Hi there,
My ZenFone 8 suddenly turned off randomly today, while playing music on YouTube.
I held the power button for 15 or so seconds, and now the phone is stuck on what I assume to be a ramdump. It lists various boot stages, and has green text saying 'Waiting for flashing full ramdump'.
Is there any way to fix this? I can't call Asus support, as it's a public holiday today. The phone is running on the stock firmware.
Press volume down and power until it reboots

Tried that, it just returns to the ramdump screen. Holding Volume Up has the same effect

Wait, so is my firmware corrupted? Also, will I lose my files?
Also, I just noticed something: When I plug the cable in to USB, the display glitches out. (I don't have another camera, so i can't show it well, sorry.) Could this be related?
Managed to use my laptop webcam. Here is the glitch that I described:

Also, here is a photo of the ramdump screen I see.
Looks strange, faulty cable or usb-port?
Well, the screen remains 'normal' when I use a different USB-C cable. However, unplugging it causes the screen to glitch again?
By USB port, do you mean the port on the phone? I think that might be the issue, so it looks like I'll have to contact ASUS support tomorrow. Thank you for your help : )
I had the exact same issue and I eventually sent the phone back to Asus for a repair. According to their repair tracker, it's currently awaiting parts 'with a longer lead time'. I thought it's a software issue, so not sure what parts they're awaiting, but I'll be without a phone for a while.

hold all three buttons pressed until the screen powers off(power + volume up + volume down).
when that happened to me while developing my kernel, the screen first shuts off, keep the buttons pressed, you´ll see bootloader for a split second, then it´ll turn off again, keep buttons pressed, then it´ll stay at bootloader screen. now let first go of power button, and then the volume buttons.
that should get you out of ramdump mode to fastboot/bootloader.
then you should be able to boot back up, by choosing reboot via volume buttons and confirm the choice via power button.
Hi, does anyone have a solution to this problem? My zenfone 8 also shut down randomly while I was using the camera app and I haven't been able to start it since. No combination of buttons has been able to get me out of the "waiting for ramdump mode". No fastboot, no other mode. It really puzzles me as to how such a catastrophic failure could occur in normal use that could completely brick the phone, which has never occurred to me on any other phone before.
Has anybody found a solution to this problem? My ZenFone 8 went blank and shutdown suddenly. I am not able to find a solution to this anywhere.
I've tried every possible button combination but I'm unable to reboot to fastboot either.

Hold and press volume down and power until it reboots, can take 30 s or more. Press power and volume up to enter fastboot.

Thanks but I tried all possible combinations for over 30 mins. It's not working.
The phone is stuck in EDL mode with no way to boot into the fastboot mode.
Does anyone have the required QPST files for the ZenFone 8 so that I can flash the stock firmware myself using QFIL and QPST?

Ok, sorry to hear. There no edl compatible files out (maybe never) o only option is to find an asus service center to fix an edl-bricked phone.
Note that ramdump state is not same as edl..
EDL state shows phone as Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008 when connected to computer

This is gonna be tricky. The ZenFone 8 hasn't been officially launched in India. However, I imported it from Hong Kong last month. I hope I am able to get this fixed in India.
Yes, my phone does show up as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 when connected to my computer, hence why I mentioned the EDL mode. Even I am unsure why it did as ramdump and EDL are not the same states like you mentioned.
Thanks though.

Did you try pressing and holding all three buttons simultaneously too? you might need to keep them pressed for over a minute.
what happens if you do this? does it reboot or does nothing happen at all?
what happens if you let the phone run out of battery and charge it back up?

Yes, I did try pressing and holding all three buttons at once. I did this for over 5 minutes continuously. However, the phone just kept booting back to the 'ramdump' screen every time.
Right now, the phone doesn't even turn on. No 'ramdump' screen either. It's as if the phone is completely dead.
When I plugged it in, the red charging LED blinks at the bottom a few times but nothing else is happening.
Looks like my phone is screwed up beyond the 'ramdump' screen.

Okay I used Unleash the Beast to root, etc. And stupidly I thought that I didn't have to Go back to stock w/ odin because I hadn't flashed any roms yet.
I flashed SRE 1.3 and I got a boot loop about installing files. I pulled the battery and now ALL that I can get is White AT&T screen (unplugged) or a loading icon that doesn't move(usb plugged in). I have tried Adb, every combination of vol up/down + power, or without power, and the buttons by themselves. Can't get to Download mode or Recovery.... Any suggestions?
You try vol-up+down while off, hold it down, and plug it in while down?
try plugging in the usb when trying to get it into download mode. I was having some issues till I did that.
I appreciate the ideas guys but yeah I've tried both of those. What I'm really looking for is a way to force the phone into download through usb. Neither Adb or Fastboot work.
the pull SIM card and SD card trick always seems to work for me. My phone is a PITA to get into download mode. Just have to keep at it.
Yea, from reading these threads I'm beginning to think that these phones aren't brickable. Everyone who's been unable to get odin to work, it seems, wasn't doing the dl-mode properly. It seems it's primarily because of two issues
(1). (I gathered this from reading threads)--it seems there are different methods for getting into dl-mode for different phone models. I have no idea what kind of phone you have, but there are apparently several ways to get to dl mode (i'm talking strictly about pushing hard key methods). Something common to all of them, however, is that it's a good idea to remove your battery for a minute prior to attempting to get into dl mode.
(2). (may have made this up)--getting drivers installed for this phone is a pain in the butt. It seems there are different drivers for adb/usb debugging, mass storage mode, kies, each of the memory cards, and dl-mode. It took me forever to get the drivers working properly. What I did was just manually install the driver for each device in device manager. I downloaded a folder of drivers from somewhere, and it contained every driver i needed (i think).
Hope this info helps man, i'm sure you'll get it figured out
Pulled the sim(had to use it a dif phone) and don't have an sd card installed. No dice.
I've followed the standard procedures. Did SOME searching, still haven't found anything.
Hmmm. I got ADB to work before the brick.(Adb reboot recovery)
What are Kies? Any idea about those drivers.
I may just have to send it back to AT&T and get another.
Ps. you can get the Captivate for $99 w/ an upgrade on Amazon(w/ family plan) Cheaper on individual.
This is the method that works for me, always. Like, always always. Never failed.
If you have problems getting into Download Mode try this method:
1. Take out your sim card, sd card, battery and open Odin3.
2. Put the battery in.
3. Plug in USB. (the phone will power on to that screen)
4. Hold down both Volume keys, and then push power. Hold it and dont let go.
5. Wait for it to go black.
6. When it goes black the 2nd time release power and keep holding the Vol Down and Vol Up.
This is from the HOW TO Galaxy S ROms thread over in development.

Stuck at this screen when plugged in. Whether it's this screen or the white AT&T World phone screen if I hold at minimum Power+Up volume the screen will go black and then come right back.
And I have tried all other button combos

That's what I'm saying I doesn't even get the battery it's just that freakin circle(if powered off and then plugged in. Doesn't matter what buttons I'm holding). It doesn't move it just sits there. If I do the button combos it'll go black. and come back. I'll release power on 2nd black screen and no dice. If I don't have it plugged into usb I get the White AT&T screen. Holding Up/Down+Pwr or UP+Power will make the screen flash back, wait til 2nd black screen release power, still AT&T screen. hold power+up, release on second black screen and just hold down, nothing. I'm going to try iceczar1's suggestion(posted below) and see what happens.

Read First! (useless phrase): I am not responsible for any damage you will cause to your phone. No matter if is just bricking or throwing with it out of the window. Is not my fault
Step 0: Make sure you have Samsung Drivers intalled!!!!
No drivers, no way to get your phone back on its feet.
1. Just Take out the battery, SIM and SD Card. Make sure USB is not plugged.
2. Wait a bit ... lets say 1 minute (not really important but whatever).
3. Plug in the battery
4. Push the power button
5. Open Odin
6. No matter what message appears, plug in the USB.
Situation 1: Odin recognizes it: apply the patches that last time worked.
Situation 2: -Recommended- If you dont know what to apply or what to do take a look a this post . It will revert your phone to stock ROM (like it was when you got it)
Situation 3: Odin does not recognize it and you cannot see it in Device manager as Samsung Android Composite ADB Interface (and not even as a device with a question mark) then try booting like this:
1a: Take all out (SIM, SD, Battery, USB cable)
2a: plug in battery
3a: hold volume down + up (or up + down, doesn't matter) and insert USB
If you get the battery, then try again step 1a, 2a and the following:
4a: Hold volume down only + insert the USB.
If still no go then I dont know what to tell you my friend. Your phone is defect, because a normal Galaxy S cannot be bricked unless you find a way to flash the "BIOS" on the motherboard (on a separate chip), which, if I know correctly, is not writable (if someone knows better, please correct me and dont tell me Clockwork Recovery does that and flashes over the stock recovery, coz it doesn't. If it would, we would have it as an option when entering recovery mode for ever and we would have no way to see the stock recovery mode anymore)
PLEASE, WHILE YOU ARE DOING ALL THESE STEPS KEEP AN EYE ON WINDOWS DEVICE MANAGER AND ODIN!! IF ANY CHANGE APPEARS, MAKE A NOTE AND TRY TO REPEAT THE ACTION YOU TOOK TO MAKE THAT CHANGE APPEAR! You can even post it here, we might find it useful.

I'll try this when I get home. I'm not holding out hope though.
oooooo just the little circle dealy you get just before the battery shows up. If you are able try this.
Unplug usb
vol up and down + power
When the first at&t logo pops up..plug in the usb (while still holding buttons, and wait for second black screen (if it will get that far) then let off the power button.
Kind of what the above poster said. Power then plug
@Belaflek
If I power on to AT&T then plug in and try the Pwr+Up(or Up&down) it will go black and then back to the circle.
You're having the same problem I had.. My phone the day I recieved it would not go into recovery or downlode mode via the button combinations. There is a thread that some others are having the same problem.
Out of curiousity were the button combinations working for you before?
If they weren't then you're going to have to send the phone back.. Despite people saying "well this combination works for me" Something happened with a batch of these phones and for some reason the button combination doesn't work.
If you can't get the button combinations to work, then you are stuck.. send it back so you can get a new one..
No the button combos didn't work before. Yeah I think I'll have to send it back Means I'll be w/o for about a week... I'm gonna be going through some serious withdrawal.
Okay I've tried everything! I'm done with trying I'm just going to send it back. I'll just have to be more careful next time.
As an aside: Basically you always have to use Odin to Flash back to stock before Flashing a new rom is that about right? Or does the Recovery mode have a wipe data, or other way to get back to Stock?

You always have to use Odin to flash back to stock unless you have bone stock, just rooted, installed ROM Manager, flash ClockworkMod and back up that setup, then you could use Rom Manager to revert back to stock with root. I think Odin is quicker though. Before you do anything with your replacement phone make sure the button combo works that way you don't get bricked.
Thanks Rhiannon224, for that info.
I was using the Oden one click gingerbread method and I did the first part and it flashed fine but when it rebooted it went to a charging icon, not the fugumod icon. So, like a moron I pulled the cord since I could not restart it like the tut said. I then booted it up and it went into the fugumod screen. So I tried the 3 button technique and it did not work, it goes to a charging screen. Now I can't get to recovery or Oden to recognize it, so I can't flash it back to stock. Am I really bricked? I can get to the Fugumod screen like the Oden tut said, so is there any way to get Oden to recognize it without the 3 button to get it to download mode? Please help, this is my Mom's phone, I flashed it due to her wifi not working and she needs it soon. Much appreciated.
I forgot to mention, the phone is not detected by my PC. I've used 3 different wires, oem, htc, and a blackberry and it doesn't show up in adb at all.
Looks like you have the button combination locked, try to build a jig, here is how u can do it (worked for me) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841512.
Did u try with vol - and power or vol+ and power? Also u can try removing the battery, plug the usb connected to the pc with odin open, hold vol - and vol + and insert the battery.
Yeah, I tried every way I saw on here, Up+Power, Down+Power, Up+Down+Power, plug battery in while holding up+down, plug battery while holding up, down, and power, plug in wire while holding up, down, and only press power, etc. I'll give the jig a shot, hopefully that will work.

Should works, if you see signals of life jig must send you into download mode. Try to search how you can fix it just to be sure what are the steps that you must follow.
I tried making one from the instructions on here but the only response I got out of it was a charging screen for 2 seconds that disappeared, so I ended up buying one off of Amazon, it'll be here tomorrow and I'll let everyone know if it works or not. BTW, the title is sort of misleading, I am not blaming anyone for the brick, these things happen, I've been rooting phones since the G1, I know how it is.
Don't propagate ignorance... This is a "JIG"..

What you're talking about is a 301kohm jig. Technically refered to as a 301kohm Factory Mode Boot JIG Boot On.

Since there are 6 it should be distinguished. We've worked hard to gain knowledge and talking ignorant once you are in the know is not acceptable. You can also use the 619kohm jig to access download mode via UART.
A bit more on the "jig". JIG is a signal name. It is an "Output control signal driven by the FSA9280A/FSA9288A and used by the processor for factory test modes". There's several JIG modes.
Grab the "GalaxyS Hack Pack" and see the FSA9280 manual for more.
It's not really big issue for me, I'll call whatever the proper name is. It's just that 95% of the users here have called the 301kohm version a "Jig" since it was introduced months ago. Until everyone has adopted the new terms, maybe cut them some slack.
By the way, I haven't been following your work since I've no dev, but just read through some of it. Very nice.
Ok, so the Jig didn't work. It just showed a charging icon like when I used my own Jig. It doesn't boot to anything, it pops up with the battery and then dies. Is this a hard brick then?
EDIT: I unplugged the battery for 20 seconds and replugged the jig, and it sent to download mode. Thanks for the help everyone, and I hope this helps someone else if it happens to them.

3. plug in usb (while holding up+down)
4. plug in battery (continue holding )
and it brings me in download mood
Hi all
I have managed to hardbrick my phone without even trying to flash it.
I have a white 128gb Mi 5 with an unlocked bootloader and (i think) running Cyanogenmod13 (but it was such a long time ago that i installed it - before global stable was out) I've always been happy with it but kept meaning to sit down and put global on it, but havent gotten around to it.
Yesterday i was using my phone, put it in my handbag, took it out ten mins later and it was completely dead. But it was definitely at 100% charge at the time as i had it plugged in on the train. No leds, no response, no screen, not recognised by computer or anything.
There have been a few instances when i pulled my phone out of my bag and the fastboot screen has been up and luckily i've cancelled it. I've been doing a bit of research and i'm pretty sure that i somehow managed to enter fastboot mode in my bag by accident and then corrupt it somehow?
I've been playing about a bit with it. (it's still under warranty, but I can't send it back, because it's got an unofficial rom on it)
I've managed to get it to be recognised on my laptop now by following a video tutorial which i'm not able to post because this is my first post, but it's from choimobile,vn and just in case anyone wants to know which steps i've made it to, this is the rest of the address, /threads/unbrick-xiaomi-mi5-repair-boot-xiaomi-mi5-hardbrick-pc-not-detected.
But i've reached a point that i can't go any further. In all the guides i've read, people talk about the pc recognising the phone as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 but mine doesn't. It just recognises it as "android" so then flashing with miflash doesn't work.
Does anyone know what else i can do? I'm a noob at this so if you could keep the explanations simple, that would be great!
Thanks
Angelina

I'm pretty sure you can't actually do any damage in fastboot without being connected to a PC.
You say your pc detects your phone storage fine so that means it's either booted or in recovery. Either way, you should have some kind of display being shown so it sounds like your screen is broken.
Do you know what recovery you have installed? I'd advise you try to reboot into it (power off -> hold power and volume up) or boot into fastboot and flash twrp recovery.
If your screen never changes from off after restarting, it's likely the screen that's the issue.

Hmm, OK that's strange, i've not done anything that would break it, especially in that short period of time. But I guess it could be a loose connection or something. Although that wouldn't explain why there are no leds or why it doesn't respond to being charged? if it was a broken screen, everything else would work fine.
I could only see it on my pc after taking it apart, disconnecting the battery and using tweezers to connect 2 points on the internal board like in the video above. If i disconnect it, then plug it in again, it's not recognised until i use the tweezers on the two points again.
I've tried to reboot it and get into fastboot again, but it definitely isn't responding.
Thanks
hmm have you tried plugging it to power source then hold power button like one min..?
because last week my phone was just dead, and doesn't respond to anything, though it's slightly different because mine stuck forever at 9008 mode, yet still stuck there even though i flashed new rom
the only cure to wake it up was to attach to charger then holding power button for one minute
or you can try using DFC cable to force into EDL mode
Hiya!
Yes i've tried various combinations of holding different buttons whilst fully charged/discharging/connecting to computer via the test point etc
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Unfortunately, the DFC cable won't work, as that is what i've done with the test point method. It will allow me to connect the phone to the computer but that's as far as it gets.
Bumping this in the hope that someone may have an answer.
Your phone was dead because your power button kept pressing accidentally for a long time as you kept it in your bag, i too have the same problem and I showed it in service center but no luck they suggested me to change the motherboard...

no i don't see anything , black screen nothing happen i try this method a lot but same black screen
and i'm 100% sure my screen not broke
Can't boot into recovery or fastboot and not going to EDL completely
seeing that QDLoader in Device Manager on your PC means you're already in EDL mode. now the problem with that hello packet.
*try to use different cable
*disable driver enforcement
*power cycle the phone by pressing power + volume up + volume down about 15secs until u don't see the QDLoader in device manager
proceed as usual on xiaomiflashtool
i try 4 different cable
oneplus cable charging and 2 others i buy it from store just now , same issue
*power cycle the phone by pressing power + volume up + volume down about 15secs ( not see anything in my phone screen but it's connect on pc with 9008 )
i try my father cable it's show me like that

i really give up i will check anyone outside my country to send my phone so he can fix it
gave up? im facing this right now... it was charging, 77% and puff...went off and no signal of life...
I tried all button combination, tried to charge with different cables and both usb-c ports.
when i plug the phone on the pc by the side port, it shows as qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008, just like the OP and thats all...
I opened it to check the motherboard, seems ok but Im not an expert nor a professional.

Which usb port of the phone are you using when connecting phone to pc? iirc only side port will allow you to do anything, even in EDL mode

After installing pixel experience on xperia, fastboot does not start.
I tried to repair it and found out that there was an emergency mode.
Does anyone know the location of test point and gnd?

Flash modeTo enter Flash mode, make sure your phone is turned off and press and hold the Flash key Volume down when you connect your phone to the computer.
Fastboot modeTo enter Fastboot mode, make sure your phone is turned off and press and hold the Fastboot key Volume up* when you connect your phone to the computer.
* For the following devices the Fastboot key is:
Live with Walkman - Menu
Xperia arc - Menu
Xperia arc S - Menu
Xperia neo - Menu
Xperia neo V - Menu
Xperia pro - Menu
Xperia PLAY - Search
Recovery modeAfter you have flashed the latest Sony software version with the Sony Flash tool, your device is capable of booting a recovery image by pressing a key. To use the recovery mode the device must be turned off and you must hold the key Volume down while you press the Power key.
Note: The recovery image is built automatically with the AOSP code. The phone has to be disconnected from the USB cable
Seems that sony made the combinations weird

I tried all falash mode, fastboot mode and recovery mode, but there was no response. I removed the battery of xperia and tried all three, but there was no response.
Sorry, I'm not good at English, so I use a translation.
oh thats fine,
So you are having the flashing red light issue or just complete death?

When no usb is connected, pressing any button does not respond. When you insert the usb, the red LED lights up. It does not blink. However, if you remove the battery and connect the USB, the red LED will blink 3 times and then the LED will stay on.

So I've had a couple of PMs regarding how I solved my red light blinking issue, so I've decided to make a post here regarding it.
1. Get a 2A charger. This can be the charger of a Nexus 7 (personally tested), Galaxy S4/Note 3/Note 2, maybe Xperia Z series.
2. Connect the charger to the wall outlet and turn it on. Don't plug your phone in, yet.
3. Hold the power button and when the red light flashes, plug it in.
4. After a few seconds, try to turn it on. If it does, great! If not, try step 4a.
4a. Find a universal charger (one like this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OfhtRV9_Q...zRpqe1BZ4/s640/universal_Charger.11393034.jpg) and charging your battery with it. After about an hour, take the battery out, put it in the phone, and turn it on. If it does, awesome! If not, calm down. It's going to be okay. Probably. I'm seriously sorry; your phone is dead.
5. Keep charging till it's about 10-20%, then charge to 100% with the original charger.
You can stop after step 4 if your phone is dead. R.I.P your Xperia device, if so.

I have an option for last resort to force a charge into a phone. Don't try this unless you have to. I'm not familiar with your phone but have done this on a few droid razrs and even Asus tablets.
First find an old USB cord that you no longer need. Cut the head off and strip the wires back enough there should be 3 wires. You only need the red and black. Strip them so they are separated and have room to work with em. Next figure out what contact is positive on the battery and negative on the battery. Try taping the red to the positive and black to the negative. Make sure they do not touch eachother. And leave on charger for at least 30 minutes. Do not try to fully cage a battery this way would possibly over charge the battery and could cause damage or even harm.
They droid razrs would get the white light of death and the first nexus 7 by asus did something similar where the battery dies and power going into the changer isn't being sent to the battery this negates the computer and forces a small charge into the battery once Bootable the phone should charge regularly good luck

I used a voltmeter to measure the voltage on the battery.
As a result, we were able to measure the same voltage as the voltage indicated on the battery.
So it seems that the battery is not the cause.
If there is no better way, I will store the xperia and buy another smartphone.
I am ignorant.
I hope someone can resolve this symptomatology.
