I've been running Liquidsmooth for the past 48 hours or so. Love the battery life, the overall functionality and stability. Great work! Much better on the whole than other ICS ROMS I've tried.
I've seen only three issues after doing my full wipe and flash of Liquid smooth.
1) Occasional system.UI stops. Oddly enough they seem related to the quick torch setting. Not a show stopper.
2) Liquid options, enabling JIT compiler for Dalvik does not actually set the check box. Again, not a Show stopper.
3) When on a call today, I received another incoming call. During this time, I was no longer able to hear the current call. Rejecting the inbound let me hear the current call again. That one is a bit odd as I've not encountered that behavior before with any other ICS ROM. I was using my bluetooth headset at the time, so not sure if there's a Bluetooth issue that shows up during a call waiting event.
If anyone else can confirm these issues that'd be good to know, as I didn't see mention of them in the dev thread.
Let's try this again.
I've got the N6 and so far it's great but one of the things that I absolutely hate about it is the Ascending Ringtone "feature" that either Google or Motorola has put on this phone. I'm one of those wacky people that likes to actually hear my phone ring, or alarm tone, or text notification at the volume that I set manually, rather than have the phone start the tone whisper quiet and then go up in volume.
I've heard of a custom ROM or two that have removed this feature (or at least made it OPTIONAL) but in my own personal experience, custom ROMs have always been too buggy for my taste. I wasn't exactly planning on rooting this phone, but I may just have to do that for a custom ROM that turns the ascending ring feature off or removes it all together. Sorry for the ramble, but I suppose my question is this: Is there a Custom ROM out there that is essentially a stock ROM - with absolutely nothing changed except for this? Is changing this feature something that someone like myself could accomplish by compiling a ROM on his own? I have no experience with this, only experience with flashing downloaded custom ROMs.
I don't mind stock 5.0.1, I just want to get rid of that ringtone issue. I've tried the "Disable Increasing Ring" app, but it has not helped.
To be clear: just flashing a custom ROM or editing an mp3 to a different volume is NOT what I'm looking to do, as this 'feature' is affecting all sorts of notifications, and not just the ringtone.
Thanks for any help, or helpful suggestions.
I agree, I can't stand the decreased to increased volume when I get a call or notification.
The funny thing is that it doesn't happen all the time for me. I wonder if it's a bug with the phone hardware or possibly software.
On my Nexus 6, it only affects the ring (call) signals. The notification sounds aren't affected at all.
Still very annoying, since we can't make this choice ourselves. I'd hate to need to flash another
ROM, due solely to this crap! Too bad the "Disable Increasing Ring" app doesn't work on N6.
It worked flawlessly on my old Note II. I wish the dev would extend the functionality for us.
bump.
I've been looking for a fix for this for a while as well. This is, quite possibly, the worst "feature" Google ever added to their ROMs. It makes it sound like the phone is broken and it's beyond annoying.
Yeah I agree, this ''feature'' should have been optional just like the encryption should have been optional too....
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Google adresses
this crap within reasonable time. It's a pain in the b...
I thought I was the only one who thought this was ridiculous. You've already missed like 2-3 rings and wasted time left to answer the call, sometimes. I can't wait for more "official" custom ROMs.
bump.
Yes. This "feature" sucks. Hope it goes away or becomes optional.
I have the same issue and can't find any option to disable this.
Hope google will make this optional the increasing ringtone.
EDIT: Btw this "issue" is present on custom ROM's aswell i think.
I really hate it also...can someone please kill it
Just tried cyanogenmod 12 (nightly 20150126) and it's there also. In this case it is even worse because CM's built in increasing ringtone feature does not work very well maybe because of the default N6 behavior.
bump.
Wondering about this also.
I was researching this issue for couple days and I found just few custom roms that fix this issue.
1) MeanPop rom. It's a bit outdated (based on 5.1.0), but works like a charm and very near to the original stock (personally tested and as I understood all sounds are just starting playing with a delay)
2) Benzo rom (based on Euphoria rom). Haven't tried it, but people say all sounds work perfectly (it looks like its highly customized rom)
3) Euphoria rom (Personally tested - fast, stable, customizable). For some people it didn't work and I found suggestion to flash first franco kernel and then the rom. That's what I did and everything works perfectly like it should be.
Couldn't find any other roms or mods. Programs like "Disable Increasing Ring" don't work, but maybe it will with custom kernel - haven't tried.
I'm running latest Euphoria ROM with the increasing ringtone already disabled but still it plays the ascending ringtone for some reason. Anyways my simple fix was I used Nero Soundtrax and added a 2 second delay to the beginning of the mp3 file I used as my ringtone and it sounds perfect no more ascending ringtone.
I didn't notice this on the chroma rom, but after flashing stock 6.0.1, this issue appeared.
I don't think it is a hardware bug. For me, other notifications are fine. Ring and alarm are the two that are problematic.
It's super ****ty that it affects alarms. It's at least 7 seconds after a timer reaches 0 until I start hearing it beep. Wtf... I mean 7 seconds isn't a huge deal in anything that I'm timing but WHY make it affect alarms?
Maybe I'm missing the point here, particularly with the last two posts. I have 6.0.1 MMB29S from January 4th 2016, and it has separate volume controls for Alarms & Timers in clock settings - "Gradually increase volume" - both allowing a certain number of seconds for the increase, including zero seconds, which I would take to be "off", right...?
I haven't tested this yet, since it's an option I didn't notice until I looked just now, but have the last two posters seen and tried it?
i hate this feature too.

Hey guys! So I'm always on here asking more technical questions, but I realized that I never asked about why the Nexus 6 for some reason doesn't like to play short sounds! For instance, the sounds when you like stuff and share stuff in the Facebook app, or the ding sound from Facebook Messenger. As well as other short sounds. Is this just mine? Or does this phone just do that? Thanks again guys!
I have the same thing happen on my phone. When it receives a notification, sometimes the first 1/4 second or so is very low in volume and then the sound picks up to a normal level. Weird for sure.
Then I'm not the only one, it's weird and I wonder if it's a software bug or even supposed to be a software feature! Lots of times, if it's a short sound, the phone just vibrates and skips the sound altogether!

Same here...
Yep me too, intermittently, on Cataclysm suspect it's an M issue.

Might not be the same issue but I found the same thing with ringtones - starts out very low initially and then returns to normal volume. Not sure it is an issue inherent with M since I haven't had it happen with most of the modified M roms but did have the issue with the M versions of Cataclysm I've flashed. Also had similar issue with some L roms also.
I hate this low volume bug and have started using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryosoftware.notificationsmanager... It works excellent.. Set up repeating notification for program ur having problems with, for me is FB messenger.. U get a simultaneous double notification sound first time and u can setup time interval for re-notification... Free version you can pick just one app, but paid version unlimited apps and I think was like $2 bucks or so... Well worth it... Hopefully helps someone... Flash safe lol

Some of these half sounds are freaky!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this has been an issue since this phone was released. It has been for me, at least. Every sound starts off very quiet and increases to normal after a second or two. I hated it at first but I've learned to live with it.

I've had it since I got the phone on 5.0.1 yea and still happens today.
Yea, this phone has always done this. Definitely not a Marshmallow issue.

So. Is there absolutely no solutions for this? I recently switched from SlimLP to stock Marshmallow and now I keep missing notifications since the sound is sometimes basically inaudible. I didn't have any problems with notification or any other volumes with SlimLP. Kinda sucks how switching back to stock broke such an essential feature especially since stock doesn't have notification LED either.
Nexus 6 have 3 main audio issues;
1- Volume normalization for certain frequencies. Some songs are really loud(funky, pop types), some are just fading suddenly(rock or metallic), just try to use a good equalizer program or viper.
2- Voltage dependent volume lowering. This is an issue with amplifier chipset, some kernels are disabling them(blu-spark, hellscore etc) but at very low voltages it is still effective.
3-Ascending sound. This is what causes notification sound problems. Actually this can be experienced all android system sounds and lots of apps that use them(whatsapp message send click, keyboard clicks, notificaitions etc.). Only way to solve it for now is to use another program for notifications. I'm using lightflow for led configuration and some notificaiton sounds like whatsapp, facebook messenger. You just need to switch volume control in notification settings to lightflow volume control, also you must disable original sounds to none. It is not a good solution, yes and I hate dropping google keyboard sounds but for now it is te only way .
Definitely this issue wasn't on L stock Rom, after upgrading to M stock Rom, my notification went to hell.

Can you tell how u set lightflow for Facebook messenger? I set it up and still issue persist with messages, did I just waste £2.00?
I want to go completely google free but I still want my stock rom as I've issues with the headphone sound in all custom roms I've used so far. So how do I remove google completely from my device? I really don't know all apps that need to be removed.

Removing Google will have no effect on your sound. Most people who want no Google are the tin foil hat brigade, concerned about privacy. If it's notifications from Google apps that are disturbing you, then they can be turned off individually on an app by app basis, so you can have no notifications without uninstalling everything.
The rom I know that will work completely without any Google is SlimLP - Aries, there may be others, I am happy to stand corrected on that.
Going down the Unlocked Bootloader road to install a CM rom is difficult and will result in a loss of quality of your camera and some of the phone functions. To install SlimLP because you don't like Google seems a bit excessive.
You say you've tried stock roms, have you tried SLIM 5, it has some sound enhancements that make it a joy to use.

My problem with the sound is that the max volume in all custom roms even SLIM5 is so loud that you will get deaf from it. I know every rom has the "high volume safety" function but still stock rom has the best max volume settings. I'm going to try SlimLP thanks.

There is a fix for the SLIM volume problems that corrects the loud sound, although most people complained about excessive speaker volume.

Oh my search skills seem to lack a lot then. Well I only searched for "too loud" "headphones" etc haha. I couldn't care less about the speakers actually. The sound isn't that great on stock either. Going to test this now thanks a bunch.
Edit: Didn't fix it for me. Guess I'm bound to the stock rom.
I am facing an issue with my video calls with all firmwares of global rom since first release untill 12.5.4. the issue is the other side can't hear me well as the volume is really low, and if a group of us are on the video, only the holder of the phone is heard, and the rest are heard like speaking under water.
Tried several apps, all types of available video calls and all same, DUO, messenger, imo, line, Skype, etc.
However, if speaker is on instead of video call, the sound is amazing. Tested mics of all 3 of them and working perfect.
Anyone facing same issue and was able to resolve it? Please let me know how to get it sorted as it is really annoying.
Nothing here I'm afraid, sounds like a mic issue

Tested mic and tried with speaker, video recording and voice calls are all perfect, except video calls using third party apps only
The First thing I can say is to force stop those apps and clear cache and data and see if the issue persists, try also a reboot after done it

Done, done ,done and a factory reset also done. I believe It is something related to software priorities or algorithm to reduce ambient noise but in a bad way instead of a good way.
As example, I make a phone call with my parents on video call using duo, if my daughter is far around 2-3 Meters from the phone then they would hear her like speaking under water, if further they would not hear her, if closer would be okay. Also, even if close to the phone the volume is lower than usual. However, if it is a voice call with speaker, everything is loud and clear.
This concludes to me as a software issue or apps compatibility with this device. I cannot find a solution, and I see it a very common issue with many devices as well, not only mi 11 ultra, but for this device I cannot find a solution.
Try to make a video call using Duo with people around you, the other side will hear you only and with a lower volume than usual. If you use WhatsApp it is slightly better but still poor.
What Cover do you have? Did you try the same with the phone without cover? Because I don't have this issue (using WhatsApp)

With cover or without cover, same issue
Would much appreciate if anyone got an idea of what is going on and can explain it
a new update
-----------------------------
I found what is the cause, it is called voice gain or volume gain. it is set as low by default and cannot be changed except by root. there are a few applications that can boost gain. as gain by default is set at 1 and can go as high as you could. an app called (Microphone Amplifier) is a simple app that really helped me with it for now but still needs more testing. the app got a very low rate because of no instructions how to use it and very poor UI, but the function is simply what am I looking for.
if anyone have an idea to fix the microphone gain without root please share it with me.
I've tried SetEdit but couldnt find the correct lines (tried volume_voice_xxx) but non of them worked.
