Best Version LG V40 for root and modding? - LG V40 Questions & Answers

I think I'm going to pick up a new LG v40 in a few days cos my Oneplus 7t pro mclaren is ruined. Which version/model is the best/easiest to root and or mod? The last few phones I picked up, I never bothered to ask and ended up with the absolute worst ones (looking at you Tmobile) so I definitely want to find out before I buy. Please guys gimme some of that good advice!

Are you jumping to Axon 7?

Wondered everyone's opinions on the matter, for all it's worth, despite the lack of support we've had for our Axon's I could and probably will be jumping to the 7, the specs are too good for me to pass up and I can't live without that quality audio anymore. I like my Axon Elite but the Axon 7 is pretty perfect, just needs more support and we'll be golden. Is anyone else here upgrading?
I think exactly the same like you. I'm not completely sure yet about jumping to Axon 7 because before I would like to know another options like Nexus 2016, but after seeing last launched devices from another brands, in my opinion, Axon 7 seems to be the best alternative. The only doubt is about technical support but I think that if Axon 7 is going to work with daydream VR, they neccesary will have to update it to android N. So, it is a kind of guarantee, isn't it?
Yeah, you're definitely right as far as thinking the same way... I mean most people at this point of time see it being a flagship killer, competitive with the S7 Edge, and it has beautiful front-facing speakers which most people (like myself) would die for on my phones since we don't have to look like goofs cupping a phone anymore. That all along with the fact that the specs are quality (including a Samsung-manufactured Camera) all for a decent price... I'm totally blown away!
Now, as you mentioned about the customer service (warranty, general service)... I too am a bit sceptical, especially as this is the same situation which I encountered while thinking that Oneplus would be amazing in every way and that their phones would work perfectly for me... well... soon enough I realized from hearing horror stories from other people that their service is ****. Definitely makes you think twice
Edit: +1 for them including a drop + smashed screen warranty though! (1 or 2 years I think afaik!). I guess it'll just depend on if I can handle waiting xx weeks while it's sent off to who knows where to get fixed if that ever happens.
It would be nice if they have an exchange offer for the axon 7..I have an axon pro haven't been that happy want a nexus or a galaxy which I hate for the software otherwise it's such an all-rounder.
In a heartbeat if root was available. No root is def deal breaker for most people on this forum.
If the bootloader is locked then 0 change I'll get the axon 7.
I sold my Lux I want this phone but the bootloader will probably be locked again.
So will there be root and custom roms for this phone? It's between this and the Oneplus 3 for me but ZTE has much better specs plus that 2 year warranty. It would actually be more expensive to buy the Oneplus 3 with their 2 year protection plan (extra $80).
Waiting to see which one has the better camera. At least the Oneplus 3 will have tons of custom roms , my Oneplus One has been running great on Sultan's CM 13 build.
after how ZTE did us by locking the bootloader and not even root. I will never buy another ZTE device. We have been played all ZTE had to do was give us a code, like HTC does to unlock our bootloader and we assume the responsibility if we were to mess things up, it would not be their fault. I would have signed a no fault clause. NEVER AGAIN ZTE THERE ARE BETTER UNLOCKED AND ROOTABLE DEVICES BEING RELEASED!!! We still don't have root or anything to make this a device to keep I wish ZTE would buy it back, I'm selling it for $250 in mint condition not a scratch on it. if anyone is interested let me know.
ALSO GET ON ZTE AND LET THEM KNOW THAT UNTIL THEY UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS FOR THE AXON PRO WE WILL BOYCOTT THE ZTE AXON 7

Most people couldn't care less about unlocking the bootloader or even rooting their phone.
Most people don't have the time to waste unlocking the bootloader OR rooting their phone.

People on this forum do. This is XDA DEVELOPERS. Of course people want to tinker with software. Don't be so close minded and not let people vent if they are unhappy with a manufacturer. Companies should give customers what they want when it costs them virtually nothing. Most people on this forum want to use their phone for what it is capable of, and that means rooting and custom roms. Don't be a jerk about it. :good:

You are selling an Axon 7 for 250$? You nuts? ;-P
I definitely will not be buying any more ZTE devices. I have the ZTE AXON ELITE A2016. ZTE never gave us an OS upgrade they had promised us. This is unacceptable for a flagship device. Furthermore, I tried Samsung's VR device last month - mind blowingly good. So that's another good reason to head back to Samsung after many years away (I left them because they stopped supporting microSD).
ill also never own a zte device again i picked up a revised made nov 2016 (no bootloop) lg g4 its so much faster than the zte axon a2016 elite despite the worse soc all zte did was make a physically good device with poor software and no updates plus terrible customer service i called lg before buying to get a list of safe serials to buy g4 and they even made me an account and promised a g5 if my g4 dies

Never ZTE again. No support at all.

Do you guys recommend this R1 RD or the Samsung Galaxy On5?

Here's some specs on the on5? http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-On5_id9820
What do you think?
That Samsung has 1.5 GB RAM and 8GB flash. I would get the Blu with 2GB and 16GB instead. However, if you have Amazon Prime you can get the Moto G4 Play for USD99 right now which IMHO is better that this Blu.
You're too late! The Blu R1 HD is no longer being sold and is supposed to be replaced by a newer model at some point.
Also, note that if you buy the Amazon Prime version of the Moto G, in return for a lower price you lose the option of being able to unlock the bootloader, get root, or flash custom roms. I would never buy a locked down phone like that.
On5 has 0 dev support, aside from TWRP. R1 has no real mods for it besides a ported ROM, but at least the guys here are (or at least seem to be) trying to get things done. The On5 doesn't even have its own subforum. If you want dev support and can find a place to buy an R1, I'd say get an R1.
Thanks guys. I wound up getting an LG Phoenix 2. Best Buy had it for $29 on Black Friday and couldn't pass on it based on reviews.

A relative has this phone and it's quite impressive for the price.
Not really sure on root/ROMs. I've been wondering what kind of support, if any, this Phoenix 2 has. I'm hesitant to tinker until I see a lot of feedback.

Almost bought one even tho I don't need it. But I'll feel pretty stupid if I slam my Blu in the car door like I did with my Moto G2.

should i get this phone?

I was thinking about trading my Huawei ascend XT for this phone. one reason being is Huawei shutting down the option to unlock the bootloader through their site. I feel like the only thing I'm losing with the leeco phone is screen size which I'm sure ill get over.
edit: so I decided to trade and I'm glad I did, even if its just for the great rom support.
Good decision. It's one of the best smartphones I've had regarding quality/price.

Help an HTC Owner Switch?

Howdy, folks.
I've been an HTC owner for many years (Tilt, HD2, Inspire, M8 now a 10), but my HTC10 is showing it's age and they don't have much to offer me right now. So I'm thinking of a Samsung, One+ or Huawei phone. Your insight on a couple things would help.
How important is it to buy an unlocked phone? I've been an AT&T customer for over a decade and really don't have a reason to switch. However, I may have occasion to travel overseas in the near future - likely the EU somewhere.
Which rooting method is recommended, and what side effects does it have? I'm a noob to Samsung, though I've unlocked and rooted every HTC phone I've owned, and every time it's affected speaker volume and possibly other optimizations.
Is it better to get an International version or should I stick with a US version? I'm out of contract with AT&T for a long time, so I don't necessarily need to buy from them, I can source from any seller.
Can you recommend a good reseller? I'm looking for a first quality phone with warranty. But like everyone else, I'd like to find a deal. I'm a member at Costco, but should I be looking elsewhere, say to Amazon or others?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Question I just bought a factory unlocked NE2215 -- OnePlus 10 pro

Hi all,
Are there any benefits to getting factory unlocked oneplus 10 pro -- NE2215? Reason being is that I'm used to seeing the UC (ultra capacity) on the tmobile version (I saw the UC icon in the store while playing with the store demo).
Any feedback and/or advice will be taken and appreciated. Keep it clean folks. =)
Update:. Due to the lack of a MSM/unbrick tool and OnePlus not releasing any kernels, I have since returned my now-former OnePlus 10 pro to best buy.
Thanks to those devs and end users for reaching out and proving that I'm not alone.
I bought one also, from OnePlus Store. The last time I bought a phone from T-Mobile they added a big monthly equipment surcharge to my bill for 24 months even though I fully own my own equipment, and increased my base subscription rate for no evident reason. I noticed after a month. It took many hours to remove the charges and also to return my monthly charges to what they were. Scammy. So not buying from them was a benefit, this time.
They gave me significant trouble getting it activated, ostensibly because my billing is still handled by Sprint. So ease of activation would be the only upside I see to buying at a T-Mobile store.

After reading this, yes, I echo your sentiment and frustration. I *had* an s22 (base model) and it had horrible battery life. Hell, I disabled most of the bloatware and still the battery was a fast drain. It took t-mobile almost 1 month to completely clear off the s22 after repeated phone calls. I would rather go to best buy and buy their phones, knowing that they're factory unlocked (I believe they are).
My advice if you're still in your cooling off period is to send it back and get a pixel 7..
Being factory unlocked I'd have thought would mean you can use any SIM.
Not a bad version of this phone, it's just a shame the phone (modding wise) is so lacking, plus it has quite a few issues, I wish I was wrong but I'm afraid I'm not...
OnePlus is certainly on its way out.
2215 and 2217 have different bands so uc won't work on 2215. vowifi doesn't even work. i know cause i couldn't get the free gogo internet on my united flight yesterday.

Is the Pixel 7 any good? I heard it has/has signal issues. Please elaborate.
I picked up my oneplus 10 pro this past weekend. Return deadline is December 3rd.
Thanks for the heads up! =)

Pixel 7 has some ROMs, an active development community, it's not a perfect phone but it ticks the right boxes for me and it'll have great development for years to come..
The 10 pro as much as I like the hardware has some software issues that are awful, plus there's no ROMs, no MSM tool, no custom recovery, not even a custom kernel as OnePlus / oppo are not releasing the full kernel source code.
Pretty appalling.
Plus they charge 3rd party service centres to use their MSM tool, something that costs nothing to use and has been free for years..
Read some of the other threads, I'm not alone in thinking this way... It's a shame but unfortunately it's our reality

Yes, OnePlus 10 Pro has good hardware and loved the specs but damn.........
Each individual is entitled to his/her their own opinion. I absolutely have no issues with my oneplus 10 pro, bought directly from OnePlus site in USA. Wi-Fi calling, t-mobile signal, 5G etc, all work flawless in the DC area. I used to root and mod my phones but have absolutely no need for the same. Is this the best available phone? Absolutely not. Pixel 7 is great looking phone that I got for my son but damn thing can't get signal in most of the metro underground stations but my son still love it. Each individual has different needs and expectations from their devices. If you are into custom rom, this is not a phone for you. Quite honestly, custom ROM community is diminishing each year for reasons which are beyond the scope of this particular question. Good luck with your decision. Either way, you cant go wrong
