I am kind of furious right now.
Did couple of trips with my Mi 11 Ultra using Android Auto wirelessly.
When I am not charging the phone it gets warm or really warm and works fine.
Only issue then is the battery drain which is more or less a 1% a minute.
While charging the phone on the 18W induction charger or using a QC charger with a cable the phone overheats.
It's hot to the touch. It displays multiple "overheating" popups. Screen is really dark too.
Normally I can't feel any heat from the phone under normal use. Using cameras makes it a bit warm as does gaming but AA just kills it.
Does anyone use Android Auto regularly with Mi 11 Ultra? Are you experiencing similar issues?
Try using an old-style 5V 2A charger, not QC.
Preferably don'use a wireless charger.
Anyway, using wireless Android Auto and a cable charger is a nonsense, then use Android Auto connected by cable to the car stereo.
Battery drain is just why wireless Android Auto till now has had only few implementations by car manufacturers...

Consider yourself lucky!
Most people here can't even get AA to work on this device
I use it in my pocket sometimes for Google maps navigation when riding a motorcycle and it gets hot
If you change the 5g to 4g it stays noticably cooler

I blocked 5g since I had the phone
Some sites tell that Mi 11 Ultra got an update to fix overheating issues at the end of July. But last EU Rom update was in June. FFS Xiaomi give us the updates!

Have a nexus 5 qi charger (googles own) and proclip setup in car. When using the nexus 6 with google maps for navigation, phone is losing charge even while on qi. This never happened on my previous nexus 5.
Is the power draw on the 6 with screen on much higher than what the charger puts out? If so, this would be extremely inconvenient since I use my phone for navigation every single day.

yup, the power output of the n6 could possibly be much more than whats going in, while using the wireless charging plugged in via a car.
I would say so, my nexus 5 would lose charge while navigating and charging in the car too
Can anyone point me to an app that would automatically dim the screen when phone is charging? I can save some juice that way in the car

you need a high power car charger to keep up with the charging. USB charging and wireless charging is not going to cut it.
there are turbo cigar port adapters that you can pick up. I have one.

Not plugging in a phone each time I get in the car. Defeats the entire point of qi charging for me. I'm going to automate screen dimming when charging and see if that gets me to stable power while navigating.
Anyone have a recommendation for an automatic app?

the stock nexus 6 wired wall charger can put in as much as 2500mV(what the n6 takes in). my nexus 5 takes in 1100mV max. where the heck are you going to find something thatll put in that sort of charge, from in a car? by default, you will get less power than my nexus 5 maximum intake. it may say AC while charging, but in reality you are just getting a fraction of a full charge. keep it plugged in, not wireless, and it might keep the charge, and not drop.

Most car chargers only output 1 Amp, car chargers are available that can output 2.4 Amp. Getting a more powerful charger could solve your problem. See Link http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-usb-car-charger/

Yes, I have a 2A cig lighter socket in the car already. I downloaded the "automateit" app and set a rule to dim screen to 50% when on charge. Otherwise, I like the screen at 100% all the time.
We'll see if that solves it.

I don't think you guys understand what I am saying.
Yes, I realize the N6 takes in a lot more mA's than previous phones.
Yes, I do know all about 2 amp cig lighter socket chargers.
Neither of those is relevant to my challenge. I use the phone for navigation extensively and I have a proclip dock + qi pad setup in both cars. I get in the car, and dock the phone. I am NOT going to get in the car and fiddle with plugging in wires. That's going backwards to 2005. That's going to a pre-Qi phone, which is a deal breaker for me. So, I either get the phone's power use while on Qi minimized to a point where its not draining while navigating, or I get another phone.
If I can't solve this, this is yet another major disappointment with the Nexus 6, for me. Frankly, I am regretting getting rid of my Nexus 5 so quick. The big screen on the Nexus 6 seemingly takes NUMEROUS sacrifices in usability with power draw being one of them.

Qi charging is SLOW! it you have gps running, which is a CONSTANT data connection, no trickle charge USB port power is going to keep up with that.
PERIOD.
keeping the screen off or muted/dimmed will not help if you have a CONSTANT data communication!
you need AC power to keep up with this type of battery discharge!!
same as if you are watching a video on your device. that is a lot of power being used (cpu, ram, screen, decode/encode file to watch, other things happening in the background) and no trickle USB port power can maintain a charge thats AHEAD of that.
qi charging is cool tech but its not yet ready to keep up with these types of demands.
you either use a turbo charger, high amp cigar port charger, in other words WIRES, to plug up the phone and keep it charged or stop using battery intensive applications.
Qi charging is not very efficient, there is no way you will maintain a positive charge while navigating, add to the heat issue, your phone could stop charging entirely. Qi is great for around the house or in the office but otherwise it can't really replace a physical connection.
I hear you guys. But I also know that my nexus 5 was used with a qi dock for navigation for well over a year. Thousands of miles. So I know its possible, maybe or maybe not with this phone. Well see.
I solved this. I am using the app called automateit and created two rules: when phone gets external power, I set the screen to 25% power and when external power is disconnected, I set it back to adaptive brightness. At 25% brightness, with navigation and use of an mp3 app and making calls, phone is stable on qi. In fact, it even charges at the rate of 1-2 additional percent each hour.

I noticed that my Huawei P9 does not charge or charge is low when i'm using it.
This is espacially disturbing when I drive and I use Waze and Spotify.
I checked my Chargers and they all deliver a 2.4 A.
I noticed this with the official usb câble and with anker câble.
Did you have the same issue ? Do you know how to fix this ? I haven't these problème with my Honor 7

i have the same issue when i use Maps. it's slow charging. other than this is fine.
The same for me, too. I used Waze on my holiday, and the charging speed was approximately 10 or maximum 15 percent per hour.
Have you tried the official charger?
I have experience with phones choosing to charge 1A or lower with chargers they don't like (eg. chargers not offcially supported)
I have a car charger, 2.1 A.
I tried with the official charger but the problem remains.
I also noticed that it occurs when I use an external battery which deliver 2,4A. I assumed that the phone managed the charge like this to avoid overheating but I would prefer that it charge a little bit faster when I use the GPS to no loss any percent of battery
Huawei Quick charge
I have the same issue, well i use too, i was using the original charger that came with the phone, i noticed when my battery was very low and playing Critical Ops (an FPS game on Google store) that my battery would just die out. Best solution to this is to buy the Huawei Quick charger which you can find on EBay, maybe Amazon, it's about $10-13 but it's worth it, charges the phone to 100% in an hour or less and you won't have the issue anymore.
I solved the issue cooling down the phone.
The phone has a silicon cover and was placed against the windscreen. During sunny days It was getting very hot until I received the message it was shutting down some features due to very high battery temperature. Then I placed the phone keeping the cover in front of an air vent with air conditioning on and the battery temperature went down below 30 Celsius degrees while charging.
Now with Waze running and Deezer broadcasting through Bluetooth, it's able to recharge from 50% to 90% in almost half an hour. Hope this helps.

Recently i got this head unit installed, and have found that when using android auto, i either gain no battery life, or it charges very slowly. i have the new samsung s9+. i was just wondering if this is to be expected, or if there is a way to increase the power output from the head unit. i tend to run waze for maps and spotify for music.

The XAV-AX100 has a max output of 1.5A. It can charge at 7.5 watts. This is less than the stock Samsung Quick-charge charger 15+watts and USB PD (also 15+watts) that you might be used to.
The Snapdragon 810 was so power hungry that my HTC 10 would occasionally discharge when using maps in the car, although I didn't have android auto at the time. Just a standard 1-1.5A cigarette charger. The 835 in the Pixel 2 is not nearly as power hungry and usually charges more than 20% in in 25 minute commute.
If your snapdragon 845 is actually discharging, and not just charging very slowly, perhaps try a 5v1.5A wall charger, and see if you can replicate the issues. It might be worth asking Samsung the minimum charging wattage, if the 845 is another power hungry chip.

You have to look, they existed for Micro USB C. this one says it doesnt support charging for USB C.
do rooted/custom roms enable this or is this a hardware limitation? I understand its a temperature related issue. I am not saying fast charge while using overlclocked cpu and playing games. It just seems a tad annyoing that i cant charge my phone while driving in my car and navigating at the same time. (it will charge but only so very slowly....)
i am talking about the "adaptive fast charge" which really only fats charges when the screen is off or in AOD (always on display)
When you, lets say, have google maps open while driving the "fast charging indication is actually lying to you. It will only draw about 5 Watts there.

I see someone wants to recreate a newer Note 7. I don't think is is a hardware limitation, of the physical phone or the stock charger, but the (stability of the) battery itself. Playing a game at full brightness would require adaptive fast charging to generate too much heat in the battery itself to compensate for the rapid battery drain, and maxing out the factory charging cable to replenish what was lost during current use and charge the phone in the same quick time you are accustomed to (with the screen off).
You are really asking another Note 7 disaster

haha not quite. i think you are confusing some concepts here. The net energy / charge arriving at the battery is actually less when the device would be under full load because the device itself uses a portion of the energy supplied by the charger... or am i missing something?
I think the gpu/cpu/screen heat in combination with charging is what the issue was on the Note 7. The battery itself can, as it might be obvious, easily be charged with ~15w. I believe the smart solution here would be to simply reduce/throttle charging with relation to CPU/battery temp.
I can tell you that when in a holder in an air conditioned car using google maps the battery will be fine with quick charge unless there is some weird coupling between two ICs.
Any decent quality USB cable will not be a limiting factor. 2 Amps @ 5V or 9V is really not a problem/
My measurements with the factory cable and charger at about 85% battery were around 1 Amp @ 5 Volt with screen ON and about 1.67 Amps @ 9Volts with screen Off or AOD on.
anyways. really only wondering if custom ROMS support this is or not. having my phone quick charge in my car while navigating is very important to me.
I think Samsung just played it very very very Safe after the Disaster. Limiting current and battery size that a guy who quick charges his phone in a Sauna can play candycrush on max brightness in performance mode....

Samsung smartly chose to avoid the issue altogether.
Heat dissipation will be that issue to contend with in my opinion. My phone's charger only does 18Watts on a good day (screen-off) in an airconditioned room (measured by a USB multimeter). There needs to be adequate overhead left in the thin stock cable that is shipped with these phones (which isn't even USB 3.0).
I believe that this maybe an safety feature built in by Samsung in the wake of the Note 7 battery issue. There may not be a work around for it.

You aren't helping the OP's case in trying to re-create another (explosive) Note7. Suggest something nerdy, like creating a custom kernel that tricks the charging circuit into thinking that the screen is off when the the charger is connected.
My OnePlus 7 pro would charge great in my cars USB using Android auto. My new OnePlus 10 pro doesn't charge at all using the same car USB port and original red cable. Ampre app shows at most about 260ma then immediately drops to about 50ma charging and an external USB monitor device shows .4 amp charging rate but driving with Android auto on a 1 hour commute, my phone charge % will drop by 1-2%. Anyone know what's going on?
I do not have an answer to this, but I have exactly the same problem. My last phone was a Oneplus 9 and the cable I used for that is doing exactly the same as you have described. I've only had my phone for a few days and just realised this yesterday.
State of Charge is largely voodoo.
0.4 Amperes is what your device is using including charging current.
50 mA is what is going into your battery.
1-2% is not statistically significant.
You need to take a 20 hour road trip to see if it maintains charge.
the same problem with the oneplus 10 pro, i come from the whole oneplus series being the last one the 9 pro and it was charging fine until now. I even changed the charger and it didn't work the same way, I took my car to check if the charge was working correctly and I deduced that it was the cell phone, but only with the car charger it doesn't work. I agree that it is a software issue not accepting the configured voltage.
