Question AOD Battery Consumption - Redmi Note 10 Pro

Has anyone else noticed that AOD on this phone is a real battery hog? And that's regardless of rom.....stock or custom.
I don't know what is causing it but I've had several roms on this phone, AOSP and MIUI based and AOD just sucks the battery . I also have a Pixel 4a 5G and AOD on it is nowhere near as bad on battery life as the Redmi.
Any ideas anyone?

The Chinese screen of an unknown manufacturer, therefore, they do not make a full-fledged AOD, but limit it to 10 seconds.

I didn't realise that it was a Chinese panel. I assumed it would be Samsung.

It may not be AOD consuming excess battery but rather running background apks.
This is common on Androids.

I've turned off AOD as I also had a battery drain. I only needed it as replacement for my notification led. I'm using NotifyBuddy instead which works fine.

It is disabled for a reason on MIUI... Xiaomi replied it's an intended feature, so they won't fix it.

That's less than reassuring.
So much for engineering prowess. Guess their chipset reverse engineering department needs some fresh... blood.

I think if the screen refreshed at 60hz on aod instead of 120, this battery drain could've been avoided.

Without using AOD BB should be quite normal

Check other background apps that might be running or install a custom kernel that might provide better DS than stock.

Battery drain

So I am currently on 5.1.1 rooted with Franco kernel. Before updating to 5.1.1 I had 3h and 44 mins SOT and still 16% battery left. I read that flashing Franco kernel will help my battery but I am currently on 55% battery with 1h and 40 min of SOT. I have greenifyed all the battery draining apps like Facebook etc and I don't have any widgets expect Google keep. I have attached couple of pictures if someone could please look through them? I did several factory resets and still the same battery life. I am just browsing and watching YouTube videos. Now I only get 3hrs and 15 minutes before my phones dies
It's driving me nuts, I read that Franco kernel will help my battery life but it's still the same. I have around 40-50% screen brightness.
Have you done any modifications to your CPU or anything like that?
Profiles/governors etc.

No nothing. Just flashed Franco kernel free app so I can't adjust any governor
regardless what you were told, flashing kernels does not help battery. its your use and the quality of your signal that will determine your battery life. kernels might help you in saving battery, because they all change how the CPU works, but its up to you to save battery, not the kernel.

Yeah I read that you'll get better battery life with Franco but I don't know. Is there something unusual from my screenshots? Is there anything I can do? I mean I am using my phone as normal as possible and I even turned of lte and running only on 3g. I just want to know what the culprit is. I even removed viber but it's still the same issue

what percent brightness do you use? I keep mine at about 0-10% mostly, and average around 5.5h sot. if I raise my brightness to about 30-35%, I lose about an hour of sot. but really, its all about what you are doing with your phone. if you are a heavy gamer, you'll see much less sot because CPU intensive games will go through the battery quickly.
Your best shot is getting the full version of FK app and then controlling your CPU.

actually, 0-10% isn't that dark. if you set adaptive brighrnes, 0-10% will actually be darker. 0-10% is fine for me, unless out in the sun. but with 50% brightness, I'd say 3.5h sot is actually fine.

Really? I have 50% on all of my phones. I'll try 10% and see. Is activating the adaptive brightness good for battery life?
Just want to know really if my apps and system is behaving correctly. If it's the brightness that is the issue then it's a relief. But I read that everyone got better battery life with 5.1.1 except me :-/ I mean I have Bluetooth off, gps off, hepatic feedback and sounds etc all are off. Even Google now is off

no, adaptive brightness is bad for battery life.
and for the majority, battery life is exactly the same on 5.1.1, like before. as many people that claim better battery life, just as many, if not more, will say its the same, or worse.

Yeah that might be hit or miss with every update. But I still feel like one should get better SOT even with like 40-50% screen brightness, I have all the big battery hogs turned off like GPS etc

first off, paying for the full app will give you what, more control of your CPU? do you know how to control tour CPU? if so, there are many FREE CPU control apps. learn what you are doing first, then buy the app. secondly, no one that uses 50% brightness gets great battery life. the screen uses the most battery, raising brightness to 50% will just let it use MORE battery.

What's the best setup for optimal battery life?

I only really use my z1 for Spotify, LINE, reddit and Facebook. Currently the battery life isn't so great as it needs charged during the day..
What's the best rom/firmware etc to flash which will give me the best battery performance?
I've not been on xda for quite some time so I'm a bit out of the loop,I did some looking but couldn't find a definitive answer.
Cheers!

I'm on stock but rooted lollipop, with Stamina mode and Greenify helping each other out. Also I underclock down to 1GHz but I'm not quite sure if it helps.
On all my past devices running the stock firmware almost always makes the most out of your battery.

Sorry for late reply, didn't get notified.
I think that's normal pretty normal battery if you use Spotify+LINE+reddit+Facebook with 2 out of 4 signal o__o
Well the thing is that when you play music on spotify, your phone cannot sleep.
You should try to get a better signal/reception of wi-fi and cellular. I have read that these without good signal could cause battery drain, as you see, cell standby at 9%. Sorry I don't know how to improve those but :/ yeah..
Maybe try "Stamina Mode" if you didn't activate it (It should have a + logo next to the battery when activated)?
Lower your brightness if you can, that's the biggest drain!
At last, for a rom suggestion,I don't have because I'm stuck on stock roms ._. , maybe try some custom roms when you have free time

What's keeping my phone awake? (Screenshots)

I finally took the plunge and rooted. I've never had to in the past, but right now I'm trying to figure out what the hell is sucking up my battery.
Here's what I have so far: http://imgur.com/a/ki8bY
Having this scenario, what would you say chews away at my battery?
I think Spotify is at the top of the list because I was actually using it, so I don't think it is an issue. However, when I look at screen on time vs awake time, I see numerous occasions where the phone is awake without me using it.
That graph just shows us surface of the iceberg, use better battery stats
Or GSAM and/or Wakelock detector.
You would be getting a good estimate of what's eating your battery.

Mine is pretty good, stock 4.0.3+ElementalX kernel with default settings
i also have this issue its just android taking lots of battery and not letting the device sleep
I had the same issue, greenify and naptime solved it and i know drain 0.2% an hour overnight on 4. , Android's built in doze is still not good enough imo.

greenify root mode agressive doze eabled, naptime aggressive doze enabled. Not sure really of the benefit of having both as they seem to do the same thing but i saw better results using both, naptime doesn't mess with whatsapp but greenfiy would do so that leads me to believe they work differently.

Follow the instructions for Elemental X kernel tweaking and you should be getting between 6 to 10 hours of SOT time.

However, I sort of agree with the first comment. You have a beast of a phone and you're underclocking it to achieve better battery life? Sounds strange :S
@Lancez What settings are you running on yours? Plain default as it comes out of the box?
I didn't bother with greenify anymore, I just enabled aggressive doze in the oneplus battery settings itself and it works similarly.

[HELP]always on display not optimized

Samsung's always on display not at all optimized... because when I've left it on it consumes 7-8% of battery overnight...even i can barely get a full day usage...
but when I've turned it off and then i noticed phone consumes only 2% of battery and i can easily get a full day usage having 30-40% battery left even if i use it heavily..
is it me or everyone faces it? or am i doing anything wrong? aod shouldn't be consuming so much battery...help ??
...
AOD eats ~1% per hour, I use it on a schedule, from 1 am to 6 am, if for some reason I wake up, and need to see what time it is

Yes. Sorry! Good lock asked to re run it's optimizer. So far feels fine.
Actually I commented on the update for this version, as I prior had the note 20 ultra HK version (snapdragon dual sim) and it was notorious for not getting updated. Like ever. Was most frustrating. Glad to see the ultra does get the updates.

Yes is AUB7
because the SoC is completely different,Can't be compared
The kernel version number is still 20700993. It should be that the Exynos model has relatively large room for improvement and optimization. The Snapdragon model has limited room for improvement and optimization, but the initial performance is more stable than the Exynos model.
This is my long-term experience using two SoC versions of Samsung S series and Note series
However, the Exynos model encountered major problems. The optimization efficiency is improved and the speed of pushing updates will be faster than the Snapdragon model (except for the S20 / Note20 series of the Korean Snapdragon version)

I'm just curious as to what people who keep having bad battery life have running/installed in their phones. It very well could be an app problem, but I suppose that it could also just be a Exynos related problem - I just haven't seen any deeper detailed explanations of the problem.
Would you mind telling me a bit more so that I can get a full understanding of this battery usage issue? I have the SD888 version and this phone has the best battery of any device that I've ever had prior... Fill me in if you can. Thanks!

i just did a full reset for my phone, coz i heard that using smartwatch does affect the battery. i just will try anything for the moment.
ok so, the phone for me is super, i do not care about benchs or whatever, it does wat i ask and more except for battery it is draining fast. i get 5SOT when lucky, i have 5g on, 120hz, fhd, Bluetooth, sync, auto rotate, basically everything not gonna lie.
but i think anyone do the same, i have duel sims both on, i never connect to WiFi coz im always out.
am i being a whiner ? or should i get more than that?
i had an s20fe before and i think it used to last more.
the thing is i see battery draining once i use the device, like i see it lol
no heating tho or any other issues, i have package disabler on so anything useless i kill it asap.
wdyt?

am i being a whiner ? or should i get more than that?
i had an s20fe before and i think it used to last more.
the thing is i see battery draining once i use the device, like i see it lol
no heating tho or any other issues, i have package disabler on so anything useless i kill it asap.
wdyt?

Thanks for responding! Hmm, interesting. I can usually hit 5 hours SOT with 120hz and 1440P enabled, however, that only brings me to around 40-50% battery.
Maybe it's got something to do with that package disabler app. I don't have any potentially continuous background apps running on my phone and I also use Samsung's built-in battery options (sleep mode and deep sleep mode) for apps that I don't need/receive notifications from. Aside from that, the only other thing that I've done was remove almost all of the stock, built-in Samsung apps over ADB as I happen to use all Google apps (and doing so over ADB is the only reliable way to do so on Samsung devices).
Perhaps one or all of those things are what is helping me out - so give em' a try if you'd like to. But let me know how the phone reset works on your battery life! I hope that you can get it sorted out!

Hmmm , interesting .
I use package disabler coz it serves as the ADB method but this doesn't require a PC.
Might try that one as well.
So you only removed the srock apps, nothing out of ordinary?
Coz some lists asks to move too much which becomes weird.
Did the fresh install, awaiting a full charge to complete and will give it a test run.
Thank you mate, will update for sure.
Most of the battery drain for me is associated with the crazy google play services. I can't figure out why this service is draining on average 3.5% per day! I have tried every trick in the book but nothing seems to work
Can someone please tell me whats the name of the weather provider in the samsungs weather app? Thanks..

I'm pretty sure that it uses information from weather (dot) com.
*Edit* - Just checked and it's actually Accuweather. Live and learn I guess, haha.

Hmm, interesting. I guess the package disabler app should work then. But yeah, I've only removed stock, Samsung apps that I could directly replace with Google apps (things like phone, messages, calendar, calculator, etc) - so nothing out of the ordinary. It just stinks that Samsung made it so that the user cannot disable those untouched apps in the settings like they can on most other phones... Regardless, I'm still hoping that your reset does the trick! But with that said, just remember to give the phone a few full charge uses prior to giving it a battery duration test (as it usually takes like 3-4 full battery uses for this phone to adapt to your usage).

I can only speak from *my* experience but running 5G/LTE almost continuously as opposed to Wifi would probably drop my battery life by at least 33-40%. This is from my experience with my Note 9 when travelling overseas and not having access to wifi. With my S21 ultra, since having it I have 80% of the time been on wifi.
