flashing twrp - Command not allowed - please help - thank you!!! - P8 Lite (2017) Discussion

Hello, I am stuck on flashing twrp and really appreciate any help.
That’s the procedure I followed so far:
have P8 lite 2017 PRA-LX1 EMUI 8.0.0
downgraded to EMUI 5.0.2
got OEM code thru DC-unlocker
unlocked bootloader thru ADB (file "platform-tools_r31.0.3-windows" from SDK Platform Tools release notes | Android Developers)
Fastboot&Rescue mode screen shows: Phone unlocked , FRP locked
downloaded twrp-3.5.2_9-0-prague and renamed in twrp (file "twrp-3.5.2_9-0-prague" from https://twrp.me/huawei/huaweip8lite2017.html)
C:\adb>adb devices
List of devices attached
57U7N1########## device
C:\adb>adb reboot bootloader
C:\adb>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Sending 'recovery' (14894 KB) OKAY [ 0.640s]
Writing 'recovery' FAILED (remote: 'Command not allowed')
fastboot: error: Command failed
What I am doing wrong? Does FRP needs to be unlocked as well?

FRP needs to be unlocked.
TWRP is for EMUI 8.
As far as I understand, you haven't updated Mobile to Android 8( EMUI 8),I want to Ask why didn't you?
If you android 11,then you need TWRP A11 unofficial. Search in threads of p8 2017.

Hi Momin, thanks for the answer.
My mobile was on EMUI 8, but I downgraded to EMUI 5 following advice from DC-unlocker tech support team: it is easier to read OEM code on EMUI 5 than on EMUI 8.
Is there a TWRP for EMUI 5?
And how to unlock FRP? Since I unlocked the bootloader, the option “Enable OEM unlock” in developer menu cannot be enabled…

I had this issue so I'll try to give some info and I hope it will help you or anyone else
my P8 Lite 2017 always goes to erecovery rather than twrp recovery
first you need to :
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img
then you need to boot the phone in android and with adb mode you need to :
adb.exe reboot recovery
for some reason, that's the only way for me to get to the TWRP Recovery
it's, weird, I don't get it either, I don't care, it works for me xD

Request OEM unlock Huawei P10

Hi all,
I have an incorrect firmware installed for my P10 and lots of things are not working (oreo 8.0). I want to re-flash or rollback to other firmwares but problem is I can't get into TWRP anymore. flashing it doesn't work and although I see in fastboot Phone Unlocked and FRP unlock i have the idea it has to do with the OEM unlock not working properly. It's also not available in the developer options. What;s exactly the link to huawei's page where you can request your phone unlock ID ?
Thanks

First of all, I've tried to update from Nougat to Orea via Blackballs method in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-plus/development/oreo-update-thread-l29c432-t3729907 with the firmware mentioned there
What is not working:
I've managed to do the first part (oreo install), but:
- SImcard has 'No service
- Can't flash TWRP
- Bootloader / phone locked in Fastboot
- I can't remember how I unlocked the P10 last year (I have a P10 L09-VTR, rebranded to L29-VTR and now 'working' on a VKY P10 plus rom)

Help!!, frp locked bootloader locked

So what happend is i wanted to get oreo on my pra la1 so i re branded it to al00c chinese version (after unlocking my bootloader)
using the al00c oem file , i flash d it in twrp and then i wanted google play services which is not there in chinese version so i unlocked bootloader again and flashed oreo twrp and then flashed pra lx1 oem info and i did not dload the lx1 software:crying: so stupid of me now i m running chinese software on lx1 and without google play now my frp and bootloader is locked. now when i try dload it goes to 5% and says system update failed . WHAT DO I DO NOW TO GET PRA LX1C432 OREO??
THANX IN ADVANCE
Try Firmware finder for huawei + erecovery method , which is :
- download firmware finder on *another android phone* and search for exact phone model (ex : PRA-LA1C185)
- choose the very first firmware down the list
- Get an update thorugh dns >> Manually >> Register update
- After that , reboot your bricked phone into erecovery by ( power + volume*+*)
- press download recovery and last firmware
- wait till getting package
- by now should firmware start downloading
- let phone complete it's work and reboot
Hope that's work for you ?
I have the bootloader unlocked via DC Unlocker. Must pay 3,99€ because it's okay.
NOW: I want flash twrp via adb-fastboot and it comes

Try this:
fastboot flash recovery xxx(name of recovery).IMG.
It's the old nougat command. Might work. Depends on what partition scheme your device has. Give it a shot. Likely won't but you can try.
Got same issue yesterday. After some i got a length partition issue.
I did the full OTA from eRecovery. Now i'm on PRA-LX1 8.0.0.368 C02 (NOT C432).
I should try again (i believe my device is now totally stable - i think i flashed bad rom with HuRUpdater...) and see if i can flash a TWRP (certainly 3.2.1 Oreo) with fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrpfile.img
Will let you know.

How can be helped if not provided which ROM you had (full build model, cust nunber), what you did (wrong), and such details - bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed, etc?
What is 'rescue' mode - you mean Recovery (or eRecovery)?

MM, N and O (corresponding EMUI version) each has different organization of partitions (O even differently named two partitions) and different encryption of Data and Internal mem
Flashing wrong TWRP causes brick (even worse if you then proceeded by DLOAD or something with that inappropriate TWRP
Few users already reported similar bricks here but nobody reads on time ;(
TWRP for Huawei directly from their site is (maybe) good for Huawei MM but not for N or O
Use only 3.1.1-1 'endorsed' for Huawei Nougat !!! from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/twrp-t3565703
or even better, little newer/extended version from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rom-huawei-p9-magicrainbow-v4-t3759292
Try if you can unbrick by flashing proper TWRP fron Fastboot and by DLOAD afterwards.
If you need, download corresponding (must be FullOTA) update.zip from Firmware Finder (it's possible from PC since your P9 does not boot or use any other Android phone), unzip, use Huawei Update Extractor (PC app, search on XDA for) to extract Recovery.img
If still not working, use HWOTA method from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787156&postcount=3
or HWOTA7 from (find and download appropriate ZIPs from Huawei Finder, do not use ones and don't proceed by rebranding to AL10 until you fix as L19 !!! and/or if you don't want to use Chinese Oreo)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-eva-t3820849
or eventually you can try by HuRUpdater

That is the problem - to flash you need both Bootloader and FRP unlocked but with wrong TWRP or so, you locked FRP
To unlock FRP you would need to boot to System and check OEM Unlock under Developer Options - but if you ccannot boot to System, it is bricked
IMO, no other way now but to buy 15 EUR credit for DC Phoenix, they can unlock (TG, I didn't need to use DC Phoenix , hence cannot help about, you can ask them over their page)
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/DC-Phoenix-flash-repair-tutorial
You can also search here on XDA, there were other users who un-bricked by their tool, if I recall there was also somebody with a similar brick: FRP locked but cannot boot to System

Custom ROM / TWRP for Honor 10 Lite?

Hey guys,
I just bought the Honor 10 lite and I am not really a big fan of Huawei's EMUI. That's why I wondered if there is already any custom ROM somewhere out there for this phone? I know it's pretty new and I couldn't find anything so far..
Would still appreciate any information, if somebody knows more about it.
Thanks guys :highfive:
You need to unlock bootloader 1st and that's currently impossible for honor 10 lite with Android 9
Even paid service isn't an option.

I just noticed that with the latest fw update as of today (9.0.1.142), the OEM unlock option can be now changed from the developer options menu, I guess it is still impossible to unlock it but well, now at least it lets you to change the option (before the update it wasn't even possible to do so). I'm not now able to but someone should give it a try to see if by any chance they messed up with OEM...
I think we'll have to wait many months before someone finds an hack to unlock bootloader. This is a very recent smartphone and also Huawei and Honor are not for modding, since it's everything locked and they're not providing unlock codes anymore. Too bad I discovered it after I bought it !

How did you unlock the bootloader?
To install magisk you need to install twrp first, then flash magisk zip from there. But there's no twrp for our device so far, maybe you can try running a twrp of a device with our same socket without installing it, from fastboot, and see if it works. For example
Code:
fastboot boot twrpfilename.img
If it works, then you can try flashing magisk from there.

Bootloader is locked and you can't flash anything till it's locked. There are paid services to unlock it but so far our device is not supported. Though there's no sense to pay a lot of money to unlock it, also if it was supported, just to have root (if you're lucky) , since there are no custom ROMs for Honor 10 lite. Our device is not made for modding. The only solution on my opinion is to wait patiently till someone finds an hack to unlock it for free, or sell your phone and buy a Xiaomi. You can unlock bootloader very easily and there are plenty of custom ROMs for it.

Hello. What the twrp_bkl_0.7.img? Where did you get it?) Is it workable?
You can always install a different launcher like Nova Launcher
this link claims you can use TWRP from Huawei P9 lite

You can try it, I don't know this source, thanks for the tip .
Just make sure it's really a complete service ROM.

Don't have a google search?
- Unpack archive
- Copy dload folder (without unpacking it !) to the root of your SD Card
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power and both Volume buttons ("three button combo" method).

Choose one and follow the instructions .
P.S .: you can install any GSI Custom from the section Huawei P20 lite, Honor 9 lite and P20 lite are basically the same phones.
(EMUI 9.1 is required).

@mbook12 Any roms I try to download there I only get an ad for an iphone... Any idea where I can get a lld-l21 EMUI 9.1 firmware? Any attempts to update mine (with EMUI 8.0) it always claims to be at the latest version.

I think it's 432 - but now I've realized I have more issues, as I can't find it in the "About phone" and the model shows "unknown" instead of lld-l21.

L21 C432 doesn't exist.
In fastboot mode run commands (use "Minimal ADB and fastboot" tool on PC) :
fastboot oem get-build-number
fastboot oem get-product-model
fastboot getvar vendorcountry
fastboot oem oeminforead-CUSTOM_VERSION
fastboot oem oeminforead-SYSTEM_VERSION
and post the results.
Some might fail, so don't worry about it.

Thanks, I'm on linux so it is a different package to install fastboot and adb. Anyway, the results are more worrying:
Code:
$ fastboot oem get-build-number
(bootloader) :System 8.0.0.046(06HJ)
OKAY [ 0.005s]
Finished. Total time: 0.005s
$ fastboot oem get-product-model
(bootloader)
OKAY [ 0.005s]
Finished. Total time: 0.005s
$ fastboot getvar vendorcountry
getvar:vendorcountry FAILED (remote: 'cannot get vendorcountry in oeminfo')
Finished. Total time: 0.009s
$ fastboot oem oeminforead-CUSTOM_VERSION
FAILED (remote: 'The reason of failed input oem_nv_item error!')
fastboot: error: Command failed
$ fastboot oem oeminforead-SYSTEM_VERSION
FAILED (remote: 'Read oeminfo failed!')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Seems I have lost all oeminfo.
Seems like it is time for the full background story - I had managed to unlock the bootloader using the PotatoNV/testpoint method. Unfortunately, flashing the official AOSP I was dumb enough to forget I had emui 8 and flashed also the Phenix kernel. That broke all - no more TWRP, fastboot reflashing the stock erecovery, recovery_ramdisk, etc. didn't work, flashing stock kernel got it back to booting into erecovery or TWRP. Attempts to flash system ended always with error after it sent the first segment of the sparse file, so on recommendation of a fellow xda'er I used the Huawei Flash Tools IDT 2.0 and the only xml firmware file I could find for the lld-l21 - Huawei_Honor_9_Lite_LLD-L21_1.0.0.42_Board_Software_General_8.0.0_R1_EMUI_8.0_05022GGQ_HMT.zip
After that booted into (I think) factory mode, I did the update with the sdcard dload mode, using LLD-L21A 8.0.0.122(C636) Honor 9 Lite_Firmware_Android8.0.0_EMUI8.0.0_05014XCA_DA_romadd.com.zip
So, my lld-l21 should be now on region 636, but apparently is on none.
