Question Random lag after update on QHD 120Hz - OPPO Find X3 Pro

Hello,
I've updated to coloros12 and i wasn't able to change the wallpaper of the phone, so, I decided to do a factory reset
After 2 factory resets, (one trought the recovery and other from the menu) I've found that phone have some lag during some animations, like swiping to show all apps, navigating trought apps, also on twitter when you scroll on the main feed, specially when i open twitter after many hours it lags as hell (like an old slow phone)
so, when i got the phone a month ago it was very fluid but now i don't know if something got broken or if it's a software issue
All this happens having QHD enabled and 120Hz
Does anyone have the same issue? is this a bug? is there a dffefrent way to do a new factory reset?
thanks for all your repplies

Not sure if my phone has the same issue or similar. After the update to android 12 when the phone is set to Dark Mode and going through the pictures in Gallery the screen lights up and it feels like is flickering, also feels a bit slower. When in light mode everything seems to be working fine. Is no difference in FHD+ or QHD and at 120Hz
I'll open another thread for this.
Edit: The problem seems to be isolated and is only happening when using the Gallery app at 120Hz, the screen flickering starts and the gallery is very slow. I've installed another gallery app and seems to be working fine.

Jerky home scrolling when loaded of tiles

So, can you guys reproduce this?
I've loaded my homescreen with people, meteo, my friends' tiles, photo, music, some bookmarks etc and the scrolling is not smooth anymore, you can clearly notice some stuttering...
also sometimes it looks like it hasn't loaded the livetiles images, so they're just green, then suddenly they get the correct picture on...
i can see this if i unlock then immediately scroll, or when i go back from an app and suddenly scroll...
another issue, if i longpress the music, photo, or htc live tiles (just an example, happens with every live tile...) they flash, the "basic" tile, the one coloured according to your theme, then suddenly go back to normal
...do you confirm this?
Anyone????
I am having the same problems.
Thanks for replying I'm trying to understand if every hd7 behaves like this, or we can consider them faulty devices
anyone else???
Not me. I've loaded up the home screen with about 30 tiles. I do not notice any lag. Flies from top to bottom no issues.
Yeah i notice this all the time. It's really annoying
After letting my device sit on the charger all night the device has some lag and jerky tiles, and I also experience jerkyness other times so its mostly normal.
I only ever notice it if the phone is syncing and some other stuff is going on at the same time too, like downloading email as well... but even then very rare that it happens and its only for a couple seconds.
Might be why you noticed it when plugged in though, wireless syncing could have been going on?
Infact, I havent noticed it since nodo

graphical artifacts on my tab

Hello guys,
I have some strange artifacts on my screen. First time I noticed this was on youtube. it shows some strange picture tearing on the left lower corner of the screen. First I thought it was some glitch in youtube app, but later i discovered similar glitch in some flash video. I noticed that it's most visible in Anomaly HD, where allmost entire lower left corner somehow flickers. no other games or apps seem to have this kind of problem, 720p HW accelerated video plays like a charm
Is this problem caused by apps, or is it faulty tegra 2? Can I try another display driver? Anyone else encountered this kind of glitch?
I uploaded video captured on my Galaxy W - it's most visible on Anomaly HD
Try a custom from. If it does not work, you might have a messed up GPU
I am currently using overcome 2.3.1, but i had this issue on stock as well...what's bugging me is the fact that no other app or game I've tried seems to be affected
for example shadowgun, zen pinbal thd, modern combat 3...all those games are working with no problem...might as well wait for official ICS update and see if it helps.
ok another funny thing: after installing latest AOKP ROM this happens when booting (same thing happens in CWM recovery after installing CWM suggested in thread)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQp39SvzNtg&feature=g-upl
here is the original video, seems i somehow messed up inserting the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyKITveorwY&feature=g-upl
EDIT:
i'm starting to thing there's something really wrong with my tab...this iswhat i have after applying motley kernel (no screen shifting on previous kernel)
Could my problem be somehow kernel related?
video:

EDIT2:
seems like i'm not the only one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513949
I have this problem too. I see it in the lower left corner of the screen when scrolling through the video wall in the youtube app. If I turn the tab upside-down in landscape mode the flashing/tearing happens in the lower right corner of the screen. However, the problem does not seem to happen in the portrait mode at all.
I'm on stock unrooted rom.
Can you try flashing cm rom with latest recovery? I'm unable to flash latest build with my current recovery. If I flash recovery recomended in the cm tgread my screen starts to scroll from the bottom to the top. If I try to flash the rom with this new recovery same thing happens when booting...same goes with motley kernel as documented in videos above. Anyone else is having this problem? I can live with some screen tearing but that scrolling pisses me off...it makes newer cwm recovery unusable for me.

It's just as esqauw said...when i turn tablet upside down bug appears on different spot ( right lower corner screenwise, left upper corner tabletwise ). I believe tis has to He somehow related to software, because it appears elsewhere on the screen...might be completely wrong off course. Any oppinions?

someone has to know what to do about that sliding screen issue

I was about to link you my thread on this but I see you found it already. I have not looked into this for a few months.
For me the problem is inconsistent so it is difficult to test. Id think if it were a hardware issue then most if not all apps would be affected. Maybe the way the affected apps are writing to the screen is triggering it. Id also think more people would be reporting the problem.
Different roms don't seem to help which could point to hardware or some low level (lower than rom?) software cause. I watched your videos of the boot screens post kernal changes and I have not had that type of problem yet. But I have not rooted or tried other roms either. This may support the low level software cause.
Your information adds support to a software cause with the artifacts appearing in different parts of the screen when rotated. I think a hardware cause would mean a consistent location on the screen.
I cant find the threads now but Ive seen mention that Samsung's implementation of the screen and Tegra 2 on the 8.9 causes a performance lag in landscape that does not appear in portrait. The 10.1 does not have this problem. Maybe this is related to that. The lack of the artifacts in portrait mode would lend support to this.
I hope you find a fix but Ive resolved myself to living with it. Although, I should probably look at warranty options before it expires.
Good luck
What do the graphics look like on this free graphics benchmark app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aurorasoftworks.quadrant.ui.standard&hl=en
I get 2281 in quadrant. lt runs smooth with no problems or glitching. but it runs in portrait mode which does not appear to have the bug.
Given that bug does not happen in portrait mode I'm leaning toward the problem being the performance lag issue I mentioned above.

Ok, so I have to clarified couple of things about lag and stuff.
1. I was played GTA 3 v1.3 with all the in-game setups at max and with frame limiter disabled. It has lagged as hell! Then, I switched the game to "Zoom to fill screen" and the game runs very very very smooth but the screen resolution became low. This is applied also to Asphalt 6 and other HD games.
2. The tablet runs smoothly in Portrait Mode. The stock launcher from 3.2 runs perfectly in portrait for me.
3. I tried to overclock up to 1.5 GHz and tried again to play GTA 3 with the option "Stretch to fill screen" and it LAGS! Tried with "Zoom to fill screen", no lag at all but screen resolution problem. Otherwise, is playable
I think all it's related to software. Hardware is quiet good. Maybe if we change the DPI the lag will dissapear, don't know
Jellybean seems to fix it
Well I tried the AOSP 10 beta 8 build and CM10 latest build and they both appear to have fixed the problem. AOSP seems a bit better performance wise so ill be sticking with that for the foreseeable future. I guess it was software after all.
I have the exact same issue with newly bought tab 8.9 on youtube app. and I didn't use alot of other apps but the apps I tried never had issues with the screen. The tab is all stock.
so, what we have concluded here is that it is a software issue or some hardware issue that should be taken care of by the warranty?!
Well it seems that it's software issue, because after flashing CM10 preview, those artifacts dissappeared.
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda app-developers app
That's great news. But that leads to another question
Do all gtabs 8.9 have the same issue using HC 3.2? So that we can say that we have a software issue only? Or is the issue related to some faulty SoCs that may show these artifacts using stock software?
I just want to make sure that it is a software issue only as I think I can make use of the warranty at the moment if it is a hardware issue
Thanks for sharing the tip

Please help: My N9600 dual sim is screen lagging

Hello dear members,
Here is my dilemma:
Bought the Chinese N9600 variant dual sim Note 9 and I am experiencing some serious lag/stutter on the screen
when I close any apps, i.e. Messaging, Contacts, Whatsapp, Phone Dialer etc..., only when I set the screen resolution
to WQHD 1440. At FHD 1080 everything seems to be snappy. When I changed the battery mode to Performance I saw a little
improvement, but the stutter is still there. I hear from different owners of Note 9 that they are not experiencing
the lag, and I myself tested different Note 9s from friends and everything seems very fluid at WQHD right out of the box
without changing any settings. The funny thing is it got worse after PIE Update.
Done Factory Reset about 6 times, tried installing the apps one by one to see if a particular app was introducing the
lag, cleaned the system partition cache but nothing helped. Right now my phone has very minimal apps installed
and no Widgets. Went to a Samsung Service Center in Canada everything checks out, both hardware and software.
Is anyone else experiencing some serious lags at WQHD? Any thoughts? Solutions? At this point throwing my phone
out the window has crossed my mind.
PS forgot to mention I am using it in Canada on Fido Network and I got the PIE update a few days ago OTA.

Weird glitch when phone is in dark mode (colour shifting when taping display)

Hi everyone,
Got my Pixel 4 XL on the 23rd and been playing around with it since then. I am now settling into a rhythm and noticed a very concerning glitch with the display when the phone is in dark mode. Basically, when the phone is in dark mode I noticed that typing in Gboard or tapping anywhere on screen in apps that are not pure black (such as Messages, Phone, etc.) will shift the screen colour from blueish-black to greenish-black. This happens every time, even after rebooting the device. There is no visible colour shifting in apps that use pure-black such as Settings (however, parts of Settings like the search bar that are the "gray" dark colour also shift). Once I noticed this happening now I cannot stop noticing it everywhere. I am looking to find out from you whether you are seeing the same thing or whether this may be a device problem. Note that the same issue shows up in dark apps even if dark mode is not enabled. It also has nothing to do with Ambient EQ, Automatic Brightness, or anything else of similar nature. Occasionally the problem stops, but if I pull up Gboard and start typing (say to search in the Recent section of the phone app) the problem immediately comes back.
I am looking for serious feedback here from those willing to look closely. This does seem like a software glitch to me, rather than hardware, especially since I am not seeing this behaviour with any other colours and so far it definitely has something to do with physical interaction with the screen when tapping on it. As I said, it also seems to be universally triggered by Gboard when in apps running in dark mode.
I appreciate any feedback you can provide.
Edit: Looks like what I'm observing is related to the switching colour profiles when the display is going back and forth between 60Hz and 90Hz. Turning off the smooth display function or forcing the display into permanent 90Hz mode appears to stop the problem from happening. Google really messed this one up. I hope their 90Hz fix they promised clears up this issue. Very annoyed ?
Thanks,
Dejan
Btw, since you are using forced 90hz display make sure to have always on display on. If you don't your greys will be purple and lower brightness as well as lots of black smear/crush. I don't know how turning on always on display solved that issue (someone posted this fix in another thread). So it indeed doesn't seem to be hardware but software related and hopefully they will tune this over time.

Yeah, I saw that thread. Some funky stuff going on with display calibration and 90Hz. Since I know that the HW is not defective and the SW is the source of the issue I am less bothered now (I cannot stand exchanging HW). I haven't specifically observed that effect on my phone and while I did try forcing 90Hz, I actually went back to the stock setting since I noticed that forced 90Hz further sucked down the battery that already is not particularly stellar despite this being the XL version. I presume Google will refine the 90Hz calibration and function over the next few months. I will say though that I am a bit confused why they need to have different calibration at different refresh rates. I calibrate all of my desktop monitors and despite the fact that I have a 100Hz monitor I never have to change calibration with refresh rate. Maybe an OLED thing

I just noticed this on my pixel 4 xl tonight. But It only happens when the proximity sensor is triggered. Ex: like after making a phone call except it made everything on the screen seem over saturated on the screen and well as the same color shift you had stated. It seems to go away once I lock the device and unlock it again. It did it with smooth display on and off as well as force 90hz on and off.
There are a couple threads discussing this. Here's one of them:

Question Picture in Picture, Split Screen etc - Refresh Rate drops to 60Hz (EXYNOS)

Hi there, I'd not noticed this before the Android 12 update, but refresh rate appears to drop from 120Hz to 60Hz when using Picture in Picture or Split Screen views. Can anyone else reproduce this please?
You can confirm this by going into developer mode and toggling to always display the refresh rate.
Try a factory reset if you haven't already and it was a OTA upgrade...
I'd rather see if others can reproduce this first - would have thought it's a simple enough thing to test and post your results here, thanks!
Hi SSJ100, I just tested this to confirm for you, it does drop to 60hz immediately and I cannot prompt it to 120hz until I return to full screen view
Further testing, if i have video running in the background, Amazon, netflix or YouTube it stays at 120 with windowed mode on

Thanks for checking! Again though, I'm quite amazed (okay, maybe not quite the word hehe) at how no one has reported this issue in this forum (and at least one other "major" forum). If they have, please excuse my ignorance and I'd appreciate a link to the thread.
I can also confirm that this issue persists even after updating to the so-called bug fixing patch "BUKG".

Interesting how bugs like this manifest sometimes huh hehe. I first noticed this issue with Google Maps when I was navigating with it and switching to another app (which automatically forces Google Maps app to become picture in picture mode). Scrolling looks quite different and jittery - it's amazing how one gets used to 120Hz!
Have you tried the tiles app developed by a user on here? It can force refresh rates very easily and just requires an adb permission.....there was a thread the other day

There is some black magic going on with these 120Hz panels. 60 Hz never seemed to be a problem before these high refresh rate displays started popping up. I remember smooth as butter 60Hz phones (both iphones and android). But now when i use a 120Hz panel at a 60Hz refresh rate, it feels like something inside the phone is in it's death throes, coughing and spluttering - the stutter is jarring! But if I use my wife's OnePlus 6 (which has a fixed 60Hz screen), it doesn't feel so bad. It's definitely not as smooth as 120Hz but the 60Hz on a 60Hz panel feels smoother than 60Hz on a 120Hz panel. Is it only me or has anyone else had a similar experience?
I have the same issue as well..so pissed..using latest BUKG
I'm on Android 11, One UI 3 still, and when my phone displays split screen apps the refresh rate drops from 120 down to 60.
This must be some battery saving feature, because If I toggle performance mode (processing speed) from the drop down quick menu, the fps shoots back up to 120 in split screen.
So an easy fix if you need 120 in split screen.

Yes, that seems to "fix" it for split screen. However, it doesn't resolve picture in picture fps drop to 60Hz.
Hmm must be an Android 12 thing. I'm sat here typing this with YouTube playing pip and the screen is holding 120fps even with my finger removed from the screen.
I did try Android 12 when the public version was released, but didn't like it, so downgraded back to the last version of 11, with a clean wipe.
Ok something odd going off, my screen seems to be stuck at 120!
Forcing it back to 60 in display options, works. Putting it back to adaptive, keeps the screen at 120. Even on the lock screen, and AOD!
I might try a reboot.

If you're in low ambient light, screen at low brightness, panel will be locked at 120Hz even with adaptive selected. Move to bright area or increase screen brightness and check if you are able to get to 60Hz

Yes, I've only noticed this issue since Android 12 with the picture-in-picture scenario. Hopefully Samsung fixes this soon.

Nothing odd there - as previous poster mentioned, it's always behaved that way when the ambient lighting is low enough. And yes, has always been that way for AOD too. I never understood why 120Hz is required particularly for that!
I think that after android 12, my unlock animation is rendered at 60hz because it is sometimes sluggish. Did a full factory reset and i have the last update. Do you guys experience the same? other than that the phone is perfectly smooth
Still the same issue with BULC December update. Somewhat disappointing, as you'd think this should be quite an easy fix.
Still same issue after BULG update with PIP. As a previous person has noted, split-screen mode appears to be auto-throttled to 60Hz by default, and the only way to change this so it remains at 120Hz is by toggling "High" or "Maximum" "Processing speed".
