Hello !
Since 2-3 weeks, i have an issue !
at home when I have wifi activated, I always have the 4G logo displayed and sometimes 4G is used instead of wifi! I have however disabled the options in the wifi such as automatic switching when wifi is poor but my 4G logo is still there! so indeed if I deactivate 4G, the logo disappears but I would like to have both as before! someone have this issue? thank you !

I asked a similar question on Reddit. It seems to be a bug from July/August Update. I've done a network settings reset and it seemed to have helped

Used to happen to me too.
Network settings reset didn't help. Issue kept recurring randomly. Plus it was super irritating setting up all network credentials after every reset.
So I devised a workaround for this using Bixby Routines.
I set up a new routine whereby if my Home WiFi is connected, Mobile Data is turned off. Once i leave home and WiFi disconnects, Mobile Data automatically turns on. Solved my problem. You could try this out if you like.

It's a good idea
I will make this !
Apparently, it's a rogue app as per the Samsung centre. I showed them this issue and they said it's an app that could be causing this. They did this with another device at the centre that was on the same software that I was on and that device didn't have the 4G data symbol when on on wifi...So, they did a complete restore from their end, which I assume is the ODIN equivalent for us here and the issues seems to have gone while the total apps I have on have also reduced...

Thanks my friends ! I don't think it's an issue of rogue app , because all my app is from play store and is not unknown developers....
It's very easy for samsung to say that ! ^^
I think it's an issue of software after update

By rogue app, I didn't mean just apps that are sideloaded. Even playstore apps can be rogue! FYI, this issue has been present since the May/ June update. I wanted to get the sammy people to validate this with another device on-premise which they did in front of me.

Your phone needs to connect to 4G/3G to receive calls and texts so will be on when you are using Wifi. If you turn Wifi calling on then it will disappear as it can use the Wifi to receive calls and texts then. If they hid the signal strength how would you know if you could receive calls, this is not a bug. HTH
Edit: screenshot showing my phone with LTE and Wifi, then just Wifi when wifi calling is on.
Spoiler: Screen shots

Hi !
It's a bug because since i have an Android , i have not the 4G+ or LTE display when wifi is activated ! i checked and i don't have wifi calls enabled :/
I think it's an softwate issue , yes you have reason for receive text and call , but why the logo is displayed every time ? Is with the last update of september i think

If you do not have wifi calling then you should have a mobile connection when connected to wifi. The mobile signal is required to allow calls and texts. If you do not have one then but still have a mobile signal strength bar then either you have turned off data connection or no data connection on mobile. In my screenshot, you can see LTE1 next to the signal bar, which shows I have a 4G connection to the cell tower as well as WIFI connection. This is expected behaviour.
Do you get the as well as the WIFI icon?

He's not talking about the Volte icon being displayed along with WiFi. He means that in addition to all the icons you've showed in your screenshot, the 4g+ icon is also displayed concurrently, which should not be the case if you have wifi connected with an active internet connection. I had a similar issue. Only way to get rid of it is to turn off mobile data, either manually or through an automated trigger like Bixby routines, or Tasker.

There is an option to set apps to only use mobile data, that may be enabled. Settings -> Connections -> Data Usage Mobile data only apps. You can turn on and set an app to only use mobile data so even on WIFI you get the 4G connection.
Other issues may be that the WIFI is not reliable or considered good quality, Android will connect to 4G in readiness of a WIFI issue. So if the WIFI level drops a 4G connection is made ready in case of a switch is needed to maintain a data connection. You can turn it off in WIFI -> Advanced settings -> Switch to mobile data. Mine is turned on and locked so I cannot disable it, think that is due to other call/network settings I have enabled
Doesn't really happen to me, the 4G/4G+ icon disappears whenever I connect to WiFi, but I've noticed it always stays on whenever Google Duo is opened, and will stay there until Google Duo is removed from the foreground.
So a rogue app might be the probable culprit.

Yes, you're right. There is an option like that. It's turned off for me as well as OP if I remember his initial posts.
But even with that option disabled, mobile data turns on and the icon is visible alongside the wifi connected icon. Only way it goes away is if you turn off mobile data. It's not a biggie, but irritating to see 4g+ right next to the wifi icon, especially when you know wifi is working well and internet is connected.
I'll attach a screenshot.

Haven't looked at Google Duo being the culprit behind this. Thanks for the pointer, will check it out.
But ever since i set up a Bixby routine to disable mobile data when connected to WiFi, this is no longer an issue for me.

Sounds like you have a mobile only app then, some carriers add apps that will only use mobile data connection so they can keep the phone connected to their networks for "analytics, performance and service improvements" (tracking, tracking and tracking).

Dunno. It's an unlocked device not tied to any carrier.
But like I said, it's a non-issue for me now because of the bixby routine setup

And i made many others bixby routine
But i hope samsung will change the issue for the next version... !

Hi. I've bought my first Android device, a HTC G1 Dream. I've gained root access, installed the last Cyanogen release (with Android 1.6), RA-1.2.3.
What I've noticed is a strange behavior, quite different from the one I had with my BlackBerry Bold.
When I'm home I enable wifi, to save some datas from my (limited) contract. It works and I've set not to disable wifi when in standby. It works. But as soon as I go out (and the wifi coverage finishes), it doesn't re-enable UMTS data until I awake it from the standby manually.
It's quite annoying...is there a way to change this kind of behavior?
Thank you very much!
Is it still connected to EDGE or GPRS? If this is the case it is a PowerSaving feature, if it's totally lost connection with the net then you have a problem I guess...

When I connect via Wifi, it disconnects from edge, gprs or umts. And doesn't reconnect when the wifi coverage ends (unless I "re-awake" the phone, pushing the menu button)
from what i read your saying thats while its sleeping its not connecting to your data services when your leaving wifi coverage, so my question is: do you not see the data icon when you wake up the phone but after waking it it comes on or are u assuming that its not on?

Yes, I cannot see the icon as soon as I wake up it. Then, in some seconds, it reconnects. More, I can see it's not just a "icon" issue because my K9-mail stops collecting my mailboxes when that situation happen.
Constant notifications "Wi-Fi Calling preferences updated to optimize network exp."
So, aside from the common touchscreen and proximity sensor issues, I'm getting this notification constantly that is driving me crazy. If I swipe it away it comes back many times per day. It can't be disabled. I've seen reports of it, but it's not widespread. I've not had this issue on any of my other phones, Samsung or otherwise. The only way to get rid of it is to turn off Wi-Fi Calling. I suppose it could possibly be an issue with the wireless in my home. I use an eero router system. But like I said, it works with all my other devices no problem. Anyone else get this?
what carrier?
so notification pops up only when the wifi-calling is on?
try this:
download samsung members app from galaxy store, click get help (bottom), send report. once you submit a ticket, samsung will be able to tell you what is causing the issue.

I'm on T-Mobile. And almost every instance I could find of this issue on a Samsung device (via google search), the user was also using T-Mobile. And yes, it only happens when WIFI calling is enabled.

Are you also on T-Mobile?
T-Mobile here, and also having the same issue. I just muted/Silenced all the notifications, but they still pop up in the bar.
I have seen it a couple of times at home (also on T-Mobile), but this past weekend, when using a car hotspot (AT&T), it kept showing up over and over again.
S20 FE Unlocked purchased from Samsung directly. Just transferred from Verizon to T-Mobile. At my home, cellular signal is so weak that the phone is basically unusable for calls. Wi-Fi calling is a necessity so I set the Wi-Fi Calling network preference to "Wi-Fi preferred". It doesn't take long for these notifications to show up when the phone changes back to "Cellular preferred" mode on its own. My work around is to turn on Airplane Mode, wait for it to engage, then re-enable Wi-Fi. This works to keep Wi-Fi calling active and stops the constant notifications. I just have to remember to de-select Airplane Mode when I leave the house. A big PITA.
When I was on Verizon the phone would remain in whatever network preference I selected without issue.
i have a workaround for this using tasker, the catch being that you need to have the android 11 (one ui 3.0) update. if you're still on android 10, the custom setting this watches for doesn't exist yet...it was only introduced in the android 11 update.
Unlocked Galaxy S20 WiFi Calling Issues
Use tasker (or another automation app) to stop your phone from randomly changing the Unlocked Galaxy S20 WiFi Calling preferences!
www.grecobon.com
I have this strange issue that has been with me almost since the beginning. I haven't been able to trace when it happens, but it now seems almost 100% of the time.
I only have WiFi in the house (wifi6, if it matters). If I go out, I only have 4G (I left only 4G and disabled 5G). I have no data until I put the phone into airplane mode and back, or I disable and re-enable mobile data.
Same thing when I go back in the house: no data until I disable and re-enable WiFi.
I've disabled the option for 'always-on mobile data' or similar, it's quite a battery drain if there's no cell signal.
Seems like a very strange bug, I don't have this with any of my other phones.
So you have both WiFi and 4G enabled and they don't switch seamlessly?
Exactly. I always have to restart each one of them, usually by toggling airplane mode. Was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue.
Ok this really is strange. There are 2(!) different toggles to enable data switching between WiFi and 4G, but for me it works flawlessly without them! As soon as I get out of my home WiFi range, 4G kicks in, and when I get in range again, the phone connects to my WiFi...
Hi, i have this problem too but it's not always.
I have a wifi 6 router too.
I also have problems switching from wifi to 4g. Need to toggle airplane mode on/off. 5g deactivated. No wifi 6 here.
I always assumed my vpn is causing problems during the switch to 4g. But hearing others have the same problem i would assume its zenfone problem.
I never had any issues in this area with my ZF8. With the option to have cellular always on I could walk out of my WiFi zone during a video call and no drop or short pause would appear.
With this off the network need a few second to work, and some apps need to be refreshed/restarted to gain connection. Never needed to toggle connection for this to work.
Maybe a reset would be enough or check for updates.
Ah, exactly! It does not necesarily need a network restart, but some apps just lose connection for a while, which can be from a few seconds to >1h. Which is even more weird as the icons are showing full connectivity. I would go out of the house, do stuff, come back later and I would only get the notifications when I'm back inside the house.
Rarely I had the connection drop completely (no signal) when switching, but I haven't noticed this happening since the last update.
Hi all,
I'm noticing that the data connection seems to be active even when on WiFi. Is there any option that I need to disable so that the phone runs entirely on WiFi. I looked in the developer options and keep data alive option is unchecked. Am I missing something?

It will re-appear occasionally. Even if you turn off the "Switch to Mobile Data" setting, the mobile data icons and wifi icons will appear concurrently on the status bar. This happens even when the wifi connection is solid. Usually the mobile data icon disappears after a few seconds or minutes on its own. I'm not sure if its by design (for MMS or RCS or something else) or if it's a bug. But you're not the only one seeing this. My colleague has an S21U too and he shared a similar experience.

I'm suffering from the opposite problem!
I *WANT* to keep mobile data enabled while connected to Wi-Fi, but the setting on my phone has no effect! When I turn on the setting, my phone will still ignore mobile data.
I verify this by connecting to my dashcam via Wi-Fi. The dashcam does not provide any internet via Wi-Fi, but merely allows my phone to view the dashcam output and stored files. But once I connect my phone to the dashcam, then my phone has no connection to the internet. I can't force it to use the mobile data at that point. The phone is not behaving as it should. My older phone, LG G6, is able to successfully connect to the dashcam and still access the data through the cell signal.
The S21 Ultra simply cannot achieve this. I have the T-mobile variant, in the US.
I believe this is a bug. Can you get this setting to actually work? Like maybe test it by connecting your phone to your Wi-Fi router but disconnect the modem from the Wi-Fi router?
I'll post a separate thread for this, because I think it's a bug and maybe others are suffering from it without realizing.
Can anyone help me get this function working? Or is it a fake/useless/buggy function that serves no purpose but is included in the settings just for cosmetic reasons?
Under settings, connections, Wi-Fi, ..., Advanced, "Switch to mobile data" turned ON
But whenever I try to use my Wi-Fi to connect to my Wi-Fi dashcam, my phone reports there is no network and I'm unable to use the dashcam's options that require internet. I'm connected to a mobile network with full signal.
Is there something about my phone being confused on the Dashcam wifi?
My older LG G6 phone has no problem connecting to the Wi-Fi dashcam while using mobile network, but Sprint is about to shut off that phone's mobile network so I'll be out of luck when I need to rely exclusively on my retarded Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra that is not able to get this Intelligent Wi-Fi to actually work.
is it bugged or am I doing it wrong on the Samsung?
To clarify, our phones have a setting that I believe has no effect. I cannot tell if my phone is broken or if the setting has no effect for *all* S21 Ultras.
The setting is called Intelligent Wi-Fi "switch to mobile data," when WiFi connection is slow or unstable.
You can find it under settings, connections, Wi-Fi, ..., Advanced, "Switch to mobile data" turned ON
When I turn on my setting for this feature, the feature has no effect because anytime I connect to a dead Wi-Fi signal, my phone reports there is no internet, despite having full bars 4G/5G cellular signal. The only way to access the internet is to turn off Wi-Fi in this situation. The setting should make it so you can still use the mobile/cellular network regardless of your Wi-Fi status.
Hey there, I think I have an idea what you mean. I'm sure you can setup a bixby routine to turn off wifi. Probably need another trigger to turn the wifi on such as a location based trigger

No, you misunderstood the problem.
Here is the problem: how can you maintain a network connection to the cellular network, while still connected to a Wi-Fi signal that is poor/spotty or otherwise has no internet?
The problem is I *NEED* to remain connected to a Wi-Fi signal that has no internet. The phone is too stupid to automatically use the cellular network, even though there is a setting that literally says the phone can do this.
When I turn on the setting the phone doesn't behave as though the setting is turned on.
You can simulate this connection arrangement, and I can explain how, if you are willing to try it?

I will try this today after work.
The Developer Options includes this setting: Mobile data always active
The developer option is not ideal because I don't want to leave mobile data active all the time, but hopefully it will work! The setting in normal options, for intelligent wi-fi, seems like it would intelligently conserve battery by not leaving mobile data active all the time, but only when your Wi-Fi is spotty/poor. Unlike that, the developer option seems to ignore the Wi-Fi quality and just keep mobile active always.

No setting or developer option works to allow the phone to have a network connection via cellular once you connect to Wi-Fi where the Wi-Fi is bad.
Can you elaborate on tasker? My understanding is there is no routine that could make the phone maintain network connectivity to cellular network once you connect to Wi-Fi, because the phone is incapable of performing this functionality that it's plainly supposed to be capable of.
There are two settings that are supposed to do this "dual" network connection: intelligent wi-fi or developer option keep mobile active always.
For my phone, *BOTH* settings are fake or not implemented. I wish someone else could confirm?
Just went out to the dashcam, connected my phone to the dashcam via Wi-Fi, and once connected to the dashcam, my phone was unable to reach the internet.
I verified all the following combinations fail:
* Intelligent Wi-Fi on, developer mobile data active off
* Intelligent Wi-Fi on, developer mobile data active on
* Intelligent Wi-Fi off, developer mobile data active off
* Intelligent Wi-Fi off, developer mobile data active on
My point is no combination of any setting can do what the phone is supposed to do. Therefore no tasker routine could somehow enable the phone to accomplish this.
Could anyone please try to verify this? I'm trying to figure out if it's just me, or if all phones suffer this bug failure to implement a feature mentioned at two different places in the phone (settings for advanced wi-fi intelligent Wi-Fi, or developer option for keep mobile data active all the time).
To verify, just unplug from the router the cable that goes from the modem to the router, so your router will still accept Wi-Fi connections from your phone, but your router will no longer have internet. At that point, see if there is any possible way for you to browse the internet via the cellular network.
My point is your phone will stupidly refuse to use the cellular network because it's connected to Wi-Fi, regardless of you telling the phone to use the cellular network via either of these settings (intelligent wi-fi or developer keep mobile data active).
Yeah I got your point. Maybe a bug in the firmware or with your phone, because I have experience with the S21 Ultra of bad wifi network connected and 4g coming up (then I don't see the wifi network icon in the bar up). And then the wifi settings was saying something like "will reconnect when connection is good". I don't know why it doesn't work for you.
Do you have the Wifi energy saving mode option on ? Mine is off. Auto switch to mobile data is on in wifi setting. Developer option for always on is off.

I can see your point when it comes to the setting "Intelligent Wi-Fi - Switch to mobile data": It sounds like your phone is "disconnecting" itself from the bad Wi-Fi signal, so your phone is *NOT* connected to any wi-fi when it works via a cellular network connection (4g coming up). Is that correct?
But I don't think the developer option for "mobile data always active" works that way. Instead, I think it should do what it says, and keep the mobile data available regardless of whether you connect to Wi-Fi, and regardless of Wi-Fi quality.
I'm trying to *maintain* the connection to the Wi-Fi network that has no internet, so that I can use the internet via the cell phone network without disconnecting from the Wi-Fi signal. Currently, my bad Wi-Fi network is listed as one of the "Network exceptions" under the "Switch to mobile data" so my phone knows not to disconnect from that Wi-Fi network when it sees the absence of internet via that Wi-Fi signal.
But I don't think the setting for keep mobile data active will cause the phone to disconnect from a bad Wi-Fi signal.
Are you able to try turning off the intelligent Wi-Fi, and turning on the keep mobile data active, to see if your phone still behaves that way (disconnecting from the Wi-Fi)?
Have you managed to solve this? I have the same problem..
settings - connections - data usage - mobile data only apps
this should resolve what you need to do may need to use 2 different browsers if youre trying to log in to your dashcam

Thought of that, however then I should enable it for all apps I am using during driving such as Spotify, Google Map, Waze, etc. and each time I have to reverse it. That is just too complicated and tedious and not a solution, neither a not viable workaround.
Hmm, looks like the settings, connections, Wi-Fi, ..., Advanced, "Switch to mobile data" no longer exists after the somewhat recent Android 13/One UI 5.1 OS update?
I'll have to try the new approach above for my dashcam, but the problem is my dashcam provider updated their dashcam app and it instantly crashes on my phone now running Android 13. So I will get around to this eventually, once my dashcam provider updates their dashcam app again so I can run it and test.
It remains to be seen, after eventually assigning the dashcam app to mobile data only, if that assignment will interfere with the dashcam app's ability to connect to the dashcam via Wi-Fi. The issue is that the dashcam app needs to connect to the physical dashcam via Wi-Fi which lacks internet, while also using the mobile data connection to get internet from the cell phone tower. So it's the same app that needs both forms of connection. The new settings seem to be either/or, but NOT both. I'll just have to test it eventually.
