I have moved his over to the appropiate section and copied and pasted my question.
I am new to this forum and apologize for my noobness in advance as i wasn't sure either to post this here or in the Android Software and Hacking General section and i appreciate any comments as i understand i am new here and have contributed nothing to this forum. Here is my dilemma, i recently purchased a t mobile g1 from a friend about two weeks ago because i was interested in the android OS. Being in the UK it is locked to the T-mobile network which my existing sim is orange. I understand that there was a developers ROM that was released (codenamed holiday (adp 1.1)) which allows other networks to be used on the g1 e.g orange etc as its a developer version. I was wondering what compatible ROMS for the g1 (htc dream) that would allow me to use my orange sim. Again i really do appreciate nay comments and help i receive and understand i have not contributed to this community and it is highly rude to ask for something when given nothing.
Changing the ROM on your device will not unlock it so that you can use it on any network. You need to get an unlock code for your device. T-Mobile US will give these out to their subscribers but I don't know about your carier. If they don't you can get it online too. They will need your phone's IMEI to generate the code. Just put in the new SIM and it will prompt you for the code regardless of the ROM you have.
isnt there such a thing as a hardware unlock though if i use a custom rom?. I brought this phone from a friend so i doubt phoning t-mobile will help get me a code.
p.s. cheers for taking the time to comment
No, I'm fairly sure the only way to unlock this device is what I posted above.
i thought you just needed a t-mob sim to login and then you were free to choose after this whole rooting/flashing thing.
its already a long time ago, so i might confuse a lot and its only that what i think to know. nothing sure..
i wanted an android phone and my friend was saying i culd get his off him and i thought that be a perfect time to get into the android os and stuff, i wasnt ure if i coulld by rooting/flashing that id be able to use another network thats why i wondered if i flashed it to a deveopler rom the adp1 one i could us another sim, i will look into the method beav_35 put but im not sure on any reputable sites to trust to do this method.
I have flashed the uro rom of the galaxy tab on a us sgh-1987 att samsung tab , i inserted my at&t sim card and it will not allow me to make calls . Can some point me in the right direction to fix this. The at&t sim card i am using has voice and data. Or have i not done something properly.
You need to be using a different modem than the one included in the Euro rom. I believe either the Bell Canada or Rogers modems should work to enable voice on ATT. I'm using the Euro JMI rom with the Bell JK5 modem and it works fine for me.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
I followed the instructions and for some odd reason the sim that came with my samsung is the only one that will work even though my phone is unlocked and i am using another att sim card that has voice and data.
And when i go to check wireless settings it keeps me me in flight mode.
Using JMIv2 here. Just made a call -- seems fine.
I full flashed JMIv2 over top of JMEv4.
Your not doing something correct.
Also please post in the correct subforum. This in no way has anything to do with android development. This belongs in general. Read much??

Weren't you on other threads contradicting people about 3g+ voice using service menus?
I am confused about your setup - what model tab? I thought you had t-mobile tab.
Anyway, on an at&t tab use the bell i9000 modem. Check your apn and network mode afteryou reboot.
The iemi blocking by t-mobile stops people from using data.
And besides clubtech does a perfect write up to get everything working. SEARCH IS YOUR FRIEND.
Good point!
Thank you
i appreciate the advice in pointing me in the right direction. but it seems like a lot of you aren't very newbie knowledge friendly. i posted what i was experiencing in the hopes of getting a point in the right direction. not a solution. turns out my Sim card was corrupted. all i had to do is go and grab a new one. i apologize if my question seemed too basic and trivial to you . but it turns out that i just made a logical investigative approach to my problem . I followed rotos guide to the letter so i assumed that AT&T had also latched on to the idea of imei blocking. I have done several apps for the android market ,and am constantly wanting to learn more . some of you have great skill sets but no patience for new comers. but all in all i will not post in the forum anymore if it involves being downgraded for simply asking for help, isn't this why we have forums for the techs the geeks the cpu nerds. who would have thought amongst intelligent people we still deal with aristocracy .
i did have a t-mobile tab and then returned and bought att tab and it works just fine now . like i said in the forum i am learning so please bear with me
Aristocracy has and will always be common among us nerds blame it on our our societal influences.
Regardless of that, people are more upset about you not searching the forum/threads. Please use the search option , it will save us all time and wasted bandwidth. Also post in the correct sub forum. This section is meant for what it was named for, development only. There is a general/ Q&A section.
Once again, I can't stress the search feature enough. It will seriously help. I promise.
Not flaming you, just trying to help direct you
i appreciate it thank you

I'm on AT&T. I wanted to know what rom AT&T users are on who are using a rooted tmo note 4. Can you please move this thread back to the AT&T forum?
Still using Firekat. never done me wrong to make we want to change lol.
FireKat or Poprocks, by Dev: Mega.... it's the best ROM for the Note 4. I invite anyone to prove me wrong lol...I average 6 hours of on screen time a day with regular use. My record is 8.5 Hours of on screen time on a full charge on 50% brightness. It's killer.
That thread is for the N910a device, which is the ATT Note 4. It is not for people using their T-Mobile Note 4's on ATT. The forum is for the device, not the carrier.
Edit:
Plus, 1) roms don't change the basebands on your phone nor do they affect usage on different carriers. So since the T-Mobile Note 4 can be used on ATT anyway, any rom you use will ultimately work with ATT.
So make a choice based on the feedback you are receiving from people here because whatever rom you choose will work on ATT.
2) I don't move threads, but did report the thread as being in the wrong place.
3) A moderator reviewed the report before making the move and would've kept the thread where it was if they didn't agree that your thread didn't belong. So a mod agreed with me and moved your thread.

General info
What is the difference between variants? (N920T, NN920I etc)
There are many different variants released for different carriers and countries. The main difference between them are the radio bands and the pre loaded software that differs from each carrier.
Currently Samsung pay is only supported by US and Korean firmware.
If you are wandering which variant will work with your carrier http://www.willmyphonework.net/ is a good resource to use.
Most of the known variants are listed below.
SM-N9200 (China/Hong Kong)
SM-N9208 (Malasia, Taiwan)
SM-N920A (AT&T)
SM-N920C (Afghanistan, Cambodia, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam)
SM-N920I (International)
SM-N920K (Korea)
SM-N920L (Korea)
SM-N920P (Sprint)
SM-N920R (US Cellular)
SM-N920S (Korea)
SM-N920T (T-Mobile)
SM-N920V (Verizon)
SM-N920W8 (Puerto Rico)
Good idea.

I'll try to get you started:
I flashed WizBangSuperSomething and now I'm stuck in boot loops or I'm getting "FRP Lock" or something else has gone terribly wrong.
I'm a noob and not familiar enough with Norse Gods to know who Odin is.
How can I get my phone restored to stock to use it again?
Edit:
Another useful piece of information (being that I see it asked about 2-5 times each day) might be "what is the difference between the n920x and n920y" (replacing x and y with different variants.)

Added. Thanks for the tip gary.
Here's another good one. You should not drink and post.
I purchased a n920i because I thought it would give me flexibility with root, wifi tethering, and faster updates in the future. Now I'm starting to get concerned since I've learned I can't using Samsung Pay even being in the US. After to talking to some of the guys at AC, updates might actaully be slower on phones NOT from a major market. So I guess my question is, if all the phones radio works with your carrier, which model is preferable for samsung pay, root, wifi tetering, faster updates, etc?? Do any unlocked models work with Samsung Pay?

Unfortunately, Samsung pay isn't available for the n920i. If you've got the Australian version then you'll get it when it's released there. There's a discussion about that in this thread.
To your question though international models usually get the fastest updates, us models for Samsung pay. Rooting and most other mods should be the same.
flash korean version with stock Philippine rom
I bought a Korean version (N920K) and would like to know if i can flash it with stock N9208 rom so that I can remove the carrier splash screen, increase sms character limit of 160, remove korean carrier pre installed software. Will this work?

Those are 2 different models. You can only flash firmware made for your variant.
Noob question regarding modem/radio flashing.
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the SM-N9208 Duos (Taiwan gsm) Note 5. I made a stupid assumption that the dual sim version would be both cdma and gsm capable. Apparently that is not the case. My questions are: does this model have both radios inside, with one being inactive? Is it possible to root the device, and flash the radio to make it cdma compatible. My understanding is the cdma vs. Gsm is a hardware issue, but I was told some manufacturers include both radios in all models. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm on Verizon, btw. When I spoke to their tech support, I was told there is no "approved" way to get the phone working on their network. He made sure to stress the approved part of the response several times, also leading me to believe it is possible.
S Pen broke and the top is stuck inside the phone.
The bottom of my spend broke off and the rest is stuck inside.
Any ideas???
Jen

I bought a note 5 (t-mobile) that was rooted, the problem is that it randomly reboots and most of the time in the middle of a call, will flashing the stock firmware fix the issue?, I was told that it will boot loop so I'm not sure if I should do it.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can just flash a modem from a verizon model. You'll most likely just get a bootloop. There's a similar discussion going on in this thread, maybe you'll get some help from the guys over there.

Flashing the firmware should fix any software issues you're having. That's what I'd do.

I switched providers, and I'm up and running on T-Mobile. LTE was great, until I got to my house. Now I'm losing coverage completely. I know people have said you can't put firmware from different models into this phone; however, is there a way to change the way the the phone identifies itself, making the baseband flash possible? Again, I'm very new at this (clearly), but I am having a hard time believing there is no way to change the frequency that these modems can accept. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hi
i just recived the note 5, i had a note 3 (for 2 years) before, btw after two years I had to change the battery.
i am afraid because the with the note 5 you can't change battery like the note 3.
I wanted to ask, I can use my charger for note 3 (5.3 v 2.0 amps) to improve the battery life of the 5 notes?

You can use that charger but I doubt it'll improve the battery life.
If you want to keep the battery healthy don't let it discharge all the way. Try to charge it more often and keep it above 30% if you can. The less you let it discharge, the more life you'll get out of if.
The note 5 also uses a li poly battery which is supposed to be more resistant to overcharge.
In saying that all lithium batteries will start to degrade after a couple of years, it's unavoidable. How much more life you get out of it remains to be seen.
Not used to samsung came from htc and more recently oppo phones is there a way to download firmware from sammobile etc to phone and update firmware without odin or in my case heimdall
