My headphones needed a bit of force to get them in properly and recognised. I think, maybe they were just not recognised the first couple of time. I'll have another go later, I've only tried once.
If I push to hard, speakers take over. I have to move it for it to play on my earphones. Pretty stuoid . Calling Google today since its my day off.
It has to be just right for it to go through the earphones. Putting it in the jack doesn't cut it because it plays through the speakers. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WAANT TO WATCH PORN.. LOL

ok is working ,i realize that it need to be pushed all the way in lol.
for some reason was not obvious to me, i guess because on my Gnexus don't need to force it that much.
I noticed same thing. So you had to apply more pressure to force it in? I was afraid of breaking the damn thing. I can't get it to recognize any of my headphones but will play out through my lil surround sound system that has a headphone plug. I noticed that the plugs don't seem to go all the way in. I will try to force it in harder..lol.
I need to get some dedicated headphones. Only ones I have are the ones with a built in mic attached. Those won't go in all the way no matter how hard you push. Its likely to break the headphone jack if you keep trying to force them. Ones with mic. attached have 3 rings on the plug. Straight stereo headphones have only 2 rings, which is what I need.
after sometime my captivate speaker wont let me play any music but all the ringtones are ringing and sound is working perfectly on the loud speaker .. but when i play music from a music player there is no sound .. i did flash the stock rom and still the same problem any help ??
front speaker dosent work either ??
If you think all your volume settings are correct, then answer the following questions:
Can you make phone calls normally?
Yes - front speaker is OK
No - front speaker problem
Is your phone ringing normally?
Yes - rear speaker OK
No - rear speaker problem
Do you have a problem with specific app only?
Yes - check app settings (any updates lately?)
No, multiple apps problem - check your volume settings again
Your description sounds like you are having a software problem with the same app on different ROMs.

anymore help ?
Did you try another music player?
If your front speaker is not working during a phone call, then it's broken. This issue though is not related with your app not playing music.

You are not getting more answers because you don't describe your problem well. You've been asked 3 times have you tried another music player... and your answer is? I have a feeling you are confused which speaker is "front" and which is "back". In 2 consecutive replies I got 2 completely opposite answers from you.
Front speaker is the tiny one with a little black mesh and it will never play any music. It's one and only purpose is to hear other party during a normal phone call. Rear speaker is the one under battery door. It's purpose is to play all system sounds (rings, notifications, etc), work as speakerphone during a phone call (only if speakerphone enabled) and play music when no headphones attached (if Media Volume is properly set, of course).

i know your confused
yes i did try other music players .. i have tried other stock roms . front speaker dosent work when i a phone call .. and the rear speaker works when incoming a call but when playing music it dosent work. if i go to settings and change a ringtone then the rear speaker works . and when in a phone call if i turn on the speaker it works .
hope this helps
OK, lets fight one issue at a time:
1. As I understand, your tiny front speaker never works. If it's correct, then it is broken - hardware issue, can't fix it with software updates/changes. Needs to be replaced.
2. Your back speaker plays ringtones and notifications, but not music in any player. Obviously, the speaker itself is OK, but something else prevents music to play on it. Could be two reasons:
a) software issue with the app(s) you are using or with media volume control settings (you said you checked this already)
b) since ringtones and notifications always play through rear speaker and never through headphones, your phone might think headphones are plugged in and this is why it never plays music through back speaker. I've seen similar issue with an iPhone. The cause was dirty headphone jack. Small resistance between ground and L/R contacts makes the phone think headphones are plugged in. This causes the same issue as yours - you hear the phone ringing, but you can't play music. If you hear the music normally through your headphones, than all you need to do is to clear very well the phone jack. If it doesn't help, than more "aggressive" cleaning is needed. If it was my phone I would dissemble it and clean the PCB thoroughly.
3. If nothing helps, than you need a new phone. There is no point to pay for diagnostic/repairs on a 3y old phone.

it was after i tried slimbean
i think your right maybe i will clean it will let you know
the tiny speaker worked but after slimbean it stopped and like spending 2 dyas on a stock rom everything worked great and again after slimbean its gone
SlimBean is not the cause of your problems. Like many other users here, I'm currently running SlimBean with no sound issues.
Tone sound on device is often working

I know this might sound off, and I could be wrong, but if all else fails read up on taking the phone apart and re-seat the ribbon for the rear speaker/vibration component and re-seat the connector for the headphone jack/ front speaker/ proximity sensor component.
Yes, it seems weird that the rear speaker seems to work for some things but not others but I had your exact problem after I dropped my phone. After re-seating the rear speaker ribbon my problem was fixed. I've been using it with no issues now almost a year after I did this.
The only reason I say to re-seat both is that I did push on the phone jack connector too so I suppose that could have fixed it, but I'm fairly certain that the rear speaker ribbon was my issue....What happens is the ribbon works itself out of its seat in an off center fashion so the ribbon ends up almost crooked as can be seen when you look at the printed lines used to ensure it has been inserted all the way.

i didnt try that but i had 3 captivates so i changed the whole motherboard to a new screen and sound works everything is fine. however when the screen of the caprtivate which had problem was inserted with a new mothrebord and now sound doesent work ? no idea why ?
I'm wondering if anyone else is having strange behavior either with Bluetooth audio or headphones. The phone is AT&T stock rooted 1.26.502.10 with unlocked bootloader and CWM. Here's a brief summary of what I am seeing:
When listening to audio books using headphone (Audio Book Player app) when I place the phone in my pocket in a locked state, it will wake up and dial the last number. It seems like there is a pocket sensor that is tripped and initiates a call. This can repeat itself several times. The dialing attempt tends to terminate itself if I don't intervene in time. I have not been able to reliably repeat the behavior in a predictable manner.
For bluetooth audio music (paired with an up-to-latest Ford Sync system) there is inconsistent behavior when using Google Play Music. Sometimes everything is fine. Sometimes on-screen (car side) audio controls will not work. Sometimes it will skip to the next song after possibly 10 seconds on the current song.
This is driving me crazy. If I don't figure it out, I'll throw on a custom ROM this weekend,
Thanks!
I have not had any of those issues so unfortunately I cant be of much help. The one problem I have had is that I have a bluetooth headset that also does media playback, which I always disable when in the car because my car does not do bluetooth and I want the audio to go out the headphone jack. Everytime I disconnect the headset it rechecks the "media" option on the headset and my audio plays from my headset and I have to go back to the bluetooth options and uncheck it. Very annoying.
Looks like it is a hardware issue. I can replicate by turning or wiggling the headphone. Problem appears to be in the headphone jack.

I have experienced the song skip as well. I can't successfully recreate it, but it always occurs when I'm on my motorcycle. At first I thought it was the headphone control being depressed, but I have eliminated that. So I think it does have to do with vibration/movement of the phone somehow.

Try putting pressure from various angles on the headphone plug as well as pressing on the case in the corner where the headphone is inserted. Much weirdness ensues in a very repeatable manner.

Hmmm...nothing happening when I do any of that.
I found that the wind across the microphone is somehow triggering the skip, for me anyways. I use the headphones that came with my One and I simply placed a piece of tape over the microphone. No more song skips.
Very strange as nothing is activating the voice control in the first place.
Ever since upgrading my 3T to Oreo I'm having trouble with my headphones. It keeps changing the headphone icon to the one with mic, and then back again to the one without mic. It keeps doing this for a long time.
It also keeps pausing whatever I'm listening to, be it spotify, Google music or YouTube and changing the volume up and down. I also used to be able to use the"remote" on the headphones but it doesn't respond to anything these days.
Anyone got the same trouble? I have used multiple headphones and it does this with all of them.
Which headphones are you using?
Apple earpods?
So, i have run this issue since the day i have the phone, but lately is gettin annoying, when i listen to music trough earphones (wired ones, i dont have tested bluetooth but i think it will be the same) and open a game and have silent all game sounds and music, or facebook in web browser and autoplay came in videos that the sound of my earphones get low, like 20% to 30% lower than the max of the phone can output.
Like, open music, playing at max volume, open a game with all sounds silent and boom, music volume gets a cut about 20 to 30% and the graphic say it was at max. And when exit the game, volume still have a cut, i need to fully close the app in recent apps open and then the full volume is restored.
how to fix this?! i think isnt a music app setting, cause i use the default Mi Music app and dont see setting to fix this, even isnt a game option cause i run all my games in silent.
are any other setting in system setting to fix this?!
im on latest v10.2.30 and rooted with magisk.

game booster is disabled on my device, and deleted too from the root system folder so, it isnt the problem here.

Try listening to music on any app at Max volume. Does it happen too ? I have a similar problem but it happens all the time. I just have to raise volume past 75% or so and it starts to click. Sometimes i get audio just in the left earpiece and sometimes it just cuts the audio to like .. 5% of its maximum ( even though it's at Max) .. i was thinking it can be an ohm limit with the stock USB c to Jack as via Bluetooth there's no audio problems at all

Your problem is most likely damage done to the wires through which data travels to the earpiece, damage that occurs near the 3.5mm jack or maybe your adapter got twisted too much though I'm pretty sure it's the earphones' cable that's been bent too much, happens with pretty much every earphones no matter how gentle you are. You can check by gently twisting the part of the cable that's close to the jack and see if sound comes and goes in the right channel. It's very hard to fix unless the damage is close to the 3.5mm jack(where it bends the most), then you have to cut the jack and the cable up to the part that's disrupted including it, buy a new jack that's similar to the one you just cut(that has microphone contact and buttons contact for example) and attach the wires properly and glue/tape the damn thing. Not that easy to do either and requires a person with a bit of electrical know-how.

I own a pretty much "new " Mee audio m6pro 2nd gen. and there's no problem at all with them. Just when I'm using them on my also new mi9 . And if i twist the USB c Dongle to check if there's some cutted wires there's no problem, but as soon as i reach high volumes the audio starts to click, fade or simply clicks and just the right or left earpiece keeps sounding with a very clicky sound and distorted. Maybe the bundled Dongle came faulty. Worth to mention that I've used the same earphones at a very much high volume with a creative soundblaster soundcard on my pc and there's no click nor distort.

Not really the problem cause i have done the test with 2 adapters and 3 pairs of headphones/earphones and all new and well conserved nothing twisted or broken and even that way i get the sound cut ONLY when open a game and are listening to music, the problem is fixed ONLY when exit the game and close it on recent apps, the volume are restored when doing that, everytime.
So, i think is a Miui issue, maybe sound priority or something like that, but even...i have silented the sounds on game, this shouldnt occur, but it does.

Well my reply was to Vichergsen because what he described is pretty much what happens when a channel's wire gets disrupted, at least if I understand what he said correctly. I didn't mean to address your issue because yours is definitely a software issue so besides waiting for a fix there's not much I can advise. I also seem to encounter a strange issue when I listen to music, say I set the volume to a level, and if I use certain apps for some reason the sound gets louder than it was before using them, almost louder by +2 I think even though the volume level remains unchanged.(miui 10.2.30)

Guess it's worth to mention. My bug was caused by dsam mod ( stereo for speakers) .. never thought of it cuz i was pretty sure it was only directioning audio to the earpiece and not increasing headphones gain lol... Although after disabling that module i no longer have the " Hi-Fi sound" on sound settings welp, i guess I'll stick with tidal's master quality and flat audio. That should be enough for a Smartphone
