Hey there
so i saw this app called T Link the other day being used by someone that claimed to bring wireless carplay to every Android Head Unit.
Does this app work? I tried it out myself and i keep gettings errors but no connection.
Does the app need Root Acces maybe?
Link to the app. The only thing I find is a screen mirroring app with bad reviews, specific to JVC headunits, which uses a USB connection, and has nothing to do with either Carplay or Android Auto.
First, if it provides Carplay capability to an AA headunit, it would run on an iPhone (IOS), not Android. Second, if a headunit doesn't support wireless AA, no app is going to allow a Carplay device to connect to it wirelessly, so "every Android Head Unit" - nope.
Seems you're missing something here.

Hi. I dont know about apple product but as far as an android user the T-link app provides for me wireless AA without fail.
Have not once experienced a dropout of connection loss or anything.
Only issue is what is an AA issue, and thats maps not being able to switch day/night mode by itself
Best regards
Using Tlink 1.7.7

The Tlink app is installed on ur android headunit. It connects your phone, either android or Ios to AA.
So he is actually spot on in his discovery

Hey guys thanks for the help but I think the problem that I am having is a different one now.
So my headhunt does not support Apple CarPlay from the start.
I bought a adapter and tried to install the app that It comes with but nothing… no signal.
So the issue seams so be that there is not enough power coming out of the USB port.
When I use a splitter and plug the end for power into the lighter usb charger and the data one into the usb dongle it works no problem but it looks ****ty …
Any way or any adapter that I can get this fixed with?
Btw the head unit charges my phone without the adapter for about 3 seconds and then it Just shuts off

So, has nothing to do with Android Auto, where apps are not installed on the head unit. So, he's actually completely missed the mark for posting in the wrong forum.

Yes and no. Since you use the Tlink app to connect to AA. And that is installed on Head unit. Its not really a AA question, but related to that.
Since some need either Tlink or Zlink to connect to AA it might be more correct to move to a different thread than one thats about AA, but then again.
Im not a mod so not sure =)
But this is a different matter and not what was supposed to be the topic
Some with a bigger brain will surely help us out

I have seen someone talking about an adapter for this specific reason, but tbh you might wanna look in the headunit threads.
Tho if you google adapter for carplay there is quite a few hits, tho seems expensive.
Try and look in TS10 / Px6 head unit threads, there are some clever ppl there who is really helpfull

hello! im new to this forum, and this is my first thread so sorry if i happen to be posting this in the wrong place, but ive been looking all over trying to find a remedy to my problem so now im turning to the forums for help.
i have a newly acquired 2010 chevy malibu LTZ, with a freshly installed pioneer SPH-DA120 APPRADIO 4 double din headunit. it loooks amazing, and it works great with an exception of a HUGE headache. i have a google nexus 6, and ive been told multiple times this phone is compatible with android auto, and i have even seen videos of it working, but i cant get i to work at all on my head unit. now mind you my headunit is compatible with car play, mirrorlink, and appradio and theres videos of it running android auto. my problem lies when i plug the phone into the unit, the only message i get is an error on the unit reading "incompatible usb". the device ans the headunit are at the latest firmware, and as added measure, i reset the device, and tried applying the parking brake, and enabling USB debuggind, all with the same end result. im at my wits end trying to figure this out, someone help please!

The head unit isn't compatible with Android Auto. The Pioneer Avh-4100NEX runs Android Auto out of the box.
Sorry to bear bad news, but that model does not support "Android Auto": http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio/AppRadio+4+(SPH-DA120)
It supports CP, "AppRadio" mode and Mirrorlink.
I think it's unlikely to be upgraded.
Well in that case does anybody know where I can get a cheap HDMI to micro USB splitter for app radio mode then..

I can't answer that.
But if you are going with AppRadio, you may want to look into AppRadio Unchained or Reloaded; it seems a lot of people prefer it to AppRadio.
I have a new Pixel2XL and am frustrated trying to make Android Auto work. All was fine with Apple Carplay and my iPhone 6s (this is actually my 2nd Pixel2XL as I went back for the 128GB model when the $300 sale came along after I'd purchased the 64GB).
Anyway, bluetooth isn't working well. And I'm being told this is a long-known issue with Android that Google is still "working on". Since it's happened with both phones, it's either Android 8.x or a long-running, unresolved issue.
I'd like to disable bluetooth, but I'm being told that's how the Phone works in the car. Can the phone be moved to the USB cable?
One other question, when connected by USB cable, are non-AA compatible audio apps using bluetooth or the cable?
Thanks.

No, as far as I know you have to have Bluetooth & USB cable connected for AA to work properly. Ref
https://support.google.com/androidauto/forum/AAAA6SY52nIs5RIQpqOqKI/?hl=en
Don't know about your second question, but on my car non AA apps don't work when AA is active.
That's been my experience, yes. I'm having bluetooth issues regardless. So depending on it in the car is frustrating and even dangerous if I try to disconnect/restart/etc. while driving.
But I did just receive the 8.1.0 update and I'll be in and out of the car today. So, crossing my fingers that something will work better!
Thanks for the reply!
I have old OBD2 v1.5 adapter. Chinese, big one. Which pairs with HU and works well.
I wish to buy new one, that call 'mini'. I know I have to look for v1.5 (as 2.1 is a crap) and with PIC18F25K80 chip.
But I read that even much of these new mini are PIC based, that have some strange Mac address like AA:BB:CC:11:22:33.
Anyone has experience with such adapters? Do they pair and work with Torque on our HUs?
If anyone is using such an 'mini' adapter, please post link to eBay/AliExpress where you purchased it. Will be very grateful (and it may help other people here, too, as many have issues pairing/using crap adapters).
I personally bought https://www.ebay.com/itm/Auto-16-Pi...le-Diagnostic-Adapter-For-elm327/152700822059 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-ELM32...uto-Car-Scanner-Scan-Tool-Cable-/112070132071 so I connected it over USB and only thing I've made is HW MOD to get ACC+ instead BAT+ from OBD2 so that it is powered only when Key is turned on.
Resolved pairing issue with no pairing and all works along with BT and WiFi free for other devices.

Thank you for sharing. I was not considering USB option, but it sounds interesting.
I see you both the 'big' one (same as my old one). And they really work very good.
But I would like to buy some of 'mini' models as my OBD2 port is in such place (under steering wheel and just above brake pedal) that big one is too big and my feet is hitting it while driving. Here is obe model I consider

There are 2 models of these (not colours): old design with 2 PCB boards, and new one with just 1 board. I wonder if anyone has any of these?

:silly: I do not see the problem there as if you checked both links from my post you would see that I use extension cable that do not have issue with connector position. Mine is located right above gas pedal so I could not drive car normally with any OBD Adapter unless I used extension cable.

PIC is programmed micro controller and not actual ELM327 see https://www.elmelectronics.com/products/ics/obd/ and v1.5 nor v2.1 exist officially as they are clones and you should use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applagapp.elm327identifier to test actual model and support.
Re which one: I ordered 6 different models and kept two that worked flawlessly with my car 1 was broken (got refund) and resold other 3 to get my money back.

It is fairly simple MOD:
1. Soldered positive wire of lighter connector that have power only when Ignition is turned on.
2. Bought FLAT cable that I can easily cut the wires like in picture s-l1600.jpg
3. Cut Wire on pin 16 BAT power see ODBII%20Master%20Pinout.jpg
4. Connected wire that goes to OBDII to Positive wire I prepared in step 1
5. Connected OBDII to connector from FLAT CABLE
6. Connected USB to HU SINGLE USB CABLE
7. Tested if all works with Toque
8. Used cable ties to secure all cabling behind dashboard
and now I enjoy the all the diags on HU

Thanks for this info, very helpful, just got Android 8 Eonon 2170, and I've been struggling to pair OBD, Kiwi 3 doesn't show (BLE not supported? Don't know), Tomtom unit won't pair, no name unit seems to work, but, I've thought, why not USB, started searching for USB Android supported, luckily came across your post.
To change BATT to ACC, is that just so it's ' done properly'?
Surely battery drain would be miniscule, or not? I guess makes sense to have it not powered all the time.
Going by your posts, so, some of these units didn't work properly,ECU side or Android side? Thanks again, A
I just looked into factory settings, there is a CANBUS section, currently set to NONE, should that that altered to car maker's CANBUS ?

It is not the problem that it drains a ot but all small drains can pile up so eventually you have a problem. I have park mode security enabled on my dashcam system so it drains some, OBDII can drain a littl, but it is known that in some cases keeps ECU awake that can drain a lot due teh number of sensors it keeps awake also

All was ECU side due the different pinouts see my pics, I have seen in the past several USB -> COM chips that are not supported on Android due the OEM build and specific drivers like some factory that are not recognized on laptop till you install their licensed software (Usually JUNGO Based Drivers).

Only if you got specific cables with canbus decoder (black little box). even then USB OBDII is used to diagnostic and clear codes. I use Toque 1.83 and it works on one unit that v1.52 didn't worked with. Usually ELM v1.5 works better than v2.1
thanks! I have now got USB OBD unit 1.5 (still need splitter/extender), tried yesterday with Torque as well as with Palmer's DashCommand:
it kinda worked - during first trip, 45min, Torque app crashed twice or more, worked after restart, on return trip, DashCommand also choked once or twice, thenm I relaized, as fuel tank level is not reported, unless I run app 100% of the time, fuel consumption won't be correct - and, realsiticall, I need TomTom on the screen more than gauges....
I see there are OBD spliters that 'allow' two or three OBD devices plugged in, wouldn't you know, is it OK to split/use multiple OBDs ?
like, I have TomTom 'Curfer' OBD data logger - just logs 'quality of driving", thoiught to get splitter to log data, AND, if so desire, call gauges on screen ?
thanks for explaing CANBUS!
do you use TPMS tyre pressure units, if so, which ones ? my radio has an app to read such, wonder if it's worth it ?
I have connected my USB OBD. Torque not recognised device. How to check that Scanner is properly installed on android system?
OBD scanner is generic just like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ELM327-USB-Interface-Diagnostic-Scanner/dp/B00IWLLX1Y
BTW I have MTCE with android 8.0 with KLD MCU.
Torque lite ain't work with android/usb, only in bluetooth mode.
I have torque pro so there is no problem there.
Any way problem solved. Bought Bluetooth version.
I mean, this can't be that hard right? We know USB data can be transferred over WIFI. Thats probably what is behind the tech of the new wireless feature in the head units. The car has wifi, the head unit knows it and uses it with your phones WIFI and blue tooth in tandem.
I can't really rely on GM to update their Android Auto head unit even though my car has WIFI and it would be easy. They just wont do it. So, I was laying in bed brainstorming. There has to be some small dongle out there that plugs into the cars USB port and uses your phones wifi to connect to it and create a USB connection as if it was plugged in directly. Then the head unit wouldn't need the wireless feature.
Or, you plug the dongle in, and the the Android Auto head unit knows what it is, (just like if you plug an android phone in with Android Auto) and the dongle creates a wifi connection with your phone. Then the head unit wouldn't need the wireless feature baked in. This can't be that hard to come up with can it?
I think it may be possible using a few items
1.)Modified OpenAuto (already supports wifi) that redirects or clones AA data to usb
2.) Raspberry pi zero w
3.) this Zero usb adapter
I'd be willing to work on it, but seems like a big task to undertake to modify OpenAuto.

Also would want to donate. There is a market for this if stable and effective. Let us know.
This seems like it is possible if we get a device that works somewhat similar to how Nintendo used to allow wireless connections for their older consoles. They would connect a USB to a PC and bridge the wireless connection to the USB and LAN on the machine. We would need a USB dongle that can take the wireless commands and send them as if the phone was a native host connected via USB.
It'd be interesting to see if it could be done with a Pi Zero W, as the two technologies are *technically* compatible, indeed, when you connect to the Desktop Head Unit, it transmits TCP data over USB.
Unfortunately I don't have a Pi0W to give this a shot with
I'd be all about this.

Hi Guys,
what about this? Nothing? I've already checked the other solution, but I would like it much better if could be done it with RPi, "natively" redirect the data between wifi and usb. So the phone can connect normally directly by Android Auto app using wifi without any other 3rd app.
Could be possible? Of course I also would donate this project!!!
Best regards,
Géza
Yeah, apparently a Chinese company made this kind of usb dongle but only for carplay. They converted the factory head unit with carplay from wired to wireless.

www.indiegogo.com
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cardroid-car-pc-android-auto-usb-computer-dongle#/
Is this just a basic Android device using some mirroring software? Would it be possible to do this with a phone?
CarDroid is not a mirror dongle. The link shared has a comparison chart. Mirroring dongles don't have their own operating system and you are pretty much stuck with Android Auto.
The CarDroid is an alternative to Android Auto as it has its own operating system and memory. Also, it doesn't require you to pair with your phone to "mirror" content on your screen. Apart from connecting to BT/Wifi, your phone is basically "set free" and not required to operate CarDroid.

Here as well.
Let's see what happens with this thing.
take a video about using
at least on my car, I can not be connected to the car with Bluetooth and android auto at the same time. This could be an issue for me.
Witam i jak urządzenie dotarło? Jak działa jakieś filmiki?
There is this Italian video but it is not too much...
Hi guys,
I received this thing and I must say I am disappointed.
Concept is great and to be honest this is clone of Korean Fine Drive AI 2.
But as RayBomb says device hijack your Bluetooth connection with headunit and you cant use phone just for calling over headunit.
The other big issue is non functional GPS (or missing one I'm not sure).
The project owner is trying to override this with some workaround with GPS tether from your phone but in that case you don't need this device at all.
And cherry on the top.
While flashing it with new firmware it just stopped and now I have something nice looking usb stick.
Device is probably in boot loop and nothing cant see it on usb port. I would feel better if this was my first flashing. When I think a little it is my first time to flash something regular. Since today I was only flashing custom roms and rooted devices and something like this never happened.
My advice is to stay away from this.
Better investment is to make your dedicated AA phone or just to buy phone and root it and install screen2auto what actually I did and it is working like a charm. Bugger is that you need to connect your phone every time with cable but even that is better than non functional device like this.
Only my 2 cents.
Interesting, I'm going to keep my eye on this. It seems like it has potential if they can get the bugs worked out.
I'm using Screen2Auto on a 2 phone setup because I don't want to root my main phone, but it has some problems. Hopefully, they'll get this working.
If they can get it working as intended would you be able to do a Google Assistant search for a phone number and have it make a phone call through your phone?

Exactly like you said.
I was the one refunded and removed after few comments they didnt like.
On their forum also lot of my comments are removed and as I sad I was the one who bricked device. My first brick after so many years without any chance to revive it.
Only thing I regret is that I didnt backed all apps from device with app monster because I like the feature you can use your own launcher like you are on your phone. No annoying AA with his launcher and restrictions what app you can use even when you patch it.
If your device is still alive can you investigate how did they do it yo use AA on headunit as a screen.
Sorry for my bad Enlish but I hope you understood what I meant to say.
