Hi, I wonder how using mobile hotspot affect battery whole life (not daylife). Is better to use usb betheting ?
USB Tethering is always better and it saves more battery than hotspot. Your phone will also run cooler in tethering than in hotspot.

I usually turn of my mobile data, and connect to just wifi when there a network available.
What consumes more battery? If speed is not an issue.
Thanks

I had a Samsung Epic 4G (the first line of Galaxy S) and on that, wifi consumed less battery than data, but on the Note, I am experience the opposite.
I find that wifi drains my battery faster.
If I disable wifi and am connected to 3G, the battery lasts longer.
If you use wifi to surf net, battery time will last longer. If you use data mobile like Hspa, you can see the battery drain very fast. (6 months of monitor with this)

WIFI always use less battery the radio doesnt have to do much work since the router is within a close range.... mobile radio does much more work and consume mote battery than wifi...
Wifi power usage depending of type of wifi (2.4G or 5G), router settings and signal.
2.4G is less then 5G type. This is because more power will need for higher freq.
Router setting will give impact on your connected device to your router. Go to the wifi advance router setting and set optimal for speed and less power usage wifi setting such as Beacon Interval, RTS/CTS Threshold,Fragmentation Threshold, DTIM. And last great signal great battery life.
When internet access (either idle or during active use) is necessary, what is the better option for battery life?
Does Wi-Fi drain more battery, is it the other way around or is it the same?
Best option for bettery life is to leave wifi on when your in wifi area

Wifi saves more battery than 3g.

yes I agree Wifi drains less battery than 3G if you have a good wifi connection, but not if your phone is scanning for new wifi connection when you travels.
To be clearer, wifi is the best option at home or hotel room compare to DATA transfer (3G).
Thanks, I always thought that 3G needs more battery juice. Every day you learn something new.
Damn me to i always taught 3g would use less. Thr note battery still needs to be inproved.

But if you are at home , WIFI is on and the screen off - actually this happens the most time.
I marked the option in the advanced WIFI-settings that turns the WIFI off when the screen is off.
What happens then? Does it do all network stuff with the 3G connection or is there a WIFI-wakelock for apps like Whatsapp?
If it uses the 3G network would't it be better to change to 2G?
Iam not sure this helps something but iam acutally doing it like this. Always on 2G (because at home and at work i have WIFI) and only when i need 3G when iam not in a WIFI-Network range i switch to 3G.
Does someone know how Android works?
Wifi is always better than 3g
Saves battery
saves money
And in many cases faster speed than 3g
So I will go with wifi

I have had my Verizon Moto X DE for a few days now and have been loving it. At my work, my old gnex would be without signal for 80% of the day. With the Moto X, it dropped all the way to 10% or less (could be a coincidence that Verizon made the network better the day I received my new phone...data speeds are about 5 times faster than they were as well).
Battery life is also much improved with the Moto X with only 100mAh more battery capacity compared to my gnex + extended battery. I am wondering about the battery usage reported on the Moto X. I do not turn Wi-Fi on (milking that unlimited data), but the battery usage is showing Wi-Fi using around 8% of my battery. Does Wi-Fi enable itself on the Moto X when location is set to 'High accuracy'? Battery has been fine for my usage, but I rarely connect to Wi-Fi and only use it at home if at all (especially now that LTE is faster than my home internet lol). Is there a disadvantage to using 'Device only' location mode if you do not connect to Wi-Fi networks?
That's a loaded question.?
If you go to WiFi settings and click advance there's a setting for WiFi scanning while WiFi is off. That's why WiFi usage shows higher than average. You can just turn that off.
High accuracy will use your cell signal, WiFi signal and GPS to get a faster lock. However, if you only leave GPS on depending where you are it will take much longer for the GPS alone to lock on your location. I personally just leave it on battery saver which is cell/ WiFi if available. If you're using navigation than you have to make it high accuracy so that it can get a good lock and not send you on a bad route.

Hi folks,
I'm running cyanogenmod 11 with an app called "Smart Wifi Toggler" which works like the "Location based wifi" on stock rom. It's great, and it's not causing a noticeable battery drain. I was wondering if...
1. keeping the wifi always on instead of using this app would cause a faster battery drain, and
2. My phone would automatically connect to a wifi network is wifi is on.
thanks!
Hello everyone,
A very good 4G coverage recently popped in my house for no apparent reason. I won't say I'm unhappy, because the debit is 23 times better than my poor ADSL2+ (140+Mo/s instead of ~6Mo/s). My subscription allows for 50Go of data per month, which is more than enough for my needs.
I currently use my Nexus 5X and USB tethering to share this connection to my computer (which doesn't have a WiFi card). I'm afraid that having the phone connected (and thus charging) constantly will ruin its battery.
I have the possibility to buy a WiFi PCIe card for my computer. Using it, I'll be able to use the WiFi hotspot and therefore not kill my battery. Moreover, Android Nougat has a quick toggle for WiFi Hotspot and not USB Tethering, making it more easy to enable and disable (would it be possible to make an app to add such an icon for USB Tethering ?).
My question is : which solution is better ? Should I keep using USB Tethering, or will it kill my battery and I should use the WiFi Hotspot instead ? If I should, what kind of PCIE card should I buy, will a 811n be enough or should I buy an 811ac one (considering that the hotspot emits 811ac) ?
Thanks for helping me (and no, the fiber is not coming anytime soon unfortunately)
