Tons of problems with Tilt after installing new CAB

I know this is my first post here but I've done my best to search the forums and I haven't found anything that looks like it helps me.
I just got my AT&T Tilt yesterday. It came unlocked (I'm using it with T-Mobile) and has an HTC ROM installed as well as various other apps (Ms. Pacman, TomTom 6, SuperDoku, etc.). I had some issues with it locking up yesterday (similar to what I'm experiencing now but to a much, much lesser degree) when I was playing around with it but those issues somehow corrected themselves.
This morning I installed the Tilt keyboard fix that TaurusBullba posted on here back in June to fix some mapping issues. Since I installed and soft reseted, everything has been going kinda haywire. The Wi-Fi turned itself off and I can't turn it back on. When I slide out the keyboard the orientation stays in portrait mode. When I try to shut down the phone using the power button it hangs forever. Now, actually, half the time I press the power button nothing happens at all.
I've tried uninstalling the CAB but that didn't fix anything at all. I'm afraid to try a hard reset because, from my understanding, I'm going to lose everything that came pre-installed on my phone for me. I should probably also add that last night I installed the Google Maps CAB with no problems whatsoever. Is there some simple solution I'm overlooking? Thanks much!
I would advise that if you have tried soft resets to try and resolve the issues and it hasn't worked, then perhaps a hard reset?
It sounds as if the software you have installed as either caused the problems or exacberated them (ie made them worse).
With hard reset it wipes everything back to when you got it. If you are able I would suggest that you plug it into the computer and make sure ActiveSync backups up your contents. You may also want to use this get all the files on the main memory either to the storage card or to you're PC.
As this is yo're first post I don't know how au fait you are with the above that I have mentioned
The preloaded apps will be reloaded again. You won't have an empty ROM if you do a hard reset. It will be as if you just flashed the ROM again.
Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and did a hard reset and it looks like the only thing I lost (or at least the only thing I miss) was TomTom. I've already reinstalled that using a link I found on here, and everything seems to be good to go.
I still have no idea what might have caused the problems though, so I'm afraid that they might come back or I might repeat some dumb mistake I made. I guess I'll just have to live with that for now.
clear storage / hard resets no big deal, just expect to do it every other week while you're finding all the cabs that work (or dont work) for you..
I generally clear storaged every week when i first got my tilt until I found all the app's I liked that didn't have side effects

GPS problem on fresh cupcake install

SO... first thread for me, please be gentle as i'm a virgin.
If this is the wrong forum for this post mods please move it and thanks in advance.
I searched XDA for "GPS" but I'm guessing the database is sql and doesn't like search terms that are 3 characters or less, no results found. Also used Google search of xda but came up with very little, so please bear with me.
Thought I'd shine the light of root on a friends G1 so I went through the whole process, rc29, root via telnet/terminal exploit, installed Cyanogen's custom recovery image 1.3.1 and ROM 3.6.2 and went on my way. A few days later got some messages from him, having troubles with headset muting, text messaging failures, gps problems, calendar showing midnight instead of month etc. and he wanted to go back to stock. "OK, NP" i say and head back a few days later to undo the surgeries.
Took him back to stock rc29 on a freshly formatted sdcard using DREAIMG.nbh so now he has the stock radio, bootloader, recovery image, spl and cupcake.
Seemed like everything was back to normal, he was happy, I was out of the weeds, all was well. Unfortunately he's just reported that GPS turns on when in Google maps but his location is never achieved. When using GPSStatus he is unable to find any satellites. So apparently GPS is b0rked.
He says he has done the whole turn off GPS, turn off your phone, wait for a clear day, go outside and stand on a mountain, turn on phone, turn on GPS, open maps and wait for 10 minutes thing to no avail.
So my question is: what should I have him do to troubleshoot this further, adb logcat? debug dump? what should I be looking for?
I know there is always a chance he's just got bum hardware (new replacement phone via T-Mobile's insurance, only a few weeks old) but the GPS worked fine before I rooted his phone. I wouldn't tend to think this is a possibility, but is there a chance something in Cyan's mod could have screwed up his hardware?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, he's going to send me his logs tomorrow so I can start digging for answers to this most perplexing problem.

You might have to start with baby steps on his phone. Do the whole process again but first wipe then go through the rooting process and then put JF Recovery .img 1.43 and JF's latest ROM I recommend v. 1.51 ADP and if all is well then go ahead and flash CyanogenMod's Recovery and his latest ROM...hopes this works out for your friend.
slight miss-communication...

Thanks for the reply... slight miss-communication here. He wants his phone stock, too much going on in his world to deal with dev-bugs and such. IMO that should make it alot easier to troubleshoot. Just wondering what to look for is all. I see where GPS is turned on in logcat, and I can see processes related to it in logcat. I'm not too familiar with the debug dump, hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks again.
Might not be much help, but a data point for you - probably nothing you did wrong. Before I rooted my girlfriend's phone, her GPS just refused to work entirely. Same symptoms you describe above, same troubleshooting effort. I tried multiple times over the course of a few days, no luck. Then randomly, while we were on a road trip, it began working. Using OTA Cupcake the entire time, she never had the Map update from Marketplace. Only change is we are not a 3G market at home, but were traveling in one when it started working (can't imagine what impact that would have, but it is the only change.)
So.. Not sure. Doubt it helps, but I do think there's something a bit flakey with the GPS. BTW, after that her GPS worked at home too. It just couldn't seem to get an initial location fix.

[Q] USB connection wrongly detetcted by phone

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been dealt with before, but I haven't found answer.
A strange bug occurred to my I9000: it wrongly detects an USB connection and propose me in the notification bar to mount umount SDcard on PC.
I have flashed a new kernel, rebooted. After that, it seems OK but again, this morning, having done absolutely nothing, the notification is present, as if the phone was connected to PC.
I must say that everything else seems to work properly. It's just annoying to have this notification permanently.
I've tried to clean the contacts using an appropriate aerosol but that did nothing.
Model informations : GT-I9000 2.2.1 I9000XXJQ1 2.6.32.9 root DELL105 1 rooted FROYO.XWJS8
Any idea?
Well actually, everything seems to work except that I can't get the phone recognized by PC anymore neither in mass storage nor in debug mode. :-(
Factory reset phone as first step .

Sorry but we need something less rude if we want iphone users to switch to android ;-)
Such a little bug cannot be solved by just saying: hey revert to factory settings and erase all your datas. That may solve the symptoms but not the reason.
I've digged a little through the internet and there are several reports like mine. It's worthwile to understand why.

factory reset is what it is,
it reverts phone back to factory standard. there was no issue when you first got the phone so obviously its something YOU have done.
so yes, a factory reset is whats needed, nothing rude about that.
Sorry but we need something less rude if we want iphone users to switch to android ;-)
We dont want i phone users to switch to Android they are mainly too thick don't read instructions and dont understand FAQS .
You have a problem probably caused by you or the rom you flashed or possibly settings .
Fix is to go back to stock Froyo or Eclair wiping phone but first step is Factory reset as its easier .
Or hang around and someone may have the solution or take it to a Samsung service centre .
jje
Thank you for the answer.
I'm already on an official froyo (samsung one) and didn't apply any lagfix since my last factory reset ;-)
I'm not an iphone user, I want to understand where is the trouble and help to fix it (even if I'm a noob on android, I know pretty well how linux works).
As I said before, other people seem to have encounter this problem but the solution given just erase all hints behind the possible bug (that may be hardware linked)
From my experiments it seems that the problem occur only after a first data connexion. The deconnexion is correctly detected (notifications disappear) then, randomly, a wrongly detected usb data connexion reappears.
What are the processes between detection and notification ? That's what I'm tracking.

Well in a sense I resolved my problem: the phone doesn't show an USB connection wrongly any more. Problem is: I did nothing! I can't explain it. I now suspect a hardware problem, but as several people on the net report the same thing, it's surprising. That would mean that some SGS have this problem and the vast majority are ok.

But my issue surfaced after 7 months of my purchase. And right now I am away from my Home country to get it serviced in the Samsung Service Center.

[Q] GPS "died"

Hi,
when I wanted to use Navigon the other day it did not get any GPS signal.
When I leave it on the map display it updates like every 10 minutes with somehwere that I passed while driving.
Restarts do not help and also other GPS based tools (like MapFactor Navigator) do the same.
Did this happen to anyone else / how do I recover from that (do not really like to try a factory reset since a) I do not know if it would help and b) I don't like to reinstall and setup all apps again.....)?
Thanks,
KalleH

Similar but not quite the same. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029729
I start suspecting a firmware/SW issue?
Thanks, saw that...but actualy a "short" shutdown (wait 5 minutes) a few times did not help.
Yesterday evening I switched off the phone and only switched it on this morning and ....hey.....GPS working again....
Strange

It got worse for me (see same link above: gps stopped working a few days later)...in the end I hard reset it .... it seem that did it. No more issues since then at least. I do not know yet what caused the gps settings to be corrupted, which makes me a bit nervous since I might have to do a full hard reset again in the future (restoring all my settings + SW takes 2-3 hours for me; cannot root device because I need company access).
Even if GPS is now working since the app update I now have to stop my Navigon app and clear the cache everytime to be able to start it again....

Screen has stopped working - help!

Hello all,
I have a Xiaomi Mi Mix (256gb) and I haven't changed anything since it came out of the box in March.
This morning, after working fine in the car, the screen stopped working. There are several grey lines at the top of the screen and the notification area is flickering, and I now can’t even unlock the screen. Nothing else will work. I’ve turned it off and on and rebooted multiple times, but this hasn’t done anything. It has never been dropped or thrown about.
Any ideas? I’d like to avoid doing a factory reset, but I’m sure that’ll be my next step (although I’ve no idea how I’ll do that!). I’m a complete novice when it comes to doing anything complicated with phones, so I’m in dire need of help. I’m not desperate to send it back to China!
I really hope someone can help…..
Graeme
Seems like hardware problem.
But to check if its a software problem you have no other choice than factory reset.
Thanks. I suspect it is too, but hopefully a factory reset will help.
I tried to follow these instructions at Hardreset .info - but rather than the recovery screen I just get a screen telling me to plug the USB in and to go to pcsuite.mi.com. Fine for backing up, but not resetting! Any suggestions?

Was wondering how you would do that with no touch screen. Tried mi flash tool? Or fastboot? Not sure how far I would go if having to return to vendor. Is it possible the cable wasn't connected properly from new and just totally came off. If you're brave could take battery cover off and take a peek. Don't know what the answer is unfortunately.
