You are never too old to learn. I have learned so many things since this site was created . I remember when people were reluctant to give up their flip phone for an android device. I'm glad that I did back in the day. I'm am also glad that this site was created. Just keep visiting Xda and, by virtue of that. You will learn. Welcome to Xda fellow member.

Thanks scorpio76r. You're right from where you are bro but from where I am from Android has been exploited in so many ways by companies & government snoopers, sometimes i think I should just go back to feature phones with physical keypads lol, adroid has become more of a bane than boon out here the way it is being used by high-ups.. its just plain extortion
But I appreciate your enthusiasm.

Sad thing is that 3g is shutting down on Feb 2022. That basically kills all physical keyboard phones. I can stand to be corrected if you know of a physical keyboard phone that will operate beyond 3g. All and, all I understand your point of view.

Not all phones with a physical keyboard will shut down or not working
Awhile ago planet computers made a keyboard phone called astro slide transformer and it's a 5g phone with physical keyboard

Mostly yes I guess but I know some companies offer 4g feature phones ( keypad phones) with facebook & Whatsapp icons in them as well. 5G is coming up I heard but theyre(companies) planning to phase out 2g/3g networks soon. Its not about the networks really, more about the devices using these networks I think. (Example- for a layman, accurately locating a windows PC is slightly more difficult than an android or iphone though all these devices use the same networks & services more or less). These devices (smart gadgets) offer convenience but caveat is privacy. In places like china , russia, middle east, India and many more its clear that these devices are being monitored & gone in wrong hands or are assisting the autocratic-natured governments. I dont rule out pro-privacy/restore-privacy revlutions in the future IMAO

Automatic start for you car app???

Devs and droid lovers alike, I have just been informed that the iphone has an automatic. Start for your car app. I was doing one of my regular "android is taking oover the world" text messages to all my friends and someone responded with that... now of course I went to into the android os and the fact that its an open os and all that but needless to say, I was rocked. This will be the iphones trump if we don't do something fast. So dev, the android community is depending on you guys to study the application in question and then crush it! I know you guys can do it! Charge just as much as they do and put it on the market.. everyone will buy!
Long live ANDROID!
im not sure if its the same one but if you look in the best buy flyer it shows the viper alarm system can be bought on the iphone for $500 instead of buying the piece for your keys
I'm just gonna go ahead and say it.
This is a stupid ****ing idea.
The Android OS isn't as clean or as slick as the Iphone or as responsive, and who cares.
I saw the commercial showcasing this, and it looks good, ON THE IPHONE.

Haha I agree. Who gives a **** what the iPhone can do. We may not all like
the iPhone, but since when is this a competition?
First off you have to have something in your car for your phone to talk with. I don't plan on installing a Blue tooth gizmo so I can start my car when my car keys work just fine. Oh I do have remote start on my keys so it kinda defeats the need for an iPhone or Android version. Heck I don't even use the remote start half the time unless its really really cold outside.
As for the competition between iPhone and Android. I made my decision the day I bought my G1.
I wanna use my g1's poor accelerometer to steer my car!

Yeah...and use the barcode scanner to scan the QR code on the cop's ticket so I don't need the paper copy. The ticket I got for mowing down the guy standing on the sidewalk, starting his car with his iPhone. Applesauce all over my metal-alloy valve stem caps.
wow
For all those who say when did this become a competition I ask this question.... when you bought your g1 did you do any research at all or did you just get the coolest looking new phone you could buy, or did you let some t-mobile rep who barely know what they're talking about sucker you into buying the newest phone so they could get a cut. For the somewhat smart people out there who do research before they make a large investment or sign 2 years of a portion of their income away, when you bought the G1 you (in some way, shape, or form) said I'm smarter that everyone who has the iphone. You said "I don't care about at&t's superior network, I don't care about the iphone's superior hardware, the android OS is the best thing since slice bread and it trumps any of those other things. At the point you engaged in this competition. This is why cyanogen made this amazing ROM and one of his screen shots was of him talking to a buddy on gtalk telling him something like"the iphone will never be able do what we can do."..... now that we made that clear... if your a real dev out there and you know what I'm talking about I just want to let you know I appreciate you, even if nobody else does, I do! I mean that! Keep showing the world why the Android (open) OS is the best!

I thought our trump was the source code, let's see them come back at you with that. At&t's superior network?! All of my friends iPhones drop calls every day!
The point is that its a competition...not what the trump is...i just want to provoke anyone who up for the comp to step up!
I personally would never want to use my phone for this.. it provides too many possibilities of disaster. If you have a Bluetooth device in your car running someone will hack it sooner or later.

This does NOT run off bluetooth for one. There is essentially another cellular phone in the vehicle that receives a handshake through the SMS system.

Go put that system in and you can control it from your Cell, your house, your aunt's brother's cousin's boyfriend's sister.
Seeing as that is run off DTMF, I am sure someone could toss an app together with a macro to do certain functions automatically through a GUI

Sorry to be off topic but this post is slightly ridiculous. Yes, I knew what I was getting into when I bought a G1. And I would say my decision was also slightly based on the fact that I was already in a contract with T-Mobile. BUT the reason I chose android was not because it was BETTER than the iPhone. In fact, I never even compared it to the iPhone. But that's kind of irrelevant.
The point I want to make is that devs aren't cooking ROMs to compete with the iPhone. In fact, I would go as far as to say that there's not a single dev on this forum that is trying to compete with iPhone. Sure, maybe some of them think android is superior in some way, and maybe they think android will triumph in the smartphone market eventually, but they aren't android devs because they want to be iPhone killers

Haha nice one there
I use Blackra1n for my iPhone. Unfortunately it is a game with Apple, the same way it is with HTC they issue new OS updates/phones that can't be jailbroken/rooted, the community "breaks " them.
As of now 3.1.3 cannot be jailbroken, like the Incredible cannot be rooted. But have patience both are coming soon
Big letters all over the Apple/Hack community, Do Not Let Your iTunes Auto Update Your iPhone if You Want To Keep It Jailbroken.
From the dev team blog
Scam season
While Apple’s 3.1.3 firmware was minor in terms of new features, it’s had the side effect of opening up a huge market for scam sites. These sites will promise you a 3.1.3 jailbreak for newer devices like the iPod touch 3G, or a baseband 05.12 software unlock......Don’t fall for these scam sites! None of them have a 05.12 unlock, none have the 05.11 unlock working on 3.1.3, none have a 3.1.3 jailbreak for newer devices like the ipt3G. They’re trying to capitalize on your upgrade mistake, and they only need a very small percentage of people to fall for them to make their money and run..

Agree with Denco7 here...
And this is a general guideline for nearly all electronics. If you see that the company comes out with minor updates, 99% of the time it isn't bug fixes but rather to gap holes in their security (same goes for psp)
I did it a little while ago, i forgot the website name but you download the 3.1.2 firmwire from a 3rd party source and when you restore it in itunes you press somthing like shift + k and you can load up that wirmwire you downloaded. Then you jailbreak it with blackra1n and in cydia you can upgrade back to 3.1.3.

And no, Spirit wont help, it's just a universal JB and has nothing to do with a baseband exploit.

DISAPPOINTED in HTC and Windows Phone 7

1- Cannot install any program on my phone such as SSH client I use for work and nothing on the market place.
2- No GPS with direction software.
3- Cannot sync my device with outlook 2010 on my computer.
4- RTL or BIDI languages show character by character and I cannot read websites in those languages.
5- Opera mobile was my choice of surfing the web but now cannot be used.
6- Not much choice of ringtones or themes.
7- I do not want to use any pirated software but this is not what I expected. I feel trapped in Microsoft powered HTC jail and am very concerned about my privacy.
The device works fast, is responsive and neat but I consider not buying HTC mobile products anymore.

He's got a valid point but I wouldn't blame HTC. Those problems are on all Windows Phone 7 phones. HTC makes great phones. Buy an Android phone dude. I have the HD7 but I also kept all my Android phones I've bought over the years. My HD7 stays put away in my pocket unless the battery in my Android phone dies or I wanna watch something on Netflix and it will stay in my pocket or put away until HTC/Microsoft/T-Mobile release a MAJOR update to fix or add all the features I need in my phone. I have a feeling it will remain in my pocket for quite some time tho.

If this helps others or points htc/ms to do something, i would again register to post.
8- Battery life is real short. I read somewhere that changing the backgound to full black will improve the battery life and it does but wifi, 3g, screen light and light background are battery killers! I used to have much more battery life on my old diamond 2!

Droid phone as you mentiond do have many good points but a lot of my points also applies to phones like desire hd.
I guss it is about users againt big guys or better said being jailled by big guys. Take IPhone as an example. Microsoft mobile was the only one that was not a warden but looks like competition drives them that way. It is a shame. They just do not or do not like to think if they are good the customer will stay with them.

exactly.... nothing is perfect on birth...everything needs versions and versions...
be it software or hardware...everything will become perfect or nearly perfect in time. ( for example : windows xp was crap , then with sp2 ...BAM!!!)ok nothing else is coming to my head..but you got the idea , right ??
with updates and revised mobile bodies , any mobile can top.,..
just give HTC or MS ( or any other company ) some time for their updates, after they review all the positive negative feedback....
Although you'r a first time poster on XDA, i'm sure your familiar with Forum's in general and forum rules. The main one being READ THE STICKIES AND SEARCH BEFORE POSTING.
All of what you have said has been convered a dozen times and is also consolidated with the other "Features" which the OS is lacking in a Stickie at the top of this forum (here) AND in the WP7 Generic Forum (Here or Here).
As for some of your concerns, why are you concerned about your privacy? Please explain. The "changing the background colour to black" won't help you with an HD7, as it uses an SLCD screen, meaning no matter whether it's white or black, the backlight will still be on. This is only relevant for LED screens where a black screen means the pixels are not illuminate and therefore consuming no power (however when they're white, they consume up to 3x as much power as an LCD screen). My HD7 provides me with about 36 hours of charge, with screen brightness set to auto, and wifi/bluetooth/gsm all turned on. I could go a day and a half without a charge however i've always charged smartphones every night anyway as they all consume alot of power.
Other than that, welcome to the forum. As other's have said, the OS is only 4 months old. Give it time. The features you want will become available sooner or later.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I know that a lot of my points are posted and discussed in other post but I thought it might be good to put them together as a sort of complaint.
Apple's IPhone mobile OS was new and I can see 3 and 4 share a lot of features. With Google you know that you will have to do syncs online. I had an idea about what he wanted and WP7 was disappointing. However I have to wait and see what will happen after MS and/or HTC work on HD7.
I have to sync my calendar and contacts with my live account and this is a huge lake of privacy in WP7.
Given the fact that I have paid for a lot of apps on my diamond 2 such as SSH client, VoIP softphone, GPS, I thought just like software on my desktop I will be able to use most of them or there will be an upgrade for my HD7 WP7.
I sit crossing my fingers and hope big guys think about users.
Windows Phone 7 is clearly not for you. Return the phone and get something else.

Unfortunately, it seems you didn't do enough research before making the jump to Windows Phone 7.
Forget about the phone hardware itself, Windows Phone 7 is a totally different platform than Windows Mobile 6.5 and below. Two totally separate products. Your complaints are not complaints because they are all issues that Microsoft is well aware of and that everyone has discussed before. This is a brand new product, and of course things won't be perfect and won't have all the features you demand.
As for the software you previously purchased, that's not a fault of Microsoft as they did not develop such software. That falls on the developers of your software. They make the decision whether to develop software compatible with Windows Phone 7, and they make the decision to offer you free upgrades or not. That is not something Microsoft can control. So regardless of the platform, when you buy software, you are at the mercy of those developers.
And in regards to your privacy and information through Windows Live, you are not required to sign in with a Windows Live ID. You can skip that part of the setup process and use the basic features of your phone. But you miss out on many of the phone's features of course. So that is totally up to you.

Hellz no! And if there was this much crying nonbody could pull steve jobs' sack out of their face long enough to show you their tears.
I understand the OP's issues... as minor as they are, but sweet Jesus it has been beat to death. Nobody needs empty praise, but the unecessary crying over what amounts to nothing, or temporary shortcomings needs to stop.
Or better yet, it could be worse. Here we're wanting a FREE software update. With apple you'll be waiting till next year to buy a whole new phone so you can get something that another phone has had for the past 5 years.
And with Android (as cool as it is) you may or may not even get the latest/greatest updates.
So... uhh, yeah... g'head and dry those tears Homie.
1. MS not release socket support right now yet til Mango update,so no any ssh apps for sure.
2. I think that from above.
3. Maybe TouchXperience can help you.
youtube.com/watch?v=aAgd-iTBlGs
4...
5. Because of no socket support, any browser must be use an IE engine to communicate web browser, so no need to use an other browser.
6. I think I see this answer in "Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking section".
7. If MS not awaking right now, we have no choice, because we know WP7 is good but not perfect yet, so MS should be hurry up.
I have HD7 too but I'm no comment it's good or not to buy.
Because bought before.. played before.
Thank you all for you posts.
Have to admit that I did not do my homework before buying a HD7.
Having said this, it is not a real excuse just to say WP7 is different to 6.5 and below. It is like you like ice-cream and try to buy one but are presented with yoghurt in the shop and the shop owner says you needed to do a research before asking for ice-cream!
Having said all this, I got an e-mail from HTC that they have forwarded my mail about these point to Microsoft.
It is all up MS what they will decide to do.
Do you think Microsoft decides to take a user point of view into consideration or just like others thinks their new OP is good and will do anything. I guess some of these points will take huge changes to the OS and their marketing plans.
And I should not complain because I had to do more research in advance .

Again, you are comparing ice cream to yogurt. Two totally different things. It is a very valid excuse. If you like ice cream, then you probably shouldn't have bought yogurt, or at least, done some research on yogurt before you bought it so that you knew what you were getting. You can complain all you like, but yogurt isn't going to change into ice cream because you want it to. They may share similarities, but they are not and will never be the same.
Same goes for Windows Mobile/Windows Phone. Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Phone 7 are two different platforms going in the two different directions. Microsoft recognized that one path wasn't going anywhere, so it took a look around and went in a different direction. So Windows Phone 7 may share some similarities to Windows Mobile, but they aren't and probably will never be the same product ever.
Both platforms cater to two different audiences, and if you like Windows Mobile 6.5, that's fine. Stick with it. You just have to realize that it is unfortunately a dead platform and you won't see any further updates. Windows Phone 7 is different and takes new and unique steps to a more cohesive and connected platform, and if you don't like it, the simple solution would be to not buy it.
If you are hoping that Windows Phone will become like Windows Mobile, then you should probably give up hope, as Microsoft has made it clear that this platform is something totally different.
The ice cream owner who sold you yogurt didn't tell you he was giving you yogurt.
Microsoft however, made it clear they are now selling cakes instead of ice creams or yogurt.
If you're still looking for ice cream and yogurt, you went to the wrong shop

Well, I think it also was not clear when I bought my HD7 and MS did not make it clear that no other software but only new ones from market place will work on WP7.
Anyways I own a HD7 and am happy with lots of its features. In some features it rocks compare to Iphone or Android phones.
But are you telling me nothing I say makes sense?

This forum

I have been on xda since my hero days so its been a few years. Didn't join til too long ago. Made some good pals along the way and learned tons.
So far this forum for me is a breath of fresh air. The phone forums are so full of hate, trolls, attacks, name calling, disrespecting developer's work and the usual douche stuff.
Of course its here too, just no where near as bad yet. Yet. I hope it stays that way because its so much nicer to thank people than report them.
This may be a gay post but some mods fell the same way. Anyway, glad I got the n7 and glad I'm here.

Yeah this has been awesome, reminds me of the HD2 forums, at least back when nand android became available, the vivid forums are crazy, these ones are nice.
This forum and the AT&T One X forums have been the best. The OG EVO 4G forums were good in the beginning but it got worse and worse over time. Same thing goes for the Epic 4G Touch. I know I'm guilty of some warranted snarky responses from time to time (Search first!) but I never actually attack anybody on a personal level like I've seen in some other subforums. We are all here for the same purpose so why can't we all just get along?

Hey I remember you from the Evo 4G forums! =D
Just be glad this isn't like the prime forum was in its earlier days..lol. nexus 7 forum is cool. Since I'm unlocked and running custom kernel, I'm more into developement scene now. Never any issues in there. Only everyone working together to put out the best/most stable stuff. NEXUS 7 is an aAzimg little 7in. Tablet. I would've never thought the experience on it would be this good.
Give it time. This forum will degrade just like every single other forum on here.
Not trying to trash XDA, but it just isn't the same community it used to be.

Yep, the more popular a device gets, the more trolling and flaming becomes a problem. It's inevitable.
XDA is legit in general, probably one of the nicest put together forums on the web. The new layout really sets it off.

When your getting the latest updates and everything is flowing as promise there's nothing to ***** about ... besides to Google ...
Its when you go on the older threads where people are angry because they can't get a working ICS build or even a jelly bean .. or too many noobs bricking their devices
It will turn in to that ... after time
The Epic 4G touch forums got real nasty after ICS n the brick montage

Shoulda been here 6 years ago.
It was all fields and everyone used to be on first name terms with each other.
Then the devices came, then they got popular then the neighbourhood went to pot.
>Then the devices came, then they got popular then the neighbourhood went to pot.
Why, when I was your age...
Pining for the golden yesteryear is a popular pasttime, but it's usually distorted by people's selective memory. Reminescing is futile anyway. What matters is how XDA manages the additional influx while still retaining some semblance of its core identity, and not let itself lapsed into another generic techie hang-out.
The dev sub-forum restrictions have been the main instrument in that. But it would be nice to see more care in other areas. The site's UI and layout was never good--check out the classic vs 2010 vs 2013 beta layouts--and now has turned for the worse.
We're not just talking about personal preference for aesthetics, but dirt-basic design concepts like text reflows vs fixed-width. The basic web UI now has orange-on-white. Who thinks up this stuff?
It would also be nice to see more creative solutions to navigate the huge traffic volume and decreasing sig2noise ratio. The most-recent-on-top scheme and the encouragement of long threads effectively bury most valuable info, as informative threads tend to have few inputs, and are pushed off by argumentative or more inane material. I suppose XDA is shackled by its forum software here, but one can hope for better.
Then again, maybe not.
I was a regular over at the SGT7 forums for a few months, didn't see too much name calling and stuff like that.

Don't take this the wrong way but when the US market opened up the s/n ratio plummeted.
Kids will be kids, wherever, but the US teen speaks a dialect of English and this is a predominantly English forum.
There are many native French & German / Nordic fora although many non native English speakers from Europe speak and type better English than many English teenagers and have better manners.

>Don't take this the wrong way but when the US market opened up the s/n ratio plummeted.
I live in the US, although I'm not a native, so I empathize both sides of the coin.
That said, attributing the deterioration of online communication to any nationality or ethnic group isn't a grounded argument. English is still the lingua franca of the Internet at this point, and the US user population is still the largest group. Failings from them tend to be magnified by their numbers.
I agree that there is a marked decline in social/communicative exchanges online. It's a little sad to see people don't even bother to correct obvious spelling mistakes, let alone correct grammar. Any attempt to better such is derided as grammar nazis.
But it is what it is, and it reflects the population at large, who also exhibited a marked decline in analytic thinking and social discourse. No amount of handwringing or reminescing will change that. And it is an equal-opportunity malaise in that it affects every online population, not just the US population.
It's kind of sad...
It's a bit like saying the Nexus 7 forums only murders 10 innocent children a week so it's not as bad as other forums who murders at least 100 innocent children and their mothers on a weekly basis.
It's unfortunate but unless the moderators are extremely active (and well-staffed) chances are the trolls will ruin it for everyone sooner or later.
Especially now it's the summer and there is nothing pimply-faced 13-year-olds like to do more than to troll forums in between playing the latest shooter on their MicroSony PlayBox, stuffing themselves with greasy pizza and masturbate.

I'm 40 year's old and was incarcerated throughout my 20s and 30s I came home to a different world one that I enjoy most at home on my laptop learning. I enjoy learning commands and exploits for any and all systems especially the ones pertaining to my devices. I currently am working on rooting a wingtech revvl+ and a few other devices. Any one who has successfully installed a custom recovery on the tmrvl4g_0.05.27 or any variant of tmrvl4g 5g let me know. Thanks

Welcome, good sir, and glad to have you back in the world... <smile>
I got tired of Boost's nonsense (being forced to upgrade to a 5g phone, allegedly free, but actually about 250 bucks in all), and went to T-Mobile. Since they were cheap and I needed 3 of them, and, with all the upgrades to 5g, likely needed to offload a few traincars of them, we got 3 TMRVL4G devices...
Since it's Wingtech, which really isn't one of the biggies, but, as I've been on this venue all these years, through many devices, I'm always willing to be a guinea pig... My coding chops are decades old, and really revolve around Delphi, CodeTyphon, and old XBase stuff... Never learned C++ nor really much .java, so coding for Android is, while interesting to me, and I can generally read and follow others' work, just the syntax and symbology are difficult for me. (What can I say? Turned 65 this past Valentine's Day, and it shows at the damnedest times... <grin>)
But, should you happen across any recent information regarding any work on rooting this device, or, at the least, enabling the app-to-SD functionality which is available for every other device I've ever owned, I'd be most grateful. Add to that, I've got plenty of legit Play Store-approved apps for which I've paid real money, but can't use as they each require root access... It's not that I disapprove the companies' making admin access difficult (hey, I've boneheaded enough over the years, but give me a way to get back to default and I'm good... I also have a modest collection of paperweights where, "Sorry, dude... you're hosed..." LOL)...
It's that they each try to out-do each other in how impossible they can make it for even experienced users, but without access to their tech-support frame, to actually use these things as they're capable... I mean, ****... a quad-core device, fast as hell, and storage out the wazoo for most users. Not me, mind you, as, were some functionality enabled, this beastie would be a quick laptop replacement, with the Bluetooth keyboard which also seems to not talk to it.
Again, good sir, welcome, and welcome back!
