I would love to know everyone's opinion that is currently running Android 12 beta 5. I'm getting the best performance and battery life of just about any phone I've ever owned but this is also my first Pixel device. I also find the UI of Android 12 to be quite striking and a bold move in the right direction for Google. I will upload some screenshots of my benchmarks and device set up for those who are on Android 11 and curious about the beta's performance/aesthetic. Anyone else on this firmware please feel free to leave your thoughts/impressions/concerns in this thread.

agree, I like it as well. Although, I think the 5a could be just a little bit faster. Sometimes it's a little sluggish. But I am spoiled by S21Ultra and OnePlus8 Pro which I don't have anymore. The battery life is stellar. Sometimes I get through 2days before I have to start charging.
cheers

What happened to your OnePlus and S21 Ultra? Just curious.. I can relate though my previous phone was an LGV60 so I understand about the speed.. this is my first "Mid-range" device but I have to say aside from the speed/processing power of the V60, I think this Pixel 5a is superior in every other way. I'm definitely excited to see what kind of developmental support we'll be getting as more people get their hands on the device. If its already this good on stock android, I can't wait to see what this phone can do on a custom ROM.

I sold my OP 8Pro to buy the S21 Ultra. That was my downfall....
there is a long thread here that explains what happened to me with horrible Samsung Support story. Bottomline, screen had manufacturing problem and it took me 4 months to get my money back and it involved the consumer court.
I really like the 5a, don't get me wrong. It runs the latest Android, which I would not be able to do on the OP 8Pro or the S21 Ultra. The camera is wonderful. The sluggishness is mostly due to the fact that I got so used to >90Hz refresh rates.
cheers
What to expect and when ? And are we going to see 4.1 like we did with beta 2&3.

Isn't it awesome that custom roms can come with devices
Do you ever think a rom like Paranoid or Cyanogenmod could be cold with a pre-rooted phone?
also, for a custom rom phone to be targeted (and sold) at British/American/English speaking country?
The cool thing is, according to cnet's bench mark tests, this phone is more powerful then the S3 or One x!!
I don't like MIUI particuarlly but the idea is pretty awesome
Pics =D
Also
There is a problem with this phone being sold in America/Europe
Unless i'm missing something obvious, the Xiaomi Mi-One was the first MIUI Phone with the Mi-Two being the second? Anyway, wish these could be bought here, and in English, as i really like the MIUI style and the specs are pretty decent. I'm not sure that i'd be confident in build quality or after-sales care though.
The concept of having a custom ROM phone is a bit moot with Android though. How is a HTC phone with Sense Android, or a Samsung phone with Touchwiz Android, any different from a Xiaomi phone with MIUI Android?
lol
Well, makes sense. I never heard of the one though. I still find it interesting how it is supposedly better than the one x or s3
Why would anyone buy a one x or s3 when this is cheaper (in China where it is sold)

Probably because being cheap is usually the opposite of quality and last-ability. Also, when my phone breaks I return it to my provider or manufacturer by giving it to the driver that brings me a new one the next day. Good luck doing that with one of these.

I guess because sense/wiz only comes with phones (in theory) whilst MIUI was first a ROM and I'm pretty sure is open source.
Men, maybe I'm just overexcited by a cheap powerphone
But do you think they OEM lock the phone, or is it prerooted or nexus like (in rooting method)?
Just thought I would share the link on the review Toms Hardware does on the Nexus 5.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/google-nexus-5-smartphone,3720.html
It's a decent review until they get to the reviews.
Then they pretend like they know what they're talking about.
They know that the Note 3 'cheats'. But they fail to mention that other OEMs have closed source optimizations, other devices besides the Note 3 also 'cheat'.
Then they get too much into scores treating the phone like a new video card that's released. Good PC Reviewers (Which Tom's is also not but it's adorable that they try) don't always make for good phone reviewers.

Yea, they definitely focus mostly on benchmarks. Which is kinda lame. No one bases their decision to buy a phone on benchmarks.

People that read Tom's Hardware do. They know their audience well. That is why they focus on ridiculous benchmark numbers in all their reviews.

Well, I do take performance in general into consideration, but benchmarks are *so* unreliable that it's hard to base a decision off of them alone.
However, after reading the full review, I do think it was a good review. The Nexus 5 is a game changer and they realize that.

Project Butter was introduced in 4.1
They show very good battery results, as Anandtech did.

Went to Best Buy to check out the existing phone lineups. Anyone else find the current handset lineups to be lacking and uninteresting?
I'm sticking with my OP5 for the foreseeable future it looks like. I'd love to see a new handset that has the feel/quality of the Nexus 6 again.
I have a OP3T and a OP5 and wouldn't trade either of them for any new phone on the market. If it were up to me OP would just release a new 3T every year with updated internals until the end of time.

Thanks, but I was just looking to express that nothing since the OP5 has really been interesting as a device. I'm not looking for advice on what to buy.
agreed.
I really like the front fingerprint scanner for desk work. (6T got it in the front, but need to wake up the device first).
I really like offscreen nav button, imo its the ''android'' signature.
3.5 mm for my ath-m50 s.
I mean yeah, I wont change it until its too slow. and money its not a issue.
I'm trying to reduce my consumption, and the OP5 was the best back then. Pretty sure it will remain fast even if its 5-6 year old.
My best smart phone was the desire Z from HTC. 2010 to 2015. What a piece of tech. Change it since 364 mb ram wasn't enough to run google maps anymore.

Just saw the news, Samsung is planning to release an update which enables night mode and 25w charging. Is this really happening?

Man, I HOPE these are true. This phone would be damn near perfect with those two updates.
this is just bull**** !
s10 5G uses the same cpu as any other s10. so why is only 5G version able to charge at 25w and not other s10.

I have confirmation, that night mode will be separate mode(just like in Pixel 3's night sight) released in a future updates. The question and answer are in Polish.

PLEASE let this be true!!! Especially the 25W. I just went from Dash charge to this QC 2.0, which is like going from a new a McLaren to a Mustang from 2001. Lol!
The lack of charging and the slow finger print sensor are the only 2 real hardware crutches this phone has. If it gets those 2 things fixed, this will be the perfect phone hardware perspective in my opinion.
Night mode I won't miss much. From reviews I seen auto night shots on S10 already pretty good. It crushes the iPhone XS night shots from a compare video I saw. But I Haven't tested night shots yet myself.

Haha! I came from Dash charge also. On the 6T. This thing feels like it's from the stone age in terms of charging. Also, i had a very good working GCam. :crying:
I am also waiting for these 2 features and it will make it the most perfect phone.

I switched to 12.5 ROM like a year ago after Xiaomi didn't deliver it as an update from the stock 12.0 ROM as they promised. I first checked the Google Pixel OS and did not enjoy the extremely basic UI then decided to turn back to MIUI since I actually like how it looks. While I was at it I decided to load the latest version possible.
I rooted the thing to experiment but ended up not being able to find much to gain with it since it is a failed product that didn't sell well, there were not many software stuff for it. Anyway out of curiosity I recently installed 3DMark and it performed very bad compared to average score. It looked like it wasn't boosting to max clock speeds so I tried forcing it to max clock speeds for both GPU and CPU with root Android toolbox. This somehow made it worse and get 800 points which is only better than %1 Mi8 phones that finished this test. So I reverted the changes and got the same 1140 ish score I got before. Tried testing it again while it was plugged to the charger with no difference. Max temperature was 33C which makes me believe it is not boosting to right clock speeds.
To be honest phone still feels ok to use and battery life is enough for me since I recently replaced the battery. So I will not be installing another OS if it is the only reason for the low score since I don't really care benchmark scores as long as I have a smooth experience. But I would like to know why it is so bad and if there is a way to solve the issue without re-flashing the whole thing. I also don't want to re-flash it since last time I tried loading back the stock ROM from the whole backup I created and it somehow randomly failed in the middle of it and corrupted the partition that was responsible to making it connect to SIM and Wifi and it was a pain in the ass to figure out what happened and fix it from the old save file I had.
I am also very bored by using this thing but don't really want to buy a new phone while they stagnated this much over the past years in terms of technological advancement. I am planning to make a custom 3D printed back for it and install like a 10K mah battery to BMS board of my old battery and unlock all the clock limits on the software to fully unlock its potential. Does anyone know where can I get a CAD file for this phone so I can design the stuff I need for this.
