I'm running the latest version of SlimLP on 5.1.1. The issue also happens on stock firmware too. Here are the problems:
1. The speaker doesn't work, except extremely rare circumstances when I hear a notification, usually from FB Messenger.
2. The microphone doesn't pick my voice up during calls, forcing me to use an integrated mic on headphones or loudspeaker.
3. The earspeaker doesn't seem to work.
4. When I record video or something, the sound is picked up, so obviously the microphone is still functional.
I've used the Xperia diagnostics app, and the microphone isn't deemed functional on that, the ear speaker doesn't work at all, but the loudspeaker works perfectly fine. I really don't know what to do. I don't think this is a hardware issue with any of them except the earspeaker. Anyone know fixes? I've tried pressing down on the areas but that doesn't seem to have an effect.

I also had a similar issue on another Xperia and I simply changed my firmware. Most likely I must have downgraded it. However, there is an app called SOUND ABOUT
That should fix the sound problems. Quote back in case you expect a reply!

I've tried the app before, it didn't work, now it does! Thank God, I'm pretty damn happy about this. Bought the pro licence.
When I plug my headphones in however, sound keeps coming out the normal speaker, rather then the headphones. Hmm.

Trust me this is a pure software issue. I had such problems with my device once. Sometimes plugging in and plugging out head phones a few times fixes it as well.
Have you tried going back to stock ?

I Soundabout app iniataliert but after the single pair hours it does not work .
I have android 5.1.1,6 , existence , attempts cyanogen .

Hello, I'm having two separate issues with calls on stock ROM 4.1.3.
The first issue is during calls on speaker phone. The phone uses the back mic next to the camera which makes the audio really muffled and hard to hear for the other person to the point where it's impossible to have a normal conversation. I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended, is there any way to change this?
The second issue is that the microphone doesn't seem to work when I plug in a headset. The headset I'm using is a degrauss labs sabotage royale and it works fine on other phones.
The apps I've been testing this in is Skype, WhatsApp and Messenger. Any ideas? These issues almost forces me to return the phone even though I love the rest of it
help,
all of a sudden my mic on the phone is crap, i havnt droped it on the floor or anythiing like that.
but today it startet to make a very loud noise so the reciever of call couldnt hear a thing, tryed to restart the phone, it helped but only briefly,
is it a general problem?
or im just unlucky
regards
Hey man,
I just registered to say that I have the same problem. I own Nokia 8 and sometimes when I call with people they cant hear me at all or they can but they hear a loud noise. It looks like it is randomly occuring, I can call the same person 5 minutes later and they can hear me loud and clear all of a sudden.
Its very strange I think its the problem with microphone and I think its software related because I believe camera is using the same microphone for recording and that seems to be fine whenever I record a video.
Messenger/Viber/Whatsapp voice messages doesnt work sometimes tho so its linked. Hopefully this can be solved with via future updates but we should let Nokia know so they can sort this out.

Well in my case its much worse, I bought it from a guy who won it in a Facebook contest from Nokia that was held back in September I think. I am not sure if warranty applies to my phone, I hope so. But even if it did I would have to send it to UK and I am from different country

Tell them that it might be a software issue on Nokia end so I dont think they can do anything with it other than give you a new device.
same here
I found the same here. It is like interference. Since there are 3 mics, is it possible to disable one for testing?
Same here, happened today for the second time! BT and speakerphone modes are not affected, and only calls are affected - recording through an app does not produce the same issue. It's like someone is blowing air with full force into the mic!

Exactly like you describe, blowing air with full force into the mic.
But recently the problem somehow stopped and the mic is working BUT he audio is still damaged I believe because when I record a video there is interference in the background and no way its the same quality as advertised with OZO audio.
I also noticed that it stopped working after CHARGING the phone everytime, so I had to restart it after every charge, so maybe problem with electricty damaging the microphone ?

I have no idea what to do, will have to trash the phone for something else. It's still not working after hours of troubleshooting.
I managed to restore the mic functionality by entering safe mode (by pressing volume down during power up). We'll see how long will it last.
It's back. Nokia never again.

Nokia 8 Oreo. EDIT Ok found the thread - it Was specifically about Receiving calls, but might apply.
SEARCH xda nokia 8 questions & answers speakerphone
First question was 12 march 2018
Possible solutions:- 1 Full factory reset, setup Google account, don't install apps and Try it to see if solved.
2 Use Macrodroid app to turn off speakerphone 1 to 2 seconds into call (wow great app)
3 Press speakerphone icon twice at start of each call
4 Oreo 8.1 seems to have the problem less
Hope This Helps
I think I have solved this problem with my Nokia 8 which had been persistent for the last week.
I just took a household vacuum cleaner and cleaned out all the microphone slots and bingo the problem was solved!
Unfortunately I can't log in to the Nokia community forum to post there, I just get three endlessly pulsating dots, so if anyone can copy and paste this post over there it would be great.
Bad Mike.
I faced the same after last security upgrade. Today it became an issue for ANY call. And nothing I tried/found helped. (Soft resets, charging, Safe mode). Nokia 8 just generated noise like I would be staying on windy hill.
I've contacted Nokia via the Care app. It tooke ONE HOUR but in the end the operator helped me and I hope I've explained they should at least respond on their forum when the issue is reported almost a year. And their developers should know about issue that prevents using of phone for calling.
So the what worked for me part of answer:
- Settings>>Apps¬if>>See all apps>>Phone>>Storage>>Clear cache and Clear data
- Settings>>Apps¬if>>See all apps>>Carrier Services>>Storage>>Clear cache and Clear data
- perform soft restart (Power + Up buttons for 10 secs untill you see powered by Android)
Even before performing of the soft restart it worked again but it should be better to make it as well.
The microphone problem happened to me for the second time yesterday in a couple months. I tried the following, and it did NOT help. That said, the microphone returned to normal later in the day - it seemed to coincide with battery saver kicking as the battery become low.
I wish it would fail hard, so at least I can easily warranty the phone. At present, just when I give up and think about claiming warranty, the phone works again.

I am having problem with recording voice message with WhatsApp and any other voice recording apps.
I did everything and Nokia support member said it can be because of last security patch.
I can make calls and no problem but when I wanted to send voice message no success.
Please help me
Mine has been having the same problem for about a month now, had to start using my earphones for calls.
Using Google camera to record the audio is perfectly find, but stock camera and dialer have this noise.
None of the above has helped.
Considering sending it to the Nokia phone repair?
Edited to provide additional details.
---------------------------------------
Hey guys, tonight I noticed that the audio on my (stock ROM) Nexus 6 quit working. Sort of.
Bluetooth seems to work fine. Speakers plugged into headphone jack are fine. Regular media (music, navigation, Youtube app, etc.) or regular phone call at my ear, I get no audio.
BUT IF I turn on speakerphone then I have audio. The ringer works normally, the alarm works, the countdown timer alarm works.... basically anything designed to be LOUD works.
Also, strangely, if I'm not on speakerphone then the phone mic doesn't work either, which means no dictating text messages or anything like that.
What gives? My 1 year-old did SPLASH the phone earlier while playing with it near the dog dish, but I thought these things were splashproof. (?) Also, if I killed the mic hardware then I would think it'd be dead all the time, and not work on speakerphone.
Repeated reboots have not helped. The problem persists in safe mode. Did he somehow kill a speaker-mic combo? If so, which part do I need? (I've had this thing open twice before, it's not too bad.)
Thanks!
I have a recurring problem on my new Pixel 5, running on T-Mobile (but usually on wifi calling), running released OTA Android no mods or beta.
When I call out all works.
When an inbound call is received, when I answer normally (expecting to have audio in my ear on the handset speaker) I get silence. Not low volume, silence. The calling party hears me.
I can then switch to either a headset (USB) or the speakerphone and it works fine.
This is frequent but intermittent -- it does not happen every single call, but I cannot see a pattern.
Outbound calls work fine. It's not a broken speaker, it's a software issue.
Is anyone having similar issues? All the searching I do end up with broken speakers and similar, or no audio at all. This is specific to the handset only.
Any ideas?
Linwood
PS. I call it new, but this has gone on for about 3 months, so has persisted against the last 2 (at least) OTA updates.
My sister recently got a Pixel 5 and has had this issue. I also have a Pixel 5 and have not had this issue. We're both on t-mobile. Did this ever resolve? I advised her to switch to the esim, in case it was her sim card. Not sure if she's done it yet. Are you using a regular sim?
Actually I made progress.
First, it got worse, and I had no earpiece audio at all.
Then I called Google, planning a repair or see what they had, they had me put it in safe mode. It started working.
So I was then going to try one application after another to see which 3rd party app was breaking it and.... it never failed again.
So I have no idea. I have hardly any apps on the phone, certainly few that do audio. But in theory if it worked with safe mode but not without (and it would not work without even after a reboot), then it should have been a 3rd party app that did it. However, I've been out of safe mode for 3 weeks, did not uninstall anything, and it still works.
So... no idea. Some software glitch somewhere. Try safe mode.
