The first one is like a Blurex case:

this one is minimal, looks good, seems very light and elegant to carry around
2nd: rotating:

it looks good also, and it allows the tablet to stand portrait, however the wheel might add some thickness to it?
Has anyone owned this type of case? is it really bulky?
I like the first minimal case, but then sometimes I do read comics in portrait mode, so I was worried that I would not be able to let it stand in portrait later. But I also prefer a minimal case that looks nice and is easy to carry around.
Thoughts?
I have both of those and both have good qualities. The slim case is very slim and is very minimalistic, but elegant and functional. The rotating case offers more heft, but increased functionality. The sleep function works well on both, but I would say it boils down to preference. The slim case would feel great from an inside coat pocket, the rotating case I would probably throw in my backpack, feels like a book. Both are good cases, get both...
edit: After taking a second look at the links, the slim case pictured doesn't have the newer modified speaker holes. This one reason was a huge factor when I decided to pull the plug and buy it. If this is of any importance, I would get the rotating case if these two are your only options.
FYI: When in the portrait position the rotating cause can't seem to take advantage of all of the positions, compared to landscape.

It really depends on what protection you like. The first case works great for landscape viewing however it provides minimal protection for the silver bezel from scratches and chips. The second case it nice however it is thick.
I already have three cases for my Nexus 7. I think my new viewpoint is that I am not going to buy another case until it is one I absolutely love. Their are just not that many options out yet. My current set up is a tpu s style case and screen protector.
It is all personal preference. If you do not have a case than either one is great just know you will more than likely buy another one in a few months.

thanks for the insight

I do see a hole for speakers though.. or are they too small/blocking the sound?

I am not sure I understand this, do you mean while holding it in portrait, the case will get in the way? looking at it, the front flap doesn't seem to be able to bend back if I want to hold it in one hand, is that what you mean?
Any cases that can stand in both portrait and landscape?

Yes there's one that rotates 360 but I don't personally like the quality. However I do have the Seidio Active case with cover that doubles as a stand. Here you can view the tablet in any orientation.
So I just got my Nexus 10 earlier today, and was looking at my options for a good but cheap (~$25) case. I was going to get a Poetic Slimline case, but the accounts of the screen separating from the rubber due to how tightly they fit concerns me. I want to be able to take it out of the case while at home, so such a flaw is a dealbreaker. While looking for another case, I came across a few that can stand in both landscape and portrait orientations. This intrigues me, as I would be using mine with a bluetooth keyboard for school a lot and portrait mode is better for text heavy tasks. So, is there anyone here who bought such a case and has a recommendation? Any to stay away from?
I really like the look of the Poetic Slimline Portfolio Cases but they will only stand up in landscape mode. All the cases I've found so far that will stand up in portrait mode have a big bezel around the screen which I don't want.
Any suggestions?
I can find transparent landscape kickstand cases. I can find colored portrait & landscape kickstand cases. I cannot find a note 5 transparent portrait and landscape kickstand case which is ideal to show off a gorgeous gold note 5.Can anybody find one for me? Thanks!
