Introduce Myself - Introductions

My name is E-Jay and I am a new member here. I've followed XDA for a few years now. I am avid android user and have become the most knowledgeable out of anyone I know. I am 100% self taught over the last 5 years when I first started to learn of all the awesome things you can do with an Android and I laugh when people claim IOS or Microsoft have better OS or devices because I truly find that a laughable statement. Then I will explain APK mods, the abilities of a rooted device and the ease of doing so compared to IOS and usually stop when I see the person stopped listening at APK and has a unshakable opinion fed to them by InTouch magizine but every once in awhile I will see the spark I must have had when I first started to learn about the OS and I know I have a new friend and student. To you guys I am still light years away from knowing anything but that's why I love this site. Thanks for reading and I look forward to speaking on my favorite hobby with everyone here.

Welcome

Yes, some people don't know nothing and think they can resolve their problems with shelling out even more money, instead of reading up
However, at least for apple I have met some very tech savvy people... always makes me wonder why they defend even ****ty apple decisions or ignore them Perhaps some form of Stockholm Syndrome?
What phone(s) do you have then?

Welcome to XDA and enjoy your journey around the forums!
Regards

Ok, had to get one of my toys open to my Google account device list to answer that because I collect FRP locked devices I find dirt cheap and bypass the lock, currently signed into my Google is a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, TCL 30XE ,BLU C5L Max, LGE LG K31, Wiko Life 3 Nokia X100 and those are ones I play with. I also have a mess of older ones including Samsung A01, Rooted Galaxy J2 I keep for sentimental reasons along with a Chinese MediaTec Tablet because they were the first device I successfully rooted and first mobile device I successfully rooted and J2 I flashed the original firmware and Android 5 that it still runs because I guess I'm like a car guy who wants his first car all original. My first successful rooted mobile device I wanted all original..lol .I could keep going with at least 7-8 more that have a charge on the battery I could check and tell u but nothing special. I had 2 devices that ran Android 2, the first Android OS to be on a phone but my freaking ex wife decided they were old trash so I threw her out with them...no, I really didn't but was not happy. Have never seen a device lower than android 5 before or since. Got both from my mother who thought I was insane when I got so excited over old phones she was throwing away. I guess everyone has a passion. Somehow mine became android phones. Even I think I'm a little crazy and wish I went to school when I was younger so I'd be more advanced in my knowledge of how the OS actually works and at 42 it is a little late to learn from scratch and start a new career but I enjoy what I do and Android is just a hobby I am passionate about. Thank you for asking, bet you regret it..lol

Apparently I answered multiple times. New to this site and the setup a little different on mobile. More like a blog or a Docs setup. Still don't know how I managed to post the first sentence of my answer 3 times before my entire answer. I apologize if confusing to you, just know it's 10 times more so for me..lol

pissed abbout google play store and samsung appstore and espetially amazon appstore

hy,
im not sure if im doing something wrong but the google appstore is very incoherent, i dont even want to mention the other stores.
i was trying for example, to find resident evil 4 on the samsung store but found streetfighter 4 instead witch i cannot find on the google store nor anywhere.
streetfighter 4 was, by all sources on google first only exclusive for LG devices and then was expanded to some devices in japan, so i shouldnt even see it.
but alright thats the samsung store i dont expect much of that anyway .. but the google store is the same crap basically.
i go on my samsung s4 in the appstore app i press the menu button and select my apps and i got two tabs one says installed the other all.
on the installed tab i should see all apps installed on my device regardless if i got them from the samsung store or any other source i could have also downloaded an apk and installed it manually.
the i open my browser and go to the google app store .. what do i got there? i have on the left a link to my apps now i am supposed to get all my apps listed there ... and also one has that little gear icon witch is there for settings on it there is an option saying MY ORDERS that lists everything i ever purchased from the google appstore.
now the issue is that in the list of my apps on the browser i dont have the same items as on the list that the mobile app store gives me i am missing believe it or not even GOOGLE VOICE SEARCH witch appears on my mobile.
now the most retarded thing about this hole thing is that i got on my device in the all tap listed 2 samsung apps witch are the SAMSUNG HUB and PHOTO EDITOR when i go into details on both i get a message saying this app is not compatible with your device.
i cannot find neither of these apps on the google app store when i use the search embeded in the store app.
if this is really the android system then i take a crap on it. IS IT SO HARD TO MAKE THING COHERENT... I CANNOT IMAGINE ANYTHING SIMPLER IN THE HOLE PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT OF AN ANDROID SYSTEM. i dont want to get thrown to by all this trash produced by a bunch of different standards different appstores but as you can see also within each store itselt.
I SO REGREAD BUYING THE S4 ILL NEVER CHANGE FROM APPLE AGAIN.
is it really so that in the process of developing a system like android google or samsung or whoever just says ok ... we developed all the core stuff we dont care about the UI just get the thing ready for sale
I've never had problems with it. Try re-installing it.
Edit: Judging by your lack of spelling and such, I'm assuming you're from a different country. That also affects what's available in the Play Store.
Complain about Samsung's App Store to Samsung and complain about Amazon's App Store to Amazon.
Writing an essay *****ing about everything isn't going to fix everything.

im not *****ing you are just blind or occupied with your playstation or something these are real issues and *****ing is the only thing one has left when GOOGLE AND SAMSUNG ... giant companies, are to stupid to make things as they should but i rather believe that they dont mind about costumers.
if you say that you have no issues, than maybe you havent checked all the stuff i mentioned above i allready took into account the fact that not all aps are available in all countries on the google appstore not sure if its the same on samsungs store.
i checked all spelling before posting really dont know where you found misspelled words
another thing is that i cannot find google magazines but i can find google books witch is just ridiculous... i want to throw out.
google is in everything they make incoherent and lackish.
i have no idea what is so hard about it but apple seems to be the only electronics company out there that can be trusted trully.
Unfortunately that's not how Google Play works. It's only going to show you what you installed via Google Play because those are they only ones it can determine you legally own. Same goes for the Amazon App store.
Google Play Web has always had issues displaying my apps. I think that's more of a limitation of the Web Developer and/or what they're using.
The issue you're having with the apps not being compatible with your device isn't Google Play's fault but the app developer's fault as they flag what the app is and isn't compatible with.
Funny how you mention Apple does it better but you have to remember there's only one maker of the iPhone so there's no worries about compatibility while there are many makers of Android Phones so compatibility's going to be an issue.

Why are you taking this as an attack? For your information, I don't even own a gaming console. Obviously you're not checking your spelling well enough. Anyway, All those app stores don't tie into each other because they don't share records. I really don't see what the point of this thread was to be honest.
If you're really that dissatisfied quit complaining and go to an iPhone and deal with the issues they have.

Android is about Open Source. Unlike macs proprietary world, android wants you to have the freedom of choice. Unfortunately this means everyone wants to be a choice. There's no reason to try out a million markets. You can usually find what you need in 1. If not, use a search engine, not other markets. Just easier that way.

Lol, sorry, couldn't help myself.
The reason (again) why you might get better sound quality on apple products is because that's 1 company. Android has a ton of different people all trying to be better than the last guy. So they change the way streams sent or how hardware renders or they make a cheap product to make a quick buck. That's a free world, where people are allowed to be cheated, but also where they are allowed to go elsewhere.
Remember, if you own apple...

The best thing to do if you're having trouble is ask. No need to rant or attack companies that aren't reading this.
Just say "hey guys, having trouble finding this for my device which is s4 for this provider. Btw I'm in <country name>, thanks"
This'll help you find what you need.
Also, if you're confused about why markets don't seem synced, ask "how come phone play store shows x apps and web store on pc shows y?"
We're glad to help, but you gotta make the problem clear and not sound like we're telemarketers who called you at dinnertime

It's not that they don't it's that they can't. They released Android as an open source project for anyone to use as they see fit. Besides if they attempted to dictate to companies how they had to build their phones and that they all had to be clones of all the others then no one would make them. It is because they're allowed to make their phones they way they want that Android based phones hold more market share than the iPhone.

youve got to be a WIERDO noticeing all this small errors wich noone even cares.
the next time i draw pictures for you so everything is clear for you, youve got to read between the lines my friend to get to the real problem.
i believe thats why you bought an android in the first please because youre so surfacing all the time and dont get to the point.
what is that fraze supposed to mean i really wounder APPLE OWNS YOU, maybe they restrict me somehow? i dont know but i know that google restricts me with their crap inconsistent system and if they cant even make their own software nice than its not a problem with cross platforming.
if they compete with each other then they should make thinks better not worse I MEAN WHERE DID YOU PEOPLE LIVE... ON THE MOON?
AGAIN THE ONLY COMPANY OUT THERE THAT IS COMMERCIAL ... AVAILABLE TO ANYONE IS APPLE
if you think youre free because you can edit the system files on your phone then are you blind as a rat .. thats exactly why you are more constrained.
you have the choice to design stuff for example the UI. like anyone is capable to design thinks as they like, at the end they design crap for sure.
look on the other hand at ios 7 BEAUTIFUL i dont want to change a thing on that one ITS SECURE ITS BEAUTIFUL ITS MOST IMPORTANT ITS COHERENT.
APPLE RULES.
THEY PUT A QUALLCOM PROCESSOR IN THE S4 BUT AS THE DID WITH THE OTHER SOFTWARE THEY HAVE I BET THE CORE SOFTWARE ON THE ANDROID IS JUST AS FULL OF UNBELIEVABLE BULL**** MISTAKES AS EVERYWHERE ELSE AND I BET THESE EAT BATTERY LIFE AS WELL.
for example i wouldn't be surprised with this idiots considering their WORK so far, that android does not communicate with all wifi routes the same way it maybe BRAND DEPENDENT PFFFF.
unbelievable idiots but again what a contrast to apple like apple is the only serious company out there

So you don't want help? Just to complain and promote apple?
Few things:
1. Yes, I am weird, I am OCD, I see things that as you said "no one cares about". I understand how little things can be important. Like how people will value your opinion based on the coherency of your delivery. If me no comprende, then me no nintendo.
2. My understanding of how important the little things are is what prompted me to purchase an android. You think you can't edit system files in apple products? Of course you can. It's not about being able to change the look of my phone. It's about being able to choose to do as I see fit, whether that's change the look, functionality or whatever else occurs to me.
3. By the phrase "apple owns you" what I mean to say is that in purchasing an apple product, you must purchase other apple products which will only be compatible with other apple products. In purchasing their equipment you've lost the freedom of choice. It's all apple. Headphones? Apple. Laptop? Apple. Mp3 player? Apple. Repair shop? Apple. Music player? Apple. Software? Apple.
Android can be used with whatever you prefer. Samsung, sony, htc, etc. The list goes on. This is why I prefer open source. It's about not being stuck in a loop and not being a walking advertisement for products that have been pushed on me rather then those I've selected because I like.
4. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That means that different people find different things beautiful. Look at some of the theme forums. Some are incredible, others are meh. To me. Not to the people that are downloading them and loving it.
This is why you think android is worse? Because it doesn't force itself on you? Have you tried windows? They're also commercial and available to everyone. You want something better, check out aosp. That's Android Open Source Project. There you will find much innovation and improvement. It's not android fighting against itself. It's companies trying to make android their own thing for their own reasons. Customer loyalty to what's familiar, a similar experience with their own brand name products.
You ask if we live on the moon for not getting away from that...
Have you even looked at this forum?
Most of what you will find here is about getting away from what all these companies are pushing on their customers. Why do you think people root? Replace roms? Kernels? All these things so we can get the experience that WE want from our devices. Not what the companies have deemed we should have.
You praise apple as the only serious company out there? Either you are gravely misinformed, blissfully ignorant or you're simply trolling.
Have you seen some of the battery performances on this forum? They're ridiculously awesome!
It's not android adding the bloatware, it's the devices manufacturers. Samsung adds Its app and launcher and whatever it wants to its devices, as does every other company out there. They made it, they can sell it how they want.
Apple's done an incredible job, it's come a long way, but it monopolizes itself. That is the only thing I don't like about apple, and is reason enough for me to never purchase their products.
I wouldn't allow such ideology in any other aspect of my life, why would I in this?
If apple makes you happy, great, grab yourself a variant of iphone and live the happy comfortable life of the conformist. Like a consumer slave, nothing to worry about when the masters choose for you

you got some good points there but.. apple ipad i the best apple earpods are the best apple laptops are the best so why would i want to choose something else.
i gurantee you that aple knows that the policy about their products is takeing them a bit portion of the market BUT they dont see any other way to guarantee you quality.
and the reason people change so much firmware is .. bad android on ios i wouldnt even want to change anything nor do i care to do things other than intended.
best way to save yourself from bad products is not to even get them and not buy them and then try to change them...

That's really the question here, I feel; why did you get something besides an apple product in the first place if you are so sold on the apple systems? Clearly there was something about apple you didn't like enough that you ended up getting an android phone instead. You can't argue that apple is the only good choice since after all - you yourself admitted it wasn't by choosing something else in this instance.

That's absolute correct. Feel free to only buy great products in the future, even though you for some strange reason decided to buy something you considered "not great" in this case, and then came to a forum dedicated to changing it to complain about your mistake.
We're very sorry you don't appreciate the phone you bought. The simple solution is to sell it to someone who does and get an iphone instead. iPhones are great products, no doubt, and apparently they are perfect for what you need!
Good luck!

This guy's either a complete moron or a troll and this thread should be locked either way. He obviously isn't here looking for help but to just bash on Android with an "I'm holier then thou" kind of attitude. If you love Apple so much how bout you just stfu and go find someone with an iPhone 5 that wants a S4 and trade with them if you can't exchange it where you bought it for one.
Posted on the GS4 forum too...and got flamed. Just a troll, IMHO!!

Actually, I don't think the OP is a troll - he is a frustrated user venting in the wrong place to the wrong people. The OP is mad because he is used to the "it just works" feeling that Apple provides. I can relate to his feelings.
I carried an iPhone for awhile. A 4S. And although I prefer my Android by far, there are a few things that Apple simply does better than anyone. One of them is quality control. As an example, "drive mode" on my current i537. On my S2 I used this all the time. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. No rhyme or reason except buggy Samsung software. When I got my i537, I figured they *must* have fixed drive mode by now... I was wrong. Two years and two versions later it *still* only works only when it feels like it. Apple *usually* would never ship such shoddy software (yes, I know about the maps fiasco, but that is an exception, not the rule with them). There are many other stupid little Samsung bugs on our phone. It is frustrating to have a device that would be just about perfect if they spent a little more time on quality control. I mean, I found some of these bugs less than an hour after booting up my phone for the first time. Makes me wonder how much testing Samsung actually did with this phone before they started shipping...
That's what I thought at first, but instead of explaining his situation clearly (what he's looking for, what he's seeing) and actually asking for help he increases the animosity in his posts and adopts an "apple rulez you droolz!!!" attitude. That's when I decided he was a troll.
If he'd be clearer than "this sucks! Me no understand! I hate you bye!" Maybe he'd get a little more help. He's obviously never seen beyond what's in front of his nose and instead of trying to understand, he becomes angry. I can understand frustration, but there's no need to attack members, companies or anyone for that matter. If you don't understand something, you research, analyze, try a different angle and see what you learn. Not cry about it to whoever happens to stroll by.

exactly right friend but just think that if you can see already so many flaws on the surface just by booting up just think how many flaws there must be on the core programs, making youre device maybe vulnerable for attacks most of them noone probably notices because all google cares about is making things stable not necessarily right.
i just cant believe that even today only one company can be taken for serious and thats apple, i dont think that there has ever been a situation on any market in the world ever in history of mankind ... in economy that nobody cares to deliver a quality product besides one company but that everybody makes profit.
android is just a big prank that keeps itself on the surface by making false promises talking about functionality where there is basicly not so much functionality as they promise.
but what goes completely out of bounds and i cant understand at all is that this is absolutely no problem to fix.
software economy has obviously taken its own dynamic, going on a thin rope of false statements and cheap production i guess.
i have been in egypt this year for holiday and i would never go there again, but still i meet there people that came there for the 5th time i just couldn't believe my mind anymore ... unbelievable.
same counts for android some people just see the obvious and some just like crappy stuff maybe they like to suffer.. makes them feel better.
Like I said, I know how you feel. I'm a perfectionist myself and don't understand either why Samsung doesn't go just a bit further with their testing to work out some of the obvious bugs and flaws in their software. But what you or I might want is unfortunately irrelevant. Samsung hasn't asked for my opinion thus far, and I'd doubt they will anytime soon. So... We get to chose between Apple's relentless pursuit of perfection inside their strictly controlled "walled garden", or the "Wild West" of the Samsung/Android world. I'll take the later, bugs and all. If you chose to do the same, there are people here who will go far out of their way to help you with any issues that come up and only ask for coherency and politeness in return. Give it a try...

Met a Girl During My Interview

Hi All,
Today, during my interview I met one girl. She was using Redmi Note 4. She was saying me that I want to Buy iPhone 8. I was like fine. He searched on Google for iPhone 8. (Inner me was laughing at her)
She said me it will launch in September. I was kind of okay! Just because She said me the truth. Next, I said her that I am waiting for Android O. It is going to be superb. She was like Android Nougat is still not available for my Redmi. I told her that it will take some time.
I said I am having Android N if you want to look at it, you can. She was like you have installed custom ROM right? Even I have tried many of times. I was looking at her.
I have shown my blog to her. She was like its good. She read some tricks and tips. I have shown her the way she can install Dual ROM on her phone
I really thought girls are dumbo and they don't know anything. She was having pretty good knowledge.
Girls aren't really dumbos, everyone is if they aren't into that sort of crap, right? I am into aviation, but you probably don't know jack **** about it, does that make you a dumbo? No, it just doesn't make you an enthusiast.
So is she now oriented to android instead?

Not necessarily, just that she might have read upon it and tried to learn, exactly like we all have done.

Hello Nick and welcome,
What city in Germany are you?
Enjoy the forums!
What's goody? I'm bobbymobetta, you cab find me under that handle most everywhere I go. I was early on an iPhone hater and my first smartphone was a Motorola Droid with slide-out physical keyboard. In those days I used to say I'd never use an iPhone specifically because of the keyboard. But my second (emergency switch) android phone was an original Samsung Galaxy (a 1 I guess) after throwing that phone against a wall I swore I'd never go back to android, and as a mostly mac/apple ecosystem user, that promise seemed like it would be easy to keep. 10 years later, as the backlash began against the big stacks, I returned to Samsung with a Galaxy 9. Why? Because I wanted more freedom to modify and even simply to customize the UI, and occasionally the OS. Now, with a brand new iteration of my trusty Galaxy (S21+) It's clear to me where the lines get drawn; Android users fight for net neutrality and generally speaking have a "Don't Tread on Me" mentality. iPhone users are those who, when their screen cracks, they immediately trash it and buy a new one, secretly happy for an excuse to get the "newest, best" you know, that one with more "security" (surveillance) features and... a newest bestestest camera, but otherwise is essentially the same as the last version.
I play and write music, most recently getting deep into the analog synthesis scene, and I'm cohost of the podcast 'Earth's Mightiest Podcast' which features revues and commentary about the latest Avengers comics...as well as other things
Get at me! I'm here mainly to try rooting my S20, since if it bricks, I won't be up that creek with no paddle... shoot, what's that creel called again...?

I'm 40 year's old and was incarcerated throughout my 20s and 30s I came home to a different world one that I enjoy most at home on my laptop learning. I enjoy learning commands and exploits for any and all systems especially the ones pertaining to my devices. I currently am working on rooting a wingtech revvl+ and a few other devices. Any one who has successfully installed a custom recovery on the tmrvl4g_0.05.27 or any variant of tmrvl4g 5g let me know. Thanks

Welcome, good sir, and glad to have you back in the world... <smile>
I got tired of Boost's nonsense (being forced to upgrade to a 5g phone, allegedly free, but actually about 250 bucks in all), and went to T-Mobile. Since they were cheap and I needed 3 of them, and, with all the upgrades to 5g, likely needed to offload a few traincars of them, we got 3 TMRVL4G devices...
Since it's Wingtech, which really isn't one of the biggies, but, as I've been on this venue all these years, through many devices, I'm always willing to be a guinea pig... My coding chops are decades old, and really revolve around Delphi, CodeTyphon, and old XBase stuff... Never learned C++ nor really much .java, so coding for Android is, while interesting to me, and I can generally read and follow others' work, just the syntax and symbology are difficult for me. (What can I say? Turned 65 this past Valentine's Day, and it shows at the damnedest times... <grin>)
But, should you happen across any recent information regarding any work on rooting this device, or, at the least, enabling the app-to-SD functionality which is available for every other device I've ever owned, I'd be most grateful. Add to that, I've got plenty of legit Play Store-approved apps for which I've paid real money, but can't use as they each require root access... It's not that I disapprove the companies' making admin access difficult (hey, I've boneheaded enough over the years, but give me a way to get back to default and I'm good... I also have a modest collection of paperweights where, "Sorry, dude... you're hosed..." LOL)...
It's that they each try to out-do each other in how impossible they can make it for even experienced users, but without access to their tech-support frame, to actually use these things as they're capable... I mean, ****... a quad-core device, fast as hell, and storage out the wazoo for most users. Not me, mind you, as, were some functionality enabled, this beastie would be a quick laptop replacement, with the Bluetooth keyboard which also seems to not talk to it.
Again, good sir, welcome, and welcome back!

... and yes... I worked for a few months for Sprint on their helpdesk in El Paso... there is a way... there is always a way.

Bewildered beginner here to learn from the winners...

I wish I could list even one awesome coding skill to contribute to XDA, but the truth is the other way around - it's the developers here who've been contributing to me for the past several years as I've struggled to navigate the ever-winding road of Android. I came here completely green, not a single line of code to call mine, and had to look up every other word in the posts, only to have to look up the words in the definitions as well.
I remember that time very well, as I was armed with the new Nexus 5 Hammerhead running KitKat 4.4.4, and all I wanted to do more than anything in the world was this really cool thing I'd heard about called 'rooting.' Didn't even know what I could do with a rooted phone back then, especially since it was my very first smartphone. And somehow, some way, with the help of the posts here on XDA, I managed to gain root privileges on my first try. Bragging rights? Nah. Not until it's revealed that it only took me 3 weeks of delving my phone's deepest corners before finally discovering this amazing secret where anything I deleted instead got doubled, which allowed me to finally achieve the world record of filling up a phone's memory with useless data faster than The Competitor could get hit with planned obsolescence lawsuits. Now that's fast, indeed.
On a more serious note, there has actually been one question I've seen posted recently that I realized I could have easily helped someone with, had I an account here. Thus, what you see before you. Of course it will probably turn out to be the only question I'll come across here that I can answer, but someone needs me the way I've needed you and if I could help even just one person, then here I go...

Nice intro!
welcome to XDA
Thank you, I mean it. (Bashfully looks down, hands clasped behind back, toeing ground...) This is the first time in my life I've ever signed up to be a part of something bigger than myself, there isn't a lot out there that can really keep drawing me back, time and time again. Now if I can just find that Thanks button I just read about, I won't have to take up so much space on the servers each time I want to show my gratitude.....

You actually made me laugh out loud with that one. Thanks I needed that! I'll certainly consider hitting you up the next time I need help, which is, on average, every 6.2 seconds. Now if that lady does ever figure out how to hdmi a pdf, she would be a Jedi Master, indeed, and we may both end up learning at her feet. Thanks again and likewise if you want to holler and maybe learn how to brick any device at all, I'm available. Brick master extraordinaire, that's me.

My apologies for the late reply, and thank you for your offer, I'll probably be messaging you on my next project. The phone I'm using right now is an unrooted Motorola One 5G Ace, and it's lightning fast. But that's about where any good review ends for me. I should root it, but my screen is so cracked I may as well get a new phone.
However! I am the proud owner of a fully rooted Motorola e4 Plus, as well as a fully rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 - the AT&T kind, which is the only version that's untouchable by Developer Geohot's brainchild, Towel Root. (By the way, excellent work on that, Geohot. You are a legend among my circle.)
So, in short, I've got 2 rooted phones, neither with service, but still fun to poke around the older OS versions and see what's under the hood.
I'm tempted to grab a Galaxy S22 Ultra, but only if it's rootable, Samsung being synonymous with bloatware/trashware/dataware.
What kind of phone are you yourself working with?
