Hey guys, this might be a very simple question, but I want to make sure I do nothing wrong.
The glass of the back cover broke on my device and now I want to change it.
If found a supplier who has the spare part: https://rounded.com/asus-zenfone-8-zs590ks-battery-cover-obsidian-black-90ai0061-r7a010.html
Does somebody now if adhesive is normally already applied on a spare part? So that the only thing I have to do is to remove the old cover and maybe some adhesive leftovers and then just put the new cover on the phone and everything is fine?

I think I saw somewhere that there is a separately sold adhesive, but I cannot confirm that. Also, I would look on eBay, they are way cheaper that rounded.com
Hard to tell from the image whether adhesive is on or not. Here is one source for adhesive: https://www.asus-accessories.com/zenfone-8-back-cover-mounting-system-87186-75861.htm
Might be cheaper to get somewhere else, but it is a start. Also out of stock currently...
Thank you guys for your answers! I didn't know that the adhesive is also sold seperatly.
My best guess is just to contact some from the shops in hope to get an answer regarding if adhesive is already applied on the back cover or not. If I get some information, I'll post it here.

Have you figured this out? It looks like back cover has an adhesive (at least on the photo). I need to buy one too but still in doubt to buy additional adhesive.
Thanks for reminding me!
Actually I've got an answer from some retailer and they told me, that adhesive is not on the backcover and need to be bought additionally. Gladly I found local repair shop that does the repair for a cheap price (with the original spare part), so that I don't have to take care of.
A late update to this story. A friend of mine had also a cracked back cover and ordered a spare part himself. Actually there is adhesive already on the back cover applied (against the statement of the one retailer).

Can you link where your friend bought the back cover?
From here: https://rounded.com/asus-zenfone-8-zs590ks-battery-cover-obsidian-black-90ai0061-r7a010.html
Sadly not available right now and back then it was just about 50€.

It's just a thin square of plastic, stuck down with some kind of non drying sticky resin

yes thats what ı need. the plastic insert that is broken
from where ı can find it? since one month I searching for it
This might sound crazy but...Take apart the device. Bust out the broken glass and just put all back together. Get a protective carrying case. Won't be an eyesore anymore and you can quit looking for that little piece.
and Leoni, are you selling the part or just showing off? HA.
Okay I found something that looks like it contains what you need.
I'm thinking you buy it. Remove what you want and sell the rest as is gently used.

Or what about a dummy phone? They might use the same glass! And you'll have a toy!

beggers cant be choosers
Honestly I think the dummy phone purchase may be your way to go.
You would only be spending about $25-30 USD to have a possible fix.
If this part WERE available, I imagine it costing at least $10-20 USD.
Beggars can be choosers, but you just have less to choose from!
still could not find any seperate insert plastic ):
in fact I have same problem , the first crack appeared after two weeks maybe , then another one after next two weeks , look pretty shattered by now , but surprisingly pics still do come out al right
doesn't really affect the phone , just ruins it visually , and the funny thing is that HTC in the warranty agreement specified already that any external damage to the screen , camera , lens etc. is not covered by the warranty
I wonder if my phone brakes down for a different reason and I send it back , would they void it since I had the camera glass broken , claiming I was handling is roughly

you probably wont find something that small of a part being sold separately, so your best bet is buying the whole case listed before and using the part out of it, or swapping all your stuff over to it. Not expensive but probably all you can hope for unless someone is selling parts off.
broken camera glass
i also broke mine sent it back to htc and for £71.00 inc collection and delivery they replaced it it comes back wiped so back up first
71 pounds for a simple piece of plate-glass that can even be removed and reinstalled without opening the housing? That sounds fairly pricey to me...
And seeing that a lot of people are experiencing the same problem (including myself) wouldn't it be nice if HTC would recognise the design flaw and send out $0.05 pieces of glass to everyone needing one? But knowing HTC that is not gonna happen
I for one am thinking about grinding a thin piece of plexiglass into the right shape and using that. A replacement piece of glass is just going to break again anyway...
Hi all

Akshay00smart, I'm not sure about the glass part but you can buy a replacement back piece that I think includes the camera glass.
http://stellatech.com/site_stellatech/articles.php?cid=1095
The item number is GH98-16686A,R price is €10.87
I would send the company an email and ask to make sure.

I do have an issue with the scratched camera glass. However, changing the cover won't solve it since the cover doesn't include the glass.
OK,
Here are two possible parts from one website.

The problem is that the site doesn't sell to individuals, they do wholesale only.
Hope some can point to the right place.

i think a service cetre would replace the glass relatively cheaply and it is something you could ask for a price on over the phone, and they would probably fix while you wait or at most within 1 or 2 days

i know this reply will not benefit the op but just want to keep this on record for someone else who might stuble here from google,
today i removed my old 5230's frame and tried to replace it with i9000's (it was of the same size) but when i tore the piece down, i came to know that the "frame" was attachedc to the body, like this
(the silver covering cane be removed) m talking about the "scratched part".. so no way to remove i shattered it to pieces and kept my old frame on the camera and tried to assemble the device, it dint assemble properly, and thus has a slight opening at the top right side(above the power button)... other things are working fine, the camera is no longer blurry (although i still need to test it in sunlight, will do it tommmo and report back) .. so in short , dont do it unless necessary, replace it with another back body, it'l save your hassle ...

Move slowly in every step
alright first, power off tablet
locate the two screws, one in each docking port ( be careful of the screws they are very tiny ) ONLY TWO SCREWS TOTAL
use the screwdriver to push towards the glass from inside the docking port. ( be careful, push slowly the glass is only held down with plastic clip )
Use prying tool to lift up the glass, focus on the area thats loose.
apply a thin layer of glue ( i used Krazy glue ) to the glass edge
push glass back in place and screw the screws back
I should have taken pictures

Sorry, no, I had to send the third one back to because a loud crack is to be heard when softly whincing the tablet. I'm not going to repair faulty devices on my own as long as there is warranty.
Now I wait for the next charge of TF701 (newer than 11.2013) to see if Asus has addressed this problem.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have no idea how to seperate the lcd from the digitizer. My problem is much worse than a lose bezel. The tablet fell and well..shattered. Digitizer is gone but LCD is ok. So I found on ebay a digitizer on it's own but before buying it, I want to first know how to seperate the LCD so I can reuse it.
Attached is the disassembled LCD + Digitizer.
I got to this part but can't figure out how to take out the LCD. I don't know if you can see, but there are like plastic clips all around the LCD. How do I take it out? I am not even sure if it is taped or not at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert
There are a couple of good videos on YouTube about screen replacement on the TF300 and 700 - which are basically the same. One is by FixPhone Land, the other by AJ parts UK. The latter is the better one IMO.

I got to the part where I have the glass/digitizer/lcd bit in my hand but I will not go through the effort of seperating the glass from the digitizer. A new digitizer and glass will cost €105 with shipping, and I do not think it is worth repairing. I will assemble it and sell it as broken for parts.
Thanks anyway.
Since my frame is bent and my back glass is broken I really have to replace them as the dust got between back glass and the camera rendering camera with flash useless.
I'm thinking about replacing it myself, but I'm worried if it's still going to be waterproof after I replace it.
Have any of you guys replaced the back glass by yourself? How's the waterproofness after you did that?
Water resistence will be gone for sure and back glass wont stick for long.time to time you have to push it back.
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm talking about replacing it. Both bent frame and back glass. Have you done this?
No, they will keep the water-proof capablility of the phone. First they will replace the back, remove all the old glue and rubber gasket then replace all with new glue, etc...then use high compression machine press the back cover tight to the glue. Atleast that is the process of replace back cover in my local Sony center, not sure it's applied to all....And after repair they will allow you to put the phone into water to test...

My adhesive on the back just completely stopped holding the back glass. I can take it out by shaking the device a bit or even by picking it up. I'll be sending it for the repairs...
No more Z1 development, really.

Yeah. The worst thing is that I have to ship the phone on my own. I mean wrapping, talking with DHL and stuff like that to get it to authorised sony service ... -_-
Good thing is that although I'll pay a lot for the replacement of the frame and the back it will be waterproof again.
I'll send it in this weekend or at the begging of the next week.
If anyone would be interested in the state of my Z1 then here's what's wrong with it:
USB flap fell off again.
Back glass is broken
Main frame is bent
Middle frame is cracked
To fix it I'd have to buy:
Glue for middle frame, main frame
Back glass
USB flap
Middle frame
I'll propably fix it myself becaus the cost of doing this in the service would be propably as high as a new Z1. Too bad I'm not rich so I can't buy those parts yet.
If anyone is interested then I finally made pictures of my phone. At least the screen and the electronic hardware is allright.

I only had Xperia Play apart from Z1, flashed xperia S just few days ago, lol ^^
I didn't test it myself, but if you buy a genuine back glass assembly (that includes glue, you can buy this from, for example www.witrigs.com) and replace it properly, wait a week or so for the glue to align and stick properly it should still be waterproof. I did replace almost every part of my Z1, that is camera, back microphone, back glass - 2 times, minijack with proximity sensor, battery, main frame with all the buttons and flaps, speaker mesh and propably something else I don't really remember anymore. It doesn't matter anyway, what matters here is that if you replace middle frame - take close attention to the speaker mesh hole - the one from a phone has some sort of a gasket there, whereas the replacement one - doesn't and you can't really buy it separately. I bought the middle frame assembly from witrigs and it was also missing that gasket. Also, speaker mesh from witrigs is different from the one that was in the phone. These parts render my phone not waterproof anymore and I don't think you can buy replacements for it that would still make the phone waterproof, even if replaced with surgically perfect precision.
TL;DR
Back glass assembly (complete genuine replacement part with glue, nfc, camera etc. already on it) replacement, if done properly, may not cause your phone to lose it's waterproofness. At least from my experience.
Replacing main frame and speaker mesh, even new genuine will void it. Not because there were some mistakes in replacing them, they simply don't have all of the elements that the parts originally shipped with a new phone have. Replacing them will definitely remove its waterproofness. (with all parts from witrigs.com, that is very trusted to ship genuine, new replacement parts.
Just posting this so people googling around could find the answer.

So I had an incident with my beloved Z3c (D5803) and now I find myself in need to repair it. I don't really want to share the details of such incident and to be honest they are not that important. What's important is that I decided to replace the whole LCD/digitizer assembly.
What would you recommend in terms of better achievable waterproofing, just the LCD/digitizer with the adhesive tape or the whole midframe with the display attached already? The one with the midframe attached already costs about 33% more, but I'm willing to pay the premium if that means that the phone will still be waterproof after the repair.
The same question goes for the back cover, should I just buy new adhesive and re-use the current one (which is in almost mint condition) or just buy a new cover with the tape pre-attached?
And lastly, I'm planning on buying this stuff on eBay, and I'd like to know what you think about these listings. I must note that I have a 20% site wide discount coupon, so if you recommend another site because it's cheaper keep that in mind.

Just yesterday I replaced my back panel with one found on witrigs, OEM I believe. Because it was already cracked it came off really easy and I didn't need to preheat the adhesive. There was very little residue which I removed and after that plopped the new one on. The new glass back panel came with adhesive already on it, I would advice that. The whole process was very easy and took about 10 minutes. Look around for repair/disassembly tutorials and good luck!

Thank you for your advice, I've already seen a couple of disassembly guides and I think I've got a good idea on how to fix this myself (or in the worst case scenario I could go to one of the hundreds of repair shops in the downtown, here in Mexico City, and pay the guy a couple of bucks to install the parts I'm going to buy).
What I'm most worried about is the waterproofing; have you tested your phone in this regard? I still don't know which part to buy, the whole assembly or just the LCD/digitizer.
As for the back cover... I might as well buy both the adhesive and the back cover, it would be like 7-8 bucks for both.

Yeah, I bought the full assembly, as well as 2 sets of adhesives and a back cover. I thought that I might be able to re-stick my current display (the only issue it has is a couple of dead lines in the bottom left edge; like 10 by 5 lines) and have it as a back up or maybe even sell it as scrap.
BTW, you can test if your phone is air tight in the service menu, if it is air tight it most likely is water tight as well. Dial #*#*SERVICE*#* #, then tests and then peressure sensor, squeeze the phone and you should see the pressure rise.
Mine, when brand new, rose a bit and then it slowly decreased... Now with the nature of the damage of the display I think that it wasn't entirely waterproof to begin with. Who knows? Maybe after the repair it will end up 'more' waterproof than before.
I just used that service menu, it shows me about 1020 millibar and goes slightly up when I firmly press the phone, so.... this means my repair was a success as far as air-tightness goes?
If it stays up for as long as you press it I reckon it still is waterproof (but then again, don't go swim with it based on this, even Sony doesn't recommend doing this anymore). If it goes down maybe it has a leak, but as I've said before, mine had such a leak since I bought it, so go figure.
