Retired tech guy with background in math, IT and education. Thing is, I can't sit back and do nothing, so I'm gonna try and do some development, if you guys can help me along.
Living in Tijauna and struggling with diabetes just for fun. Had 6 or 7 phones swiped along with everything else so for another 2 weeks I'm working with a Hyundai eternity g50, trying to root it. Want to run android 10 or higher if possible.

Back after moving house

Hi all,
It's been a hectic few weeks. I recently moved houses and was stuck without my DSL for what seemed like eternity. I'm back now (if anyone cares  ) and will try to help out once again on the forums.
I'm working on a user manual for the XDA Tools which I hope to release soon.
I'd also like to share with you guys how suddenly things can change. A colleague of mine from work died this morning when he smashed his Mustang into the guard rail of the highway he was driving on. He was 21. There he was speaking to me the day before, said 'See you tomorrow.' and now in a morgue. Kind of puts everything else into perspective.
Take care.
Sheran
Sorry to hear that. Life would be so much better if we treated everybody as if it was the last time we were ever going to see them, that way there would be fewer regrets when somebody does die.
Sorry to hear that.
If you follow rallying in America, or international maybe..
My Uncle Roger Freeman was killed in a rallying accident in America in July. Mark Lovell was driving the Subaru, which was competing in the Oregan Trails Rally. Cars are dangerous, there are no 2 ways about that.
The funeral's for Mark, and Roger were spectacular here in the UK. You just have to do these people proud when they have been taken away like this. Mark and Roger will be remembered forever in the rallying world.
My thoughts go out to the friends and family. Just remember the good times...
Best Regards, Martin Freeman

Going back to school

well im a full time welder and I've always liked my job But lately things have been going slow in my life and I feel like i'm just going nowhere in life.
I went to college coming out of high school and blew it off like an idiot. I've always been wanting to go back but I always feel like i'm setting myself up for failure and will just waste my time and money.
I'm 24 years old and now i'm at a point in my life where I have to start getting my **** together, but this welding job is just moving to slow for me.
for the past 3-4 years, I've been learning and working with computers. Im not a pro at it but I know more then the average person.
Well I've been doing a lot of thinking and its time I go back to school to improve my life. i want to get more into the computer world and chase a computer science degree. My question to you guys is, where should I start? I know I need to look into schools, classes etc. what I mean is what can I start studying in the mean time (before I actually start my schooling) so that I can have a head start.

What kind of thing do you want to do with computers? Hardware, software, app development, web development, game development, db admin, network admin? There's loads of routes to go down, all dependant on what you want to do.
And if anyone recommends a programming language to you before you answer that question then they don't know what they're talking about. Either that, or they're just saying "this is what I know - look at me - aren't I clever?".
Im leaning toward network admin. Im planning to aign up fall or winter classes but I wanna study a bit before starting. My company will pay for the schooling depending on the grades.

Good for you man !!! Its never too late to do something.
Im also going back to college in september, Im 22 with a fiance and child, But that aint stopping me !!
Hopefully looking to do a course on Programming and Software Development
I'm trying to learn Python. I think I can get the hang of it before school starts again in September.

I can't advise you on the network admin side of things, other than you'll need a good degree to get a decent job, or start really at the bottom and work your way up slowly. It's quite a well-educated field, for real pros. There's plenty of hack and slash network admins out there, but they're the type that bring networks down by saying "I wonder what that does!" (I've worked with some of them before )

Respect man. I think it gets harder once you have a family. I got a nice girl now and been thinking about settling down but the thought of not being able to provide is the only thing stopping me.

Well my plan is to use my company To pay for my school and at the.same time switch over to the I.T department (which will be no problem). That way I can be hands on while im learning. After im finished, I should have enough.experience to move up, weather its in this company or somewhere else.

Good luck

W!LßSO @ XDA
Absolutely, good luck with it. I was 22 before I got a qualification in programming, despite developing software since the age of 8. No-one would give me a job without it, so I did a course, got the paper and got a job. Been doing it ever since.
It's good to do something new and start over, as long as it's something you have a passion for.
I'm in medical school now, three years to graduation(but, I'll study another six years after that...). I have this friend, he's, I think over 30 years, and he's at the same "grade" as I am. He also was like you, had a "low-education"(help me here ) job, and then he decided to go into Med. I'm kinda proud of him, he's a good inspiration for people like you. It's a long way to become a doc, but it's never too late. I strongly recommend you to go to school, it'll be worth it!
All respect and luck shall be with you!
(I just realized my grammar sucks )
Yea man 24 is not late at all! Im a emt and a emergency medical flight dispatcher and when my girl gets done with school in like 3 semesers i think ima go back and be a game warden for the state of louisiana. She is 28 and im 34 and we have a two year old good luck man its worth it.

@Archer
my son will be graduating from HS, what's his best move to get into "Android Software Development"? you developed software at 8? how is that possible
tnx
Definitely check out the Community Colleges in your area, especially ones that have really good relationships with the better Engineering/Technical universities in your area. You will save yourself a ton doing your first two years there, and a lot of schools that will even let you get complete your four year degree through associated Community Colleges. You also get the benefit of smaller classes and professors that actually know your name.
I just finished my associates after going on and off forever so don't feel like you're outback because you've waited. Get it done man, you're still well ahead of the curve. If you want to start this fall though you need to go ahead and sign up.

Is it bad that I don't want to go to college? I'm a high honors student and everything but I don't know. My parents would hate me for this. After highschool I want to book a flight to some other part of the country. Maybe somewhere in California? Find an okay job and a little apartment. Buy myself a comfy couch and live alone and sit and soak in life. It's all I want I guess... But I get it you guys are motivated by things like your own family and stuff. I'd love to find someone but I know that probably won't happen because of the person I am. So I have no need to have a lot of money or be rich at all like most people. Just enough to get by and maybe occasionally buy a game or phone or something haha.

Most apartments and stuff in my particular area are about 300 to 400 a month which isn't too bad for a decent place. But im in a small town, now if I was to drive about 15 minutes to the next town they can be around 700 to 1200 a month
Im a special case however the place I got me and the roommate own the property and the house, so we only have to pay utilities and bills.

Drop in, introduce yourself, post pictures, ask dumb questions, talk, tease, chill out.
In memory of the beloved RC, @simms22 .
We've needed a thread like this ever since everyone wanted to constantly complain and nitpick (iPhone this, jelly that, etc). Cool.
Yep.
Stressed out and back home after a day's work. Was looking for a thread like this and found none. Nexus forums have a lot of these. At least when I used to own Nexus.
So thought I'd go ahead and create one cos I know we've got a lot of users.
All the negativity around here made me second guess my purchase a little and didn't have a single problem with my phone ?
Great thread!

Stock for the foreseeable future. When I finally get to the point where I unlock, I'll probably be on an OOS based ROM. OOS is just so good. Plus it'll probably take awhile for aftermarket ROMs to get the dual camera working 100%.

Should be getting my device today and I am excited. First OnePlus deviice. Hopefully no issues for me, fingers crossed. Used to be a heavy Android user, lately iPhone user. Making the decision to become a programmer has me interested in Android again and to learn java programming language. I will probably skin some things for this phone and maybe otthers if I pick up more Android phones, hell maybe build some roms in the near future.
bad night at work, mainly fixing others peoples f--- ups and sovling issues. I don't go back to work till Monday....... so fishing, gaming, messing with this phone (if no issues are found), birthday party, chilling with my daughters, school work, and swimming. Might be off work, but probably not much rest lol. :highfive:

Nice. I think you'll love the device.
Tip: Just don't bother with the negativity in the forum, the YouTube videos and news articles. Needless to say, I've seen people *****ing about the device every which way. This phone has been great for me, I've seen zero issues so far. I got it during the preorder sale.
This is my first oneplus device too. Oneplus has come a long distance from being "just another cheap Chinese phone", when I was skeptical about it, to creating a name in the smartphone industry.
I have been a Nexus fanatic since the nexus 4 but I don't think they are worth the price tag anymore.
I kinda started out like you, interested in Android, started off learning Java, building roms for the Nexus 4 ( I was on a team that built roms called Euphoria OS, now defunct). Then, as everyone lost interest, I shifted to making money out of coding skills. Built a couple of Android apps. Now I also do Python and JavaScript mainly. Its been a fun ride, never regretted my decision.

Bewildered beginner here to learn from the winners...

I wish I could list even one awesome coding skill to contribute to XDA, but the truth is the other way around - it's the developers here who've been contributing to me for the past several years as I've struggled to navigate the ever-winding road of Android. I came here completely green, not a single line of code to call mine, and had to look up every other word in the posts, only to have to look up the words in the definitions as well.
I remember that time very well, as I was armed with the new Nexus 5 Hammerhead running KitKat 4.4.4, and all I wanted to do more than anything in the world was this really cool thing I'd heard about called 'rooting.' Didn't even know what I could do with a rooted phone back then, especially since it was my very first smartphone. And somehow, some way, with the help of the posts here on XDA, I managed to gain root privileges on my first try. Bragging rights? Nah. Not until it's revealed that it only took me 3 weeks of delving my phone's deepest corners before finally discovering this amazing secret where anything I deleted instead got doubled, which allowed me to finally achieve the world record of filling up a phone's memory with useless data faster than The Competitor could get hit with planned obsolescence lawsuits. Now that's fast, indeed.
On a more serious note, there has actually been one question I've seen posted recently that I realized I could have easily helped someone with, had I an account here. Thus, what you see before you. Of course it will probably turn out to be the only question I'll come across here that I can answer, but someone needs me the way I've needed you and if I could help even just one person, then here I go...

welcome to XDA
Thank you, I mean it. (Bashfully looks down, hands clasped behind back, toeing ground...) This is the first time in my life I've ever signed up to be a part of something bigger than myself, there isn't a lot out there that can really keep drawing me back, time and time again. Now if I can just find that Thanks button I just read about, I won't have to take up so much space on the servers each time I want to show my gratitude.....

You actually made me laugh out loud with that one. Thanks I needed that! I'll certainly consider hitting you up the next time I need help, which is, on average, every 6.2 seconds. Now if that lady does ever figure out how to hdmi a pdf, she would be a Jedi Master, indeed, and we may both end up learning at her feet. Thanks again and likewise if you want to holler and maybe learn how to brick any device at all, I'm available. Brick master extraordinaire, that's me.

My apologies for the late reply, and thank you for your offer, I'll probably be messaging you on my next project. The phone I'm using right now is an unrooted Motorola One 5G Ace, and it's lightning fast. But that's about where any good review ends for me. I should root it, but my screen is so cracked I may as well get a new phone.
However! I am the proud owner of a fully rooted Motorola e4 Plus, as well as a fully rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 - the AT&T kind, which is the only version that's untouchable by Developer Geohot's brainchild, Towel Root. (By the way, excellent work on that, Geohot. You are a legend among my circle.)
So, in short, I've got 2 rooted phones, neither with service, but still fun to poke around the older OS versions and see what's under the hood.
I'm tempted to grab a Galaxy S22 Ultra, but only if it's rootable, Samsung being synonymous with bloatware/trashware/dataware.
What kind of phone are you yourself working with?

Introduce Myself

My name is E-Jay and I am a new member here. I've followed XDA for a few years now. I am avid android user and have become the most knowledgeable out of anyone I know. I am 100% self taught over the last 5 years when I first started to learn of all the awesome things you can do with an Android and I laugh when people claim IOS or Microsoft have better OS or devices because I truly find that a laughable statement. Then I will explain APK mods, the abilities of a rooted device and the ease of doing so compared to IOS and usually stop when I see the person stopped listening at APK and has a unshakable opinion fed to them by InTouch magizine but every once in awhile I will see the spark I must have had when I first started to learn about the OS and I know I have a new friend and student. To you guys I am still light years away from knowing anything but that's why I love this site. Thanks for reading and I look forward to speaking on my favorite hobby with everyone here.

Yes, some people don't know nothing and think they can resolve their problems with shelling out even more money, instead of reading up
However, at least for apple I have met some very tech savvy people... always makes me wonder why they defend even ****ty apple decisions or ignore them Perhaps some form of Stockholm Syndrome?
What phone(s) do you have then?

Ok, had to get one of my toys open to my Google account device list to answer that because I collect FRP locked devices I find dirt cheap and bypass the lock, currently signed into my Google is a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, TCL 30XE ,BLU C5L Max, LGE LG K31, Wiko Life 3 Nokia X100 and those are ones I play with. I also have a mess of older ones including Samsung A01, Rooted Galaxy J2 I keep for sentimental reasons along with a Chinese MediaTec Tablet because they were the first device I successfully rooted and first mobile device I successfully rooted and J2 I flashed the original firmware and Android 5 that it still runs because I guess I'm like a car guy who wants his first car all original. My first successful rooted mobile device I wanted all original..lol .I could keep going with at least 7-8 more that have a charge on the battery I could check and tell u but nothing special. I had 2 devices that ran Android 2, the first Android OS to be on a phone but my freaking ex wife decided they were old trash so I threw her out with them...no, I really didn't but was not happy. Have never seen a device lower than android 5 before or since. Got both from my mother who thought I was insane when I got so excited over old phones she was throwing away. I guess everyone has a passion. Somehow mine became android phones. Even I think I'm a little crazy and wish I went to school when I was younger so I'd be more advanced in my knowledge of how the OS actually works and at 42 it is a little late to learn from scratch and start a new career but I enjoy what I do and Android is just a hobby I am passionate about. Thank you for asking, bet you regret it..lol
