Intro - Introductions

I am new to all this and not a geek. My goal is to leave 'big tech' so I am embarking on a journey to load Ubuntu Touch on my just purchased 1+6 and stay de-googled. I have had an iPhone for years and am wanting to leave that platform. I have already successfully converted my Mac to Ubuntu so now a phone change is next. I never did this before and I never had an android phone before. WIsh me luck!

I have five Macs currently, am typing this on a Mac, my first PDA was an Apple Newton. I have been an Apple fanboy for 30yrs. And am on my second iPhone.
I also love my Kaiser. Now when I got my new 3Gs last month, my first thought wasn't to rush right over to XDA to start a new thread to announce that I had gotten a new iPhone, why is that everyone elses first thought ?
Can we just add all the " I just got a new iPhone " threads to the AS team's list of duties ?"

It pretty much comes down to this: If you want a phone that's super pretty, super usable, super fast and that JUST WORKS, you get an iPhone. In doing so, you have to play by Apple's rules, which is a consequence of having a phone that works so incredibly well.
However, if you want a device that puts YOU in control, from choice of device to choice of UI and application development, then you go Android or Windows Mobile. Additionally, if you need a "true" business device (sorry, folks; a virtual keyboard doesn't cut it at the moment) that works well with Exchange and helps you get things done, then you stick to Windows Mobile or Blackberry (which is just as closed in as the iPhone is).
I loved the iPhone, but the virtual keyboard and "closed-ness" of the platform turned me off to it. Further, I realized that after jailbreaking and customizing it, it becomse just as slow and unreliable as any other smartphone. I also really, really, really wanted additional storage space. (8GB is NOT enough.) Windows Mobile is definitely old hat in this game, but the fact that it still works incredibly well and still offers a very useful tool set (for me) makes it the right choice.
oh dude, u might be typing iphone-developers.com

The 5 Reasons Windows Phone is in it for the Long Haul

Hey guys
Hope all is well
I am an avid Windows Phone user. Love the OS, and the devices. I have written an article that was featured on Yahoo. I just wanted to share it with you guys. Please tell me what you think. Tell me if you agree or disagree with my points. Here is the link
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/8210443/5_reasons_why_windows_phone_7_is_in.html?cat=15
regards,
Brett Day
Good post, despite the fact I hate out going hyperlink.I especially like the first reason, cuz my past experience with c# is acceptable,I was messing up with wm6.1 and sql back then.
Still,I am not going to buy a wp7 for now.Cuz I need mass storage, portable hot spot, and real multitask. One more thing I fear is our smartphone is going to end up like our diy pc,if every manufacture is making phones with the same os and same spec, than why manufacture A,not manufacture B?That could bring my editor career to hell

Thanks man, I really appreciate that.
And in Mango SDK it is shipped with my favourite languages, verbal and computer: Visual Basic in Chinese. YAY
Unlike Android and iOS, I can use all my 12 years of learning in VB for my cell.

Hi, I'm a hobbyist living in PA and am an end user. Been using PCs since 1987. Wait...34 years??? Unbelievable. I've been primarily using Macs for the past eight years.

Very welcome to XDA. I hope you're going to have a good time here and that you'll find everything you desire. Maybe one of our newest fora is of interest to you?
macOS
macOS is the operating system found on all Apple computers. Discuss anything related to this operating system, whether it's the newest update, iCloud, iMessage, iPhotos, or general troubleshooting.

Introduction from an oldee newbee

I'm an old guy who has worked on small computers during the early 80s. I had to learn Unix to be able to run my first desktop which had 2 7.5 in floppies. You have eclipsed me with innovations and technical expertise, yet I'm still here persevering. I'm only entering into the world of Android, specifically to deGooglize to stop piracy of my data.

You came to the right place, welcome aboard!

Learning Kali and development at the same time, as well as needing to Root my One Plus 9 Pro.

I'm a beginner at developing because my field of study 35 years ago was computer tech with fiber optics as network. I have a severe issue that has me on the path of teaching myself white hat hacking to protect myself from a stalker hacker. My situation is even over the law enforcement pay grade. lol So, I believe I will have to root one of my device's to also run Kali Linux on my android. That's what led me here. I have to use my friends device or go to the library and use there computer to do my studying. This is my very first post in any forum. I'm nervous as heck because this person finds me very easily because he has my full identity and put me all over the dark web. So, what I just read on the other website that led me here. Explains that installing a new ROM ( firmware) that is already rooted might be the way to go. Said you guys are really good at this. I will probably use my One plus 9 Pro for this. It says that it's unlocked but I haven't totally payed it off due to having to leave my carrier because this person keeps harassing me. Constantly hijacking my browsers, changing my passwords and so on. I can write a book with all the diary that I have kept. The last straw really came in January when he breached my apple account and gave me a virus on my Mac and iphone that keeps coming back since it's in my cloud. I have since traded my 12 Pro for a much lesser 8 just because he knows the IMEI number. I basically can't use any of my devices because he keeps breaching them and wiping the info, clouds and messing with my settings constantly. I wish I had a better story for you guys but it is what it is. Thank you for reading. Look forward to talking and learning from you guys.

You like that one. He's big pain in my you know what.
I had my Face cracked last night. I am using a friend's new phone because of my issue. I got my One Plus out and was getting ready to set it up without data or wifi. I had just set password about an hour before and forgot my password. Above the password details in Red, says device is Rooted, you must enter password to unlock. I just about messed myself. How, who? I finally remembered my password and I can't find anything that says it is Rooted. The latest updates are there and the device says Network Unlocked though that I still owe my Carrier on it. Just another confusing situation I have to try to understand. Thought I would share this. Maybe you can tell me if it is or not Rooted.
