My wife's had a Motorola Moto G 2014 phone for a couple of months. It's stock unrooted, with the latest OTA Android updates (Lollipop 5.0.2). Notification sounds are not playing properly.
If keyboard touch sounds are on and I go into the notification selector and select a sound, sometimes it plays, sometimes not and sometimes only a bit of the sound plays.
However if I turn off keyboard touch sounds then I can't get notifications to play at all. See the Youtube video demo
I've rebooted several times and booted into safe mode but no change. Any suggestions other than doing a factory reset?
Does anyone else have the issue where the speaker volume fades out and then becomes mute. Let me explain more:
Since about yesterday, whenever I'd use an app that requires sound (Spotify, Soundcloud, Youtube, Facebook videos, etc), I'd initially hear some sound (depending on my volume setting. After about 3 to 8 seconds, the volume fades out for no apparent reason. I'd check to see if the volume level is changed, but it remains at my set level but there is no sound. I max the volume and still no sound. This doesn't seem to be a hardware issue but rather a software issue.
Yes! I have to restart my device. Then it will work for a while. This is the first form I've seen talking about this issue. Must not be a huge issue. I have an S8 plus.
I am having a problem with no sound playing on videos.
This happens mostly on streamed content.
I turn the volume up on all sliders.
Yes, I am checking the volume on the player.
When this is taking place, I also am not getting calls to ring.
All colume sliders are up but it doesn't seem to do anything.
I boot the phone and it still doesn't work.
It literally seems to come and go at random. I can't find a pattern of behavior.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi there,
Not sure if my phone is a dud - has anyone experienced the V40's boombox speaker suddenly not working or else very quiet? I've tried to adjust the volume controls, but it either seems normal, or else it even seems like it's in a call (it says "call volume" when adjusting the volume rocker switches sometimes, even though I'm not in a call). The volume sliders are all full. The only cure is a reboot. But you can still hear screen taps and things too. It's sort of like a media playback issue, and it happens in other apps as well - like Youtube, WhatsApp, etc. It's not going to Bluetooth either...
I have done a factory reset and the problem crept back right away.
Thanks for any help.
Thx

I am facing a similar issue with "call volume" showing up when headset is connected (even though am not on a call); This specifically happens if my V40 has been previously connected to a Bluetooth device which has a mic, and then has been disconnected from it. I have to restart my V40 everytime this happens as otherwise the audio is really inconsistent (it sounds cracked at lower volume, and tinny at higher volume).
When you say "the problem crept back right away", is it after some particular action (for instance connecting to some BT speaker or something?);
Also, did you try running it in safe mode (hold power button, press the "power off" icon in the screen, it should show an option to re-boot to safe mode), for me, it works on safe mode but the problem comes back even after a factory reset when i am in the normal screen.

Hi there, yeah, I can't exactly pinpoint when the problem crept back after the reset. I had been using Google Maps but I can't imagine how that would affect audio. The next time I used Google Maps, I couldn't here the navigation cues, and then I checked Youtube and "behold!"...the sound had got cut out again. Had to reboot. Would the phone be routing audio to some bluetooth channel or something, like my Samsung Gear S3? Why it would, I don't know. I do remember seeing the "in call" display once when this was happening which clearly is a different bug and not bluetooth related. I did try to connect to a bluetooth device, and then disconnect, and the problem has not resurfaced yet but I feel that I don't have much confidence in it at the moment.
I'll look into Safe mode; thx for the tip.

I know this has happened to me as well but I know what is causing it on my phone. Whenever taking a video call in Facebook messenger then my phone stays locked in the call volume also. Only way I have found is to restart the phone also. I am not using Bluetooth at all for the call either just the phone speaker so it's not a Bluetooth issue on my end. Having to restart the phone definitely sucks.

Well i found one more case - when doing a FTP through WiFi from PC (to transfer files); once FTP connection is closed (after transferring), and then if the earphones are plugged-in, phone says "call volume". Had to again restart. I was trying to find any app that can just refresh the UI/settings/system without doing a restart every time but haven't been successful. LG definitely need to fix it.
Thx for the replies, I have no clue as to why this problem is happening, but I've traded my phone for a new one in the 10-day purchase period and so far it is working correctly. Fingers crossed.
Hey guys since I've owned this phone I've had constant problems with the phone automatically adjusting the volume usually way down. When not on Bluetooth it's less pronounced but still occurs, I'll turn on a podcast and the volume will drop on the phone to like 20%.
On Bluetooth, the problem becomes an absolute nightmare. Every time I switch apps, or even open new browser tabs the volume settings appear on screen and randomly jump either up or down. If I'm moving quickly between apps or browsers, this can occur multiple times (up or down) within a 5 second window. Pretty much anytime I turn on audio I have to turn the volume all the way back up.
I've disabled Bluetooth absolute volume in dev settings but don't see any other fix for this.
Also, the problem is independent of player. Spotify does it, stitcher does it, VLC does it, and pi music does it. And even when I'm connected to Bluetooth and doing nothing audio related but just switching between apps and browser it will be jumping the volume levels around and popping up the audio slider on the right side of the screen.
What Bluetooth device are you using? Perhaps it uses touch controls and they're acting up
