Question How many are trading in for the Fold 3? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

I'd really love to if the camera wasn't a step down.
As of now I can't do it.

Even I have an S21 (so the camera is not much of a step down) the Fold 3 comes with other disadvantages that make it unappealing: more bulky, less resistant screen, less overall mechanical durability (mostly because of the hinge), price, most apps are not taking advantage of the big screen.

A Note will likely be released in 2022... they have a much better track record.

Flip 3 is much nicer than that brick.

I was so eagerly awaiting the fold 3 that I sold my S21 Ultra before the zfold3 release. I was stuck using my iPhone 12 PM for over a month. Now when I found out the price was $2608 CAD after taxes so I ended up re-buying an open box s21 ultra for $950, a 256GB Zflip3 for $1528 and a Galaxy watch 4 classic for $344 with the $200 rebate. I'll recoup the $208 difference when I sell my almost new Galaxy watch 3.
At that price I simply can't justify the zfold3 with its 2019 camera system. At least with the flip I can play with it for a while and gift it to my wife later.
The S21 ultra is simply the best phone out there for the moment. I'll probably buy the Pixel 6 pro too and the iPhone 13
But the Zfold3 gets a pass this year. Maybe next year...

Trading in an s21u for a fold 3 is a pretty foolish decision. See Mr. WHosetheboss's review on it on youtube.
The phone is cool but not that cool.

The Fold 3 doesn't seem to be a good value at $1800.00 (256GB), $1,900.00 (512GB) USD plus tax for the features on or not on the device. 4400 mAh Battery for a very large and brighter display, 25W Charging, So-So Cameras, Snapdragon 888 SoC is the same as the S21. Then consider you'll always have a crease down the center of the display. Samsung is offering generous trade-in promotions but those didn't work on the
S21 in worldwide sales. Difficult to imagine Samsung's stated goal to increase sales 3 times more than the Fold 2 is realistic. Bottom line, not enough phone for the $$$.

Is it really worth the price?

Hi everyone!
The note 9 has just been released and I already saw the price tag in my country.
In my county, the phone cost 1249,- euro. That is a lot! That is for the 512gb 8gb ram version.
The 128gb 6gb ram version cost 1050,- euro. Still expensive!
There are some pretty cool new features on the phone but I don't really think its worth the price.
The price will drop in time of course, but I still think when it dropped, its still way too expensive. U can get a better deal for a greater price.
So... what do you think?
I think it's very expensive and in Switzerland where I live now they don't give you any incentives so i will pass. I am very happy at the moment with my mate 10 pro.
Not for me. I got a s8 and can get a great deal on note 8

exactly! Also very happy with my oneplus 6 here
I think it's too expensive as well. Happy with my XZ2.
I think looking at the s9 plus or the lg g7 both have the same specs and are around 500 dollars now so yes it is very expensive for the premium to have the stylus.
Everyone is on here complaining about the price but honestly the note has always been the more expensive device. The Note 8 was $990 when it came out and the S9 Plus was $930. I mean the higher the memory and higher the ram yes its going to get more expensive just like everything when you get a upgraded model. If you don't like the price go with the base model. It's pretty simple or just dont get it period.
or, get a note 8, for a ton less, and almost identical features...
if you have the note 8 it isn't worth it , if you have s8 plus you might want to due to dual cameras you missed last year. I don't think its worth it right now 1000$ is a bit too much.
Specially when the s9+ can do the same thing as this phone besides the pen and the note 8 already has 90% of s pen features (except for useless pen remote thingy).
The only encouraging upgrade is the battery [but we haven't seen battery drain tests comparison yet]. The storage is not encouraging why? most of us have 128 GB SD Cards in our pockets and 512 GB SD Cards are expensive.
Make no mistake its a great phone but its only worth it if you use the pen and if you find the s9+ or note 8 battery capacity not enough for you , other wise the s9+ or the note 8 (depending if you want to shoot 4k 60 fps or 1080p 60 fps for 60 fps videos) is pretty good and almost has the same Camera features [Even in low light they are VERY close with all 3 of them having dual cameras and the amazing live focus features].
Personally I rather wait 1 year for price cuts [considering you have either note 8 / s9+].
I bought my Note 8 new for 600$ because I couldn't justify 950$. Now Note 8 is 600$ , I would wait until the price goes down.
Definitely worth it.
just faster CPU performance already worth it to upgrade from note8

There is no answer to your question. Its relative.
If you want transport buy a bicycle, if you want to go one better buy a motorbike......Car....What car, a 4,500€ Yugo or a 1.5 million euro Roller?
Same with all tech purchases. Watches...... Buy a Swatch watch for 50€ or a Patek Philippe For half a million€ Its relative.
Got mobile phones here for 35.00€ Oddly enough THAT to me is a waste of money. If the Note 9 was made by Apple it would cost ?1,800.00€? and because it carries the Apple brand it would sell like hot cakes.
The Note series was never intended for mass sales as the S9 is. The note series is one of four styles in the 9 group. If you don't need nor use the S-pen buy the S9+ or the still cheaper S9.
So much to consider. My first lap top cost me twice this price in November 2000 and the specs!! ....650MHz processor. 6GB hard drive. 64Mb SDRAM memory etc.....
I think considering what the Note 9 does its incredible, not to mention only 36 months ago such technology would be only in ones dreams.
Unsure how one can value such a device? Very difficult. 1k for a smart phone, but then again its not just any smart phone is it.

I still love it there though, beautiful country.
But for me totally worth every penny, all $1500 of them

Marginal camera improvements.

the s9 has been a flop sales figures wise though....I seriously suspect N9 price will plunge in October / pre xmas sales and competition with Apple X11 or Huawei. Samsung are loosing ground and I don't believe this does anything to stop that....
My country have a promo. Buying the 128gb model will get free upgrade to 512gb.
And base in the exchange rate, it cost about 890 euros . This is from Singapore by the way.

Agreed.
Why buy the same phone as last year but with a wireless s pen that takes shots. I am still waiting for samsung to update their selfie camera to be as good as the back.
Also you are right about the argument "cuz cpu will be faster yeaa cuz its a car not a smartphone that goes 1 milisecond faster in opening Apps than past year"
Since when did Note 8 lag. And if Clock speed is the argument then you will just upgrade every 6 month due to fastest processor and waste your money

Invalid argument. Did you know the note 9 has lower ppi than the note 8 with the same screen resolution. Will that stop you from buying Note 9?
Oh and the s10 will be 2 miliseconds faster, will you buy it too?
The speed you won't notice unless you compare them side by side. In your daily tasks you won't just say "Hm i saved 2 miliseconds." Again unless this is a racing car, this is not a valid argument.
Beside the fact nore 9 and note 8 software is the same.
And 0.1 increase in screen size and lower ppi.
Isn't 4G LTE good enough? Fast enough ?
I wonder why wireless carriers throwing million$ and million$ to build 5G networks

Any reason to upgrade to the Galaxy Note 20 (Ultra)?

I want your thoughts. Why would or wouldn't I upgrade from a Galaxy Note 9 to the new Galaxy Note 20 (or Note 20 Ultra)?
Here's what I think/understand about the situation:
The Galaxy Note 9 still works fine
Android 10 will be the last Android upgrade the Note 9 will see.
One UI Updates for the Galaxy Note 9 until One Ui 2.5. Note 9 users won't get One UI 3.0 and beyond
It looks like us Note 9 users will continue to receive security updates. But, for how long?
Of course the Galaxy Note 20/Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are going to be better devices than the Note 9 in terms of specs, that's to be expected. If my screen was cracked, I could justify an upgrade.
Any other compelling reasons or features that would make one want to upgrade?
Bottom line, people will get one for their own reason. Or get one because they have had every Note since Note 1.

No
The Note9 has:
No notch or hole display
Headphone jack
Led notification light
Iris scanner
Heart rate monitor
Bixby button (yes i say it as an advantage, I've made it a mute toggle via BxActions app)
Better rear camera design (personal opinion)
Hard press home button
More reliable rear placed physical fingerprint sensor
512GB storage (I'm comparing the 512/8 GB model as that's the best Note9 model)
Note20 Ultra has:
Ultrawide camera
S Pen air actions
No bixby button (can be advantage or disadvantage)
Wireless powershare
Ultra wide band chip which they advertised
5G
Longer software update support
Honestly the Note9 seems like a better device imo. The features it has are very useful in every day situations.
The only thing missing from it which would have been nice is the Ultra wide camera which isn't as big of a deal as the headphone jack or a nice looking uninterrupted display. Cameras on Note9 still take amazing pictures and video. Everyone who sees them is surprised how good they are. I just bought my 512 Exynos 5 months ago and am loving it more than any device that launched after it. Also don't care for software updates so that's that. It got Android 8.1 out of the box, got Android 9, got Android 10 with OneUI 2.0, got OneUI 2.1 and seems like it will get OneUI 2.5. I mentioned UI updates as those introduce more features than an OS update Basically you've almost got a Note20 Ultra in terms of software but you've also got more features which you'd actually use daily. And that Ocean Blue with the yellow S Pen looks awesome
PS: The regular Note20 is a joke and shouldn't even be considered.
If there is something that YOU need on the Note 20/20 Ultra then you get it. Don't look to us to justify a purchase. I'm not trying to be rude just being honest.
At the end of the day you're going to do what you feel you want. We can't make or stop you from getting a device that you're obviously interested in
I only upgrade to Note 20 with Snapdragon 865. Mostly because I pretty hate the curved screen on Note 9. Too inconvenient
I'll get the Note 20, when i hit the lottery. The more people that buy it, the next Note will be $1500.00. If i said what i really think, i'd be barred from this forum.

I am using a Note 9 since it was launched and I love it so much. A bit disappointed that I didn't get the 512gb variant because it cost about $300 more.
You can install a 512gb SD card. I won't touch the Note 20 now, because I refuse to get a bank loan for a cell phone. In about 18 to 24 months, I could get one for half the price.

Note 4 was the last smartphone that made sense to buy/keep and, sadly, it was neglected by the majority of the community (the Exynos version, thankfully there have been a couple of developers doing their magic). I hate the curved, narrow screen of the sequels, among other things. At least my Notes 9 and 8 still have a headphone jack. I wouldn't "upgrade" to antyhing over 9 even if they paid me.

If we have learned anything form the S20 Ultra is that the Laser Auto Focus on the Note 20 Ultra would probably be very glitchy. Samsung will continuous be releasing software updates to try and fix it.

Because most Samsung Notes do not even last 2 years.
No I will not be upgrading.
1. Enoughf with dumping the crappy chips on us in India. If you want our business offer us the option of buying the CPU we want or upgrade Indias status to first world i.e. give us the same chip sets as USA and China get.
2. Missing HR and O2 sensors which I use every day to measure my BP, Tune my medication.
3. You never know with Samsung what bug will crop up when. The S20 screens with the crappy Indian market chip started turning green. All over India after the s/w update.
4. In a few months you will know what the bugs are and it will be cheaper.
5. These phones are getting to be more like walking around with a glass egg that will scratch, bend, break. Each new version seems to get more delicate and more fragile.
6. The tension of walking around with and using a 1000+ phone is just not worth it. I find walking around with a cheap phone so liberating.
My Fav Note was the 4 and the 9.

If I could've held on to my 4 for a bit longer I would've. It had root, custom roms, plus I had an extended battery on mine. So I honestly understand what you mean. These things are getting more expensive, yet hilariously less durable.
The entire world isn't treated equally when it comes to chipsets and that leads to mixed issues that typically might not get fixed. Honestly? Me understanding what Samsung is doing and the piss poor reasoning behind it has lead me to start looking into other OEM. Like nokia, motorola, one plus. Just someone else with a better Android experience without the bs price tag but with decent specs and a bomb camera.
I agree...
I love my note9 and i would want to continue with more longer as i can. I bought it in August 2018. The first day arrival. 512 GB purple colour...still click amazing photos...
It rocks. I was waiting eagerly for note20 1 TB phone...but sorry will not shift to Note20.
I'm keeping my Note 9
I've read a lot of reviews and YouTube videos hyping the Note 20 Ultra and I don't see a reason to upgrade. My Note 9 will be paid off this month and I couldn't be happier. After receiving the OneUI 2.1 update, I noticed excessive battery drain and couldn't get through a whole day anymore without having to charge it. I reset my phone last week, and in addition to enabling an Adaptive Power setting, I have been able to restore all day use of my phone. It's working better than before so for me, I see no reason to upgrade.
There's a reason the phone is overpriced, yet the carriers are offering discounts up to 50% to encourage you to upgrade. I have a conspiracy theory that there may be something wrong with the phone that will come up in the first 6 months of widespread consumer use. (Remember the Note 7?) I don't usually jump on the "I NEED to upgrade right away" bandwagon for that particular reason. It's a major marketing ploy by Samsung to generate interest from the "Gotta have it NOW!" crowd. I know what you're doing Samsung and I'm not falling for it. I'm still part of the unemployed masses, so I'll be spending my money on more worthwhile things like feeding and housing my family. I plan on rocking my 9 for as long as I possibly can.
Note 9 is quite a classic phone, I will replace a battery to continue using it!It has been confirmed that One Ui 2.5 will be updated!

I just bought a silver one. I haven't been big on new flagships for many years now. The price of 1-3 year old models feels much closer to the real cost of its worth. Especially if people are to upgrade yearly or biyearly.
Nice! Enjoy I also don't like newer flagships after the S10+ probably (though I don't like its hole punch at all, the rest is great - last true S flagship for me). They want more and more money and offer less and less features..

Question Verizon S21 Ultra 512GB Sold Out everywhere

That's a Verizon Q.
Useless you need to replace now, waiting until the next model release might give you better options or a better price/deal on the 512 gb variant.
I'm not buying any of Samsung's latest offerings.
Between the hardware and Android 11 I'm not impressed. Still happy with my Note 10+ running fast, stable and functional on Pie.

No SD card support and another massive cam hump. Lame rounded display corners. No intergrated Spen with a huge price tag.
Maybe the best cam yet and intergrated 5G -may- mean it's not a battery hog like the 1st generation 5G.
5G performance is spotty at best and typical bandwidth increases are reportedly only 20%.
Fastest processor yet and fast memory but the OS is using scope storage which does eat up CPU/ram cycles for nothing.
It be a downgrade from my 10+ because of no SD card, Android's scope storage, its ugly form factor with no native spen which makes it a case nightmare. It's faster processor/ram/memory are nulled somewhat by the scope storage especially with office apps.
Not near good enough in my opinion especially at this price tag and lack of key features.
If I was the OP I would wait to see what unfolds.
The best models tend to be released near the end of the year.
At this point if I needed to replace my 10+ non 5G variant, I would go with the same model running on Pie.

Question Is it worth upgrading from S21 ultra to S22 Ultra

Hi... Currently I have the S21 Ultra and really enjoy the phone. I always wanted a note, but due to pricing in my country, I couldn't afford a note on contract. I have seen the specs for S22 ultra and is quite excited with the prospect of getting a s pen with the S22 ultra built in. I wasn't convinced to get s pen separately in a case for the S21 ultra. Will you upgrade/ who is exc2for the release of the S22 ultra??
If you REALLY miss the Note range with integral S-Pen slot then yes, maybe, and depending on price you can get selling your S21 Ultra
For all other reasons, NO the S22U is an S21U with an S-Pen slot and very few enhancements or upgrades over the 2021 models.

S22 ultra doesn't seem like a huge upgrade over the S21U. If an integrated S-Pen is an absolute must-have for you, then by all means get the new phone. But other than that, I don't see a compelling reason to buy one. The S21 Ultra is still an amazing phone even after a year. And honestly speaking, the design is so iconic, I would choose this over the S22U design anyday (based on all the leaks). But that is a highly subjective matter, so it's upto the buyer. If you can afford it and justify it, go for it. Life is short, do the things you enjoy
Not sure if it's worth but trying to beat the boredom of "life in the time of Covid" I went ahead with the reservation, aiming for the 'ultra'.
Hey, it's not a marriage - I can still send it back if I don't fall in love with it on the first sight.
I know the specs aren't that much better then the S21 ultra, but the s range has always been way cheaper in south africa then the note, so I would like to have the s pen, but it all depends on the price on contract
No, I won't be upgrading. First off there are very few improvements, nothing is innovative. Secondly there have been numerous problems in producing the Exynos/AMD SoC. Thirdly it will ship with Android 12 which to date is still plagued with numerous bugs. The S21 works much better on Android 11.
it happens to almost all phones.
i still own s10 plus, works perfectly
I also get the s21 ultra
tempteing to get s-pen th0

If you REALLY miss the Note range with integral S-Pen slot then yes, maybe, and depending on price you can get selling your S21 Ultra

Samsung is generous with trade-in, plus if you resever now, you save 50!
In south africa there is no trade in deals... Just the normal carrier deals... So, hopefully it won't be too expensive
Tbh I don't think it worth upgrading to the S22 Ultra, it's got to the point now where any improvements are only minor even the camera on the S22 Ultra will only be slightly better than the S21 Ultra, plus i wouldn't be surprised once One UI 4.1 hits the S21 Ultra these improvements are brought down from the S22 Ultra.
I've had my S21 Ultra since last July this has been hands down best phone I've ever owned from Samsung, & i've had practically most of the S range & Note's over the years, the only downside to keeping the S21 Ultra really will be waiting slightly longer for updates once the S22 series has launched.
So I'm going to keep enjoying my S21 Ultra until the S23 Ultra next year.
Will see how it goes and what offers and trade ins are available. I have always been an S series user but loved the Spen support on the Ultra. It is a beast and having got the 512gb 16gb ram I could run it another year or so without any hiccups given that I haven't used it to its full pontential due to Covid.
Only thing I am worried with the S22 Ultra is the 45 Fast Charging and the Crammed 5000mah battery which although welcome I am afraid it might have those 'burst into flames' issues samsung had and how the new amd graphics might come with its own issues with Android 12.
No doubt it will have even a more Awesome battery life compared to the S21 Ultra and better Spen support with bluetooth and stuff. I am sure with the New Expert Raw and the Spen Bluetooth functionality they will promote it as a mobile Photographers Dream phone not to mention the ease of editing with the Spen.
Have my options open and will see how it pans out.
Wouldnt want to be a guinea pig for SD 8 Gen1. New and unproven soc.
For S21 Ultra users, the trade in deal needs to be great, otherwise it is not worth the upgrade, simple as that imo
Thanks for everybody given their input....
New camera sensor for even more light/detail
New CPU with ray tracing and best GPU available (plus fastest multicore)
S-Pen with higher latency and accuracy than previous
Best screen on market with even more brightness
And hopefully flat display instead of waterfall wasteful curved screen (fingers crossed on this)
Pls upgrade is free to me, so it's a 'hell yeah' from me.

In the USA yes Samsung is ultra generous with trade-in. In UK not so much ...
Outside of US, ebay and FB Marketplace selling prices are much higher than trade in.

"New CPU with ray tracing and best GPU available"
Samsung has experienced numerous production issues with the Exynos 2200 SoC. Out of an entire wafer only a few chipsets are functional. Raytracing is misleading since there are currently no apps capable of raytracing integration on smartphones. In Geekbench 5 tests the Exynos/AMD 2200 was out performed not only by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but the Snapdragon 888 also. There may be a few good reasons to buy an S22 but hoping for a better SoC isn't one of them.
Exynos 2200 is even weaker than the Snapdragon 888
Exynos 2200 is even weaker than the Snapdragon 888. The new flagship chipset Samsung lost to all competitors.

It will probably be enough for the lower end ripoff 8GB version IF they do a trade-in

Here's how it's going to sound...you would have read all the views here and it's mostly a no to the upgrade. But, this thread was a validation for your already made up mind to go ahead with the S22U. Comrade...don't sweat it...if your heart says goes for it..and you have the means for it...go ahead enjoy! As @enigmaamit said here... life's short..enjoy it to the fullest...Go ahead...take the leap of faith...
I am definitely looking forward to the S-Pen being built in. I do a lot of photo editing using my fat fingers so having the pressure-sensitive pen will save me a lot of "undo/redo" time.
The latest "leaked images" show the screen flatter without the curved edges and I like that clean look. I can upgrade for free with my network so I am ready to leap!
