Question Best way to do a backup before warranty repair? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

What is the best way to make a backup before I send my phone for warranty repair? I sent phones before, but always had a root and could simply do a nandroid + titanium backup but now as I have no root, can I somehow make a backup of application data or not really? What options do I have?
I do not know if they are going to wipe me phone, issue I have is related to vibration motor, not sure if they must replace it or just put more pressure to screw, either way it should not affect system but I have so many personalised apps that I simply would like to have them back as soon as possible.
Any ideas?

Samsung Smartswitch works well especially if apps get wiped out. In most instances they're reinstalled consistent with their original installation.

Oh thanks, first time I hear about it, I mean I was sure it can be used to transfer data from one phone to another, can it also make a copy of the apps on lets say pc?

You should already have all critical data redundantly backed up.
Unfortunately you don't have a SD card which can serve as the data drive. I can do a full reload from my SD card, it in turn is backed up on 3 different drives.
SmartSwitch can save some settings and most data.
Don't trust it. Be ready if it fails.
Make at least 2 hdd copies of all critical data. App that allow you to save their settings do so.
Use ApkExport to make installable copies of all your apps and updates.
APK Export (Backup & Share) - Apps on Google Play
Manage and extract your apps.

It saves all data and apps which are on your device to your laptop or desktop. It for the most part reinstalls them consistent with the original installation. Typically it struggles with System Apps, however those are easily reloaded with a Factory Reset. I'm not aware of any apps which can be transferred to a smartphone which are on a dedicated windows platform. Windows and Android apps aren't of similar structure or compatibility.

Don't know or heard of any app that can backup your app data if it's not rooted. Most app data is saved in the protect sector of the phone. Without root... don't think so.

Wiping and then restoring apps and data

Hrm, how can I say =P
I`m running the last cyanogenmod right now (3.9.5)
I never wiped my phone since I came from JF1.51 (yes, I had to wipe after starting using cyanogenmod
I want to make a wipe when getting to 3.9.6 and clean my ext3 partition as well...
I have a lot of apps configured and don`t want to loose then! Also, I don`t want to loose my configs of that apps (some are hard to configure =P)
How should I proceed?
obs. sorry for my bad english =P
You can try backing up your appdata using one of the various apps on the market (backup for root users, etc.). But theres no real guarantee that its going to work. I doubt the settings will even be saved. You're more than likely going to have to re-set up all of your apps to get them how you want. Thats just the downside of playing with custom roms.
I see =P
thanks man! I`ll try that!
What would be better? Backup for root or Mybackup pro?
I just want to backup my apps, marketdb and the config data of apps
I would stay away from Mybackup pro.... It corrupts the data so that you cannot use the sync features for contacts anymore in gmail. It also corrupts the text message data so that you cannot use SMSBackup. If neither of these don't bother you then Mybackup pro is worth the money except it bothers me now because I want to backup my text messages to my gmail with SMSbackup and I cannot because SMSbackup cannot read them due to whatever Mybackup Pro did to them while it was backing them up..

You got lucky then! Even after I reflashed, I had no luck restoring my contacts. What I had to end up doing was restoring from what little I had on the SIM card from way back in the day and update the rest by hand. It took a long time but was worth it because now I can use gmail sync without any worries. I will forever stay away from MyBackup Pro! Wish I could get my money back LOL
to back up ur stuff like game saves use this app http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.protocol.x.su.fbs
once installed make ur way to the root of your fone directory not the sd card root. once there find the folder called data click on it, then click on the folder also called data, then look for your app info [like a game save] you wanna back up, long press on it and select copy. then go back to your sd card and press menu then paste. please do not use this app for bad things, i will not say anymore.
i use it to back up my game saves from go go rescue and the bowling game.

[Q] So i know how to flash, what about the stuff around?

Hi all,
So flashing ROMs is now natural to me, I was a long time on 2.1 with lag-fix and this was enough for me, but now leaked ROMs became very good (as it sounds form people around) and I gave it a try:
I copied all my contacts to gmail account instead of phone memory
I'm backing up my text messages and then can restore them
What's left is applications with their settings and more important their market entries this is something I'm asking you about - I'm doing backup with Titanium, then when i restore i need to press "install" and "done" buttons on each and every app and in the end i see that there was no market entries for any of those applications, so they won't get updated.
Ok then, I thought, maybe AppBrain will help me, while it's on my working ROM it's cool - I can sync my apps, see updates etc. but when i switch to nude from apps rom and then sync the AppBrain syncs and removes all the apps i had there so also nothing here...
Maybe I'm just doing something wrong - I would very appreciate to know how you do all this stuff right!
Thanks!

Titanium backup backs up your app+data. When you're restoring them, did you press app+data instead of just app?
I don't know why that would happen since I always get my market entries back.

I guess that I actually did used app+data option, or at least all the programs did remembered my settings (doesn't that means that i restored also the data?)
also is there a way to restore apps without pressing "install" and "done" on every one of them?
Thanks in advance

You have to buy the pro version for that feature. I HIGHLY recommend it. It is so useful and saves you so much time. And the dev is extremely helpful and supportive of his app.
Try restoring their data and see if that works. If not, try re-downloading them and back the files up again.

Do what koreancanuck's suggesting - try to reinstall all apps + data and keep your fingers crossed. I also have the pro version of TiBu - agreeing to install every single app after a new ROM installation is the last thing I want to do.
If you still can't get your apps working after installing apps + data then you'll just have to go through the Market to download them again. At least you can still see which apps you already had via TiBu. I feel like sometimes it's better to start over when you've just installed a fresh ROM, rather than restore from TiBu, because then you can really see which apps you want and which ones were just wasting space.

Messed up my phone need help!

Before I even begin, I was a nub didn't know much about rooting and did it anyways. I suppose I have learned it the hard way and now I must pay.
I rooted my phone and everything went fine.
Before knowing much about Titanium Backup Pro I instead of "freezing" application I have accidentally deleted some apps that I shouldn't have.
When I say my phone is messed up I don't mean not "operational"
I can still use it for day to day but for instant.
I deleted backup manager and now I can't even restore my backups from verizon online.
I also when I try to call somebody from my contacts list I get this error
The application Contacts Storage (process com.motorola.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I have random errors like that all the time.
I have unrooted and did a factory reset but to no avail.
Is there anything out there that could help get my phone back to the way it was when I received it?
I know its my fault for not learning but there must be something out there
Any help is appreciated.
When you first rooted, a backup is usually created. Go to your recovery and look for backup and restore and restore it.

Thanks for that quick response, could you be more specific about "Go to your recovery and look for backup" Where do I exactly go. Went around settings but couldn't find backup
There is no backup unless you made a backup.
And there's no recovery mode on the Droid 3 yet either.

Thank you for the responses guys.
I have played with it but I can honestly say I have not been able to get it to work.
I have tried following the instructions, even bought Root Explorer but can still not figure it out.
I attached a picture of the error. I just can't seem to do anything to get it fixed. Also I was attempting to re-install backup manager without success.....
Anybody that can help out? Is there maybe an easier way to get back to defaults maybe somebody have an image or something of a stock operating system that could be copied? sorry I have no idea of this stuff yet still learning

Ok here is what I do. Let me know if I am doing ANYTHING wrong at all.
I load up root explorer and transfer my backupmanager.apk and .odex from ex-sdcard to /system/app
then I change the permission to r/w
press and hold the file and go to permission. There I set Owner to Read/Write and Group, Others just have read privilages.
Hold the file again. Then I scroll to the bottom to change owner and group to 0 - root...
Reboot...
The program doesn't appear in my apps? Anything I did wrong?
First off, you are doing it correctly. However, I'm not sure if backup assistant is even an app you can launch from the drawer. You have to launch the "My Accounts" app. Second, you can check if it worked by going into titanium backup, and looking for the app. If the name of the app is in red, then you did it correctly.
Hey thanks for that reply! I have looked into it and like you said, it was there in red but now I can't find the my accounts app all I can find is the my verizon wireless app and our doesn't have any backup functions from what I can tell.
Let me ask you this since you seen to be pretty knowledgeable. I have all the apps on my computer from that file above! Would I be able to just copy paste them with root explorer to /system/apps and then do a system factory restore would that work? Or do I have to manually find the apps I stupidly deleted and do it one by I've like I have been?

If you can't find the app, just go into Settings>Accounts.
As for your question: Unfortunately, it's not that easy (I would know, that's one of the first things I tried when I was fixing that contacts bug ). You would have to set the permissions and owners for every apk and odex file from the system dump. However, that contacts bug should've been fixed if you reinstalled those yahoo apps the same way you reinstalled the backup assistant.
Btw, you do know that backup assistant is pretty pointless since all of your contacts are synced with your Google account, right? People have reported no problems when removing the backup assistant app.
And thanks! I'm no android guru like many others here; just trying to help others with a similar problem that had me stumped for a good hour.
Thanks again. I've located the app but it still gives me troubles and not bein able to sync with the online server please call *811 or something like that. The only reason why I care its because I actually did backup all my contacts to the backup client but couldn't get them back on the phone now! I figured it out last night with syncing to gmail and it worked but still trying to get it back to normal. I will just have to do the rest manually haha! Appreciate it a lot!

I got that error message even without root with all of the system apps in place. Backup Assistant is just a poorly-coded app.
I'm pretty sure you didn't do much damage to your phone. I mean, as long as you didn't remove any other authenticators or other apps that blur needs in order for it to function, you should be fine just reinstalling the yahoo apps I told you about. After all, that looks like it's the only error you're getting.
And no problem.
Alright so now I need urgent help!
I went through the entire applications that I was missing and I gave them all permission etc. Rebooted my device and now I am stuck in this screen.
It's an endless loop because I get the error message and can't exit out of it.
Anything that can be done at all?
Haha, oh wow. I knew I wasn't the only one with that problem. Accounts loved to crash on me whenever I reset my phone. You can fix this one of two ways: hold the search button on your phone until it launches voice search. Say anything; as long as it launches the browser, you'll be fine. Once the search is performed, search for an apk for another home launcher. The accounts app basically hijacked your home button, so you'll need another launcher in order to get your home button back.
The second way involves using the desk dock. If you have one, then go into productivity mode. There should be an app drawer there. Open up the market, and install the launcher of your choice.
Once again, I had this problem even before root, so I'm not sure what the cause for this was.

Also let me ask you this. If I do a factory reset. Do I have to re-do the whole application proccess to give them permissions or should they be right now
Once it's a system app, it will always be a system app, even after resetting the phone. You should be fine.

Difference between 'Freezing' with Ti, and renaming to .bak with RE?

So now that we have root and we're all getting rid of the bloat, can someone help me understand the difference between using Titanium Backup to 'Freeze' an app, and using Root Explorer to semi-delete it by renaming it to .bak?
Which is better? They're both reversible, so does it make any difference?
Thanks!

They both have the same effect; the file is no longer able to be executed. If those are your 2 options, I personally would prefer freezing with Titanium Backup because it's much easier to do and much easier to reverse it.
I, on the other hand, did a factory reset, immediately backed up everything to my SD card (after uninstalling Nova and that stupid Golf game), and then used Titanium Backup to Uninstall all the bloatware I did not want. I ended up uninstalling 32 apps. Freezing would've had the same outcome, but I prefer those apps to be completely gone on my phone...I despise them that much.
If an OTA is ever released, I'll simply reinstall all of them from the Titanium Backup on my external-SD and voila, phone is as it was right after a hard reset.
Hope this helps.
Don't make the same mistake I did and freeze/uninstall "Yahoo Mail Authenticator" ... it causes the contacts (when you open a particular contact) to force close.

Maybe because he hasn't came across the issue yet. I had the same problem when I froze this app. Contacts would FC. Restored it and it returned to normal.
It's best to try freezing (or renaming) one or two programs at a time, test the phone, then continue. Doing them all at once makes for a big headache when trying to find the offending program.
I had same problem with contacts also. defrosted yahoo and worked done

Google never restores apps when I set up a new phone

I can't get Google to restore apps after a factory reset.
I have keep phone backed up checked and select restore my phone when signing in.
However it doesn't and when I go to play store or use any Google app it asks me to sign in again and restore phone isn't an option, kust the check box to keep phone backed up.
How do I fix this?

After flashing hundreds of roms I have found googles restore feature to work about 5% of the time. I think you are just out of luck if you want to rely on that. I use titanium backup and while it's not perfect, it works much more reliably then google restore.
