Hi all. Old phone to ask for help, I know.
I don't know if it would be possible to get the nfc working on the japan (SO-02K) version, in Canada?
From what I've read, flashing any rom doesn't seem to be the answer. Maybe I've missed that, though.
I got the idea of purchasing a nfc replacement part designed to work in our part of the world, then replacing the japan part? Since it NTT in the phone is obviously different. I assume that would probably require a combination of flashing a rom.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Man I hope someone out there has an opinion on this...NFC isn't important but god I miss it so much
Sorry, but I do not make you to much hope. NFC in japanese phone has always been a different chip/driver. It is a old story but all this NFC existed in Japan as Felica (by Sony) many many years before Google was thinking about to integrate NFC into their phone. NFC was used in Japan even on the old feature-phone and was used to pay for train tickets etc. So Google could have choose to adapt to the Japanese Standard, but as you now found out, they have different.
I would recommend you to leave your phone as it is and live without NFC. If you really want to have NFC, flash the original Japanese Rom.

Hello everybody,
I'm looking into buying a Kaiser and I came across this offer. The owner explained this:
the phone is still in working order but just lacks some of the better components that are not installed like the tytn 2 as your propably aware supports video calling and hsdpa access my phone does'nt. Also the bluetooth function does'nt work as it should (i can access other phones but when you come to pair the device with another, that does'nt work) You see i originally bought this phone before they were generally available in the shops,on ebay, which i believe came from a seller who worked in a T-mobile store who had access to this particular phone who then promptly sold to me,and that this phone was a " pre production model " hence it not working as you might expect. about the disc that you asked about i never recieved one with this phone. I hope this answers your questions, but as i say the phone is in working order for all other aspects.I believe a re install of windows mobile 6 should resolve these issues. Thanks for your question hope all this helps please do not hesitate to ask anymore subzero1972

He doesn't have any additional info like ROM/Bootloader/SPL. What do you think guys? Can the issues be repaired with just a rom flash? Or should I look for another Kaiser?
hello,
I am looking to buy an Xperia Z1 from a guy and I want to know what are the differences between the fake and the original Z1.
How to know if it is not a fake ?
it is the 1st time I am going to get a sony Xperia Smartphone, is there any other thing that I should know ? concerning bootloader, etc ... (for example how to know if it is sim and bootloader unlocked or not) ? knowing that am gonna root and flash custom recovery.
thks
in my opinion you can tell by just touching it. I have never ever seen a fake z1, that aluminum is something that fakers don't want to spend on probably. Also, try dialing *#*#7378423#*#* it should bring up the service menu where you can see all the firmware and phone details as well as the option to test the sensors of the device. Also, IF YOU ARE BRAVE ENOUGH, bring a cup of water. Close all ports and SINK IT. should still work 100% after.
Never saw a Fake one and never heard about someone buy one as this kind of tech it cost to much to the fakers probably. So don't worry, the probability of buy fake Z1 are close to 0% but still the probability to buy a defective one. It will be good to test it in your hands first or if you buy on internet use Paypal and an Platform which work with them (eBay).
Hi Xperia SP users
I have done some disassembly and find out that my LCD screen is indeed broken. Since I am not a rich guy, I decided to replace the screen rather than buying a new device. Touch is fine, it is just the display module that fcked.
However I come up into another problem; all replacement parts are not genuine. Heck of course, I know this. But to actually "buy" one is not easy. The mere 15$ might be cheap for some of you. But for a school student like me, it can actually can impact my $$ life Especially currency conversion.
So what's the problem? Why do I need to ask?
I am searching for someone that has replaced his / her phone screen and that he / she is satisfied with the new screen. I would like to know where he / she bought that replacement part. in this online world.
It is just I am quite worried that I bought a faulty product. Ahem chinese products ahem. But I know some chinese product can indeed perform well, and thus, this thread.
So, do you have anything to recommend me? Whether it is a chinese product or branded, how do feel about your new screen? Would you drop me a link to buy it?
I bought mine on Amazon from Sony. As expected it worked fine.

Just got the device. I had planned on flashing a combination of firmware to enable the fingerprint sensor AND keep T-mobile wifi calling/vo-lte functional before later rooting it. At this point however I have just turned it on to make sure it works and verify wifi calling works.
To my surprise the fingerprint sensor is working out of the box. Can you think of any reason why this would occur?
Obviously I was not surprised at all that i can't seem to enable wifi calling or vo-lte. Does this mean I have an international firmware flashed right out of the box?

Maybe you didn't receive a US device or were sold a used device. Was the box sealed? Was is purchased directly from Amazon and not supplied by a third-party seller? From what I can tell Amazon itself does not seem to be selling those, only selling copies supplied by third-parties.
If box was not sealed, I'd say chances of it being a new phone are unlikely. Maybe like-new refurbished/used. That's very common.
I thought that was odd. The box wasn't sealed. Got it for 399 but it didn't say it was refurbished.
Does this mean battery life will be be garbage? That's my biggest fear with used. I baby my batteries.
I'm gonna reflash the firmware but if I can't get it to work I'm going to have them send me another.
New XZ1 Compact US Warranty/Latin American Firmware
So I checked the seller listing. Claims that it is "new" and "us warranty."
I've contacted Sony to see if they can give me any information on the device. I was hoping I could tell if it was refurbished based on the IMEI but doesn't look like that's possible.
I've reached out to the seller to see what they say and give them the opportunity to make it right.
However I did some digging with the secret phone codes... to find the firmware cda number. I cross referenced it with xperifirm. Turns out it's a generic latin american firmware. I'm trying to give the seller the benefit of the doubt, but I can't fathom any reason latin american firmware should be present on a new us warrantied device.
I'm going to wait to see what they say. It's killing me because I want to start customizing it.

I think I may have bought from the same seller you have. Did you return the phone or did you do something else? I called Sony too but from what they are telling me if i understood them right, If i change the latin american firmware to US firmware, I might lose my warranty.

Likely you won't have any warranty anyway as it isn't a US based device. Who knows?
I kept it anyway since I can't seem to find a new US device for a good price. I'm not pleased with that company though. I wanted them to send me a guaranteed new model since it came unsealed, with the warranty expiring before a year past my purchase date, and since I talked to sony and named they might have the IMEI logged. But they wanted me to first return the device and then they'd send out a new one. Had that happen too many times and then there is no replacement. What really upset me was that they fully acknowledged they are selling Non-US models but never changed the listing and would not give a discount for the less than authentic product.
I notified Amazon of the fraudulent ad. I doubt it will do anything. Perhaps you should do the same.
My thought about warranty is you could always play dumb with Sony and then the company you bought it from might actually be liable since they sold it as a US warrantied device. I wouldn't hold my breath though. In my case I'm going to unlock the bootloader, root it, etc so the chances of me sending it to Sony are very slim.
Do you ever notice how the manufacturer is always careful to say that you "Might lose your warranty"?
I always interpret that as it is probable that you will be denied a warranty claim until you get really angry with them and only then do you get what you deserve at the expense of your blood pressure rising excessively and causing the support rep to hate his/her job even more.
Eh, I got the same device from an Amazon reseller back in April. It was the Mexican firmware and all I had to do was change the language. FPS worked great out of the box so I didn't complain. The battery still works great to this day, and it was a flawlessly new device when it was delivered.
In late 2017 I flashed an X Compact to the UK firmware when I bought it used last year. Days later a portion of the screen died exactly one week before the warranty ended. I called up Sony to get an RMA # and after going through their diagnostics process all they asked was where I purchased the device from. I just said "Best Buy" and no other questions were asked, they gave me an RMA. I sent them the UK-flashed X Compact, they simply re-flashed it to the US firmware and fixed the screen so it worked like new.
I was pleased Sony didn't try to weasel out of fixing it, even though they could have argued their case. Definitely did NOT have that experience with LG when my US-bought Nexus 5 broke under warranty.

That's a bit annoying. Anyway, I'll report the seller too. I mean the phone looks like it's working great but because of the price, it's kinda annoying me a bit that I paid that price for a non brand new phone. I mean if they refund me a little bit, i think i'd be okay with it. They even emailed me back before I bought it saying that it does have US Warranty.
Also can anyone confirm if I change the firmware to the US firmware that doing that doesn't really remove the warranty? I mean i'm not rooting it or anything yet. Also, if I use like a UK firmware, would T-Mobile VoLTE and Wifi Calling work so that I can keep the fingerprint scanner?

No one here can confirm it, only provide anecdotal evidence. My post above says Sony will still honor the warranty
Hi everybody!
I have a problem on my Sony xz3 I bought one month ago and I just realized NFC was "not supported", as nfc check says.
In configuration, there is a nfc menu but nothing in it.
I didn't modify anything and I bought it re furnished.
Do you think there is something I could try before asking an exchange?
Hope to hear from you soon
Laurent
chances are that it is a Japanese vibrant of the phone and was flashed to a other region firmware. Previous user remove nfc system apk to prevent battery drain
You may need to reflash the original region firmware
First of all, thank you very much for your answer!!!
Would you accept to tell me how to proceed?
Best regards,
Laurent
I must add that I used sony pc companion to renew the "firmware" but it didnt change anything.... But, if I understand what you say, it might be a foreign phone not matching with the version?
And my XZ3 model is H8416 with android 10
Hope it helps...

I finally was refunded and bought a fully working nfc xz3 from a back market seller called
Concord Service Center
in Romania
Happy!
I just wanted to post that I got hit with one of these too.
A cheap XZ3... $245Aus on eBay... which I bought to tide me over until I could buy a more expensive phone.
On the back is says it's an SOV39. A Japanese phone locked to "au by KDDI". But it is refirmware'd to H8416. The version for USA and much of Europe.
And yeah, you use it for a day and it seems fine, until you find out the NFC doesn't work and the Bluetooth is really flaky.
(And it just sucks that they didn't implement proper Gestures in Sony's Android 10)
So, the obvious moral of the story is beware of super cheap XZ3 phones.
