Roaming and storage issue - Redmi 9 / Poco M2 Questions & Answers

Hi people! My Redmi 9 going crazy every time I travel to US from CA. Roaming sign comes on and off repeatedly, voicemail notification pops up and data connection interrupts. Also, when I check storage, it says that I have 16gb of video files on my phone but I hardly have photos on my phone. I was trying to locate big files, checked folder by folder, no success. This "video" section of storage always growing... Only big downloads are offline maps and it's around 4gb. I was thinking to do a factory reset, but would like to avoid doing that.

[Q] High Data Usage Problem (Tilt 2 on ATT)

Hey all, I did not have much luck using the search. Tried to find other people who have had this problem. **Plus nobody responded in the General forum so here I am again. **
We have 4 ATT Tilt 2 phones in my department. All with the same rom, radio, settings, etc. The difference in the phones is that 2 of them were purchased about a year earlier than the other 2.
*PROBLEM* TWO of the phones (the newer purchased Tilt 2's) we are getting alerts for high data usage from ATT. Looked at the ATT data logs, sure enough they have high data usage, large amounts at odd times. like 20mb - 100+mb transfers in the late night early morning, during the day. Not good, it is all adding up quick with no suspect in sight. The 2 users with this problem, use the phone data less than I do for day to day tasks and I am way under the alert limit, its not something they are causing---some of these data periods are while the user is ASLEEP (and no, we do NOT use MS myphone sync). Its got to be a phone software or software compatibility with the newer Tilt 2 hardware or something. I tried a couple different ROMS, same problem. Right now we are all on Energy.RHODIUM.21684.Sense2.5.Cookie.sencity.Nov.0 8
Radio: 4.49.25.77 (best signal in our area) Michigan
Please help. Thanks to anybody who can provide some guidance.
sounds like it is connecting for something and not disconnecting. I have this problem sometimes when it connects to download my email and weather, it will stay connected all night and kill my battery by the time i wake up.
TRY THIS, CREDITS TO THE GUY THAT HAD THE TIME TO PUT THIS TOGETHER, NOT ME
Enable Auto Data Disconnect for Auto Email Downloads and Other Downloads with a Cab File
When you have auto email downloads enabled, data is not disoconnected after mail retrieval and thus your battery is drained much faster. Modify the following reg edit to have data disconnect after 60 seconds. You can test this by tapping on the notfification bar while downloading emails and watch the data connection close after idle for 60 seconds. Please note. Data connection will NOT auto disconnect if you have any HTC Sense auto download enabled such as Weather, Twitter, Stocks, Facebook or Time Sync. Please set these apps to manual download only. Please note that this setting has the possible effect of disabling simultaneous voice and data on some devices, even if you are on a capable network and signal. See Tip 70 for an app that works with even HTC data downloads.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime = 60
SuspendResume = should be blank. Delete "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" text.
VPNCacheTime = 60
Finally An Auto Data Disconnection That Works - Save Battery Life!
Download the following cab file http://www.commmgrpro.com/CommMgrPro...witch.V2.8.cab
You can set it to disconnect data after 60 seconds or more or less thus saving you battery. Read the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ght=bandswitch
Tried and tested for over a 2 weeks on my HD2 and works perfectly. Use INSTEAD of Tip 33.
The only problem i have with this is that it kind of defeats the purpose of a smart/connected phone. Its just so strange that only 2 of the 4 phones have this high data use problem, and they were all setup by the same person.
But on the other hand, it would be a good test method for data usage before and after. THANK YA!

make sure your weather isnt set to download on its own because it will not auto disconnect.
other things like email and stuff like that will usually not auto disconnect either.
Ok we will try that and see what happens. Will report back

Have this exact same problem using the latest Simplicity rom. Nothing, not even the weather is set to auto update, and by and large I no longer even use the phone save for 2 or 3 phone calls a month. Yet, like clockwork, get data warnings.
I wonder if this has anything to do with it (SEEING THAT BOTH OF OUR USERS WITH THE PROBLEM WERE LINKED TO YAHOO MAIL ACCOUNTS! And not the rest of us)

That problem is not just on wp7 is happening on iphones too. so u better unlink those yahoo mail accoounts or put your setting for manual downlad.
I unlinked my Yahoo account and disabled auto update of Sense Weather, my data usage did go down, not that I care about it as I have unlimited, but was surprised at how much better battery life I now have.

[Q] Photo's deleted when Media Scanner Runs/no Connection with bars

Trying to figure out what is causing all the pictures in my gallary to be deleted when Media Scanner is Running. At least I think it is media scanner, but every time my phone is reset, all my photo's are deleted. Any ideas?
I am also having issues where I have 3-4 bars of 3g, but have no connection at all. No internet works, no market or anything. Will come and go. AT&T using Seredipity 7.
Are you saying that they disappear and reappear while it is running, or disappear entirely? The media scanner is what puts the pictures in the gallery, so I guess it would make sense that they were unavailable while it was running (although to be honest, I don't know that I've ever checked to see if this was indeed the case).
As far as your connection being wonky, what area of the country are you in? I've had intermittent connection issues as well that I'm beginning to think aren't on my end.
as in deleted..as in not even a file on my phone anymore. as far as connection, I am in the US, and this intermittent thing just started recently even though I have 4 bars. Its not the at&t 5% thing either.

For the service issue, I am in the US as well (NH) and have been having intermittent issues as well just as you have described (full bars, active data connection, active connection to google, but nothing actually works). It seems to be better today than the past week, but it could be mostly in my head. AT&T is very inconsistent up here (and probably everywhere else as well) so sometimes it's hard to tell.
As far as the media scanner goes, I dunno. You could try deleting the data for Media Storage (that's where media scanner stores it's data, it will repopulate automatically), but I don't know why that would make it delete files from your SD card.
---------- Post added at 06:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:40 PM ----------
What ROM are you running?
serendipity 7. Been on the phone since I got it, never had this issue before. Kind of just noticed when all my photos were gone. Went into files and weren't there. Thought was strange..then took a camera pic today, and when I had the connection issues, I restarted it..and deleted. Tested again..took pic, restarted phone, deleted.
any other ideas? still happening :/
Is your SD card corrupt? If you're saving to an external SD, have you tried saving it to the internal one and seeing if they stay put?
I am not using an external SD Card.

Deleted wifi networks keep returning, even without backup restore

I keep having a problem on my Nexus 6 where if I delete I wifi network from my phone, after a short time it comes back with the password and connects to the network I deleted. I do not enable backup/restore ever. I was running chrom, deleted everything off my device including system and internal SD. Installed purenexus, same problem.

if i had to guess, i would say its just google ignoring your wishes, and backing up anyway.
i seem to remember someone reporting this before, but i could be mistaken.
I bet you got a google backup out there some how. Hit google dashboard, then Android devices and delete backup data.
Also turn off always scan for Wifi Networks and save yourself some battery.

I just manually backed up a music file. It was 5 mb. Try breaking it into smaller chunks and uploading it that way.

It's probably a problem with your account on their end. If you search online for similar issues it seems common among people who use it often. You could use USB OTG and keep a physical copy, or Google drive.

Question Usb storage solution

Hello all.
I got stuck with the 128g model s21 ultra because they had no stock of any of the other sizes with tmo. Of course, now my trial period is up, they have the 256 in stock. -.-
Anyway. I purchased a T7 drive to use as supplemental storage since there are no options out there for SD cases for this phone.
Problem is, my note 10+, I miss it already, was able to pick the drive up and read it in the Gallery app. I was able to peruse the photos and vids on the t7 with no issue. The s21 gallery app refuses to acknowledge the drive exists.
Is there a gallery app that can be set to read usb storage as well? Or am I stuck with having to use the lackluster files app?
Thanks

What filesystem are you using on the T7?
To answer properly. I just formated the T7 drive using my phone. PC states it as exfat.
@gravija
You don't need OTG file mgr for T7. I use regular USB-C cable w/my S21U and as soon as I connect it to unlocked phone it shows that small 'read only partition'(pic1) then after unlocking T7 (w/fingerprint) it shows actual files on the drive (pi2>pic3).
You can also see the T7 in Device Care under Storage > 3 dots> Advanced > Storage(on the bottom)
All this is pretty much straightforward, firstly I would check everything on PC, make sure you have you password and fingerprint set and verify that you can access the drive on PC.
One more important thing, make sure you always unmount the T7 after using it w/ PC or phone.

Ouch. No way I trade my 10+ for something with less storage. Flash sticks are awkward... maybe use cloud storage. Not something I normally recommend... however.
Nexus photo viewer could help.
Instructables has a basic guide to make a phone case with an OTG connection and SD Card built-in. May the case manufacturers are missing a niche market here?

I had no choice. My phone was almost completely unuseable with all the failed phone calls, both incoming and outgoing. Then the fact I could not get text messages to go out all the time. Tmo absolutely refused to replace my phone with the same model, saying the same problem will just continue. They also claimed they could not get the 5g variant of the 10+.

I got my t7 to show up now too. I had to format it using the formwat option and not use the samsung app. BUT, my main issue now if that the drive does not integrate into the OS at all. Seems to be all devices recently. I was looking to not have to use different apps, video players, file browsers... All just to view or edit the files between both internal storage and the t7 drive I am using.
Basically. I would like to find a single gallery that can see both my internal storage and external storage at the same time. As it stands now, I have to have a file browser to browse the T7 and then I need to use a different Gallery app and different Video app just to browse the files. In tune, I need to to have a Gallery for my internal storage, a video player, music player, photo viewer, and a browser just for the external drive.
Hook up yer t7 and browse to a video, try to play it from the t7 using the video player. The samsung video player will give you an error. Same with opening a photo and or music file. They will only work once transfered to internal storage.
THey

I tried Nexus. It would not even see the T7 drive at all. I am finding this is more an issue of Googles "Scoped storage" update change. ALL of this is. Basically adaptable storage is on its way out.

The 4G variant streams movies fine. It's probably the more desirable variant because it uses the Snapdragon* chipset and doesn't suffer excessive battery consumption that the first generation 5G phones were notorious for.
The 21U is apparently suffering display blackout issues in some phones of this model. There's at least one thread on XDA about it. Samsung is being less than transparent about it.
*I may be mistaken but I think all the Snapdragon variants are 4G.
Wait, you can password-protect these things?

Yeah. Tmobile straight up lied about the availability of the 4g models. As I called sprint after the fact to have them fix my voicemail, which TMobile said there was nothing they could do to fix it on their end. (Sprint tech had it fixed in 10 minutes mind you.) Anywho. I had no issues with my note 10+ until I got on the Tmobile sim card. A sprint tower in my area went offline and I no longer had reliable service. Im a medical case and need to have a a phone for emergency calls. (No house phone.) Uhm sorry I am off topic.
Yeah. My s21 was not new. It is a remanufacted phone that was previously sent in for BSoD. It was cheaper than the new one monthly and I still got a sign on deal with it. I have to give Tmo credit for helping me there... But I also see it as them just doing retention work. If the phone fails again for black screen, like my friend, who is on his third s21+, I am going to ask for a different phone. This phone is nice, but not worth it over my note 10+. I am sick of this limited storage already. Having to keep an extra battery, carry around my portable storage and cable. The thing overheats constantly. I am also still having problems with RCS and text messages not working.
Now, in doing research into this recently I am finding out Google is apparently dropping support for apks now?

Well I use T7 as convenient way to transfer/piggyback/store files between S21U and desktop, the encryption is protected by the fingerprint sensor so, according to Samsung your files on T7 are encrypted and safe. When I plug it into pc or phone the fingerprint sensor lights up and to open the storage you have to match the enabled fingerprint. All that works fine as OTG storage but I also have Pixel phone and I can't use T7 with it because of different sf and that sucks, can't have the T7 OTG convenience to extract any files from Pixel w/o re-formatting each time the drive between fat32 and ntfs.
