it again occurs after plugging and unplugging the headphone or when I restart my phone.

Seems like a software issue. Try this app SoundAbout from google store. For me i wasnt getting any sound from earpiece and from back speaker as well. But while playing with the sound settings, i got the sound working on m back speaker. And with a little bit of searching on the net, i found a post where it mentioned to use to check the sound getting redirected to speaker or the earpiece. I checked with the app, and now i can hear from the earpiece as well as from speaker. May be the software or the firmware is corrupted. One of my friend works in the sony center and he told me that first they check it with xperia companion repair option. Else they use different software to erase all and reinstall like the factory. I dont know if it is true but thats why they charge hefty. Anyways try the app SoundAbout, and mess me if it works.

I could hear the music from my speaker. Thanks a lot. Still, it was showing headset icon in the status bar but no worries now I can change the source from within the app. Thanks for saving me some bucks! :good:
I think there is some problem in our headphone jack bcoz I did a factory reset and changed the ROM twice but still the problem persists. It must be some hardware defect in the jack.

Well actually there is a problem with the headset jack but hey atleast the earpiece is working :good::laugh: and speaker too. It's quite a hassle to change the setting now on then, but I hope it's OK with you

Speaker and Earpiece No Sound Issue

Hello developers around XDA...I got a issue of no sound from earpiece and speaker on my Sony Xperia ZR device since when I was on stock rom. later I decide to switch from stock to custom rom to solve this issue but unfortunately it wasn't work. I wonder about many people are still facing same issue on different devices even in Google premium phone Pixel XL 2. I am finding answer online about the cause and many people have told headjack faulty which prevent to route audio on speaker and Earpiece. I am finding solution to get it fix from system root path or any code edit in root path without use of third party app like sound about or audio router.
So I need developers to look into issue on how to route audio without app permanently. Any fix from developers would be appreciated and ready to test on device.

I know about " Sound about" and "Audio Router" app. But my concern is to fix this issue without app by ROM. How soundabout app works to route audio by blocking headset which Android see as plug-in. That trick should be in ROM in the form of switcher inbuilt in Android settings.

Hi! I started to have the same problem few months ago. I was on stock lollipop. So I figured I flash LineageOS. It didn't help. I think it's a headphone jack fault. I've had this phone for four years and every day i listen music. I think headphone jack just wore out.
EDIT: I changed my display two years ago. Had water damage (seawater). I think the headphone jack thing, may come from that too.

This problem started to me when I was on lollipop Sony stock rom so I decide to switch to Lineage or other ROM but issue wasn't solved. I use soundabout which relieve me from this issue but as you told it might be headphone jack problem..it's seems to be doubt because other devices from legacy till Pixel XL 2 owner facing same issue even they didn't use headphone daily. So may be it's a issue related to Sound certificate/license expiry for legacy device...

I know the problem & the solution.
Problem: Only Media Tones (Loudspeaker / Music / In-Call audio) is broken.
That is because the headphone jack is loosened. The correct way to solve the problem is to plug a headphone jack (I used 3 pole) and properly unplug the jack while playing a song.
Check for audio again, plug / unplug until you can listen to the music by speaker.
Another way is to use log cat and look exactly where it is stuck after plugging & unplugging.
I encountered this after plugging audio cable to my car. Unfortunately, I cannot plug it in again because it is too loose to be usable and might permanently fell into headphone jack attached mode.

thanks have the same issue cant hear via headphone, sometimes no sound fron speakers but have to use 3rd party apps to play via spearkers,, will buy that kit

Hi all. Ordered my replacement what @Daedroza recommended. Changed it (wasn't that hard). Today i started testing. Have had few calls and everything seems ok. I'll test it a couple of days and report back.

how did Y do that? screen must be released?
