I recently purchased a used Moto G7 Power (US version) and discovered after flashing Lineage OS that the phone was still locked to T-Mobile. The seller thought he had successfully unlocked it and contacted T-mobile on my behalf since he's still a current customer. They told him to complete the unlock he needed to complete the following command, "Settings > More Connection Settings > Network Unlock > Permanent Unlock" Since I'm currently running LOS on the phone, I no longer have these options.
So it seems like I'd need to flash back to the T-Mobile stock ROM to successfully unlock the phone. Is that correct?
If so, would the following guide accomplish this? I'm not experienced with flashing software so I wanted to get a 2nd opinion before I start mucking around and inadvertently brick the phone.

In this guide, we'll be sharing the easy steps to install the T-Mobile Motorola XT1955-5 (G7 Power) firmware flash file (codenamed Ocean). As an

Hi all,
I'm new to the android family and I'm starting with an Atrix HD I got from a friend. It's factory locked US ATT. I rooted, unlocked the bootloader, installed CWM, and installed CM11. My mistake was that I did all of this before inputing the unlock code from ATT (which took a few days to arrive).
My situation is this. The phone is working as I want it to but is locked. It doesn't prompt for an unlock code and I don't know how to put it in otherwise. I've seen various places online that I need to go back to the stock firmware to put it in.
I can't for the life of me get it back to stock firmware. I've tried flashing a Mexican rom via SAMCRIPP'S FRUIT CAKE THREAD but it soft-bricked. I've restored a backup and am sitting at CM11 again.
What direction should I be going in? I'm pretty much totally lost.
Caveat: I have a mac and have very limited access to windows (aka RSD Lite)
This might be a dumb question but the rom threads I've read don't specifically note compatibility in most cases.
Is everyone flashing roms assumed to be in a pure edition model?
Or are the roms cross compatible with all Moto x 2014 models as long as you are bootloader unlocked with custom recovery?
For reference I have the republic wireless Moto x 2014
XT1094 model (cdma) with bootloader unlocked and rooted on Android 5.1
I would imagine this question also applies to other carrier models though.
As long as your bootloader is unlocked, any Moto X 2014 ROM will work.
Moto's website won't allow unlocking of the bootloader. Do I need to sell this phone and get something I can root? There's gotta be a workaround/known fix.

*Edit* Sorry I read to fast and thought it was a Verizon cdma model, missed that it was the republic wireless model. Not sure if that is unlock-able through their site.
It does. Just unlocked my Verizon wireless Moto X 2014 through Motorola's website.
Go to Motorola's site and follow the instructions:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
On the step 2 when you are getting your device ID by typing "fastboot oem get_unlock_data" and you copy and past it into the "can my device be ulocked" box, be sure to remove the spaces before clicking the button or it will say this: your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking. Remove the spaces and it now works.

Just to verify do you have the republic wireless version?
If so I did the following to root, unlock the bootloaded and unlock the sim:
Do note that I have two phones both the same moto x 2014 republic wireless version 32gb running android 5.1
the first one worked after some fiddling, the second one I am still fiddling with to get it unlocked so note that you may have to try some steps multiple times etc.
I will report back if I can figure out how to get it to work 100% of the time.
the big issue is with losing root while running sunshine.
once the bootloader is unlocked its clear sailing.
Gain temporary root using kingroot from here: https://kingroot.net/
unlock the bootloader using sunshine (Note this costs $25) download here: http://theroot.ninja/
Install TWRP (the easiest way is to download the app and flash the version for moto x 2014 victara) this also has the added benefit of rebooting to recovery for you as this phone can be a pain to get into recovery sometimes using the hardware buttons.
Flash a rom (This unlocks the SIM as well) note I used resurrection remix, other roms will likely work to unlock the sim but this one for sure will do it: Resurrection Remix
A few notes:
when temp rooting with Kingroot:
Sometimes during the process the phone will reboot (the first phone rebooted twice, the second one diddnt reboot at all, both were successful) if it reboots just open kingroot again once it comes back up.
for some reason often when you try to run sunshine you will lose root during the testing phase, I had to try several times. on the first phone turning on the "allow OEM unlocking" seemed to fix this but on the second phone it makes no difference so its hard to say if that was actually the issue.
kingroot gains temporary root and installs itself as a system app and can be tough to remove. once you flash a new rom it gets rid of it though
On Sunshine:
Sometimes when running sunshine you lose root through kingroot, if it fails for any reason this is likely what happened, you will have to reboot and try re-rooting.
Sunshine runs tests for free but actually unlocking costs $25
On Sim unlocking:
I tested this on T-mobile and Metro PCS both worked both voice and LTE data
I have only tested using the resurection remix rom
When I first installed the rom the phone would ring but no dialer would appear, I had to set the dialer as the default app to get it to work (Not sure why that wasnt set)
Thanks - this is a verizon model I'm going to give this a try.

Greetings, I just picked up the Moto e5 Supra (cricket wireless). Gotta say the 5,000mah battery is awesome and the waterproofing is a nice feature. After not having an android since Note 2 I decided to move back from Apple after my iPhone 6s Plus had issues with the digitizer board flexing. Found this beauty of a phone for a great deal at a local Cricket store for $150..
I guess i have a few questions about this phone and rooting. To start can anyone confirm that this is the same as the Moto E5 Plus? Below is my phones info. Basically looking for confirmation. Also any other info on this phone and rooting/ROMS would be appreciated. it's been a while since i last had my Note 2.

According to this, it is in fact the e5 Plus with a different name.
I have the Boost Mobile (Sprint) E5 Plus XT1924-8 and it's the same specs. I was able to unlock the bootloader and root via the instructions on the E5 forum, just have to make sure to make a backup in TWRP.
Please help me unlock my bootloader. I have the cricket wireless varient. Says its ineligible to be unlocked. XT1924-6
It can't be done if it's from Cricket
any updates on this?
I just found this in my developer options for me e5 supra... this means I shpuld be good to go right?

I am actually getting ready to start the root process myself I do remember about Motos was that the carrier didn't matter because Motorola comes unlocked . the carrier can hide that from you but the unlock process was actually on the Motorola website if you go to motorola.com or.net or whatever it is all the instructions you need are there to unlock the bootloader mode which by the way he happens to be the hardest part of the whole process all of its easy . I don't mind helping out where I can mix anyone needs it but TBH I'm not nearly as experienced as most these guys

try the lolinet website for moto E5 Plus (hannah) if your on cricket. flash the factory firmware and it has to be a build equivalent to whats currently flashed or newer.
Ok so what I thought was a unolocked z3 play, was indeed a flashed sprint phone. So when I reset it, I lost the ability to use my verizon sim.
I had just bought it from Amazon and might return it, but it's brand new and if someone can give me a pretty thorough guide I might be able to avoid returning it.
It is a model XT1929-3 type M356A. In the settings it says the device is locked to sprint, and "about phone" says the software variant is Sprint, and the software channel says sprint also. It's one of the phones with call plus on it. It's on Android 9 July 1 2020 patch and the baseband says BECKHAM_NA_CUST
From my reading I would have to flash the ROM to something like USC XT1929-4 or the like with fast boot, correct? How exactly do I do that? I can follow directions very well even without pics(but they are nice), but I don't do command prompt often- this took me forever to "type", but I recently got my two new Fire HD tablets debloated and I have hope I can do this.... I already have the USC BECKHAM rom from lolinet I mentioned above and have enabled dev options and flipped the OEM UNLOCKING switch that says it allows the bootloader to be unlocked, but all this seems a bit daunting, so please help an old guy out.
So, I've seen some posts concerning this and, at this point, I'm ready to purchase and replace the motherboard.
My daughter recently acquired a used Moto X4 (running Android 9 "pie") from a friend and she wants it de-Googled. I can get the unlock data to unlock the bootloader but Motorola says that the phone is unlockable - that would be because the phone had been purchased from Amazon (software variant / channel = "amz"). I think that if the ROM and bootloader could be replaced with stock (which, apparently could be done if the phone were on a lower Android version), I'd be in business but everywhere I've looked says that this is impossible - Motorola must do an amazing job of locking down their phones!
Since I'm just about ready to purchase a new motherboard ($60+ at cellspare), any "dangerous" suggestions are welcome since she refuses to use the phone as-is - can't say that I blame her.
You could try to flash the phone with the stock ROM of the google FI variant, but whether or not that works would be anybodys guess as I don't believe the IMEI would be changed. If you are planning to get a new device anyway, it couldn't hurt to try it and see before you buy another phone. I have the google Fi variant, and I know for a fact that the bootloader can be unlocked on it.

I have tried loading different ROMs onto a locked Motorola phone in the past - the bootloader will not permit itself to be overwritten without being unlocked. As I understand it, there's a hidden partition where a copy of the bootloader resides and, with the locked bit set, any attempt to overwrite the boot partition will trigger a check against the hidden partition and will prevent the overwrite.
